B
When we started our online acting course we got a number of emails and comments saying “You can’t possibly learn acting online!” Though we were proud of what we’d created, we too were doubtful about whether acting could be learnt effectively online. Luke and I, the two teachers of the course, had studied at a top drama school. We had worked on our acting skills day in and day out, and so we knew the value of hands-on training. Maybe learning acting using a smartphone or computer could be difficult or impossible?
However, we persevered.
We started our first course on December 1st, 2021 and students loved it. We have since worked with over 100 students, and found that learning online is not only a workable method, for some actors it’s preferable. We mainly attracted students who were previously too shy to attend an acting class. We found that in the comfort of their own home, many actors felt safe enough to dive headfirst (一头扎进) into their acting. They not only overcame their fears, but they improved. We helped actors in the remotest corners of the earth, who, as long as they had an Internet connection, could get started on their acting careers.
So after running a number of online acting courses now, I can safely say that it’s definitely a reasonable way to learn acting. Of course it can’t be done in isolation (孤立). You have to take your knowledge and put it into practice: making your own work, performing and working on your skills daily. It also can’t be a one-off. Even actors who have been in the industry for 20 plus years have to keep training. I recommend exploring a variety of different training programs and learning from every experience you have as an actor.
41. What was the author’s attitude towards learning acting online at first?
A. Uninterested. B. Supportive. C. Hopeful. D. Doubtful.
42. What does the underlined word “persevered” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Didn’t stop. B. Didn’t refuse. C. Didn’t worry. D. Didn’t admit.
43. Who do the author’s acting courses mainly appeal to?
A. Students from top drama schools.
B. Students who know nothing about acting.
C. Students afraid of acting in front of others.
D. Students who don’t want to start an acting career.
44. What is important to actors according to the author?
A. Working relationship. B. Acting practice. C. Social experience. D. Educational background.
45. What is the best title for this text?
A. Can you learn acting online? B. Different ways to learn acting
C. What can online acting courses offer? D. My experience of learning acting online

根据第一段中的“Though we were proud of what we’d created, we too were doubtful about whether acting could be learnt effectively online.(尽管我们为自己打造的课程感到自豪,但我们也怀疑表演能否通过线上方式有效学习。)”
根据第一段中的“Maybe learning acting using a smartphone or computer could be difficult or impossible?(通过手机或电脑学习表演或许十分困难、行不通?)”以及第二段中的“However, we persevered.(但我们persevered。)”
根据第三段中的“We mainly attracted students who were previously too shy to attend an acting class.(我们的课程主要吸引那些从前过于害羞、不敢线下参加表演课的学生。)”
根据第四段中的“You have to take your knowledge and put it into practice: making your own work, performing and working on your skills daily.(你必须学习知识并将所学知识付诸实践:创作自己的作品、表演、每日打磨演技。)”
通读全文,尤其是首段中的“When we started our online acting course we got a number of emails and comments saying “You can’t possibly learn acting online!” Though we were proud of what we’d created, we too were doubtful about whether acting could be learnt effectively online.(我们开设线上表演课程时,收到许多邮件和评论,称“你不可能在线学习表演!”尽管我们为自己打造的课程感到自豪,但我们也怀疑表演能否通过线上方式有效学习。)”以及尾段中的“So after running a number of online acting courses now, I can safely say that it’s definitely a reasonable way to learn acting.(所以在开设多期线上表演课程后,我可以肯定地说,这绝对是一种合理的学习表演的方式。)”
C
The wind is whistling (呼啸) past your ears, your face feels tight (绷紧的), your body is preparing for the next powerful rush of wind, and your full focus is on placing one foot in front of the other. You return home and the blood is rushing to your face. Settled down with a hot drink to warm your fingers, you notice that you feel different. Your mind is clear, and you feel energised.
It’s an experience that many of us can understand, to the point that the Dutch have a word for this: uitwaaien. Translating to “out blowing”, uitwaaien is the tradition of getting out in windy weather, with the goal of refreshing and rejuvenating (使恢复精神) ourselves.
“It doesn’t have to be some romantic idea of shouting into the wind on a mountain top, just getting outside for a walk on a great day can have so many benefits for us,” explains Jennifer Deacon, a counsellor with a special interest in the environment.
So, what’s the science behind all this? Well, for one thing, a study published in the Journal of Health Economics found that cold temperatures reduce negative mental health outcomes, while hot temperatures increase them. Plus, walking in windy weather can be healthier for us physically. The air on windy days tends to be cleaner, so you are less likely to take in germs and pollutants
The key thing is that you don’t have to go off on huge adventures to enjoy uitwaaien, you can start on your doorstep.
“Research shows the most important factors in improving our well-being are about engaging with nature around you, rather than the time spent,” Jennifer explains. “It doesn’t even have to be walking, sometimes sitting outside can be a great opportunity to connect with nature. It’s about noticing the natural world.”
So, this year, make an effort to view the windy, “bad” weather not as a reason to stay put inside, but as an invitation to take some time to clear your head.

