第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分 50 分 )
第一节(共 15 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分 )
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
When I started school, my hands kept shaking. I went to a doctor and was told that I had a nervous system disorder that can cause a person’s hands to shake. I had no idea what I was going to do. One day, I saw a woodcock outside my apartment window, and I had never seen anything like it. So I read about the bird online and took an ornithology class. The professor asked me if I was doing research. I had no idea that undergraduates could even do anything like that. That professor became my undergraduate advisor, and I started working in her lab. She was also my PhD advisor. I stayed in her lab for 11 years.
Now I have a paper coming out soon that looks at the global diversity of parrots. One figure in it is, I think, the best thing I’ve ever done. It shows the family tree of parrots, over a picture of Gondwana breaking up. Gondwana is the supercontinent that South America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand all used to be part of. As that broke up into the continents that we know better now, some families of parrots parted.
My biggest failure in science thus far is my inability to explain how the Carolina parakeet went extinct. I’ve been working on this for seven years. I’ve read lots of historical books and travel diaries. And I never figured it out.
That’s the thing about science. Most of the time, you start out with a really clear idea of what you think is going to happen. And it almost never happens that way. I’ve got a lot out of this research. I’ve learned a lot about the species. But there are just some things that we’ll never know. Finally, I have to accept that maybe I’ll figure it out one day, maybe I won’t. But that’s OK.
21. What made the author take up ornithology research?
A. The doctor’s words. B. The difficulty of finding a job.
C. The beauty of a woodcock. D. The help of a professor.
22. What’s the author’s paper mentioned in Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The parrots’ diversity all over the world. B. The big family tree of parrots.
C. The influence of weather on parrots. D. The breakup of a continent.
23. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. The bird. B. The extinction. C. The failure. D. The travel diary.
24. What does the author think of this research?
A. It is costly. B. It is discouraging. C. It is worth doing. D. It is easy to carry out.
【答案】21. D 22. A 23. B 24. C

Known by the Nazis as the “White Mouse”, Nancy Wake is Australia’s most celebrated World War II resistance fighter.
Hearing the name the “White Mouse”, most people would imagine that Nancy was mild, and shy, but nothing could be further from the truth. Nancy Wake was a brave and fearless woman who took part in dangerous tasks to save the lives of Allied servicemen and war refugees.
As a journalist living in France, Nancy witnessed firsthand the cruelty of the Nazis and made up her mind to fight it any way she could. When the war started, Nancy helped hundreds of people escape to neutral ( 中立的) Spain. Placed on top of the Gestapo’s most-wanted list, Nancy was referred to as the “White Mouse” because of the way she slipped (溜走) through their fingers and avoided detection.
Nancy was sent to England in 1943 to join the British Special Operations Executive (SOE). She was trained in parachuting and surveillance (监视), throwing herself into these activities with strength and determination. She was later parachuted into France, where she helped organise and lead resistance fighters. On one memorable occasion she walked and cycled 500km through several German checkpoints to find a radio operator. She believed that being female allowed her to pass through checkpoints that no one else could get through.
Nancy received medals from Allied countries. The medals are displayed in the World War II gallery at the Australian War Memorial, and form a fitting tribute to this fearless woman, who passed away in 2011.
Perhaps the best words to underline Nancy Wake’s spirit came from her own lips: “I hate wars and violence. But if they come, I don’t see why we women should just wave our men a proud goodbye and then make them shoes, socks and gloves.”
25. What might most people think of Nancy Wake on hearing her nickname?
A. She was a protective woman.
B. She was gentle and easily harmed.
C. She would like to tell the truth all the time.
D. She was not afraid of being involved in a war.
26. What did Nancy Wake do at the start of the war?
A. She got a full copy of the Gestapo’s most-wanted list.
B. She helped people get away from war areas.
C. She organised and led resistance fighters.
D. She left France for Spain for good.
27. What can be learned about Nancy Wake as a female soldier?
A. She fell victim to cruelty easily.
B. She died in a parachute accident.
C. She became a successful radio operator.
D. She got past German checkpoints successfully.
28. Which of the following is probably Nancy Wake’s belief ?
A. Women can fight on the front line.
B. Women can make a great difference at home.
C. Women should be trained to support the family.
D. Women shouldn’t put themselves in high-risk situations.
【答案】25. B 26. B 27. D 28. A

