Hu Miaokun, a 19-year-old born with congenital (先天的) deafness, received acceptance letters from seven universities this summer — a milestone marking over a decade of determination in a silent world. Born in 2005 in a village in Macheng, Hubei province, he lost his father at five and was raised by his grandparents after his mother remarried. Despite these hardships, his passion for learning never faded. With family support, he enrolled in a school for hearing-impaired children.
Beyond academics, Hu has loved painting since childhood as a way to express himself. His aunt Hu Qiaoxia has been his unwavering supporter since his elementary school teacher first noticed his artistic talent. Though concerned about the costs, she decided to provide him with materials and educational opportunities, seeing art as a gateway to new possibilities. Moved by her support, Hu dedicated himself to improving his skills steadily.
After middle school, Hu attended a specialized high school in Wuhan, where he faced the challenge of learning English without any prior exposure while his peers had basic knowledge through songs and movies. “Reading, writing, and translation are my keys to learning English,” he signed. He created a strict study plan and managed his time carefully alongside his artistic pursuits.
In 2024, Hu took the specialized gaokao for hearing-impaired students, traveling nationwide to complete the custom-designed exams. His efforts paid off; since May, he has received acceptance letters from all seven universities he applied to, including Tianjin University of Technology and Beijing Union University. He ultimately chose product design at Tianjin University of Technology, his dream school, and is now focusing on mastering 3D modeling software like 3ds Max to become a 3D designer. “I’m deeply thankful to my aunt and everyone who supported me,” he signed. “I will use my skills to inspire and assist others in the future.”
4. What assisted Hu Miaokun’s learning at his first school?
A. Daily tutoring done by his grandparents at home. B. Special tools provided by his teachers at school.
C. Private lessons taught by professional artists. D. Hearing treatments given by local hospitals.
5. What does the underlined word “unwavering” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Continuous. B. Unexpected. C. Unwilling. D. Doubtful.
6. Which qualities does Hu Miaokun have?
A. Generous and sensitive. B. Independent and gentle.
C. Persevering and grateful. D. Brave and open-minded.
7. What is the best title for the text?
A. Road of Success to Painting B. Breaking Through the Silence
C. Family Power in Special Education D. Technology’s Role for Deaf Learners

As African forest elephants make their way through the rainforest and search for food, they do a lot of damage to the surrounding plants. They step on, knock over, and remove leaves and branches off trees. In many people’s eyes, they make a broken mess, which has raised people’s concern that they are harming the rainforest ecosystem and may contribute to global warming.
Actually, the elephants’ eating and destruction help with the climate change. How? As they walk through the forest, they thin out young trees that are competing for space, water, and light. As a result, the larger trees grow better, which have the ability to absorb and store more CO2. Meanwhile, lower forest density (密度) enables grasses to grow. Fallen trees make it possible for more light to reach the ground, benefiting the growth of grasses and a more balanced ecosystem. The enlarged grassland contributes to more carbon capture. According to a 2019 study, each forest elephant unknowingly helps the forest pull carbon out of the air — like taking 2,047 cars off roads a year. African forest elephants act as “climate heroes”, trying to create a healthy ecosystem and slow climate change.
Unfortunately, the number of forest elephants has fallen by more than 86% over 31 years, and their living area is now only a quarter of their original size. According to the wildlife scientist Fiona Maisels, between 2010 and 2020, elephants were lost at the rate of 60 a day, or about one every 20 minutes.
Now Ralph Chami, assistant director of the Institute for Capacity Development at the International Monetary Fund, wants to put a better value on forest elephants. Instead of focusing on how much the elephants need us to save them, he thinks we should focus on how much we need them to save us. These four-legged giants aren’t passengers on our planet; they are heroes protecting it.
8. What role do African forest elephants play in paragraph 1?
A. A destroyer of forest ecosystem.
B. A connector of forest food chain.
C. A helper of rainforest’s structure.
D. A contributor to natural protection.
9. What is the effect of elephants’ behaviors on the forest?
A. Better growth of young trees.
B. Larger living space for animals.
C. Higher absorption of carbon.
D. Greater competition among plants.
10. Why does the writer list the numbers in Paragraph 3?
A. To show forest resource loss. B. To stress elephant protection.
C. To prove the value of data collection. D. To show the drop in elephant population.
11. What is Ralph Chami’s attitude towards African forest elephants?
A. Doubtful. B. Admiring. C. Uncaring. D. Worried.
D
As China’s largest grain-producing province, Heilongjiang will further strengthen its position as China’s “granary” (粮仓) from 2026 to 2030 by increasing grain yield (产量), protecting black soil and advancing agricultural modernization, Governor Liang Huiling said on Thursday.
Heilongjiang has led the country in grain production for 16 years in a row. Its grain yield in 2025 was more than 82 million tons, taking up about one-ninth of the national total. Home to the world’s largest black soil belt, it ranks first in the planting area and yield of rice, corn and soybeans. The province protects black soil by building high-standard farmland and repairing damaged fields, and will improve the quality of over 90 percent of its permanent basic farmland in the new period.
Liang stressed that technology, especially artificial intelligence (AI), is central to agricultural modernization. “We seek efficiency, yield and quality through technology,” she said. The province will adopt AI more widely in farming, build large-scale smart farms, and use intelligent machinery such as smart farm robots and unmanned rice planting machines. It also plans to raise grain production by 10 million tons through better farmland, quality seeds, advanced machinery, modern technologies and supportive policies.
The modernization push is already visible in the farms of Beidahuang Group. At Qixing Farm, farmer Qin Yuqiu recently used wide-narrow row planting machines to complete rice transplanting across his 23 hectares. Guided by the Beidou system, these machines automatically follow planned routes exactly, adjusting the space between rows to let in more fresh air and sunlight and help crops grow. The group now operates 19,000 units of unmanned and assisted farm machines. “We are confident that grain yield per unit area will increase by more than 0.5 percent this year,” said a farm manager.
12. How is black soil in Heilongjiang protected?
A. Cut grain yield and protect better soil.
B. Build good farmland and repair soil.
C. Replace black soil with foreign soil.
D. Reduce rice planting for soil nutrients.
13. Which is the best summary for Paragraph 3?
A. AI’s history of farming.
B. Global farm cooperation.
C. AI problems of farming.
D. Tech-assisted farming plan.
14. What can we infer about Beidou-guided machines?
A. They shorten farmers’ working hours.
B. They help raise farming quality.
C. They are only used for rice planting.
D. They are the key to China’s grain growth.
15. What does “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Heilongjiang B. soil belt C. total output D. planting area