When I was nine, my parents took us to the lake every day for a whole summer; me and my two brothers, Hap and Danny, and our friend Jimmy. We were all a little too wild.
At that time, our car had only an AM radio. A trip to the lake meant over an hour in the car each way, along with winding mountain roads where the AM radio was useless. My parents must have figured out early on that summer that if they didn’t keep us four boys busy and focused, we would eventually start fighting just to have something to do.
They made up games. They told stories. They sang songs. And they recited poems. I still don’t know how, but my dad had memorized a great many poems. He could recite
“Casey at the Bat,” “The Raven,” “Dangerous Dan McGrew,” or any of the other narrative poems at the drop of a hat.
One of the poems that captivated me most was a bit of nonsense verse (打油诗) which I later found out was called “The Dying Fisherman’s Song.” It begins: “Twas a summer’s day in winter / And the rain was snowing fast / As a barefoot girl with shoes on / Stood sitting in the grass …”
I was hooked (着迷的). I recited these lines in my head over and over, week after week, until they burned new electrical pathways in my brain.
I did what any 9-year-old poetry addict would do, given the circumstances: I read CRICKET magazine, hungrily. I was greatly influenced by their poems, and I am so thankful for what its publisher, Marianne Carus, did — creating such a perfect magazine for 9-year-olds.
Yes, I fell in love with funny children’s poetry. It’s a love affair that continues to this day, 10 books (of my own) later.
51. Why did the author’s father recite poems on their car trips? (no more than 10 words)
_________________________________________________________________________________
52. What does the underlined word “captivated” mean in Para. 4? (1 word)
_________________________________________________________________________________
53. Why does the author show his thanks to Marianne Carus? (no more than 10 words)
_________________________________________________________________________________
54. What is the author’s purpose in writing this text? (no more than 10 words)
_________________________________________________________________________________
55. Do you love poetry? And why? (no more than 20 words)
_________________________________________________________________________________
51. To keep the boys busy and focused.
52. Attracted/Fascinated.
53. She created a perfect magazine for children.
54. To share how he fell in love with poetry.
55. Yes, because poetry brings beauty and enjoyment to life.
根据文章第二段中“My parents must have figured out early on that summer that if they didn’t keep us four boys busy and focused, we would eventually start fighting just to have something to do.(那年夏天,我的父母一定很早就意识到,如果他们不让我们四个男孩忙碌起来、集中注意力,我们最终会因为没事干而开始打架。)”
根据第六段中“I was hooked (着迷的). I recited these lines in my head over and over, week after week, until they burned new electrical pathways in my brain.(我着迷了。我在脑海里一遍又一遍地背诵这些诗句,直到它们在我的大脑中燃烧出新的电通路。)”可知,画线词captivated意为“被吸引、着迷”,与attracted或fascinated同义。
【53题详解】
考查细节理解。根据倒数第二段中“I was greatly influenced by their poems, and I am so thankful for what its publisher, Marianne Carus, did — creating such a perfect magazine for 9-year-olds.(我深受他们诗歌的影响,并且非常感谢其出版人玛丽安·卡鲁斯所做的——为9岁的孩子们创办了这样一本完美的杂志。)”
根据文章最后一段“Yes, I fell in love with funny children’s poetry. It’s a love affair that continues to this day, 10 books (of my own) later.(是的,我爱上了有趣的儿童诗歌。这份热爱一直持续到今天,此后我自己也出版了10本书。)”可知,作者通过讲述童年时父亲背诗、自己沉迷诗歌、受杂志影响并最终成为诗人的全过程,旨在分享他是如何爱上诗歌的。
【55题详解】
开放性问题,合理即可。本题要求回答是否喜欢诗歌,并说明原因。我的答案是:我喜欢诗,因为诗给生活带来了美和享受。

To promote it, eye-catching posters will be put up and detailed information will be posted on our school website. Additionally, inspiring speeches will be delivered during the morning assembly.
As for concrete actions, we should sort our garbage properly to facilitate recycling. It is also a great idea to collect and reuse old books instead of throwing them away. Last but not least, let’s cherish the flowers and trees on campus.
