W:But I want to watch this program first. It is almost over.① Wait a moment, please. (Text 2) M:Please get me a beer, a cold one. You know, I never drink beer without ice. W:But it is winter now.Don't you think that's bad for your stomach? (Text 3) M:These watches for lovers look so beautiful that I'd like to buy a pair. Would you give me a 10% discount off the price?③ W:OK. You know the price is $100 for a man's watch, and $80 for a woman's watch. (Text 4) M:I'm going cycling on Saturday morning.Do you want to come along? W:Thanks, but I've got a lot of cooking to do for the party on Saturday evening.I hope you're still coming. M:Of course I am.I won't miss it.④ (Text 5) M:Excuse me, how much are the tickets, please? W:They are $10 each, but students go half price. M:Two student tickets, please.⑤ Here are our student cards. (Text 6) M:Now which sport do you want to do? W:What is there? M:Well, the volleyball is filled up and we've got basketball and tennis left. W:Last year I played basketball, so this year I want to do something different, tennis, I think.⑥ When can I start? M:Let me see. The next tennis course starts on September 7th. W:I'd like to play once a week. Which day can I come? M:Lessons are on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays. W:Well, on Fridays and Sundays I usually go out with my friends.⑦ (Text 7) W:I see a “Flat for rent” sign outside, so could you show me the flat for rent?⑧ M:Sure. We have a one-room flat on the 2nd floor for 400 yuan a month. W:I'm afraid it's too small for a family of four.⑨ We have two children.Do you have any three-room flat for rent? M:Well, there is a three-room flat on the 8th floor for 1,000 yuan a month.⑩ W:Is there a lift in this building? M:Yes, but it operates from 4:30 in the morning to 11:30 in the evening. Nature is so clever in the way it makes some things rot away to nothing and then creates new life from what is left over. W:But why did you mention it on our walk? We were in the forest at the time. M:I saw some mushrooms growing on a fallen branch.⑮ They help recycle the dead wood, so that more trees and flowers can grow. It's a beautiful system. W:Yes, nature is an expert recycler—and mushrooms can be as beautiful as flowers. Those little yellow ones were unusual—and do you remember the large orange ones? Best of all were the red ones.⑯ M:I could look at things like that all day. The subject really interests me. We'll have to walk there again next Friday. W:Thursday would be better for me. M:I can't make it then. I have booked an appointment at the dentist. What about Saturday? W:It's a date. We'll explore the magic of mushrooms.⑰ (Text 10) M:Dear Cathy, I know that you've had a lot of fun these years—going to picnics and parties, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn't let you have.⑲ But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart.⑱ Seven years ago you came into my world with all your curiosity and smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my business for myself didn't seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness. In the end, my girl, that's why I was so busy for a big career:⑳ because of what I want for you. I want you to go to schools worthy of your potential—schools that challenge you, inspire you, and instill in you a sense of wonder about the world around you. I want you to have the chance to go to college—even if we aren't rich. And I want you to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give you benefits like health care, jobs that let you spend time with your own kids and retire with dignity. A Oil Painting Workshop August 23 For ages 15 and up. But often, it's limited to snowmen or other snow statues. Simon Beck had a different idea, and over the course of a decade he has carved a path for himself in the snow art world. He creates large land art by walking across soccer-field-sized areas covered in untouched snow. Combined with light and shadows (影子), his artistic designs can only be fully appreciated when viewed from above. Beck, a former map maker, turned into a snow artist, thanks to his decision late in life to pursue his hobby. “It started just as a joke one day really,” Beck explained. “After skiing one day, I decided to make a drawing on snow to seek pleasure...” “I really had no idea how good it would look when I made that first drawing, but it really went beyond my expectations,” he said of his first-ever creation that he looked down at from a ski lift. To create this work, Beck stepped his way through the snow using only snowshoes and a ski pole for measurement with nothing else but the image of a design idea in his head. It was not challenging at all due to his previous work experience. But as his designs developed and became more complex, Beck said he began to start drawing them on paper first. Beck's drawings have become a huge hit since his work was first shared. “Most of the time I had been doing failed careers, and people around me are asking what's the quickest way of getting rid of this person,” Beck said. “And for the first time, I felt people actually wanted me. I felt like a more valued member of society.” 