He jumped into her arms and refused to let her go. “I was attached immediately and decided that I would take a risk and try hiding the kitten in my college dorm where pets are obviously not allowed,” Erin recalled. A week later she was caught and given 48 hours to remove the cat. After several phone calls, Erin managed to convince her parents to let her keep him. Six years ago, Erin had Abby, her beautiful daughter. She didn’t know what Bailey would think about the new addition when she brought her home from the hospital. “But it was love at first sight.” Erin said. Bailey stayed by Abby’s side, guarding and showering her with love and purrs. As Abby grew, he became her protective brother, watching over her every step of the way. Abby picked up a book one day and tried to read it with Bailey by her side. He became her perfect audience, and the sweet boy was completely attracted by Abby as she told him stories of wonder. A video showing Abby reading to Bailey went viral online in 2018. Numerous people followed Erin on social media platforms. Unfortunately, on December 8, 2018, just months after becoming famous, the 14-year-old cat passed away from kidney failure. A full month after Bailey’s passing, Erin still got cards and gifts from caring individuals. It is this love that Erin hopes Bailey’s fans hold on to. She hopes people will be inspired to treat the world with love. 4. Why was it a “risk” for Erin to keep the cat in her dorm? A. She knew nothing about keeping cats. B. Her parents did not like animals at all. C. A kitten could sometimes be dangerous. D. Animals are forbidden in college dorms. 5. What do we know about the cat from paragraph 2? A. He was made to guard the newborn baby. B. He kept her company in Abby’s childhood. C. He shared many interesting stories with Abby. D. He could understand what Abby read entirely. 6. How did so many people get to know the cat? A. In a story book. B. From a reading show. C. On the Internet. D. Through a filmmaker. 7. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. No Ordinary Cat B. A Wonderful World C. Battle of Win-Win D. Love from Animals 【答案】4. D 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段““I was attached immediately and decided that I would take a risk and try hiding the kitten in my college dorm where pets are obviously not allowed,” Erin recalled.( Erin回忆说:“我立刻就喜欢上了它,决定冒险把小猫藏在我的大学宿舍里,那里显然是不允许养宠物的。”)” 根据第二段“As Abby grew, he became her protective brother, watching over her every step of the way.(随着Abby的成长,他成为了保护她的哥哥,守护着她的每一步)”可知,猫陪伴着Abby的童年。 根据倒数第二段“A video showing Abby reading to Bailey went viral online in 2018. Numerous people followed Erin on social media platforms.(2018年,一段Abby给Bailey读书的视频在网上疯传。许多人在社交媒体平台上关注Erin)”可知,人们在网上认识了这只猫。故选C。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据最后一段“A full month after Bailey’s passing, Erin still got cards and gifts from caring individuals. It is this love that Erin hopes Bailey’s fans hold on to. She wants her furry “first-born” to be remembered as a symbol of compassion that inspires others to treat the world with love.( Bailey去世整整一个月后,Erin仍然收到一些关心她的人寄来的卡片和礼物。 A。 C Sometimes a book comes along that isn’t just “interesting” or “well done”— it’s a book where it seems like the author looked into your brain and wrote a book specifically for you. A book like that for me was released this week. It’s called 100 Things We’ve Lost to the Internet, written by editor Pamela Paul. Paul lists 100 things we used to do that the Internet has either changed or taken over completely: writing letters, print newspapers, the joys of being bored, and not having all the knowledge in the world in your pocket. As I’m a longtime accumulator of random knowledge, certain entries on the list—Being the Only One, Figuring Out Who That Actor is—hit me where live; remembering detailed facts is no longer nearly as impressive when everyone has the capability to find the answer in seconds. On and on the list goes, with every minor shift adding to the pile. What this book does so well is illustrate the growth of that pile; while any individual item might be no big deal, the collected set is significant. It’s a list of ways in which the world now is different from the world then. Obviously, Paul isn’t saying that everything back then was better. Time marches on, after all. and it’s tough to argue against the many benefits that the Internet has brought into our lives. But that isn’t really the point. It’s not about whether it used to be better. It’s that it used to be different. 100 Things We’ve Lost to the Internet is a fun read for those of us who share some of Paul’s memories and experiences. We remember what it was like and we like to remember. The landscape has shifted, and no doubt it will shift again as technology’s advancement continues apace. This book serves as a reminder of the simple truth that when gains are made, sometimes something is lost. 8. What is the purpose of the text? A. To review and recommend a good read. B. To comment on the effect of the Internet. C. To argue for the viewpoint of a new book. D. To urge the readers to value what they have. 9. Which might be entries on Paul’s list? A. Maps and Eye Contact. B. E-pay and Compact Disks. C. Postcards and Homeschooling D. Bad Photos and Washing Machines. 