The building is covered with BioSkin, an external layer of ceramic tubes (陶瓷管) that cools the outside when rainwater collected from the roof is fed into the tubes.(位于东京大崎的索尼城被构想为一个大型降温装置,运作方式宛如“天然森林”。 根据四处建筑的描述:Panyaden International School, Thailand强调“ecological aims(生态目标)”“low carbon footprint(低碳足迹)”,Ospedale dell’ Angelo, Italy被称为“world’s first green general hospital(世界首家绿色综合医院)”,Sony City, Japan的BioSkin系统用于降温节能,Eco-boulevard of Vallecas, Spain的“air tree(空气树)”提供清凉空间并布满植被,可知它们的共同点是均为绿色建筑。 B I’m a single dad raising a son, so I usually helped my child select my Father’s day gifts, and then paid for them. When my son was a high school senior, he took control of the gifting by offering to drive us to Denny’s for breakfast. But the evening before the holiday, I couldn’t sleep. What kept me awake was the realization that this would be the last Father’s day before my kid left for college. It truly felt like I had just taken the training wheels off my son’s bike. In my household, the fridge door is the all-knowing parental focus holding the academic and sports schedules, the school lunch menu, and the family calendar. Also attached to it are photos, awards, artwork, and the “good” report cards. The refrigerator is a super-sized memory book of my son’s life. I began to go through the objects of significant emotional value, which required me to pull the fridge out because all the baby items were pushed to the sides. As I checked the golden oldies, I quickly realized three things. First, I had too many photos. Second, I needed to clear up the sides of the refrigerator. Third, soccer was a big part of our lives. I never played or watched soccer before parenthood. Yet, I became the coach for all his teams until he reached middle school. Back then I assumed it was my fatherly duty to support my son’s activities, but now I understood that I was wrong. After years of supporting, guiding, and loving my son, I finally recognized that taking part in my son’s life on any level was not a duty— it was an honor. I time-traveled through mementos (纪念品), and each memory helped me understand what being a dad really meant. Teenagers might not give us presents we want or need on Father’s day. But they have already given us the best possible gift — allowing us to feel what it’s like to be their dad. 4. What kept the author awake before Father’s day? A. Planning a surprise for his father. B. Reflecting on his poor father-son relationship. C. Feeling emotional about a special Father’s day. D. Getting excited about the breakfast at Denny’s. 5. Why is the fridge important to the family? A. It adds an artistic touch to the house. B. It holds memories of passing family days. C. It is a source of creativity for school lunch. D. It serves as a gathering place for family members. 6. Why did the author pull out the fridge? A. To redecorate its sides. B. To clear up the kitchen. C. To make room for a new one. D. To uncover personal mementos. 7. Why did the author claim that he was wrong in the last but one paragraph? A. He recognized he had too many photos. B. He regretted not playing soccer before parenthood. C. He realized fatherhood was about pride rather than a task. D. He felt ashamed to let his son take control of the gifting. C 5. B 6. D 7. 根据第一段最后两句“But the evening before the holiday, I couldn’t sleep. What kept me awake was the realization that this would be the last Father’s day before my kid left for college.(但在这个节日的前一天晚上,我无法入睡。 根据第二段最后一句“The refrigerator is a super-sized memory book of my son’s life.(冰箱是一本超大号的我儿子生活的记忆之书)”可知,冰箱对这个家庭很重要,是因为它承载着家庭过往日子的回忆。 根据第三段第一句“I began to go through the objects of significant emotional value, which required me to pull the fridge out because all the baby items were pushed to the sides.(我开始翻找那些具有重大情感价值的物品,这就需要我把冰箱拉出来,因为所有孩子小时候的东西都被推到了冰箱侧面)”可知,作者拉出冰箱是为了翻找那些具有重大情感价值的物品,找出个人纪念品。 根据倒数第二段最后一句“Back then I assumed it was my fatherly duty to support my son’s activities, but now I understood that I was wrong. After years of supporting, guiding, and loving my son, I finally recognized that taking part in my son’s life on any level was not a duty— it was an honor.(当时我以为支持儿子的活动是我作为父亲的责任,但现在我明白我错了。 