第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Four Dream Holidays
★See a Penguin
This is a once-in-a-lifetime holiday in the snow and ice of the Antarctica. You can see animals and birds you only see on TV or in zoos. The trip starts in South Africa and finishes in Western Australia. You travel on a Russian ship, Kapitan Khlebnikov, and the holiday lasts for just under a month.
★Go on Safari
This holiday is a trip to see wild animals with a difference. You travel by helicopter (直升飞机) over parts of Kenya, listening to music as you fly, and then you sleep under the African stars in a comfortable bed. There’s another trip in a hot-air balloon, which gives you a second chance to see wild animals. The best moment is the Elephant Watch in Samburu, where your experienced guide can tell you all about these amazing animals.
★Live like Robinson Crusoe
If you dream of life on a quiet island, then this is the holiday for you. The island of Quilalea is off the coast of Mozambique and you can only see turtles (海龟) and a few tourists there. You may live like Robinson Crusoe: watch the turtles, go fishing, or travel in a boat to another island to have a picnic.
★Fly High
This is probably the most expensive holiday in the world. You can go on a flight into space and travel around the Earth in a spaceship — if you have the money! The only problem with this holiday is the six-day training course before you take the trip. You travel above the Earth for between 30 and 90 minutes and you get a beautiful view of our green and blue planet.
1. What can you see in Go on Safari holiday?
A. Outer space. B. Wild animals. C. Sea turtles. D. Russian ships.
2. If you prefer a holiday on a quiet island, which would be the best choice?
A. See a Penguin. B. Go on Safari.
C. Live like Robinson Crusoe. D. Fly High.
3. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To explain dreams. B. To share geography knowledge.
C. To introduce different animals. D. To attract tourists.

Sri Nihal Tammana, age 13, of Edison, New Jersey, was named a winner of the 2022 Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes. The Barron Prize annually honors 25 outstanding young leaders who have made a significant positive impact on people, their communities, and the environment.
Nihal founded Recycle My Battery to promote and facilitate the recycling of used batteries. His nonprofit places free battery recycling bins(箱子)and educates young people and adults about battery recycling. In just three years he has built a team of more than 250 student volunteers across the globe who have recycled nearly 200,000 batteries and educated millions of people. Nihal learned at age 10 that 15 billion batteries are thrown away each year and that most end up in landfills(垃圾填埋地)where they pollute groundwater, harm the ecosystem, and can cause catastrophic fires. Inspired to tackle the problem, he began collecting used batteries from his community. He put them in free recycling bins at stores like Staples until he was told he was bringing too many and had to stop.
Undeterred, he reached out for help from Call2Recycle, the largest battery recycling nonprofit in North America. Call2Recycle agreed to assist and provided recycling bins for free, which were placed in schools, libraries, and other public places. Nihal’s organization now operates across the U.S. and is expanding to other countries including Canada, Switzerland, and India. “Earth gives us so much — oxygen, food, water — everything! So it’s important that we give something back when we can,” says Nihal.
The Barron Prize was founded in 2001 by author T. A. Barron. “Nothing is more inspiring than stories about heroic people who have truly made a difference to the world,” says T. A. Barron. “And we need our heroes today more than ever. Not celebrities, but heroes — people whose character can inspire us all. That is the purpose of the Barron Prize: to shine the spotlight on these amazing young people so that their stories will inspire others.”
4. What does Recycle My Battery intend to do?
A. Protect the earth from used batteries. B. Promote used batteries across the globe.
C. Make money by collecting used batteries. D. Stop people throwing used batteries away.
5. What does the underlined word “Undeterred” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Undiscouraged. B. Unprepared. C. Unsurprised. D. Uninterested.
6. How did Call2Recycle help Nihal’s organization?
A. By making it go global. B. By offering free recycling bins.
C. By providing financial support. D. By buying more used batteries.
7. What is the text mainly about?
A. The importance of recycling batteries.
B. The impact of batteries on the environment.
C. The achievements of the Barron Prize winners.
D. The inspiring story of a young environmentalist.