24.Where does Simon Beck create art? A.On maps. B.On canvas. C.On soccer fields. D.On snowfields. C.To entertain the skiers. D.To develop a new hobby. 26.How did Beck feel about his first drawing? A.Surprised. B.Unsatisfied. C.Annoyed. D.Indifferent. 根据第二段中的“Beck, a former map maker, turned into a snow artist”和第五段中的 “It was not challenging at all due to his previous work experience.” C Ancient Chinese paintings are always in a vivid state for the world to appreciate, interpret and pass on. Each signature has the echo of history and the breathing of time. When a scroll (卷轴) is opened, the art of painting is transformed into a living story, and the hidden history wakes up from the painting. The Night Revels of Han Xizai is described as the earliest human “movie” with the last emperor of Southern Tang as the “producer”, the painter Gu Hongzhong as the “cameraman”, and Han Xizai as the “leading actor”. It is said that Han Xizai understood the suspicion of the emperor and the intention of the painter's visit, so he staged a banquet (宴会) with songs, dances and drinks to protect himself. Future generations would be able to feel the undeclared battles and historical suspicions of the ruler and ministers of that era through this painting. Then there is The Emperor Taizong Receiving the Tibetan Envoy, which gives you the opportunity to step into Zhenguan Period and watch the scene of Li Shimin, Emperor Tang Taizong, receiving Lu Dongzan in the palace. The paintings are used as brushes to record history and have been passed down for thousands of years. They are ancient paintings, as well as historical documents that can be read at any time. Each one of them is a parallel universe, allowing us to have a glimpse of those historical ups and downs. People of later generations want to use advanced technology and innovative ideas to make history and its stories come alive. Thus, at the 2022 Spring Festival gala, Only This Green, based on the painting A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains, became a hit. We realize that pictures can not only be vivid on paper, but also be alive in 3D. Ancient paintings have been appreciated for over a thousand years, and the beauty of China is more than landscapes.You__can__enjoy__China__in__ancient__paintings__with__a__magnifying__(放大)__glass. Let's enjoy the whispering of ancient paintings and the sweetness of traditional culture in ancient scrolls. 28.Why is The Night Revels of Han Xizai mentioned? D.To show the relationship between rulers and ministers. C.A political event. D.A scene in daily life. 30.Why did Only This Green become a big hit? A.It was based on an ancient Chinese painting. B.It was a combination of technology and trend. C.It was shown at the 2022 Spring Festival gala. D.It made what is in the painting come to life. 31.What does the underlined sentence mean? A.A practical tool is a must when appreciating ancient paintings. B.Ancient paintings are not well preserved due to too long a time. C.The landscapes in ancient paintings prove to be from China. D.A lot about Chinese culture can be learnt from ancient paintings. D It's Paris Fashion Week and the streets of the city are filled with designers, models and journalists. Among the crowds, eagle-eyed experts are taking careful notes. Their job is to detect emerging trends. Their notes will instantly be added to selected “trend forecasts”, which will be sold to designers, who will use them to inspire new pieces. Traditionally, these fashion forecasters have relied only on such methods to make predictions. But as artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have become increasingly powerful in the last decade, forecasting agencies are now turning to machine learning for help. This is all welcome news for an industry worth about $2 trillion globally. Forecasts can have a big influence on the fashion industry's carbon footprint, which is responsible for at least 4% of all worldwide emissions. Designers will produce more of what will actually sell—at the moment, 25% of fashion products are unsalable, or not sold. Besides, using AI tools that can analyze millions of posts from around the world allows designers to look at fashion trends more