My brother is a good footballer, but sports never really been my thing. I ve watched a concert on T. V. And after that, I was hooked. So what did you do when you left school? I thought about studying math or physics, but then I heard about a youth ban that was doing a world tour. They offered me a scholarship so I could afford to go, which was brilliant. When I got back, as I already knew what I wanted to do, IT seemed a pointless to delay going to music college. So that's where I went. I'm very lucky to be able to do what I love, and I have achieved what I set out to do as a Young child. Not many people get the chance to do that. On the last afternoon, we always have team games. Every group wants to be first, so they really try hard, and it's a lot of fun. It is an extremely confusing time for anyone with a creative career. For months, I have been troubled by my unsold manuscripts, my family’s repeated advice to choose a “practical” major, and the fear that writing may never provide a steady living. It feels like jobs like writing have become more like a fantasy than a realistic career. But what truly unsettles me at the very core is the rapid rise of AI, leaving me constantly struggling to figure out what unique value my works can contribute to society.
It is a concern I cannot easily share with my loved ones, because they would encourage me no matter how difficult the reality is. Admittedly, I’m glad that they do, and I’m glad that people think I am talented in writing, but it also makes me wonder if they really believe it. Though I have no financial pressure, I long to live independently and earn a stable income. I am unwilling to spend my life doing work I do not care about, and I still hope for a more meaningful future.
I am passionate about writing music criticism and essays, but I keep asking myself: is art essential to society? After reading Sigrid Nunez’s novel The Friend, I began to reflect on the true meaning of being a writer. The book explores whether creating art is selfish and compares art’s value with practical careers like farmers or doctors, who offer concrete help to others. We certainly all consume art, and I think everyone has some work of art that has personal value to them, but it is hard to defend art’s value when compared with the direct help offered by farmers or nurses, to name but a few. These are careers that provide direct and definite aid to real people, whereas the potential benefits of art are sort of invisible.
Indeed, art is what has defined humans across our existence. My writing, wherever it ends up taking me, has value in its creation. All the millions of short films unwatched, songs unlistened to, and stories unread have value because someone took the time to make them. That has to be worth something. So I keep writing.
24. What worries the author most according to paragraph 1?
A. The pressure to choose a major.
B. The failure to sell written works.
C. The difficulty of earning a living.
D. The value of his art in the AI age.
25. Why doesn’t the author share his concern with his loved ones?
A. Their support may sound unreliable.
B. Their views may differ from his career plan.
C. Their encouragement may add to his pressure.
D. Their words may remind him of financial risks.
26. What does paragraph 3 mainly suggest?
A. Practical jobs matter more than art.
B. Art’s social value can be hard to recognize.
C. Personal passion can prove art’s worth.
D. Creative work should serve practical needs.
27. Which of the following best describes the author?
A. Reflective. B. Responsible.
C. Self-disciplined. D. Hard-working.
C
High-quality medical care relies on easy access to reliable health data, which our electronic device can readily supply. Digital healthcare may well become the next major breakthrough in the way we manage our personal well-being.
At first glance, digital healthcare may seem to refer to maintaining the normal function of your electronic equipment. On the contrary, it is a concept referring to a network of interconnected tools capable of tracking and transmitting key health-related data.
To fully grasp the promising value of digital healthcare, just reflect on how electronic technology has transformed our daily routines. Take travel as an example. Prior to the popularity of smart phones, web-based translation tools, positioning systems and the Internet, journeys to unknown destinations were extremely inconvenient. People had to rely on paper maps, hire local guides, or frequently turn to strangers for directions. Today, all necessary information can be conveniently stored in your pocket device.
The greatest strength of digital healthcare lies in its ability to track critical physical indicators continuously and precisely. Such data can be shared online instantly, enabling medical professionals to obtain abundant records of your daily physical state. Doctors can adjust your medical plans timely based on these real-time statistics!
This does not mean patients can completely give up face-to-face medical visits. Still, the real-time health tracking benefits both patients and doctors, making online medical communication practical and effective. Cutting down unnecessary in-person hospital visits also helps improve the overall efficiency of medical services.
