John liked me. He was a very good groom (马夫), and my black coat always shone beautifully. He looked at my feet every day. He knew when one of them hurt. Then he put something onto it. He often talked to me. I didn’t know every word, but I soon understood him. I liked John more than anybody.
After two or three days, I pulled a carriage (马车) with Ginger. John drove us, and we worked very well. Ginger pulled as hard as me, and she also liked going more quickly. Many horses only go fast when the driver hits them with his whip (鞭子). Ginger and I went fast when the driver wanted us to go fast. We went as fast as we could. John didn’t like the whip, and he never whipped us.
After Ginger and I went out two or three times with the carriage, we were good friends. We liked little Merry Legs very much. He was never afraid and always happy. Mr Gordon’s little girls loved riding him. Mrs Gordon loved all three of us, and we loved her.
Mr Gordon liked his people to have one day without work every week. His horses also had a day without work. On Sundays he took us to a field of good grass. We played, and we were happy. Then we stood under some trees and told stories.

I’m Robert and I live in Shanghai now. Last weekend, I went to a village for a vacation with my friends.
My trip started early in the morning at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. After two hours on the train to Ningbo and more than two hours on the bus, I arrived at the village. Fengpuao looks so small on the map, but 2,000 people live there next to a lake and forests.
I stayed with my host family (寄宿家庭) for two days, and they were friendly to me. They told me that I could call them Mama and Baba.
They had a daughter called Eva and she showed me around the garden and told me how to grow vegetables. I also went with Baba to a bamboo forest. Then we went to the lake to go fishing. In the evening, my family and friends came over. We had a big dinner together.
The next day I woke up with the song of birds, something I never had in Shanghai. After breakfast, we went to work on the farm all day. I learned much about farm work. It was hard but very interesting. That evening, I came back to Shanghai.
The trip was only two days, but it made me relax from the busy life. And it was a great time together with my host family.

Everyone knows buildings don’t move. They can’t change the way they look. However, a person named David Fisher wants to change that. He wants to make a building with 80 floors. It can change its shape. Each floor will move around slowly. The floors will move at different speeds (速度). Because of this, the shape of this building is always changing. “These buildings will never look the same,” says Fisher.
His idea is interesting. However, Fisher doesn’t stop there. He also wants the building to be “green”. This building will make its own energy. In most buildings, only the top floor has a roof (屋顶). In Fisher’s building, each floor will have its own roof. Each of the floors has solar panels (太阳能板). This means each floor has its own solar energy. Also, machines between each floor of the building will catch the wind. They will turn the wind into energy.
Fisher’s idea sounds nearly impossible. However, that’s what people also said before human travelled into space.
24. What does the underlined word “shape” mean in Chinese?
A. 大小 B. 高度 C. 重量 D. 形状
25. How many kinds of energy can Fisher’s building make itself?
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
26. How will Fisher make his building green?
A. He will paint it green. B. He will make it produce its own energy.
C. He will put a lot of leaves on it. D. He will plant many trees around it.
27. What can we know from the passage?
A. Fisher’s building has only one roof.
B. Fisher built a building that can move several years ago.
C. Fisher’s building looks the same as the buildings we see now.
D. It’s hard but possible to make Fisher’s dream come true.

Communication is how we share ideas and feelings—how we laugh, help, and understand each other. From the past to now, humans have found many ways to connect. Long ago, people wrote letters or shouted messages across villages. Today, a text can reach someone on the other side of the world in seconds.
Good communication needs tools and understanding. In the past, kings sent people on horses for days to share news. Today, TV and apps let us exchange stories at once. A farmer in the countryside and a student in Shanghai can watch the same news. Even simple video calls with grandparents show how technology brings us closer.
________ Take dolphins, the playful sea animals, for example. They “talk” by taking turns making different sounds and using body language. One might hit the water to say, “There’s tasty fish here!” while another blows bubbles to say, “Be careful of sharks!” They comfort each other by touching fins (鱼鳍).
Great communicators listen as much as they speak. In a conversation, we need to let others express themselves. Teachers use simple words and see if students understand in class. Dolphins change their sounds if others seem worried. Clear communication builds trust (信任), like kids sharing secrets or dolphins working together to find food.
As technology develops, our ways to share love, joy, or ask for help grow too. Maybe one day AI will help us understand animals like dolphins by translating (翻译) their sounds. Every step in learning to connect creates a better future together.
28. Which can be put in _________?
A. Dolphins show love in special ways. B. Dolphins protect themselves cleverly.
C. Animals can communicate in amazing ways. D. Animals should work together to hunt food.
29. Who are great communicators according to the article?
A. Loud teachers. B. Quick repliers. C. Young learners. D. Good listeners.
30. Which picture can describe the main idea of the article?
A. B. C. D.

One morning, Mary Anne asked Donnie to answer some questions. After some time, Donnie cried because he made a mistake. Then Mary Anne got a box and walked to Donnie.
“Look, Donnie,” she said, standing near him. “I have something to show you.” She opened the box and there were some erasers in it.
“Look at these erasers, Donnie. Do you know why they become smaller and smaller?” Mary Anne asked.
Donnie shook his head. He wondered what Mary Anne would do next.
Mary Anne said, “That’s because we make mistakes sometimes, and they can help us erase the mistakes so we can try again.”
Then she picked up one eraser from the box and said, “I will give you one eraser, so you will remember that everybody may make mistakes.” Donnie looked at Mary Anne and smiled.
