How to Balance Study and Hobbies
Many students think they must give up all hobbies to get high scores, but the youth worker disagrees with this wrong idea. In the school’s psychological programme, he explains that suitable hobbies are good ways to relax after long hours of schoolwork. If teenagers keep cutting back all their favourite activities, they will easily feel tired and lose learning interest day by day.
The worker shared two easy plans for students. First, draw a clear daily timetable and separate study time and hobby time properly. Second, stop wasting hours on meaningless short videos before bedtime. He also reminds students to talk with parents patiently if they disagree with your hobby plans. Most parents will understand you after calm communication.
( )1. What do many students wrongly believe?
A. Hobbies help them relax after study.
B. They need to give up all hobbies for good grades.
C. They can watch videos as much as they like.
D. Parents always support their hobbies.
( )2. Why are proper hobbies helpful for teens?
A. They can make students stay up late.
B. They help students relax from heavy schoolwork.
C. They take all students’ free time.
D. They make students lose interest in study.
( )3. What is the first suggestion from the youth worker?
A. Drop all your favourite hobbies at once.
B. Watch lots of short videos every night.
C. Make a clear daily time plan.
D. Argue with parents about hobbies.
( )4. What should students do if parents disagree with their hobby plans?
A. Shout at their parents at once.
B. Keep silent and hide their hobbies.
C. Communicate with them patiently.
D. Give up hobbies without thinking.

Free Psychological Help in Our School
Now almost every junior high school opens a weekly psychological programme for Grade Nine students. Our school’s programme starts at 4 p.m. every Wednesday and offers free one-on-one psychological advice for anyone who feels upset. The whole lesson mainly covers three key topics for growing teenagers: common causes of heavy study and family pressure, easy daily ways to relax tired minds, and useful communication skills to clear conflicts with parents.
Most ninth graders in our school suffer from two big troubles. First, piles of homework and frequent monthly exams take up almost all their spare time. Second, many teenagers often argue with their parents because parents always pay too much attention to exam marks and ignore kids’ true feelings. The youth worker has tried many simple relaxing skills with students for months, and the experiment results are very satisfying. He clearly pointed out that balancing study and proper hobbies is the most useful way to fight long-term stress. Every Friday after class, our teachers will organize group talks. During the talks, students can freely share their inner worries and talk about good ways to deal with teenage pressure together.
1.When does the school’s psychological programme open every week?