10. What does the underlined phrase “hit me where l live” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Prove what I’m good at. B. Introduce how I grew up. C. Describe the place I live in. D. Speak out what is on my mind. 11. What conclusion has the author drawn after reading Paul’s book? A. Things in the past are better. B. There’re no gains without pains. C. The internet is a double-edged sword. D. Technology is constantly changing the world. A 9. A 10. D 11. 100 Things We’ve Lost to the Internet 的书。 根据题目找主旨定位到文章第一段中“A book like that for me was released this week. It’s called 100 Things We’ve Lost to the Internet, written by editor Pamela Paul(这周出版了一本类似的书。这是编辑帕梅拉·保罗所著的《我们被网络遗忘的100件事》)”可知本书由Pamela Paul 所写,名叫 100 Things We’ve Lost to the Internet 故选A。 根据文章第二段“Paul lists 100 things we used to do that the Internet has either changed or taken over completely: writing letters, print newspapers, the joys of being bored, and hot having all the knowledge in the world in your pocket.(保罗列出了100件我们曾经做过的事情,这些事情不是被互联网改变了就是被互联网完全接管了:写信、印刷报纸、享受无聊的乐趣,以及把世界上所有的知识都装进你的口袋)”可知,地图和眼神交流被互联网改变了,会出现在他的清单上。故选A。 根据文章第三段“remembering detailed facts is no longer nearly as impressive when everyone has the capability to find the answer in seconds.(当每个人都能在几秒钟内找到答案时,记住详细的事实就不再那么令人印象深刻了)”可知作为一个长时间收集各种随机知识的人,清单上的一些内容打动了我,说出了我心中所想。 根 据 最 后 一 段 “The landscape has shifted, and no doubt it will shift again as technology's advancement continues apace.(情况已经发生了变化,毫无疑问,随着技术的快速发展,这种变化还会再次发生。)可知,作者得出的结论是科技不断地改变着世界。故选D。 D Chocolate, a beloved treat worldwide, is often criticized for its high sugar content and environmental impact. However, Swiss researchers have pioneered a new method to produce healthier and more eco-friendly chocolate by making the best of the entire cocoa fruit instead of wasting most of it. Traditionally, only cocoa seeds are used, leaving the fruit’s pulp (果肉) and outer shell as waste. The new approach extracts (提取) natural sweetness from the cocoa fruit itself, not requiring added sugar. Scientists found that the fruit's juice contains 14% sugar, which is concentrated into juice and mixed with pulp to form a gel (凝胶). This gel replaces sugar in chocolate production while boosting fiber content. The traditional system of cocoa production in Africa and South America is not environmentally friendly, as reported by BBC. The industry is also suffering from the high price of cocoa beans and the poverty of the cocoa farmers. Using the entire fruit could help deal with these two issues. Developing the perfect recipe required wide-ranging testing. Trained experts evaluated various mixtures, balancing pulp quantities to avoid too thick or not sweet enough results. Beyond health benefits like regulating blood sugar and reducing fat intake, the method ensures a way that doesn’t use up or harm the earth’s resources. Cocoa farming in Africa and South America faces issues like destroying forests and farmer poverty. By processing the whole fruit locally, farmers gain extra income and job opportunities. Major chocolate companies are adopting parts of this approach, though none have fully removed sugar. Roger Wehrli encouraged producers to accept the method, stating it could find new and better ways to improve the industry. By 2025, the European Union will no longer allow cocoa that harms forests, which may reshape global supply chains. Roger Wehrli also noted, “Using the whole fruit benefits both farmers and the planet — it’s economically and ecologically promising.” 12. What is the advantage of the new chocolate-making method? A. It increases sugar content. B. It lowers production costs. C. It helps chocolate taste better. D. It improves health benefits. 13. What is special about the new method in paragraph 2? A. Adding melon extract for sweetness. B. Processing cocoa fruits to form a gel. C. Using the natural juice from cocoa seeds. D. Reducing the amount of cocoa beans used. 14. What is a key benefit of processing the entire cocoa fruit locally? A. It raises the global price of cocoa beans. B. It increases job opportunities for local workers. C. It provides additional income and employment for farmers. D. It increases the chance of forest destruction in cocoa-growing areas. 15. What does the last paragraph aim to show? A. The different attitudes of companies. B. The problems with the chocolate industry. C. The challenges of adopting new methods. D. The advantages brought by the new approach. 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. C 15. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了瑞士研发的新巧克力制作方法,既提升健康效益,又促进环保与农民增收,具有多重积极影响。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“However, Swiss researchers have pioneered a new method to produce healthier and more eco-friendly chocolate by making the best of the entire cocoa fruit instead of wasting most of it.(然而,瑞士研究人员开创了一种新方法来生产更健康、更环保的巧克力,其关键在于充分利用整个可可果实,而非浪费其中的大部分)”及第二段中“This gel replaces sugar in chocolate production while boosting fiber content.(这种凝胶在巧克力生产中替代了糖分,同时增加了纤维含量)”和第三段中“Beyond health benefits like regulating blood sugar and reducing fat intake, the method ensures a way that doesn’t use up or harm the earth’s resources.(除了调节血糖和减少脂肪摄入等健康益处外,这种方法还确保了一种不会耗尽或破坏地球资源的方式)”可知,新巧克力制作方法的优点是它能改善健康益处。故选D。