It was a bright Saturday morning, with golden sunlight dancing on the calm blue waters off Florida’s coast. 14-year-old Mia sat beside her father in their small fishing boat, the salty breeze brushing her hair as they waited for a bite. After about an hour, Mia suddenly froze — something unusual caught her eye near the shore: a dolphin struggling, its gray body tangled tightly in an abandoned fishing net, rope cutting into its smooth skin.
“Dad, look!” Mia pointed frantically, her voice trembling. The dolphin flapped its tail weakly, splashing water, and let out a pitiful cry. Its sleek body was trapped, and every desperate attempt to free itself only tightened the knots around its fins and torso.
Her father, a seasoned marine biologist, tensed up, recognizing the danger. “If we don’t help soon, she’ll drown,” he said firmly, steering the boat closer. “Be careful — scared dolphins lash out; their tails can hurt us.”
Mia nodded, her heart racing. She’d grown up around dolphins, watching her father study them, but never this close to one in pain. The dolphin’s dark, intelligent eyes locked onto hers — fear and helplessness in them, as if it knew they were its only hope. “What do we do?” Mia asked, pulling off her shoes, ready to help.

A. Doubtful. B. Admiring. C. Uncaring. D. Worried.

【答案】12. B 13. D 14. B 15. A

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Her father handed her a pair of thick gloves and a knife. “Cut the ropes carefully, Mia. Don’t pull — the knots will only get tighter.” Mia took a deep breath and slipped into the shallow water. The dolphin tensed as she approached, its body trembling. “Shh, it’s okay,” Mia whispered, reaching out slowly. She began cutting through the tangled net, one strand at a time. The dolphin remained surprisingly still, as if sensing that the girl was trying to help. After what felt like an hour — but was probably only ten minutes — the last major knot came loose.
The moment the last rope fell away, the dolphin let out a sound — a happy, high-pitched scream. It wasn’t a cry of pain, but of release. Mia stepped back, watching as the dolphin circled once, twice, then paused to look directly at her. Then, with a powerful leap, the dolphin arced through the air and disappeared into the deeper water. But it didn’t go far. For the next hour, the dolphin swam alongside their boat, surfacing every few minutes as if to check on them. “She’s thanking us,” her father said, smiling. Mia waved at the dolphin, tears streaming down her cheeks. That day, she learned that one small act of kindness can create a bond that crosses the boundaries between our worlds.
