B[2025 广州改编]
发现彗星 When I was young, my father took me outside to see
the stars. Once we saw a comet (彗星)! It was the first comet
I'd seen but wasn't the last.#1.2
20
My name is Caroline Herschel. I was born in Hanover,
Germany in 1750. When I was 22, I moved to England to stay with
my elder brother, William. He was a musician and he offered me
singing lessons. I helped him with housework in return. I practiced
hard and soon started singing at his concerts.
Life changed when William became interested in astronomy
(天文学). He read about space late into the night. Breakfast often
turned into a lesson about stars. I learned a lot from him. And we
even started working together on a big task: building telescopes—
the special tools for seeing faraway things.
21
To make the perfect mirrors for our telescopes, we heated
metals (金属) and formed them using special molds (模具).
These molds were made from strange things, like dry horse waste. I
had to break it into small bits. It was dirty work, but I didn't
mind. Someone had to do it.
In 1781, William discovered something fantastic—a new planet!
King George was so glad that he made William his astronomer.
William made a telescope just for me. And I was able to search the
sky along with him.
On August 1, 1786, I found something special too—a comet! I
watched it carefully for one more night and discovered it was real.
Now everyone is talking about my comet. They call it the Lady's
Comet.
This is the first comet I've ever discovered, but I don't think it
will be the last.#1.8
Historical Note: After Caroline discovered her first comet, King
George paid her to be William's assistant (助手). She was one
of the first women astronomers to be paid for her work. She went
on to find seven more comets herself between 1786 and 1797.

DeekSeek的成功DeepSeek is amazing the AI world. On January
20th, 2025, Chinese AI company DeepSeek made its latest AI model,
DeepSeek-R1 come out, which took the AI world by surprise. The
model can perform the same tasks as other top models, but at a
lower cost. Unlike other AI models, DeepSeek-R1 is free to use,
making it easy for developers to study and build upon.
DeepSeek-R1 is very good at tasks that need logical inference
(逻辑推理) and real-time decision-making. Whether it's solving
28
difficult maths problems or breaking down other scientific questions,
DeepSeek-R1's special system allows it to improve its thinking and
problem-solving abilities over time.
On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers started
projects (项目) to study it and most thought highly of it. Even a
top scientist from Meta (a famous US tech company) praised it,
saying, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
The rise of DeepSeek has also brought its founder, Liang
Wenfeng, into the spotlight (聚光灯). Born in 1985 in a small
town in Guangdong Province, Liang was greatly influenced by his
parents who were both primary school teachers. Even though
without much information, Liang showed an amazing talent for
maths and a great love for technology from a young age. In
university, he developed a strong interest in machine learning, which
is helpful for his future achievements. In 2023, Liang founded
DeepSeek in Hangzhou. He has put together a talented team. So far,
they've developed several AI models.
DeepSeek is changing the AI industry. It proves that China
isn't just catching up with the West in technology—it's setting new
rules for the game.#1.1.4