globally. But designers often feel insecure about relying just on the data provided by AI. “A few years ago, there were big indicators on social media of yellow being a trend,” says Francesca Muston, vice president of a trend forecasting company. “And if you had followed completely the social media data gathered by AI models, yellow pieces would seem to be a good investment. But how many people are really going to wear a bright yellow coat? That's a brave fashion choice.” AI tools don't have their own aesthetic (审美的) viewpoint so they may not be able to satisfy people's desire for newness. “That's why we maintain a very strong creative viewpoint in our forecasting with a team of industry experts,” says Muston. Dr. Michal Koren, a researcher, says, “The role of human experts in identifying trends will continue to be crucial even as AI and data-driven models become more accurate.” 32.What is the purpose of the notes taken by the experts? A.To report the news about Paris Fashion Week. B.To help them make fashion predictions. C.To compare different design methods. D.To collect information about designers. 根据第一段中的“Their job is to detect emerging trends. Their notes...use them to inspire new pieces.” 33.What does paragraph 3 mainly discuss? A.The various benefits of using AI tools to predict trends. B.The high environmental costs of the fashion industry. C.The importance of looking at fashion more globally. D.The serious problem of unsalable fashion products. 根据第三段中的“Forecasts can have a big influence on the fashion...to look at fashion trends more globally.” 34.Why does Muston mention the trend of yellow predicted a few years ago? A.To explain why people dislike some new trends. B.To show AI fashion predictions are not always reliable. C.To describe the recent changes in people's fashion choices. D.To prove the key role of social media in fashion forecasting. 根据倒数第二段中的“AI tools don't have their own aesthetic viewpoint...says Muston.” 35.Which statement might both Muston and Koren agree with? A.Machine learning is more creative than human experts. B.Many human trend forecasters will be unemployed. C.It is possible for AI to have its own fashion sense. D.AI tools will not replace human trend forecasters. 根据倒数第二段中的“That's why we maintain a very strong creative...industry experts”和最后一段中的“The role of human experts in identifying trends will continue to be crucial...more accurate”可推知,马斯顿和科伦都认为,人工智能工具不会取代人类时尚预测专家。 As a professional artist, people ask me all the time where I get inspiration.36.________ Favorite artists? Then, her dance teacher paid a visit with a suggestion: “Why not try choreography (舞蹈设计)?” And so, Sophie began to “dance” with a pen instead of her feet.To her surprise, when she stopped being just a performer of movement and started becoming a creator of it, she uncovered a talent she never knew she possessed. For the year-end performance, the piece she choreographed, Dance of the Rain, earned a standing ovation (起立鼓掌).As the final note faded, one by one, then in rows, the audience rose to their feet, their faces lit up with awe and appreciation. The spotlight, which had followed her dancers so perfectly, now swung to find her in the wings (台侧)—it's time for the curtain call. Wheeling herself onto the brilliant stage, Sophie saw some familiar faces in the audience. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Then Sophie was invited to share her experience, her eyes filled with tears.________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ One possible version: Wheeling herself onto the brilliant stage, Sophie saw some familiar faces in the audience.Sophie's gaze fell on her dance teacher, who was nodding with pride.A few rows back, her parents stood, clutching each other's hands, their expressions a mixture of heartache and overwhelming joy.In that moment, the roaring applause seemed to fade into a distant hum, and all Sophie could feel was the profound, silent understanding passing between her and those who had witnessed her entire journey—from the crushing despair to this radiant, unexpected dawn. Then Sophie was invited to share her experience, her eyes filled with tears. They were not tears of regret for the steps she could not take, but of profound gratitude for the beauty she had learned to create from stillness.Leaning forward slightly, she declared with heartfelt sincerity, “I am not dancing in the rain...I am dancing with it.” She had come to understand that the sorrows we encounter on the path to growing up can sometimes, in the most unexpected ways, guide us to authentic joy. Text one, remember, you promise to help me with my homework for english class. but I want to watch this program first.