However, the progress of digital healthcare also raises serious worries over personal privacy, as medical information is highly secret. For example, private patient records may be exploited for commercial promotion. Once health files are uploaded online, preventing illegal access to private data can be challenging. Still, with proper regulation, the advantages of digital healthcare will far exceed its potential risks.
28. Why does the author talk about traveling in Paragraph 3?
A. To stress the necessity of digital healthcare.
B. To prove the bright future of digital healthcare.
C. To show the disadvantages of traditional traveling tools.
D. To help readers to realize the power of digital technology.
29. What risk does digital healthcare bring to people?
A. Personal health information may be illegally used.
B. Higher cost of buying medical monitoring devices.
C. Electronic tools may affect people’s physical health.
D. Strict laws will limit patients’ access to medical data.
30. The underlined word “exploited” in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to ________.
A. collected freely B. stored safely C. misused improperly D. examined carefully
31. What is the passage mainly about?
A. Ways to protect patients’ online privacy.
B. A new technology trend in medical services.
C. The weaknesses of traditional medical care.
D. Urgent health problems people are facing now.
D
Hybrid vehicles, also known as hybrid electric cars (HECs), are automobiles powered by two or more energy sources. Compared with most ordinary cars on the present-day roads, they have several unique features. The biggest distinction is that HECs rely on both petrol and electricity for operation. A hybrid car is fitted with both a battery-driven motor and a petrol-fueled engine.
Manufacturing a hybrid vehicle costs slightly more than a standard car, even with a smaller engine. The higher price results from the more complex engine structure. It has special mechanical parts that support its dual-power operation mode of petrol and electricity. Besides, it is equipped with a computer system different from that of traditional cars. Although it costs more to buy, it runs more cheaply than petrol-only vehicles. When a hybrid car stops at traffic lights or travels at a speed under 15 miles per hour, its special computer makes it run only on electric power. Once the computer detects the car needs extra power, it will restart the petrol engine. The computer keeps judging in real time whether the car should use electricity, petrol, or a mix of both.
Since electric power assists its operation, a hybrid car consumes far less fuel than most vehicles. In fact, it is among the most fuel-efficient cars available now. On average, it can travel 50 to 60 miles per gallon of petrol. Such high fuel efficiency cuts drivers’ costs and helps save limited oil resources. Hybrid cars are also environmentally friendly in other ways. For instance, they produce no harmful polluting gases when running on electricity.
Despite these differences from regular cars, hybrid vehicles deliver the same driving experience. They share the same control methods for acceleration and braking. However, HECs are generally smaller in size than petrol cars. Their streamlined, aerodynamic (空气动力学的) body improves fuel efficiency, yet it fails to increase the inner space of the car.
32. Which of the following best describes the features of a hybrid car?
A. Safe and reliable. B. Costly but long-lasting.
C. High purchase price, low pollution. D. Small engine with stronger power.
33. What controls the switch between petrol and electric power in a hybrid car?
A. The engine. B. The battery. C. The driver. D. The computer.
34. What is the main purpose of inventing hybrid cars?
A. To save energy resources. B. To upgrade driving services.
C. To cut down purchase costs. D. To create a new driving experience.
35. What is the most likely source of this passage?
A. A travel diary. B. A science magazine.
C. health report. D. A car sales poster.

Every afternoon, thirteen-year-old Ethan stopped outside Green’s Music House, drawn to an old violin in the window. Though his family couldn’t afford lessons, Ethan loved music. After performing a solo at his school concert, he dreamed of playing on a bigger stage.
One rainy day, he stepped inside. The owner, Mr. Green, noticed him looking at the violin. He pointed to a photograph of a teenage girl holding the same violin on stage. Beside it hung a poster for “Community Music Night 1998.” At the top of the performers’ list was Anna Wilson.
Mr. Green explained that Community Music Night was the town’s most important music event. Anna had been his student - a talented violinist accepted into a famous conservatory (音乐学院) and chosen to perform the closing piece. But weeks before the concert, her father fell seriously ill. Anna gave up her place to support her family. She practiced for nearly a year but never got to play.
Before leaving town, she gave Mr. Green her violin and a sealed envelope. “Give this violin to a young person who truly loves music,” she said. “Don’t open the envelope unless you find that person.”