C At a salmon farm in Tasmania, Australia, researchers hope an experiment can save an entire ecosystem from warming oceans. Beneath the waves, scientists are growing several types of giant kelp (巨藻) on rope to track which ones can thrive in hotter conditions. Rising water temperatures have destroyed some 95% of the giant kelp forests here, scientists say. The island south of Australia’s mainland is a global hot spot for ocean warming, with sea temperatures in the island’s east rising faster than the global average, bringing great destruction to some marine species in a place where fishing remains a key industry. Now, financial (财政的) support is increasing to save Tasmania’s giant kelp, which can grow treelike covers near the ocean surface, provides an important habitat for many traded species and can sequester carbon dioxide (CO₂), much like forests on land. The effort is part of a global race to make marine ecosystems more adaptable to climate change. In Tasmania, scientists are conducting experiments to identify heat-tolerant (耐热的) giant kelp, trying to better understand why some types do better than others, and then figure out a way to plant them in the wild without it costing a fortune. Eventually, they could use what they learned about kelp’s DNA to make the seaweed even more heat-tolerant. But before getting too optimistic, it is important to remain realistic about the challenges. Running lab tests on kelp can be tricky, given the great size the plants can reach. Marine heat waves could increase beyond the ability of any kelp to cope. Besides, scientists still aren’t sure to what extent kelp’s DNA has a role in allowing giant kelp to survive in warmer water, compared with favorable environmental conditions. Many locals expressed concern over the giant kelp’s disappearance. “It was like a mat (垫子) on the water,” Anthony Klye, a 57-year-old local fisherman, said, recalling the extent of giant kelp that used to grow. “You could almost walk on it.” But after spending three hours one day recently in the bay, he didn’t see a single strand (缕) of kelp. 8. What is an immediate threat to the fishing industry in Tasmania? A. Thick giant kelp forests. B. Rising sea temperatures. C. Too many illegal fish farms. D. Enormous waves near the mainland. 9. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “sequester” in paragraph 2? A. Burn up. B. Send off. C. Lock away. D. Break down. 10. What do scientists expect from their experiments? A. As many new kelp types as possible. B. An innovative way to help kelp reproduce. C. A less wasteful approach to restoring marine ecosystems. D. An increased heat tolerance in kelp through DNA editing. 11. How did Anthony Klye feel about the current situation? A. Deeply annoyed. B. Totally confused. C. Obviously guilty. D. Incredibly anxious. B 9. C 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“The island south of Australia’s mainland is a global hot spot for ocean warming, with sea temperatures in the island’s east rising faster than the global average, bringing great destruction to some marine species in a place where fishing remains a key industry.(这座位于澳大利亚大陆以南的岛屿是全球海洋变暖的热点区域,其东部海水温度上升速度超过全球平均水平,给这个渔业仍是支柱产业的地区带来了巨大破坏)”可知,渔业面临的紧迫威胁是海水温度上升。 根据第二段中“Now, financial (财政的) support is increasing to save Tasmania’s giant kelp, which can grow treelike covers near the ocean surface, provides an important habitat for many traded species and can sequester carbon dioxide (CO₂), much like forests on land.(如今,为拯救塔斯马尼亚巨藻的财政支持力度正在加大 ——这种藻类能在近海面长成树状的覆盖层,为众多经济物种提供重要栖息地,还能像陆地森林一样封存二氧化碳)”可知,“sequester”与“封存”含义相近,Lock away符合语境。 根据第三段中“Eventually, they could use what they learned about kelp’s DNA to make the seaweed even more heat-tolerant.(最终,他们可以利用从巨藻DNA研究中获得的信息,让这种海藻更加耐热)”可知,科学家期望通过DNA编辑提高巨藻的耐热性。 根据最后一段中“Many locals expressed concern over the giant kelp’s disappearance.(许多当地人对巨藻的消失表示担忧)”及渔民Anthony Klye回忆过去巨藻茂密如今却一无所见的对比可知,他对现状感到极度焦虑。 D Measuring about 400 feet(121.9 metres) in length, the world’s largest airship Pathfinder 1 is nearly twice the length of a Boeing 747-8, the world’s longest aircraft. The airship uses about one million cubic feet of helium (氦) and 12 electric motors to achieve upright take-off and speeds of up to 120 km/h. The vast airship has been created by Lighter Than Air (LTA) Research. Pathfinder 1 is the largest aircraft produced since the 804-foot (245-metre) Hindenburg went up in flames in 1937. While the Hindenburg was filled with extremely flammable hydrogen (易燃氢气), Pathfinder 1 uses safe, non-reactive helium stored in 13 airbags. With technology adapted from drones (无人机), Pathfinder I will also be surprisingly easy to fly and will only need one pilot. While Pathfinder 1 may one day carry tonnes of goods over hundreds of miles, it is currently limited to remaining in the air a few feet off the ground. Since September, Pathfinder1 has been undertaking the first stages of flight testing around the San Francisco Bay. On September 8,2023, it took its first test flight, but it stayed just off the ground the entire time. Future tests will allow it to go up to 1,500 feet and travel out over the waters of the bay. Pathfinder 1 has been in development since 2016, and LTA Research says it is currently working to develop an even larger aircraft called Pathfinder 3. The company’s goal is to have different airships that could be used in transporting goods or passengers, or in delivering emergency humanitarian aid. Pathfinder 1’s creators say that airships will not solve the current problems of air travel but do argue that they have an important role to play in reducing the carbon footprint of air travel. LTA is also not the only company investing (投资) in airships as the future of air travel. In September 2023, the French company Euro Airship announced plans to create a 495ft-long solar-powered aircraft. The Solar Airship One would use solar energy and hydrogen to travel over more than 25 countries without stopping. 