Basic facts: Appearance Weight Wingspan (翼展) Lifespan Region Habitat Breeding(繁殖)Season Red face and claws; White body (turning grey in breeding season) 1.4 — 1.8kg 120 — 140cm 26 — 36 years China, Korea, Japan Forest Wetland February — June Population threats: Its global population dropped rapidly in the 1960s due to environmental changes and human activity. In the early 1980s, the crested ibis was listed as endangered. Scientists thought the chances of bringing back the bird were not great. Finally, in May 1981, a farmer in Yangxian County, Shaanxi, China said he had seen the bird and led the group to find the last seven crested ibises in the county. Population growth: Shortly after this exciting rediscovery, a special group was set up by the local forestry department to protect the bird. Hunting, logging, and land clearing near their habitats were all forbidden. From 1993 to 2003, 13 protected areas were built. The success of captive breeding and wild set-free programs enabled the family of the crested ibis to grow. According to the Yangxian government, the efforts to protect the species have brought both ecological and economic benefits. The city has seen a significant improvement in biodiversity, with the number of wildlife species increasing from 618 in 2020 to 684 today. Yangxian has also experienced a notable growth in its organic food industry, whose annual output value reaches 5.5 billion yuan. 1. Which of the following is a typical feature of the crested ibis? A. It is widespread globally. B. It averages over 2 kg in weight. C. It prefers dry surroundings. D. It changes color in breeding season. 2. How much did the crested ibis population grow from 2020 to 2023? A. About 4,000. B. About 6,000. C. About 10,000. D. About 14,000. 3. What can we learn from Yangxian’s crested ibis protection? A. It has created a win-win outcome. B. It draws attention to food safety. C. It has put biodiversity under threat. D. It bears no relation to individuals. B Last year, I signed up for a running club to become a shoe tester. The first day I arrived there, I was greeted by a pair of shoes in bright pink, which showed my first task. Oh, my, what am I getting myself into? Uneasy, I stood there, hesitating to try them on. For as long as I can remember, I’ve not been a fan of the spotlight, which comes from anxiety about my body. When I started running in high school, runners were known for their mountains of muscle mass. Me? I was skinny and bony. Embarrassed by my body, I would find the least crowded trails (小径), hiding myself from as many eyes as possible. This tendency to shy away from others continued beyond high school and remains even to this day. So when I first saw the pink shoes, I was hit with a rush of doubt. How silly I would look running along in such eye-catching shoes! But I didn’t want to let my coworkers down. I took to the unpopulated trails, where I still received a few comments — some good, some bad. Easily the most memorable moment was when an oncoming cyclist, right as he passed me, made what seemed to be intended as a mean comment. It was so unexpected and unpleasant that, after a brief moment of surprise, I simply laughed it off and moved on. I had been afraid of attracting attention for so long — and now that it happened, I was completely fine. I was able to disregard unfavourable judgments with ease. Since then, anytime I felt discomfort from any kind of anxiety coming up, I thought back to that moment with the cyclist and how easily I was able to put his comments behind me. As I learned to be comfortable with uncomfortable thoughts, I began feeling better — not because my imperfections are gone, but because what someone looks like on the run shouldn’t matter. 4. What made the author uneasy in the first paragraph? A. Settling into a new club. B. Trying out for a running event. C. Testing a pair of flashy shoes. D. Performing under the spotlight. 5. Why did the author choose the unpopulated trails? A. To guide his coworkers. B. To escape attention from others. C. To take a shortcut to win. D. To avoid coming across cyclists. 6. How did the author feel eventually after hearing the unkind comment from a cyclist? A. Regretful. B. Confused. C. Relieved. D. Inspired. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Sport Is a Solution for All Troubles B. Imperfection Holds its Own Beauty C. A Club Transformed My Life Course D. The Pink Shoes Silenced My Inner Anxiety C Think about the last time someone started talking about something you found boring — maybe their workout routine, personal hobbies, or the details of their travel plans. You probably assumed the conversation was awkward or simply not worth the effort. But was it really so? Is there a “boredom bias (偏见)”? To better understand how people actually feel when they take part in “boring conversations”, a research team led by Elizabeth Trinn conducted an experiment with a total of 1,800 participants. In the experiment, participants at a university lab rated their interest in 10 conversation topics, which included nonfiction books, math, cats, and vegan diets. Pairs were set up where both people found the topic boring. Before a five-minute conversation, each person predicted how interesting and enjoyable it would be. Afterward, they reported their actual experience. The pattern was clear. When people thought a topic to be boring, they predicted low enjoyment. But after the conversation, they reported enjoying it significantly more than expected. The authors explain this mismatch by highlighting that conversations concern much more than just the topic itself. Before a conversation begins, the topic is the easiest thing to judge. But once people start talking, the very act of conversing with another human becomes more important. Put simply, it’s not the topic itself that determines enjoyment, but the communicative and lively part of having a real conversation. “People are social creatures by nature. Being present, feeling heard, and responding to each other can make even a common topic meaningful,” Trinn says. Conversations are a key way people build relationships and experience moments of enjoyment in daily life. Avoiding conversations based on inaccurate (不准确的) expectations can mean missing opportunities for a support network. Trinn recommends keeping an open mind when it comes to future conversations. “If we avoid talking to someone because we assume it will be boring, we may fail to hold onto small moments of connection that could lift our spirits and promote a sense of belonging,” she says. 8. Why did Trinn’s team conduct the research? A. To study how to sharpen communication skills. B. To explain why people increasingly feel bored. C. To determine what makes the daily conversations boring. D. To examine whether we misjudged “boring conversations”. 9. What is the process of the experiment? A. Rating → Pairing → Predicting → Conversing → Reporting. B. Rating → Pairing → Conversing → Predicting → Reporting. C. Pairing → Rating → Conversing → Predicting → Reporting. D. Pairing → Rating → Predicting → Conversing → Reporting. 10. What really makes conversations enjoyable? A. Prediction. B. Interaction. C. The topic. D. The partner. 11. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Unnecessary conversations should be avoided. B. Communication contributes to character building. C. Seemingly boring talks can have surprising benefits. D. Boring conversations matter more than meaningful ones. D It’s a nice warm Saturday. The window is open, and you are enjoying the fresh air to your heart’s content. But within minutes, sometimes seconds, the mental list begins: The garden needs sorting. The kitchen needs reorganizing... Finally you may start that thing you’ve been putting off. Nowadays we have become, without noticing, extraordinarily good at accounting for how we spend time. Hobbies have become side hustles (副业), walks have become step counts, reading has become self-development, even rest has got a respectable name — restoration. We believe we should always be achieving or productive and feel regretful if we stop or rest. We are overly concerned about usefulness. Dr Poerio, a professor of psychology, thinks being stuck with usefulness has its dangers — we possibly lose appreciation of the cognitive (认知的) and emotional benefits of the activities in and of themselves. In fact, when you set your mind free, your brain does not power down. It powers up, just differently. When the noises of outside world are cleared, memory and imagination fill the space instead. This is where creativity lives, where meaning gets made, and where the brain processes everything that has happened to it. The problem is that we rarely give the brain the quiet it needs to reach this state. We’re hungry for quiet time with nothing to do. However, as soon as we have that time, our minds often immediately start trying to find things to do. “In trying to get as much value from our time as possible, we hollow out the very thing that made it valuable,” Poerio says worriedly. What breaks this cycle is not scheduled rest but something truly aimless. Not relaxation as a goal, but the accidental by-product of simply not trying. That warm Saturday morning will come around again. And this time, perhaps, you might try doing nothing in particular. The brain, given the chance, knows exactly what to do. It doesn’t need another goal. It needs a little time with nothing asked of it at all. 12. What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph? A. The calm before a storm. B. The post-weekend anxiety. C. A restless mind on a day off. D. A typical relaxed weekend. 13. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. The usefulness trap. B. The moral dilemma. C. Daily behavioral guidelines. D. Time management tips. 14. Which can best replace the underlined phrase “hollow out” in paragraph 3? A. Make use of. B. Miss out on. C. Pick up. D. Focus on. 15. What would the author probably suggest? A. Taking rest as it is. B. Aiming for the highest. C. Racing against time. D. Exercising to the extreme. In today’s digital age, social media has become a significant part of daily life for billions of people. It’s generally assumed that social media helps you stay connected with friends and thus build a sense of belonging. ____16____ Using social media isn’t likely to strengthen your friendships and could even make you lonelier. Researchers surveyed over 1,500 American adults. The results indicated that social media connections with those they hadn’t ever met in person actually made people lonelier. ____17____ The truth is, when it comes to fighting loneliness, online connections — whether with strangers or with real-life friends — are unlikely to count. Escaping this loneliness trap starts with offline connections. Maintaining your existing friendships in person is a good start, but establishing new ones is equally important. Greenberg, a clinical psychologist, suggests going to a book club, taking a fitness class, or volunteering for a cause you care about. ____18____ After all, shared interests make people far more eager to connect face to face. Make friendship-building something close to home, Greenberg added, since you have a better chance of striking up friendships with people who live nearby. So keep your activities local so that you don’t need to go across town to meet new people. ____19____ And that’s how friendships naturally develop. Always keep in mind that online connections are no replacement for face-to-face contact in strengthening ties and fighting loneliness. A text message or a like on social media will never mean as much as a real laugh shared with a friend in person. ____20____ A. The benefits of social media go beyond that. B. A recent study, though, suggests otherwise. C. This way, you actively step into circles of like-minded people. D. Invite them for a coffee, take a walk together, or just sit and talk. E. Plus connecting with real-life friends on social media didn’t make people less lonely. F. Staying close to home also means that you will run into the same faces regularly. G. So put down your phone, step out and let two people, not screens, do the talking. Eliz Sandalls, a woman in England, has reached a heartwarming milestone after completing her 100th handmade blanket (毯子) for newborn babies. Impatient by nature, Meera always shouted before listening whenever things didn’t go her way, while Mayur was careless and too proud to admit his mistakes. Though they loved each other very much, quarrels (争吵) were as common as a morning tea in their household. One evening, after returning from school, Mayur asked their mother if there were any chocolate cookies left. “Only two cookies are left,” mom said. “One for each of you.” Meera had gone out to play, so Mayur ate his cookie alone. He soon finished eating but he was in such a hurry that he forgot to put the lid (盖子) back on and went to do his homework. Later that evening, Meera went to the kitchen to get her cookie, only to find the jar empty, with only some crumbs (饼干屑) lying around it. Anger welled up inside her immediately. Without a second thought, she shouted at her brother, blaming (责备) him for eating her cookie. Faced with the sudden and groundless blame, Mayur insisted he hadn’t and explained that he went straight to study after eating his share, his face burning at being wronged. But Meera wouldn’t listen, and soon their voices rose. Mom had to step in. “You both claim you didn’t eat the last cookie, right?” They nodded, yet neither stopped blaming the other. Mom cleared her throat and stopped them. “Then who did it? Can you two work together and solve the case (案件)?” They examined the kitchen, trying to find clues. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mom smiled, “Do you think the mouse is the only cause of today’s quarrel?” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025—2026学年度第二学期质量检测 高一英语试题 注意事项: 1. 1. The Pink Shoes Silenced My Inner Anxiety 【答案】4. C 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段“The first day I arrived there, I was greeted by a pair of shoes in bright pink, which showed my first task. Oh, my, what am I getting myself into? Uneasy, I stood there, hesitating to try them on.(我到达那里的第一天,迎接我的是一双亮粉色的鞋子,它们表明了我要完成的第一个任务。天啊,我这是要干什么?我忐忑不安地站在那里,犹豫着要不要穿上它们。)”可知,要测试一双亮粉色的鞋子让作者感到不安。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“How silly I would look running along in such eye-catching shoes!(穿着这么扎眼的鞋子跑来跑去,我该有多傻啊!)”和第三段“But I didn’t want to let my coworkers down.(但我也不想让我的同事们失望。)” 