Over the next two months, Ethan helped in the store every day. Impressed by his dedication and musical ability, Mr. Green finally handed him the violin.
That evening, Ethan opened the case and found the envelope. Inside were a letter and a sheet of music. At the top of the music sheet was a handwritten note: “The piece I never had the chance to play.”

W: I’d like to welcome Barry Green, the successful concert violinist, to our studio today.
M: Hello. It’s good to be here.
W: Barry, why did you decide to be a violinist?
M: It was something I’d been desperate to do since I was about six years old. My parents weren’t musicians, but they let my brother and I do whatever we liked as hobbies, as long as it didn’t get in the way of our education. My brother’s a good footballer, but sport’s never really been my thing. I watched a concert on TV, and after that I was hooked.
W: So what did you do when you left school?
M: I thought about studying maths or physics, but then I heard about a youth band that was doing a world tour. They offered me a scholarship so I could afford to go, which was brilliant. When I got back, as I already knew what I wanted to do, it seemed pointless to delay going to music college, so that’s where I went. I’m very lucky to be able to do what I love, and to have achieved what I set out to do as a young child. Not many people get the chance to do that.
17. Who is the speaker?
A. A short-term worker. B. A college graduate. C. A fitness coach.
18. What do young people mainly do in the center?
A. Try water-based sports. B. Play indoor games. C. Enjoy mountain activities.
19. What is the main benefit for the participants?
A. Gaining a novel experience. B. Strengthening physical health. C. Improving interpersonal skills.
20. Why does Jess most likely give this talk?
A. To look for new members. B. To share her work experience. C. To promote the activity center.
A 18. A 19. C 20. B
W: Hi. My name’s Jess. I work at an activity center for young people, as an activity leader. The center is in North Cornwall in the south-west of England. The center is open all year round, but I only work here during the summer, and summer is the busiest time, so they need extra activity leaders then. Activity centers are a great idea for young people. Most of the people who come to the center live in towns and cities, so it’s a chance to enjoy some fresh air. Our center is near the sea, so we spend most time on water activities like surfing and sailing. We also do rock climbing and mountain biking on the mountain slopes. I think that the most important thing about the activity centers is the social side. Young people today spend so much time on computers or watching TV that they don’t talk to each other much. In most of our activities they have to work in teams, so it’s a good opportunity for them to learn about working and communicating with other people, and to make new friends, too. In the evenings, we get together to sing songs and play indoor games. On the last afternoon, we always have team games. Every group wants to be first, so they really try hard, and it’s a lot of fun. I’ve been an activity leader for three years now, but this will be my last time. I’m finishing university next year and getting a full-time job. It’s sad to think that this is my last year here, but I’ve really enjoyed it.

The following sites show how nature, history and recreation come together in different forms.(国家公园不只是地图上的风景胜地:它们保护自然地貌、留存历史记忆,并为游客提供户外探索的机会。
B
D 25. A 26. B 27. A
根据第一段“But what truly unsettles me at the very core is the rapid rise of AI, leaving me constantly struggling to figure out what unique value my works can contribute to society.(但真正从内心深处让我不安的是人工智能的快速发展,这让我不断苦苦思索自己的作品能为社会带来怎样独特的价值。)”
根据第二段“It is a concern I cannot easily share with my loved ones, because they would encourage me no matter how difficult the reality is. Admittedly, I’m glad that they do, and I’m glad that people think I am talented in writing, but it also makes me wonder if they really believe it.(我很难向亲人倾诉这份忧虑,因为无论现实多么艰难,他们都会鼓励我。诚然,我很高兴有他们的支持,也开心大家认可我的写作天赋,但这也让我怀疑他们是否发自内心认可我的能力。)”可知,亲人一味给予鼓励,但作者内心怀疑这份认可是否真实可靠,所以不愿和亲人诉说烦恼。