12. How is Pathfinder 1 different from the Hindenburg? A. It is smaller in size. B. It is designed to be unmanned. C. It is powered by danger-free energy. D. It has airbags in front of all its seats. 13. What is the aim of Pathfinder 1’s future tests? A. To take off straight up. B. To go far above 1,500 feet. C. To stay just off the ground. D. To broaden its flying range. 14. What is LTA Research’s wish for its airships? A. They can be a help to the environment. B. They can help prevent air travel accidents. C. They can be used by hospitals effectively. D. They can bring down the cost of air travel. 15. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. A new investment direction in air travel. B. A company’s rapid development. C. A short-term investment plan. D. A new way of travel. C 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段“While the Hindenburg was filled with extremely flammable hydrogen (易燃氢气), Pathfinder 1 uses safe, non-reactive helium stored in 13 airbags.(Hindenburg充满了极易燃的氢气,而Pathfinder 1号使用的是安全的、非反应性的氦,储存在13个安全气囊中)”可知,Pathfinder 1是由无危险的能源驱动的。 根据文章第三段“Future tests will allow it to go up to 1,500 feet and travel out over the waters of the bay.(未来的测试将使其达到1500英尺,并在海湾水域上方飞行)”可推知,未来测试的目的是拓展其飞行范围。 根据文章第五段“Pathfinder 1’s creators say that airships will not solve the current problems of air travel but do argue that they have an important role to play in reducing the carbon footprint of air travel.(Pathfinder 1的创造者说,飞艇不会解决当前航空旅行的问题,但他们确实认为它们在减少航空旅行碳足迹方面发挥着重要作用)”可知,LTA Research的期望是他们的飞艇可以对环境有所帮助。故选A。 根据文章最后一段“LTA is also not the only company investing in airships as the future of air travel. In September 2023, the French company Euro Airship announced plans to create a 495ft-long solar-powered aircraft. The Solar Airship One would use solar energy and hydrogen to travel over more than 25 countries without stopping.(LTA也不是唯一一家将飞艇作为航空旅行未来进行投资的公司。 故选A。 How to stay safe in crowded places Before you head out to a fun event where there will be many people, you should be aware of the dangers of a crowd crush. Though the risk of a crowd crush is rare, it can be deadly when it happens. A crowd crush occurs when many people are packed (挤) together and begin to fall over one another. ___16___ To avoid such a fate (命运), it’s best to escape the crush before it happens. Before attending a crowded event, look at a map of the site. This will give you an idea of the surroundings — pay special attention to any exits. Once you arrive, choosing the right spot can be extremely important. Avoid the middle or front; instead, pick the back of a crowd. It’s also important to trust your feelings. ___17___ The more crowded the event becomes, the sooner you may need to return to a safe place. If you do end up in a crowd crush, here’s how you can stay safe. The most important thing you can do is stay on your feet. To do this, spread your feet apart and bend (弯曲) your knees a little. ___18___ Trying to move against a large group of people will only end in disaster. ___19___ Once one person falls down, more people tend to fall over them. So if your neighbor in the crowd falls to the ground, help them up. A common cause of death in a crowd crush isn’t being crushed but rather a lack of air. It’s best to hold out your arms in front of your chest (胸部). ___20___ It also protects your chest and lungs from being crushed on the ground should you fall. A. There is usually fun where the crowds are. B. Stay aware to see if you feel packed in at any point. C. Also make sure to move with the flow of the crowd. D. Helping others is another great way to keep everyone safe. E. Some people lose awareness while they’re still standing up. F. This makes space between you and the person in front of you. G. In the past, such instances have caused horrible injury and even death. G 17. B 18. C 19. D 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“Though the risk of a crowd crush is rare, it can be deadly when it happens. A crowd crush occurs when many people are packed (挤) together and begin to fall over one another.( 虽然人群挤压的风险很少见,但一旦发生就可能是致命的。当许多人挤在一起并开始互相摔倒时,就会发生人群挤压)”和下文“To avoid such a fate (命运), it’s best to escape the crush before it happens.(为了避免这样的命运,最好在踩踏发生之前就逃离它)”可知,选项说明发生挤压所带来的伤害。 【17题详解】 根据上文“Avoid the middle or front; instead, pick the back of a crowd. It’s also important to trust your feelings.