And I saw that when I told how Cookie, my dog, had saved my life, his eyes were filled with tears (泪水) and he nodded.
When the talk was over, I walked towards him. He excitedly shook my hand. “I had a dog like your Cookie. The dog saved my life.”
“Oh, what a good dog!”

I live in a small village in the countryside, and every season here brings a different kind of beauty.
Spring starts in March, and the village wakes up from winter. The fields turn green as farmers plant rice seedlings. My grandma often takes me to pick wild flowers by the river—they are pink, purple, and white, making the banks look like a colorful carpet (地毯). In the evenings, we sit under the old tree in our yard, listening to the birds sing. It’s quiet and warm, and everyone feels energetic.
Summer comes in June, and the village becomes lively. The sun shines brightly, and the rice fields grow tall. Every morning, my grandpa goes to the river to fish. Sometimes I go with him, and we often catch small fish for dinner. Afternoon rains are common here—they cool down the hot air, and the leaves look fresh and clean. At night, we sit outside to watch fireflies; their tiny lights dance in the dark, and it feels like magic.
Autumn arrives in September, and the village is full of harvest joy. The rice turns golden, and farmers work hard to cut it. My family helps collect apples from our orchard—they are sweet and juicy. The sky is blue, and the wind carries the smell of ripe corn. Every weekend, the village holds a small market where people sell fresh fruits and vegetables.
Winter comes in December, and the village is covered in white when it snows. We build snowmen in the yard and have snowball fights with neighbors. On cold days, my grandma makes hot porridge for the family. We sit by the fire, talk, and read books. Even though it’s cold, the village feels warm with love.
I love my village in every season—it teaches me to appreciate nature and simple happiness.

根据“in the morning”可知描述早晨的日常动作,应用get up,表示“起床”。stay up“熬夜”、set up“建立”、put up“张贴,举起”均不符合语境。
引用海明威的话,“Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the tree”,这种意象带有悲观色彩,应用sad,表示“悲伤的”。
根据“The red and brown colours that the leaves change to...”
into“进入”、down“向下”、over“越过”均不符合语境。
根据“The coming of the season is just like a person becoming mature (成熟的)”可知将秋天的到来比作人的成熟,并提到人们学到了关于生活的道理,这属于秋天的一个主题,应用theme,表示“主题”。
another“另一个”(接单数);others“其他人/物”(代词,不接名词);the other“两者中的另一个”。
固定搭配both...and...表示“两者都”,连接children和young people,应用both。between“在……

On a winter morning, I was giving a talk on a square on Fifth Street. The wind was strong. There was an old man sitting in a chair in front of me. It seemed that he had lost his legs.
He nodded. “I lived in Greenwich Village and I had a dog that I raised and hunted with. When I took part in the Korean War (朝鲜战争), I was hurt and lost the use of my legs. When I came back from the hospital, he was waiting. He spent the rest of his life by my side. I would be crazy without him. I could sit for hours and talk to him... ”
His voice became lower, and his eyes were filled with tears again. “I still miss him very much.”
I looked at him and then at the sky. My mind came back to the year of the Korean War.
It was winter and the sunshine outside became warmer. I, a lonely 13-year-old child, was sitting next to a dog. The dog wore a card with a name—Ike, around his neck.
“Your dog,” I said. “Was he named Ike?”
With eyes open wide, he nodded. “Yes. But how...? Did you know him?”
That was why Cookie did not come back to me one day. He had another job, taking care of his sick owner.
“Yes,” I said, turning to him. “Your dog saved my life. I met him when you were in the war. He was my best friend and I gave him a new name—Cookie.”
42. Why were the eyes of the old man filled with tears?
A. It was cold outside and his legs hurt a lot.
B. The writer’s talk made him think of his dog Ike.
C. He felt sad about what happened to the writer.
D. He really loved the story of the writer’s dog.
43. The old man felt ________ when he found that the writer knew his dog Ike.
A. Afraid B. unhappy C. excellent D. surprised

B. he went back to take care of his sick owner
C. he died in the Korean War when hunting outside
D. he went to look after a lonely 13-year-old boy in the winter
45. We can infer from the article that ________.
A. the dog left the writer in the village B. the writer was the dog’s first owner
C. Ike and Cookie were two similar dogs D. the two men talked about the same dog
B 43. D 44. B 45. D

根据第一段中“when I told how Cookie, my dog, had saved my life, his eyes were filled with tears”以及后文老人讲述自己的狗 Ike 曾救过他并陪伴余生,可知作者的演讲触动了老人,让他想起了自己的狗 Ike,因此流泪。
原文中老人听到作者问“Was he named Ike?”
原文明确说明“That was why Cookie did not come back to me one day. He had another job, taking care of his sick owner.”,直接点明狗狗没有回到作者身边的原因是回去照顾它生病的原主人,对应选项B。

C项“Whales may travel through huge areas of the ocean.”中“Whales”与“Birds”同为迁徙动物,“travel through huge areas”与前文“fly from one part of the world to another”形成类比,共同引出后文“changes in any of the places”的影响,符合语境。
B项“But weather will change very fast over the next 25 to 50 years.”中“But”与前文“thousands of years”形成对比,“change very fast”与后文“impossible...in decades”构成因果关系,符合语境。

F项“In parts of Malaysia, turtles are only giving birth to female babies.”中“only giving birth to female babies”是对前文“far more female”的极端化例证,“In parts of Malaysia”提供了具体地点,与后文“Also”并列补充另一种影响,符合语境。
A项“There is not all bad news, though. (不过,也不全是坏消息)”中“not all bad news”与前三段描述的负面情况形成转折,“though”与后文的“Now some projects are already working”构成“问题→解决”的逻辑链条,符合语境。
