B I was a junior professor, stressed and working myself to exhaustion both at work and at home. Believed that success in academic required to give my all.My devotion brought me achievements in publications, and a university position. But I was still exhausted and upset by feelings of not being good enough when I compared myself with coworkers who were more productive and fathers who seemed to be better with their kids. The turning point came a few years later during a conversation with a good friend. When I told him about my struggles,he questioned me whether doing better meant that I was not doing a good job. That helped me see that, apart from the occasional misstep,I was doing well at my job and that my children were growing up in a loving home.I realized that what needed to change was not my work but my mentality. I reflected on how I wanted to behave as a scientist and a teacher. Was this career about accumulating the largest number of publications? Did I want to be a teacher who was just absorbed in his world? The answer to both questions was negative. The process of transformation didn't unfold as smoothly as expected, particularly when it came to overcoming negative thoughts, which required a significant amount of time.Nonetheless, the positive changes I made proved to be highly beneficial.I've also summarized three specific points that enable me to realize my intentions while also furthering my research and career, building personal connection, sharing ideas freely and being a reliable and fun operator.I've seen how working with co-workers,with whom I have a personal connection unlocks creativity and drives progress.Such connections don't form overnight, but when I take the time to strengthen them by sharing news and personal conversations,I know the time is well spent. My productivity hasn't suffered;if anything,my research has benefited from increased activity and engagement. 41.Why did the author feel tired and stressed? A.Because he was dissatisfied with himself. B.Because he couldn't gain others' recognition. C.Because he had tense relationships with his partners. D.Because he failed to balance his career and home life. 42.What did the author realize during the conversation with his good friend? A.He was not doing well in his job. B.He needed to work even harder to succeed. C.He was actually doing fine in both work and family. D.He should focus more on his children's education. 43.How did the author find his transforming process? A.Boring but effective. B.Challenging but rewarding. C. Smooth and inspiring. D.Interesting and meaningful 44.What message does the author intend to convey in the last paragraph? A.Connections can be easy to form. B.Work habits determine productivity. C.Independent thinking is the key to success. D.Meaningful relationships contribute to careers. 45.What is the main idea of the passage? A.Hard work and devotion are the keys to academic success. B.Comparing oneself with others can lead to personal growth. C.Changing one's mindset and building connections improve both life and career. D.Productivity suffers when people spend too much time on personal relationships. C At a time when Americans consume more than half of their daily calories from ultra-processed ( 超加工的)foods, there is increasing evidence showing that eating too much of these foods can make us sick.A recent study published in the British Medical Journal finds people who consume high amounts of these foods have an increased risk of anxiety, depression, and certain cancers. The data come from more than 9 million people who participated in dozens of studies. UItra-processed foods are ubiquitous in our food supply.Among the most common are highly refined breads, fast food, sugary drinks, cookies, and other packaged snacks. They are often high in salt, sugar, fat and calories and low in fiber and micro-nutrients such as vitamins. Although no evidence proves that consumption of ultra-processed foods can directly cause anxiety, cancer or other health conditions,a growing body of evidence shows that ultra-processed foods contribute to the development of these conditions. A study published last year found people in the habit of consuming high levels of ultra-processed foods were about three times more likely to develop cancer, compared to those who consumed the least. When it comes to mood and mental health conditions,a French study showed that adults who maintained an unhealthy diet had more depressive symptoms."We saw a roughly 20 to 50%increased risk of depressive symptoms in people who had diets that were high in ultra-processed foods,"says Wolfgang Marx,a researcher. A panel of advisors is currently evaluating all the latest diet and nutrition studies as part of a process to update the country's Dietary Guidelines. It is possible that they could recommend limits on ultra-processed foods. On the regulatory side, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is moving ahead to finalize a new definition of the term“healthy”. The FDA says a “healthy” claim on food labels could help consumers identify healthier choices with a quick look and may encourage food companies to improve their products. 46.What does the underlined word“ubiquitous”in paragraph 2 probably mean? A.Nutritious. B.Cheap. C.Widespread. D.Profitable. 47.What can be inferred from about ultra-processed foods? A.They are difficult to find in ordinary grocery stores. B.They are characterized by low nutritional density. C.They are primarily consumed by health-conscious individuals. D.They are often marketed as organic and natural products. 48.What did the study published last year find regarding ultra-processed foods? A.They improve emotional stability. B.They cause health decline. C.They trigger immediate reactions. D.They lower nutritional value. 49.What is the last paragraph mainly about? A.Future plans from food companies. B.New guidelines for food sales. C.Limits on ultra-processed foods. D.Responses to ultra-processed foods. 50.Where is the text most probably taken from? A.A health magazine. B.A biology report. C.A hospital leaflet. D.A food advertisement. D Some people worry that there's too much technology in our lives. And they may have a point, given how countless people now carry the internet around in their pocket and use it as a primary form of communication. It's practically difficult to shun technology in our world. There are computer microchips ( 微芯片) in our watches, our cars, light switches, even our pets!Where will it end? Well,if certain people have their way,it'll go even further. We'll have microchips implanted (植入)into our brains that can interact with the computers by thought alone. It may sound like something from the science fiction, but in many ways, things look quite promising. Thanks to the ability to send and receive information remotely via computers, microchips and other related devices have long been put into brains. For example, electrodes have been implanted in the brains of epilepsy patients to better record and even predict the abnormal neurological activity.Similarly,deep-brain stimulation, through implanted devices that cause activity in key brain regions,is an established treatment for things like Parkinson's disease, and is even being looked into for illnesses like depression. However,it's another thing to place such devices in healthy individuals. There are the practical concerns, not least of which is what these chips will be made of.The inside of the brain is a mass of highly reactive chemicals and electrical activity.Implants would need to be inert ( 静止的)enough to not upset the delicate processes by their presence, but also sensitive enough to read and process the activity around them.Current technology has made impressive progress with this, but if it were to be rolled out to millions of people, we'd need to be 100 per cent certain that it's safe. How many people will actually want to have technology literally put into their brain? A surprising 60 per cent of Americans say they'd be okay with it,but that's when it's purely theoretical. In reality, the possibility of having strangers stick chips in your brain is likely to prove unattractive, especially for a population where millions get mad at fictional microchips in vaccines(疫苗),and even more are frightened of dentists. Ultimately, the technology of computer-brain interface(接口)implants is still far away from us. 51.What's the function of the first paragraph? A.A summary of the article. B.An introduction to the main topic. C.An overview of the whole article. D.An argument over the main topic 52.What does the author want to tell us by the examples in paragraph 3? A.The process of human-computer interaction. B.The possible treatment for particular diseases. C.The future of microchips and devices alike. D.The existing application of microchip implants. 53.What technical requirement must brain implants meet according to paragraph 4? A.They must be made of materials that dissolve over time. B.They need to be both chemically inactive and electrically responsive. C.They should only record brain activity without processing it. D.They must be able to power themselves using brain chemicals. 54.How may most Americans react to implanting chips in the brain in reality? A.They may reject it. B.They may expect it. C.They may adjust to it. D.They may feel curious about it. 55.Which word can best describe the technology of computer-brain interface implants? A.Imaginary. B.Practical. C.Unfulfilled. D.Impossible. 第Ⅱ卷(满分35分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5个小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 Samantha,my childhood playmate living in Florida, had to deal with some complex problems in her life. Her mother recognized the difficulty she was having and understood that things would be much better if I could come and visit and spend a couple of days helping her sort things out.So her mother purchased the tickets for me to fly down and see her.