【26题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第三段“We certainly all consume art, and I think everyone has some work of art that has personal value to them, but it is hard to defend art’s value when compared with the direct help offered by farmers or nurses, to name but a few. These are careers that provide direct and definite aid to real people, whereas the potential benefits of art are sort of invisible.(我们的确都会接触艺术,而且我认为每个人都拥有对自己具备特殊意义的艺术作品,但若是和农民、护士这类能给予他人直接帮助的职业对比,就很难佐证艺术的价值。这些职业能为真实的人提供直观、确切的帮扶,而艺术所能带来的潜在益处却是无形的。)”可知,本段表达了艺术带来的好处看不见摸不着,它的社会价值很难被认可。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“I am passionate about writing music criticism and essays, but I keep asking myself: is art essential to society? After reading Sigrid Nunez’s novel The Friend, I began to reflect on the true meaning of being a writer.(我热衷于撰写乐评与随笔,却不断追问自己:艺术对社会是必不可少的吗?读完Sigrid Nunez的小说《朋友》后,我开始反思身为一名创作者的真正意义。)”以及第四段“My writing, wherever it ends up taking me, has value in its creation. All the millions of short films unwatched, songs unlistened to, and stories unread have value because someone took the time to make them.(无论我的写作最终将我引向何方,创作本身就具备价值。无数无人观看的短片、无人聆听的歌曲、无人品读的故事都拥有意义,因为有人愿意耗费心血去完成它们。)”可知,作者不断自我发问、深度剖析艺术与创作的意义,是善于反思的人。
D 29. A 30. C 31. B
根据第三段“To fully grasp the promising value of digital healthcare, just reflect on how electronic technology has transformed our daily routines. Take travel as an example. Prior to the popularity of smart phones, web-based translation tools, positioning systems and the Internet, journeys to unknown destinations were extremely inconvenient. People had to rely on paper maps, hire local guides, or frequently turn to strangers for directions. Today, all necessary information can be conveniently stored in your pocket device.( 要充分理解数字医疗所蕴含的巨大价值,只需想想电子技术如何改变了我们的日常生活。以旅行为例,在智能手机普及之前,网络翻译工具、定位系统和互联网尚未兴起时,前往陌生目的地极为不便。人们只能依靠纸质地图、聘请当地向导,或频繁向陌生人寻求路线指引。如今,所有必要的信息都可以方便地存储在你的口袋设备中。)”可推知,作者在第三段中提到旅行是为了帮助读者认识到数字技术的力量。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“However, the progress of digital healthcare also raises serious worries over personal privacy, as medical information is highly secret.( 不过,数字医疗的发展也引发了人们对个人隐私的严重担忧,因为医疗信息高度机密。)”以及“Once health files are uploaded online, preventing illegal access to private data can be challenging.( 一旦健康资料上传至网络,防止非法访问私人数据将变得十分困难。)”
根据最后一段中“However, the progress of digital healthcare also raises serious worries over personal privacy, as medical information is highly secret.( 不过,数字医疗的发展也引发了人们对个人隐私的严重担忧,因为医疗信息高度机密。)”以及划线单词句中“For example, private patient records may be…for commercial promotion.( 例如,患者的私人病历可能被……。)”

An important part of raising your children is teaching them good manners as it helps them be more successful in life. ____36____ Here are some “old-fashioned” but important manners for your modern kids.
Saying “thank you” to service workers
Saying “thank you” is the base of all good manners but these days many children overlook thanking the people that help them in many little ways each day, like wait staff, store clerks, and bus drivers. It’s not just about politeness but about teaching children to recognize and acknowledge others’ contributions as valuable. ____37____
Taking turns talking
Teach your children to tap your arm and then wait patiently for you to acknowledge them before speaking. If they do interrupt, calmly tell them it’s rude to interrupt and let them know you’ll acknowledge them shortly. ____38____ Offer your children the same politeness and don’t interrupt them when it’s their turn to talk.
Using their indoor voices
____39____ A parent should teach their children early on how to moderate their volume and tone based on the situation. You can make it into a fun game for little ones, like seeing who can whisper the quietest at a cinema.
Covering a cough or sneeze
These days, it’s more important than ever to teach children to cough or sneeze into a tissue or their elbow. It’s not just a matter of hygiene (卫生) — no one enjoys getting sprayed. ____40____ Don’t forget to teach them to say “excuse me” after.