With advances in robotics and artificial intelligence continuing to surprise us, there probably is not a single industry being left untouched by these technologies. Though some believe that robots are dangerous for our society and could gradually make humans obsolete, the reality is far less dramatic. Today, tech companies are developing smart robots suitable for a variety of services. One such innovation comes from the French robot developer, Hease Robotics.
The company’s robotic solution, called Heasy, can be used in shopping centres, train stations, or airports. This autonomous robot is designed to greet, inform and guide customers. Thanks to its smart AI algorithms (算法), the robot will navigate (穿行) safely through crowded environments without bumping into people or objects. The machine is battery-operated and can run for eight hours on a single charge. 85% of people who interacted with Heasy said they were satisfied with the service provided by the robot.
The age of human-robot coexistence has come, and this doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. There are many ways we can turn this to our advantage. Take home robots, for example. The U.S. robotics firm Anki has created a robot called Vector to add fun to our daily routines. Vector is a small, autonomous companion equipped with a camera and machine learning tech. The robot won’t sweep your floors or take out the garbage. It will, however, serve as an adorable (讨人喜爱的) addition to your household.
If you’ve always wanted to have a pet, but weren’t allowed to own any, then Vector might be the right solution. When you call the robot, Vector will activate and turn to you, carefully listening for commands. You can simply ask for a weather forecast and the robot will respond in a second. And in case you forget to charge it, the robot will go to its charging dock by itself.
Both AI and robotics have come a long way. Robots are becoming smarter, and while people still have mixed feelings about this technology, the truth is that we can’t go back. Instead of fearing these innovations, we should accept them — after all, there isn’t much we can do to prevent the ongoing advancement of technology.
29. What does the underlined word “obsolete” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Outdated. B. Comfortable. C. Ashamed. D. Knowledgeable.
30. What do we know about Heasy?
A. It can charge up all by itself.
B. It works eight hours every day.
C. It is popular with shopping assistants.
D. It can work in a crowded environment.
31. What is Vector mainly used for?
A. Cleaning houses. B. Teaching children.
C. Looking after pets. D. Entertaining people.
32. How does the author look at the development of AI and robotics?
A. Critically. B. Cautiously. C. Objectively. D. Doubtfully.
【答案】29. A 30. D 31. D 32. C

Tired of standing in line? Wait a bit longer, and you may never have to again. Everyone from Amazon to Silicon Valley start-ups is trying to eliminate lines in retail (零售) stores.
Amazon has opened 24 of its Amazon Go stores, which use cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) to see what you’ve taken off shelves and charge you as you walk out. Some start-ups are closely copying Amazon’s approach to using AI-powered cameras fixed in ceilings. But others are trying an entirely different way to skip the checkout: smart shopping carts. These companies have added cameras and sensors (传感器) to the carts, and are using AI to tell what you’ve placed in them. A built-in scale weighs items, in case you have to pay by the pound for an item. Customers pay by using a credit card, or through an online payment system. When customers exit the store, a green light on the shopping cart indicates that their orders are complete, and they’re charged.
The start-ups behind the smart shopping carts, including Caper and Veeve, say it’s much easier to add technology to the shopping cart than to an entire store. Amazon Go stores rely on hundreds of cameras in the ceiling. The shelves also include sensors to tell when an item is removed. Ahmed Beshry, cofounder of Caper, believes the technology to run Amazon Go is too expensive to use in a large grocery store. Neither Caper nor Veeve has said how much their smart shopping carts will cost, making it difficult to compare the different formats. Shariq Siddiqui, CEO of Veeve, said he’s finding increased interest from retailers given Amazon’s steady expansion of Amazon Go since the first Amazon Go store opened in Seattle in 2018. “We’re always happy when Amazon is doing something,” Siddiqui said. “They force retailers to get out of their old-school thinking.”
Each time a business uses artificial intelligence and cameras, it raises questions about customer privacy and the impact on jobs. Beshry notes that the cameras in his smart shopping cart point down into the cart, so only customers’ hands and part of their arms will be captured (拍摄) by cameras.
33. Which of the following best explains “eliminate” underlined in paragraph 1?
A. Shift. B. Break. C. Extend. D. Remove.
34. What do we know about the smart shopping carts?
A. They are linked to the cameras fixed in the ceilings.
B. They are able to recognize purchases placed in them.
C. They flash the green light when the order is cancelled.
D. They can tell customers where to find what they want.
35. What does Beshry think of the technology applied in Amazon Go stores?
A. It is far more expensive than their smart shopping carts.
B. It has attracted many more retailers than before.
C. It may increase the cost of running a large grocery store greatly.
D. It is likely to help retailers to think differently.
36. What is the best title for the text?
A. The New Technology Promotes Retail Sales
B. AI-powered Cameras Are Used in Retail Stores
C. Artificial Intelligence Affects the Future Job Market
D. Smart Shopping Carts Will Let You Skip the Line
【答案】33. D 34. B 35. C 36. D

