Last semester, I went to a middle school in London as an exchange student. At first, I was nervous about the cultural differences.
On my first day, my classmate Emma came up to me and said, “Hi, let’s hang out after school!” I was confused because I thought “hang out” meant “go to a park”. Later I learned it means “spend time together”.
At lunch, I noticed everyone was eating with forks and knives, but I used chopsticks. My classmates were curious and asked me to teach them how to use chopsticks. I was happy to share.
I also learned that British people value queuing—they wait in line for everything, from buying coffee to getting on the bus. Being late is considered rude, so everyone tries to arrive on time.
This experience taught me that different cultures have different rules, and being open-minded helps you make friends easily.

A. London. B. Paris. C. New York. D. Sydney.

Recently, the world has been excited about a new AI model, DeepSeek-R1. It was developed by DeepSeek, a Chinese business in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The new AI came out on Jan 20. In just one week, it beat OpenAI’s ChatGPT and became the top free app in Apple’s App Store.
The developers said that DeepSeek-R1 is as good at difficult tasks as other big models but needs less computing power (算力). It is also the cheapest of its kind and took only about 5.57 million US dollars (40.58 million yuan) to develop, while US businesses have had to spend much more money building similar AI models.
DeepSeek-R1’s success largely came from its special training method. Traditionally, AI is trained in two ways. One is Chain-of-Thought (CoT). In this way, AI learns to break problems into smaller and simpler steps. The other is Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT). It works by showing AI lots of problems together with the right answers for it to find a pattern (模式). DeepSeek-R1, however, used Reinforcement Learning (RL) as the key method. In RL, AI learns by trying different things. It gets rewards for correct actions and gets punished for mistakes. For example, in a game, it gets points for picking up rubbish and loses points for breaking a glass. Over time, it works out the best solution (解决方法) all by itself.
In short, DeepSeek-R1 is great. This model shows that China is getting better at AI. DeepSeek-R1 tells us that new ideas can make AI grow, and it will help many parts of our life.
36. How does Paragraph 2 show that DeepSeek-R1 has a low cost?
A. By giving an example. B. By listing the number. C. By asking a question. D. By telling a story.
37. The underlined word “rewards” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
38. Which statement about DeepSeek-R1 is TRUE?
A. It performs much worse than other large AI models on hard tasks.
B. It requires fewer computing resources than other big AI models.
C. It cost over 40 million US dollars to create.
D. It failed to rank high in Apple’s App Store at first.
39. Which is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
40. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The history of DeepSeek-R1. B. The developers of DeepSeek-R1.
C. The work of DeepSeek-R1. D. The introduction to DeepSeek-R1.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals. It falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year.
The festival has a history of over 2,000 years and is closely associated with the poet Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan was a loyal minister of the State of Chu during the Warring States Period. When his state was defeated, he drowned himself in the Miluo River out of sorrow. Local people rowed boats to try to save him and threw rice dumplings into the water to prevent fish from eating his body.
Today, people celebrate the festival in several ways. The most famous tradition is dragon boat racing. Teams of paddlers race in long boats decorated with dragon heads. Another important tradition is eating zongzi—sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves with various fillings such as pork, beans, or dates.
The festival is not only celebrated in China but also in many other Asian countries. In 2009, it was added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Dave: Anything else?
Mary: Yes! I wore a formal dress to the outdoor party.
Dave: Maybe you should ask what to wear next time.
Mary: You’re right. I felt very uncomfortable.
Dave: Don’t worry. ____________50____________
Mary: Thanks, Dave. I will learn more about local customs.
46. How was the party?
47. What happened?
48. It’s polite to arrive on time in this country.
49. You should shake hands.
50. Remember that different countries have different customs. / You’ll get used to the customs soon.
I heard you went to Paul’s party.”,Dave得知Mary参加了派对,想要先了解她的派对体验;可知此处应填入询问派对感受的问句。填“How was the party?”精准承接语境,并且和下文Mary的回答“It was so embarrassing! I made many mistakes.”
填“What happened?”
填“It’s polite to arrive on time in this country.”直接点出本地准时到场才是礼貌行为,和Mary下一句“But in my country, it's actually polite to arrive late.”
填“You should shake hands here.” But I didn’t know that we should shake hands here instead of giving a kiss.”
填“Remember that different countries have different customs. / You’ll get used to the customs soon.” I will learn more about local customs.”

29. Where did the writer go as an exchange student?
A. London. B. Paris. C. New York. D. Sydney.
30. What did the writer think “hang out” meant at first?
A. Spend time together. B. Go to a park. C. Have dinner together. D. Study in a group.
31. What do British people value according to the passage?

C. Eating fast food every day. D. Wearing formal clothes to school.
Foxes with nine tails, animals with human faces and fish bodies, turtles with bird heads and snake tails, these magical animals are from Shan Hai Jing (The Classic of Mountains and Seas). This old book played an important role in the world and inspired (给予灵感) today’s works. Let’s learn more about it!
Shan Hai Jing took shape before the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). Like an encyclopedia (百科全书), it writes about the world in the eyes of people at that time. The 30,000-word book records about 40 states, 550 mountains, 300 rivers, more than 100 people in history and 400 interesting animals.
Shan Hai Jing had a deep influence (影响) on the culture of mythology (神话学) in the world. It was taken to Japan during the Sui (581-618) and Tang (618-907) dynasties, or much earlier. In Japan, it was popular. People there once saw it as a guidebook for traveling in China. The book’s monsters (怪兽) were also popular.
Shan Hai Jing has inspired many works. Liu Siliang is a teacher at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He said the book inspired the writing of Journey to the West and Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio «聊斋志异». Pop culture works also borrow ideas from the book. Some of the animals in the book even go into movies, such as Zouwu, the star monster in Shan Hai Jing. It has a tiger-body with stripes of five colors. Its tail is longer than its body. It can travel 1,600 kilometers in a day. We can see it in the popular movie Fantastic Beasts in 2021.

A. To answer some questions. B. To give some examples.
C. To interest the readers. D. To make a conclusion.
33. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 2?
A. The encyclopedia. B. The mythology. C. Shan Hai Jing. D. The monsters.

B. People were afraid of the monsters in the book.
C. It was too difficult for people to understand.

“The Dragon Boat Festival helps us remember our history and traditions,” said 78-year-old Grandma Liu, who has been making zongzi for over 60 years. “Passing these traditions to the younger generation is very important.”