A. Remember it goes both ways.
B. Consequently it makes others feel cared about.
C. Games are very important for children’s good manners.
D. Crying, laughing, or just talking, children can be very loud.

F. It is also a way to help others feel safe and comfortable around you.
G. Eventually it’s about teaching them not to treat others as their servants.
E 37. G 38. A 39. D 40. F
根据前文“An important part of raising your children is teaching them good manners as it helps them be more successful in life.(养育孩子很重要的一环是教会他们良好的礼仪,因为这有助于他们在人生中取得更大的成功)”和空后“Here are some “old-fashioned” but important manners for your modern kids.(以下是为现代孩子准备的一些“老派”但重要的礼仪)”可知,空格处承接上文礼仪有益的观点,进一步说明缺乏礼仪会带来负面影响,起到承上启下的作用;选项E“Lacking basic manners will affect kids in all areas of their lives.(缺少基本礼仪会在生活方方面面影响孩子)”符合原文逻辑。
根据前文“It’s not just about politeness but about teaching children to recognize and acknowledge others’ contributions as valuable.(这不仅仅关乎礼貌,更是教会孩子认可并重视他人的付出)”可知,本句点明向服务人员道谢的深层教育意义,空格处应延续这一深层内涵;选项G“Eventually it’s about teaching them not to treat others as their servants.(归根结底,这是教会他们不要把别人当作佣人使唤)”承接上文,拓展该礼仪的教育核心,逻辑通顺。
根据前文“If they do interrupt, calmly tell them it’s rude to interrupt and let them know you’ll acknowledge them shortly.(如果他们打断别人说话,平静地告诉他们打断他人是不礼貌的,并告诉他们你很快就会回应他们)”和空后“Offer your children the same politeness and don’t interrupt them when it’s their turn to talk.(给予孩子同等的礼貌,轮到他们说话时不要打断他们)”可知,前文讲要求孩子不打断他人,后文讲家长也要做到不打断孩子,说明礼仪是双向的;选项A“Remember it goes both ways.(记住这是双向的)” 完美衔接前后两句。
根据空后“A parent should teach their children early on how to moderate their volume and tone based on the situation.(家长应当尽早教会孩子根据场合控制音量与语调)”及本段小标题“Using their indoor voices (学会在室内控制音量)”可知,本段主题是室内控制音量,空后说明家长应该教会孩子控制音量,空格处需引出孩子吵闹的现象;选项D“Crying, laughing, or just talking, children can be very loud.(无论是哭闹、大笑还是单纯说话,孩子们都可能十分吵闹)” 引出后文控制音量的礼仪要求。
根据前文“It’s not just a matter of hygiene (卫生) — no one enjoys getting sprayed.(这不仅仅是卫生问题 —— 没人喜欢被飞沫喷到)”可知,前文讲述遮挡咳嗽喷嚏的第一层好处,空格应补充另一层益处;选项F“It is also a way to help others feel safe and comfortable around you.(这也是一种让身边人感到安全舒适的方式)”使用also承接前文,补充该礼仪的另一重意义。

Slowly, Ethan unfolded the letter and began to read Anna’s words. Anna wrote that she had cherished the violin more than anything in her life, yet family responsibility forced her to abandon her lifelong musical dream. She stated that she never regretted supporting her sick father, but the unplayed piece had lingered in her mind as an unfulfilled wish for decades. She expressed her sincere hope that whoever received the violin would seize every opportunity to perform fearlessly and never let external difficulties extinguish their passion for music. As Ethan finished reading, his eyes were filled with tears, and a bold idea instantly took shape in his mind.
The next morning, Ethan rushed back to the music store. He handed the letter and music sheet to Mr. Green, asking anxiously whether he could sign up for the upcoming Community Music Night to play Anna’s unfinished composition. Mr. Green stared at the sheet of music in shock, then nodded with warm tears rolling down his cheeks. In the following weeks, Ethan practiced day and night with full devotion. When the night of the performance arrived, he stood on the stage holding the old violin. Every note he played carried Anna’s long-lost longing and his own sincere love for music. The whole audience held their breath, immersed in the touching melody, and thunderous applause burst out the moment the final tone faded away.