上文“In such a case, people are more willing to learn new things.(这种情况下,人们更愿意学习新事物)”讲述乐于学习新事物,下文“Thus, they are capable of meeting new requirements in their job.(因此,他们能够满足工作中的新要求)”说明能满足工作新要求。空处承接上文,和下文形成因果关系,说明学习带来的结果。所以G项“学习能让他们更灵活、适应力更强”符合语境。
【39题详解】
上文“Learning or working in a new environment, you need to have a good sense of judgement when joining a discussion or making a decision.(在新环境中学习或工作时,你需要在参与讨论或做出决定时有良好的判断力)”说明决策的重要性,下文“You need to look for long-term goals, and ensure not to be distracted by small choices for the short term.(你需要寻找长期目标,并确保不要被短期的小选择分心)”讲述要着眼长远目标、不被短期小事干扰。空处应与判断力、做决策相关。所以D项“你要考量实质上正确的事。”符合语境,与上下文“判断力——长远目标”逻辑一致。
【40题详解】
下文“For example, if you are going to an interview, but you don’t feel confident, what can you do? Before you walk in, think to yourself, “I own the room.” Then, walk in holding your head high and smile. Remember to look other people in the eye. Soon, you will feel as confident as you look.(例如,如果你要去面试,但你不自信,你能做什么?在你走进房间之前,先对自己说,“我拥有这个房间。”然后,高昂着头微笑着走进房间。记得看着别人的眼睛。很快,你会像看起来一样自信)”举例说明自信的表现。空处和前文为总分关系,概括本段主旨。F项“与人见面时,表现得自信至关重要。”符合语境。
【41题详解】
下文“When working together with others, it is important that you have a clear vision and a working plan to achieve it.(与他人合作时,重要的是你有清晰的愿景和实现它的工作计划)”说明设定目标的重要性。空处为本段小标题,总结段落核心。B项“设定明确的目标并为之奋斗。”符合语境。

Dear fellow students,
Nowadays, more and more teenagers are spending too much time online. Overusing it may result in poor eyesight, sleep loss, and declining academic performance. Worse still, it isolates us from friends and family, leading to loneliness and stress.
To prevent addiction, we can take the following steps. Set a clear time limit for daily online use — one hour at most. Replace screen time with sports, reading, or other hobbies. Also, turn off your phone or computer while doing homework and before bed. These small changes can make a big difference.
Let’s take action now. Say no to Internet addiction and embrace a healthy life!

第二节(满分 25 分 )
68. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a perfect Saturday afternoon. The sun was warm, and Leo and his three best friends had been playing soccer in the park for over an hour. The game was getting intense. Leo’s team was losing, and there were only minutes left.
Then Leo kicked the ball too hard. It flew through the air, turned wildly, and went over the park fence, across the street, and straight toward Mrs. Gable’s house—the old woman on the corner who everyone said was always watching from her window.
The sound of breaking glass stopped all four boys. For a long moment, nobody moved or spoke. Then they ran to the fence and saw it — Mrs. Gable’s front window had a round hole in it, exactly the size of a soccer ball. Small pieces of glass shone on the ground below. The ball lay in her flower bed, crushing (压坏) her best roses.
A light came on inside the house. A dark shape moved behind the curtain (窗帘). Without a word, the four boys started and ran away quickly — through the park and into the woods behind the school. They did not stop until they were sure no one had followed them.
Breathing hard against a tree, Leo’s friends started talking nervously. They told each other that Mrs. Gable had not seen them. They had been too fast, too far away, too hidden by the trees.
But Leo’s stomach felt sick. He kept thinking about the broken window and Mrs. Gable — who lived alone and hardly ever had visitors. His friends shook it off, saying she was just a mean old lady who shouted at kids for walking on her grass. They told Leo to forget about it. Leo did not answer. He went home in silence.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
That night, Leo could not sleep.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next morning, he arrived at Mrs. Gable’s door.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
That night, Leo could not sleep. He lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, but all he could see was the broken window. He kept picturing Mrs. Gable sitting alone in her dark living room, with no one to help her fix the hole. His friends had chosen to run away and hide, but Leo could not stop thinking about the old woman. The guilt grew heavier on his chest with each passing hour. He knew that staying silent would only make him feel worse. Then he made a decision — he would go back and take responsibility for what he had done
The next morning, he arrived at Mrs. Gable’s door. Leo knocked at the door with his heart beating fast. When the door opened, a hard and cold face appeared before him. Taking a deep breath, Leo told her everything and offered to fix the window. After Mrs. Gable heard his words, her face softened. She accepted his offer, praising him for his honesty. Finally, as he walked home, ball in hand, he felt the weight lifted from his chest. In his paces was something lighter, something like growing up.

B

D. Doubtfully.
