15 Unit 3 The art of painting Vienna may be one of Europe's smallest capitals, but it's rich with culture. One day of museumhopping can take you from a former palace housing one of the world's most significant artworks to the contemporary art galleries of the MuseumsQuartier. Kunsthistorisches Museum Although the museum is excellent, it is rarely overcrowded with visitors. If you visit at the right time, you can still be alone with Caravaggio. You can have a little dialogue with some of the biggest masterpieces. You can also take part in the museum's mystery hunt-an adult treasure hunt through the EgyptianOriental collection. Wien Museum The first generation of the Wien Museum (or Vienna Museum) was an exhibition at Vienna City Hall in the late 19th century. The exhibition stayed there for over 70 years until the main building as it stands today was established in 1959 at Karlsplatz. Since then, the museum has rapidly spread to 22 locations around the city, including a clock museum and the apartments of Beethoven, Mozart and Haydn. Entry to the Wien Museum's many locations is free for teenagers and children, and for all on the first Sunday of each month. Belvedere Museum The Belvedere Museum is spread across several buildings, including two Baroque summer palaces that were built in the early 18th century. Between them are wide, landscaped gardens where visitors can jog, bike and simply wander. The entire complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that also happens to be home to one of the most famous paintings in the world: The Kiss by Gustav Klimt. ZOOM Children's Museum The museum is located in the MuseumsQuartier.ZOOM includes an oceanthemed room for kids to play in, with a water mattress, colourful objects and a tunnel of mirrors; a studio where they can play with art supplies that would create a terrifying mess for their parents at home; and a room where little guests can make animated films and sounds. 1.What do we know about the Kunsthistorisches Museum? A.It was built in the late 19th century. B.It is free for teenagers and children. C.It is not always flooded with visitors. D.It is near Vienna City Hall. 2.Which of the following stores the famous painting The Kiss? A.The Kunsthistorisches Museum. B.The Wien Museum. C.The Belvedere Museum. D.The ZOOM Children's Museum. 3.What is the feature of the ZOOM Children's Museum? A.It offers some museum hunts. B.It stores some famous paintings. C.It allows visitors to jog and bike. D.It offers kids entertainment programs. 根据文章第二段“Although the museum is excellent, it is rarely overcrowded with visitors.(尽管这个博物馆非常出色,但它很少有游客过多的时候。)” 根据文章第四段“The entire complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that also happens to be home to one of the most famous paintings in the world: The Kiss by Gustav Klimt.(整个建筑群是联合国教科文组织的世界遗产,也恰好是世界上最著名的画作之一:克林姆特的《吻》的所在地。)” 根据文章第五段“ZOOM includes an oceanthemed room for kids to play in, with a water mattress, colourful objects and a tunnel of mirrors; a studio where they can play with art supplies that would create a terrifying mess for their parents at home; and a room where little guests can make animated films and sounds.(ZOOM包括一个海洋主题的儿童游戏室,里面有水床、彩色物品和镜子隧道;一个他们可以玩艺术用品的工作室,这些用品在家里会给他们的父母带来恐怖的混乱;以及一个小客人可以制作动画电影和声音的房间。)” Students at an elementary school in California, with the help of their art teacher, created a telephone hotline that people can call to get cheerful advice from kids during difficult times. In just days, the hotline began getting thousands of calls an hour. Jessica Martin, who teaches art at West Side School in Healdsburg, California, thought her students just might have the magic words needed to bring calmness to people in these difficult times. “To hear the pure joy from kids is extremely comforting,” she says. Ms. Martin, along with artist Asherah Weiss, worked with students at West Side on a project they called “PepToc”. Actually, they called it “Pep Talk” first. But when Ms. Martin's 6yearold son drew an advertisement for the hotline and spelled it “PepToc”, they decided they liked that even better. The project had two parts-one was the hotline, and the other was creating encouraging posters. The hotline is available in English and Spanish. It offers the happy voices of children of different ages sharing positive messages. For example, by pressing 3, you can hear a group of kindergartners saying together, “You can do it! Keep trying and don't give up!” Pressing 4 triggers the sounds of children giggling and laughing-a sound certain to bring a smile to anyone's face. Pressing 1 brings up ideas for people who are “feeling mad, frustrated, or nervous”. Helpful suggestions include: “punch your pillow”, or “go get a cookie”. Pressing 2 results in “words of encouragement and life advice”. This includes messages like: “The world is a better place with you in it.” And “You are okay!” Other students took part in making encouraging posters, which were hung up around the town. Many posters had strips of paper that people passing by could tear off and take with them. For example, one poster said “If you are mad, think of positive thoughts”, and had tearoff strips reminding people to “Be happy”. 4.What do we know about the PepToc project? A.The project has not started yet. B.It got its present name by accident. C.Its hotline only provides English service. D.Jessica Martin will answer the hotline calls. 