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“The new approach extracts (提取) natural sweetness from the cocoa fruit itself, not requiring added sugar. Scientists found that the fruit’s juice contains 14% sugar, which is concentrated into juice and mixed with pulp to form a gel (凝胶). This gel replaces sugar in chocolate production while boosting fiber content.(新方法从可可果实本身提取天然甜味,不需要添加糖。科学家们发现,这种水果的果汁含有14%的糖分,这些糖分被浓缩成果汁,并与果肉混合形成凝胶。这种凝胶在巧克力生产中取代了糖,同时增加了纤维含量)”可知,第二段中新方法的特别之处是将可可果实加工成凝胶。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“By processing the whole fruit locally, farmers gain extra income and job opportunities. (通过在当地加工整个水果,农民获得了额外的收入和就业机会)”可知,在当地加工整个可可果实的一个关键好处是它为农民提供了额外的收入和就业机会。故选C。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Major chocolate companies are adopting parts of this approach, though none have fully removed sugar. Roger Wehrli encouraged producers to accept the method, stating it could find new and better ways to improve the industry. By 2025, the European Union will no longer allow cocoa that harms forests, which may reshape global supply chains. Roger Wehrli also noted, “Using the whole fruit benefits both farmers and the planet — it’s economically and ecologically promising.”(尽管尚未有大型巧克力公司完全摒弃糖分,但它们正逐步采用这种方法的部分环节。 Digital citizenship Everyone’s talking about “digital citizenship”, but what is it? ____16____ Being a “citizen” means that you belong to a group of people. On one shift, I sensed something just before going off duty at 11 am. I put down the tray(托盘) on the table and suddenly it fell off the table. At first I thought I had accidentally knocked it over, but then I felt the whole building shaking and heard patients were screaming. I realized that an earthquake was happening. I quickly caught hold of a nearby patient, who was terribly frightened and pushed her under a bed. And then, I got under another bed myself. As soon as the earthquake stopped, I decided to try and get the patient safely outside. I carried her out and helped her down to the grassland, where several other people had gathered. Afraid that my other workmates were in danger, I went back inside the building again. When I met Lucy ,our ward sister(护士长),I found her patient couldn't walk. We made a seat for the patient by linking our hands and arms, and carried her outside together. We went back through the building to check no one was left behind in our ward(病房). Just then, we saw that a man doctor was calling for volunteers to go down to other wards with him to help more people. So we went together. The doctor went ahead of us and found one of the nurses partially covered with rubble(碎石),luckily still alive. Suddenly, the aftershock (余震)struck and the doctor ordered us to leave. The brave doctor intended to stay alone and risk his own life to save the nurse. 注意:续写字数应为150词左右。 Paragraph 1: However, without any hesitation, we made up our minds to stay with the doctor and save the nurse together. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Later in the afternoon, I had time to look around and saw some destroyed buildings. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】However, without any hesitation, we made up our minds to stay with the doctor and save the nurse together. The doctor encouraged the trapped nurse to stay calm, and in the meanwhile ,we focused our efforts on removing the bricks and the rubble that trapped her body. However, sometimes we were faced with falling rubble from time to time, despite which we continued. Gradually and slowly, we lifted the nurse out of the rubble. The doctor put the nurse on his back and walked out of the building with the help of us. Finally, all, including patients, nurses and doctors, were in the safe place. Later in the afternoon, I I had time to look around and saw the some destroyed buildings. My beautiful workplace lay beyond recognition, even some in ruins. At the sight of this, I felt a weight in my chest. Suddenly, the gentle wind danced around me, which made me thought of all the people surviving the earthquake with our help. It was our teamwork that made a difference. I held the firm belief that some day in the future my workplace would came back to life and took on a new look, where we would continue working together to save more patients. 上:focused on/fix on ②面对:were faced with/face ③继续:continued /keep on 情绪类 ①保持镇定:stay calm/keep calm ②感觉有压力:felt a weight in my chest/feel stressed 【点睛】[高分句型1]The doctor encouraged the trapped nurse to stay calm, and in the meanwhile ,we focused our efforts on removing the bricks and the rubble that trapped her body.(由that引导的定语从句) [高分句型2]However, sometimes we were faced with falling rubble from time to time, despite which we continued.(由which引导的定语从句) [高分句型3]I held the firm belief that some day in the future my workplace would came back to life and took on a new look, where we would continue working together to save more patients. B Fifteen years ago, Erin Merryn met Bailey, a kitten who needed a home when she was a college student. Love from Animals C Sometimes a book comes along that isn’t just “interesting” or “well done”— it’s a book where it seems like the author looked into your brain and wrote a book specifically for you. D Chocolate, a beloved treat worldwide, is often criticized for its high sugar content and environmental impact. A. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
