A good book is like a good friend. It can accompany us through difficult times and bring us joy and wisdom. But how to choose a good book that suits us? Many people feel confused when they are faced with a large number of books in the library or bookstore.
The first thing to consider is your own interest. If you are interested in science, you can choose science books or science fiction novels. If you like stories, you can read storybooks or novels. Choosing a book that you are interested in will make reading more enjoyable and help you stick to it. If you choose a book that you don’t like, you will easily get bored and give up halfway.
Another important factor is the difficulty of the book. For students, it is not a good idea to choose books that are too difficult or too easy. Books that are too difficult will make you feel frustrated, while books that are too easy will not help you improve. You can choose books that are a little challenging but still understandable. You can also ask your teachers or parents for advice. They have more experience and can recommend suitable books for you.
You can also read book reviews before choosing a book. Book reviews are written by people who have read the book. They can tell you the main content of the book and their feelings about it. This can help you know whether the book is worth reading or not. In addition, you can also try reading a few pages of the book first. If you feel interested after reading a few pages, you can buy or borrow it.
Choosing a good book is the first step to enjoying reading. Once you find a book that suits you, you will find that reading is a wonderful experience. It can open your mind and enrich your life. So take your time to choose a good book and start your reading journey today.
48. What is the first thing to consider when choosing a good book?
A. The price of the book. B. Your own interest.
C. The difficulty of the book. D. The length of the book.
49. Why is it not good to choose books that are too difficult?
A. They are too expensive. B. They are too long.
C. They will make you frustrated. D. They are not interesting.
50. Which of the following best describes the meaning of “frustrated” in the passage?
A. Feeling happy and excited about a challenge
B. Feeling sad and disappointed because something is too hard
C. Feeling angry and mad at someone else
D. Feeling tired and sleepy after reading
51. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Book reviews are not helpful for choosing books.

Jiuzhaigou, located in Sichuan Province, is one of the most beautiful natural scenic spots in China. It was listed as a World Natural Heritage Site in 1992, and it is famous for its colourful lakes, waterfalls and snow-capped mountains.
The name “Jiuzhaigou” means “the valley of nine Tibetan villages”. There are nine traditional Tibetan villages in the valley, and the local people live in harmony with nature. The most amazing part of Jiuzhaigou is its lakes. The water of the lakes is in different colours, like blue, green, turquoise and even red. The colours change with the light and the season, which makes the lakes look like precious gemstones. The reason for the colourful water is the special minerals (矿物质) and algae (藻类) in the lake bed, which show the sunlight in different ways.
Jiuzhaigou has more than 100 lakes and waterfalls. The Nuorilang Waterfall is the most famous one. It is 27 meters high and 270 meters wide, and it is the widest calcified (钙化) waterfall in China. When the water falls down from the mountain, it makes a loud sound, and the water flies everywhere. Standing in front of the waterfall, you will feel the power of nature.
In addition to lakes and waterfalls, Jiuzhaigou also has beautiful forests and snow-covered mountains. The forest is home to many special animals and plants, such as giant pandas, golden monkeys and Chinese dove trees.
Jiuzhaigou is a place of natural beauty. It is a gift from nature to humans. However, it was once damaged (破坏) by an earthquake in 2017. After years of repair and protection, most of the scenic spots have been reopened to the public. We should cherish this beautiful place and protect it well, so that it can always keep its beauty.

Books that are too difficult will make you feel frustrated, while books that are too easy will not help you improve. You can choose books that are a little challenging but still understandable. You can also ask your teachers or parents for advice. They have more experience and can recommend suitable books for you.