5.You can press ______ to hear kids' laughter when calling the hotline. A.1 B.2 C.3 D.4 6.What can passersby do with the posters? A.They can add their comments to the posters. B.They can take away the poster's strips. C.They can take photos for posters for free. D.They can redesign the posters. 7.Who is the hotline possibly targeted at? A.Newborn babies. B.Relaxed vacationer. C.Experienced advice providers. D.Mentally stressed adults. 根据第三段中“But when Ms. Martin's 6yearold son drew an advertisement for the hotline and spelled it ‘PepToc’, they decided they liked that even better.(但当马丁女士6岁的儿子为热线画了一则广告并拼写为‘PepToc’时,他们觉得这个名称更好。)” 根据第五段中“Pressing 4 triggers the sounds of children giggling and laughing-a sound certain to bring a smile to anyone's face.(按下数字4会引发孩子们咯咯笑和大笑的声音——这种声音肯定能让任何人的脸上绽放笑容。)” 根据最后一段中“Many posters had strips of paper that people passing by could tear off and take with them.(许多海报上都有纸条,路过的人可以撕下来带走。)” 根据第一段中“Students at an elementary school in California, with the help of their art teacher, created a telephone hotline that people can call to get cheerful advice from kids during difficult times.”及第二段中“Jessica Martin, who teaches art at West Side School in Healdsburg, California, thought her students just might have the magic words needed to bring calmness to people in these difficult times.”及第五段中“It offers the happy voices of children of different ages sharing positive messages.(它提供了不同年龄的孩子们分享积极信息的快乐声音。)” When it comes to debates over the Mona Lisa, most people tend to fall into conversation over whether the subject is pretending a smile. __1__— whether the painting shows an image of a woman who has eyebrows (眉毛), as her forehead seems strangely free of follicles (毛囊). The answer? Perhaps. But not anymore.__2__.It was most stylish for women in l6thcentury Italy to pull out or shave their eyebrows. It's within reason that Lisa Gherardini, who is the suspected model for the painting, may have been lacking in eyebrows for that reason. In 2007, a French photographer and engineer named Pascal Cotte cast doubt on that idea.Using an advanced camera capable of capturing images of high quality, Cotte claimed he was able to visualize a faint eyebrow hair on her face.__3__. If Cotte's observation is correct, why only one hair? It's possible, Cotte said, that Da Vinci painted a glaze (釉) over most of the piece and then added further detail on top of it.__4__.The restoration work applied to the painting over time may have accidentally erased her follicular features.Based on his analysis, Cotte visualized other layers of the painting.Da Vinci moved the two left fingers of his subject and had originally made her smile wider, according to the photographer. Cotte's photos allow observers to make their own judgment about whether Mona Lisa's eyebrows were pulled out.__5__. A.A more careful analysis might raise another argument B.No one will deny it's Leonardo Da Vinci's symbolic artwork C.Perhaps Da Vinci had indeed intended to paint his subject with eyebrows D.In painting the work, Da Vinci was likely to be recognizing the fashion trends E.That may have created a situation where the topmost layer was easily damaged F.It's another element that may make the painting appealing for another 500 years G.It can clearly be seen that cracks (裂缝) around the eye have slightly disappeared [语篇解读] 这是一篇说明文。 1.A [空后下文“—whether the painting shows an image of a woman who has eyebrows (眉毛), as her forehead seems strangely free of follicles (毛囊).(——这幅画是否展示了一个有眉毛的女人的形象,因为她的额头似乎奇怪地没有毛囊。)” 2.D [根据空后下文“It was most stylish for women in 16thcentury Italy to pull out or shave their eyebrows.(对于 16 世纪的意大利女性来说,拔眉毛或剃眉毛是最时尚的。)”可知,拔眉毛或者剃眉毛是当时的流行趋势,所以D项中“Da Vinci was likely to be recognizing the fashion trends(达芬奇可能认识到了流行趋势)”,符合上下文逻辑关系。] 3.C [根据空处上文“Using an advanced camera capable of capturing images of high quality, Cotte claimed he was able to visualize a faint eyebrow hair on her face.(使用能够捕捉高质量图像的先进相机,科特声称他能够看到她脸上一根模糊的眉毛。)”可知,科特看到了人物脸上一根模糊的眉毛,C项“Perhaps Da Vinci had indeed intended to paint his subject with eyebrows(也许达芬奇确实打算给他的人物画上眉毛)”可以解释模糊眉毛的由来,符合上下文逻辑关系。] 4.E [空处上文“It's possible, Cotte said, that Da Vinci painted a glaze (釉) over most of the piece and then added further detail on top of it.(科特说,达芬奇有可能在大部分作品上涂上釉,然后在上面添加更多细节。)”提到了在作品表层上釉,E项中“the situation”就指代这种情况;下文“The restoration work applied to the painting over time may have accidentally erased her follicular features.(随着时间的推移,对这幅画进行的修复工作可能不小心抹去了她的毛囊特征。)” 5.F [根据空处上文“Cotte's photos allow observers to make their own judgment about whether Mona Lisa's eyebrows were pulled out.(科特的照片让观察者可以自行判断蒙娜丽莎的眉毛是否被拔掉。)” Dear Mike, ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Yours sincerely, Li Hua [参考范文] Dear_Mike, I'm writing to share with you a painting exhibition held in my school themed “A Harvest Scene” last week and talk about my favorite painting. A number of paintings were displayed for us to admire in the auditorium, among which one painting impressed me greatly. In this painting,a golden wheat field near a river stretches as far as the eye can see.A red sun powers into the sky,and there are people bending to harvest wheat. The colors are warm and intense, with the yellow of the wheat contrasting beautifully with the blue of the sky.Laboring people and breathtaking views make a harmonious harvest scene. It turns to be a truly inspiring event, which leaves me in awe of the natural beauty and in admiration of students' creativity.Isn't it an amazing exhibition? Yours_sincerely, Li_Hua 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