An upcoming wearable device (设备) for the blind could help them move around public and outdoor spaces on their own, acting as “glasses” that guide them. The glasses are actually a headset, similar to the ones you might wear for VR (Virtual Reality) experiences. Unlike those headsets, this one doesn’t show any pictures. Instead, it delivers soft shakes on your forehead, along with sound from built-in speakers, to guide you through public areas.
The device is noticeable in design. It has a sizeable sensor fixed on the forehead, a camera set in the front, and a large battery group at the back. It supports up to two hours of use on a single charge, and the whole package weighs 1 kg. The AI-powered system works out sensor readings (传感器读数) over 100 times a second. It helps the device understand where you’re walking and what’s in front of you, so you can avoid things that block the way.
You can use your voice to ask for guidance to specific places. You can set locations like “home” or “work” in advance, and the device will understand simple instructions like “take me to my office”, then lead you all the way to the right building.
The device may take the place of a guide dog, which is perhaps the best possible choice for blind people to find their way around. But that means a long wait and requires the blind to take on the big responsibility of caring for the dog over several years.
So far, the company has invited more than 400 blind users in over 40 countries to test the glasses in real environments. If the device can deliver on its promise, it will provide a new level of personal freedom to people around the world living with blindness.
8. What does the device depend on to guide the blind through public areas?
A. A VR headphone. B. Shakes and sound.
C. A separate speaker. D. Pictures and videos.
9. What can we learn about the device from paragraph 2?
A. Its design is quite ordinary.
B. It can sense walking speed.
C. It can check road conditions.
D. Its battery can last very long.
10. Why does the author mention a guide dog?
A. To promote the use of a guide dog.
B. To stress the weakness of the device.
C. To show a possible future of the device.
D. To tell the difficulty in raising a guide dog.
11. What does the underlined word “promise” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Test service. B. Real situations.
C. Technology support. D. Expected functions.
D
Wildlife tourism can be a powerful supporter in protecting nature, but it can also harm it. The question of whether wildlife travel is, on balance, good for wildlife is a difficult one, and there’s no simple answer. The World Travel & Tourism Council reported in 2019 that wildlife tourism contributes $120.1 billion to the global GDP, yet tourism makes up about 8% of global greenhouse gases, a major driver of climate change and biodiversity (生物多样性) loss.
Visiting popular wildlife destinations such as the Great Barrier Reef or Galapagos Islands often includes air travel, which disturbs (打扰) animals and can lead to habitat loss. Studies have shown that tourists can disturb nesting seabirds and feeding sea lions, and that dolphins and whales may change their behavior to avoid areas frequented by boats. Over-development of resources, introduction of non-native species, and pollution are other issues caused by tourism.
Despite these disadvantages, many believe that properly organized tourism can play an important role in conservation (保护). The World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) stated that international tourism can aid in fighting against poverty, cultural understanding, and biodiversity conservation. Data show that over 47,000 species are threatened with extinction, stressing the need for biodiversity conservation efforts.
Tourism can be an important contributor to protected-area management costs, especially in areas lacking funding sources. For example, in Galapagos Islands, marine-based tourism brings nearly $178million every year. However, depending on tourism for conservation funding raises concerns. While accommodation providers and tour operators are increasingly applying environmentally friendly practices, it’s important to reflect on the impacts of our travel choices. We must consider the frequency of flights taken and the conservation, and community benefits of each trip. The first step to travel responsibly is being aware of these impacts and trying to maximize benefits while minimizing harm to wildlife and habitats.
In conclusion, wildlife tourism can promote economic development and provide funding for nature protection but it requires careful planning to ensure the results. It’s an issue that demands thoughtful consideration of our travel habits and their broader influence on the environment.
12. What is one concern regarding wildlife tourism according to the text?
A. Economic loss. B. Cultural difference.
C. Habitat disturbance. D. Crowded destinations.
13. What does the WWF statement show about travelling abroad?
A. It’s a threat to biodiversity. B. It’s a source of climate change.
C. It’s a possible conservation tool. D. It’s the main conservation funder.
14. What does the author think of the dependence on tourism?
A. It’s a risky method. B. It’s an excellent idea.
C. It’s overrated. D. It’s certainly fail-safe.
15. What might the author agree with?
A. Managed tourism helps conservation. B. Wildlife won’t be harmed by tourism.
C. Biodiversity conservation lacks funding. D. Environmentally friendly tourism is impossible.

Joey was an 83-year-old retired theater cleaner with early Alzheimer’s disease (老年痴呆症). He lived alone in a quiet neighborhood and stuck to a strict daily routine: walking to the old North Park Theater every morning, no matter how bad the weather was. His son visited him every two days and kept warning him not to go out by himself when heavy snow was forecast.
One freezing winter morning, a heavy snowstorm swept across the town overnight. Strong winds blew fiercely and thick snow covered the ground, blocking roads and burying small paths. The theater manager had called Joey the night before, telling him to stay indoors. Yet the old man’s memory let him down. Deeply influenced by his long-time habit, he quietly slipped out before dawn. He only wore a thin coat and light shoes, with no hat or gloves to fight the cold.
He moved with difficulty in the snow and soon lost his way. After wandering about for almost two hours, his legs turned weak and icy. He could hardly move forward, so he stood still beside a big snow pile outside neighbor Mrs. Aughtry’s house, shaking violently. Snow lay all over his hair and shoulders, and his fingers were frozen hard. He spoke in soft, unclear voices and stared blankly into the wind, too tired to call for help. Few people would walk on this quiet street in such terrible conditions.
At about half past six, Mrs. Aughtry stayed warm upstairs and happened to glance through the balcony (阳台) window. She noticed a thin figure standing without any movement in deep snow. Great anxiety washed over her, so she called her husband immediately. The couple decided to step out into the freezing storm and find out what was wrong.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Dear classmates,
Now smartphones and the Internet are everywhere in our daily life. I think they are useful tools, but we must use them properly.
Last term, I often lost myself in short videos that took much of my study time. Then I made a rule that I can only use my phone for 30 minutes after finishing homework every day.
To keep a good balance, we can set a fixed time for phone use and turn off game reminders. We can also do more outdoor activities with friends. These small ways help us a lot.

Paragraph2:
After warming Joey up with hot drinks and thick blankets, Mrs. Aughtry finally got in touch with his son. The son said he had been searching all nearby streets anxiously for nearly an hour, and he was so thankful that he could hardly find proper words. He also promised that he would arrange someone to keep Joey company later, so such a dangerous thing would never happen again.