根据第三段“It was so unexpected and unpleasant that, after a brief moment of surprise, I simply laughed it off and moved on. I had been afraid of attracting attention for so long — and now that it happened, I was completely fine. I was able to disregard unfavourable judgments with ease.(这如此出人意料且令人不快,短暂的惊讶之后,我只是笑笑就过去了。我长久以来都害怕引人注目——如今真的发生了,我却完全没事。我能轻松地无视那些不利的评价。)”可知,在听到一个骑行者不友好的评论后,作者能够一笑了之,轻松无视它,最终感到了释然。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“The first day I arrived there, I was greeted by a pair of shoes in bright pink, which showed my first task. Oh, my, what am I getting myself into? Uneasy, I stood there, hesitating to try them on.(我到达那里的第一天,迎接我的是一双亮粉色的鞋子,它们表明了我要完成的第一个任务。天啊,我这是要干什么?我忐忑不安地站在那里,犹豫着要不要穿上它们。)”和最后一段“As I learned to be comfortable with uncomfortable thoughts, I began feeling better — not because my imperfections are gone, but because what someone looks like on the run shouldn’t matter.(当我学会与不适的想法自在共处时,我开始感觉好多了——并非因为我的缺陷消失了,而是因为一个人跑步时的模样本就不该重要。)” C Think about the last time someone started talking about something you found boring — maybe their workout routine, personal hobbies, or the details of their travel plans. D 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段“You probably assumed the conversation was awkward or simply not worth the effort. But was it really so? Is there a “boredom bias (偏见)”? To better understand how people actually feel when they take part in “boring conversations”, a research team led by Elizabeth Trinn conducted an experiment with a total of 1,800 participants.(你可能以为对话很尴尬或根本不值得费心。但果真如此吗?是否存在一种“无聊偏见”?为了更好地了解人们参与“无聊对话”时的真实感受,由伊丽莎白·特林领导的研究团队对共计1800名参与者开展了一项实验。)”可知,特林团队组织研究是为了检验我们是否误判了“无聊对话”。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“In the experiment, participants at a university lab rated their interest in 10 conversation topics, which included nonfiction books, math, cats, and vegan diets. Pairs were set up where both people found the topic boring. Before a five-minute conversation, each person predicted how interesting and enjoyable it would be. Afterward, they reported their actual experience. The pattern was clear. When people thought a topic to be boring, they predicted low enjoyment. But after the conversation, they reported enjoying it significantly more than expected.(实验中,大学实验室的参与者对10个谈话话题的兴趣程度进行了评分,这些话题包括非虚构类书籍、数学、猫和纯素食饮食。研究人员将认为话题无聊的两人配对。在五分钟谈话开始前,每人预测谈话的有趣度和愉悦度;结束后报告实际体验。模式很清晰:当人们认为话题无聊时,他们预测的愉悦度较低。但谈话结束后,他们报告的享受程度明显高于预期。)”及其关键词可知,实验的过程应该是Rating评分→ Pairing配对 → Predicting预测 → Conversing对话→ Reporting报告。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Being present, feeling heard, and responding to each other can make even a common topic meaningful(专注当下、感到被倾听并相互回应,即便再普通的话题也能变得有意义。)” 根据最后一段“If we avoid talking to someone because we assume it will be boring, we may fail to hold onto small moments of connection that could lift our spirits and promote a sense of belonging(如果我们因为觉得无聊而避免与某人交谈,就可能错过那些能振奋精神、增进归属感的细微情感连接时刻。)” D It’s a nice warm Saturday. C 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第二段“ We believe we should always be achieving or productive and feel regretful if we stop or rest.We are overly concerned about usefulness. 根据第三段“In trying to get as much value from our time as possible, we hollow out the very thing that made it valuable (我们拼命榨干时间的价值,反而 ________ 时间原本珍贵的内核)”可知,一味功利地利用时间,会丢失、错失放空带来的真正价值,划线短语hollow out和“Miss out on(错失)”含义相近。 根据最后一段“What breaks this cycle is not scheduled rest but something truly aimless. (打破功利循环的不是规划好的休息,而是毫无目的的放空)”以及“The brain, given the chance, knows exactly what to do. It doesn’t need another goal. It needs a little time with nothing asked of it at all. 16. B 17. E 18. C 19. F 20. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mom smiled, “Do you think the mouse is the only cause of today’s quarrel?” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 They examined the kitchen, trying to find clues. They noticed the cookie jar lid lying loosely beside the jar and tiny mouse footprints near the crumbs. Following the tracks, they spotted a small mouse hiding behind the cupboard with a piece of cookie in its mouth. Realizing neither of them had eaten the second cookie, Meera felt ashamed of losing her temper without listening. Mayur also regretted not covering the jar tightly, which let the mouse sneak in. They apologized to each other softly. Mom smiled, “Do you think the mouse is the only cause of today’s quarrel?” Both kids shook their heads. Meera admitted she always shouted first instead of calming down to ask for explanations. Mayur said he was too stubborn to explain patiently when misunderstood. Mom told them family members should communicate politely and trust each other. From then on, the two siblings learned to stay calm and talk things through before arguing. 词类激活: 行为类: ① 意识到:realize/be aware of ②看见:spot/see/catch sight of 情绪类: ①愧疚的:ashamed/guilty ②温和地:softly/tenderly 【点睛】【高分句型1】Following the tracks, they spotted a small mouse hiding behind the cupboard with a piece of cookie in its mouth.
