On a holiday weekend, a lion at the London Zoo in the UK was eating something red. What was it? Take a closer look - it's an ice lolly(冰棒)! The UK is very hot right now, and even lions have ice lollies from the zookeepers to cool down.
On May 26, the highest temperature in the UK was over 35°C, breaking the record for the hottest day in May on record. Other places in Europe, like France and Spain, were also very hot. This is because of a "heat dome(热穹顶)". It happens because high pressure(压力) pushes the air down and makes it warmer. When the warm air tries to go up, the pressure pushes it back down and heats it more. This makes a dome of hot air that can last for days or weeks. It acts like a "lid(盖子)" in the sky and makes everything below very hot.
According to the BBC, a fast - moving, narrow air current(狭窄的气流) is now to the north of
the UK and will move south. This means more low - pressure areas, some rain and stronger winds will arrive soon. All of these could help cool down the hot air.
How do wild animals stay cool in such hot weather? Don't worry! They are very clever. Koalas press(贴)their fur against cool tree branches. Squirrels(松鼠) use their big tails for shade(阴凉). While elephants flap(扇动)their ears. They all have smart ways to cool down.
19. Why did the zoo keepers give ice lollies to the lion?
A. To train it for a special act.
B. To help it eat food better.
C. To celebrate its birthday.
D. To help it cool down on hot days.
20. Which of the following pictures shows how air moves under a "heat dome"?
21. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The cool weather will come to the UK soon.
B. Animals in zoos can always eat ice lollies.
C. Heat dome only happens in the UK in May.
D. Animals don't feel hot at all in the wild.
22. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How most animals live at the London Zoo.
B. What lions eat at the London Zoo in summer.
C. Why the weather in Europe is so hot these days.
D. What problems a "heat dome" can bring to animals.

But now everyone shows respect."

My First Year in Grade Seven
How time flies! My first year in junior high school is coming to an end. Looking back on this year, I have a lot of special feelings. Grade Seven is quite different from primary school. There are more subjects and I feel a little busy at first, but it also brings me much new knowledge and a lot of fun.
What impresses me most is the school sports meeting last autumn. I took part in the 1000meter race. I was nervous at first and even wanted to give up when I felt tired halfway. But all my classmates cheered for me loudly. I kept running and finally finished the third place. I was so moved and learned the importance of persistence.
Besides, I also developed a good habit of reading 30 minutes before going to bed every day. Reading opens up a new world for me. I can learn a lot of things that I can't get from textbooks. This year is really meaningful to me, and I am looking forward to the coming new grade.