(避免在中间或前面;相反,选择人群的后面)”和下文“The more crowded the event becomes, the sooner you may need to return to a safe place.(活动越拥挤,你可能需要越早回到安全的地方)”可知,选项承接上下文说明人群越来越拥挤时的感觉和处理。 【18题详解】 根据下文“Trying to move against a large group of people will only end in disaster.(试图在一大群人中逆流而行只会以灾难告终)”可知,选项应指出要随着人流移动。 【19题详解】 根据下文“Once one person falls down, more people tend to fall over them. So if your neighbor in the crowd falls to the ground, help them up.(一旦一个人倒下,就会有更多的人倒在他身上。 【20题详解】 根据上文“A common cause of death in a crowd crush isn’t being crushed but rather a lack of air. It’s best to hold out your arms in front of your chest(胸部).(在人群挤压中死亡的常见原因不是被挤压,而是缺乏空气。 故F选项“这会在你和你前面的人之间留出空间”切题,this指代上文提到的“hold out your arms in front of your chest”。 British teen Kitty Tait wakes up at 5 a.m. every day to bake (烘焙) bread for her customers. She proposed the idea of bagging up unused items and donating (捐赠) them to those in need, provided they were in good condition. Taking on the task, I made sure to exclude my belongings from the donation pile (堆). My younger sister, Indi, and brother, Tex, also stressed the importance of keeping their own things. Mom allowed us the entire afternoon to sort through the garage and instructed us to keep only the items we truly used or treasured. With that, she left us to begin our sorting adventure. However, the process didn’t exactly bring us joy. We found ourselves standing before a massive pile of items, unsure of where to begin. Indi excitedly pointed out her favorite old jump rope, saying that she couldn’t part with it. Tex proudly showcased his beloved yo-yo, claiming it was his best ever. Soon enough, an argument began as their toys became entangled (缠住). Realizing it was useless to untangle the mess, I suggested we set the task aside for later. Amidst the disorder, we spotted an old scooter (滑板车), which brought back memories of its previous use. Although it had only one wheel and required repairs, we decided to keep it alongside the tangled jump rope and yo-yo. Indi’s discovery of a worn-out stuffed animal caught our attention. Its identity was uncertain, with Tex claiming it was Stripy the elephant, despite the absence of its nose. However, due to its poor condition, we concluded that it couldn’t be donated and unwillingly set it aside. As the hour passed, we found board games with missing pieces, broken toys, and various kinds of sports equipment. Each decision felt difficult, leading us to put most items into the “figure-it-out-later” pile. Just as we were feeling quite frustrated, our friend Ollie arrived. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Eager for assistance, we gladly accepted Ollie’s offer to make the signs for the sorting system. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just as we were feeling quite frustrated, our friend Ollie arrived. Seeing the messy garage, he immediately understood why we looked so upset. He noticed the pile of toys that we had failed to sort and smiled kindly. “Why not create a simple sorting system?” he suggested, adding that we should divide the items into three clear categories: “Keep”, “Donate” and “Trash”. His practical advice cheered us up instantly because we finally had a clear plan to follow. Ollie then picked up the broken scooter, which reminded him of a similar toy he once fixed, and encouraged us to try repairing it instead of just storing it away. Eager for assistance, we gladly accepted Ollie’s offer to make the signs for the sorting system. While he was busy designing the labels, Indi and I started separating the items that were still in good condition. Tex found the missing game pieces that we had searched for earlier, which made everyone laugh happily. We decided that the worn-out stuffed animal, whose nose was missing, should be thrown away despite Tex’s initial protests. Before long, the garage looked tidy and organized. Mom was very pleased with the result and told us that we had done a great job working together. 词汇激活 行为类 ①分类:sort/classify/categorize ②修理:fix/repair/mend 情绪类 ①沮丧的:upset/discouraged/frustrated ②开心地:happily/cheerfully/joyfully 【点睛】【高分句型1】 He noticed the pile of toys that we had failed to sort and smiled kindly.(运用了关系代词that引导的限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】Ollie then picked up the broken scooter, which reminded him of a similar toy he once fixed, and encouraged us to try repairing it instead of just storing it away.(运用了关系代词which引导的非限制性定语从句和省略了关系代词that/which的定语从句修饰名词toy) 第五部分 卷面(满分2分) 要求:书写规范;卷面整洁;布局合理。 1. C At a salmon farm in Tasmania, Australia, researchers hope an experiment can save an entire ecosystem from warming oceans. D Measuring about 400 feet(121.9 metres) in length, the world’s largest airship Pathfinder 1 is nearly twice the length of a Boeing 747-8, the world’s longest aircraft. B. Though the risk of a crowd crush is rare, it can be deadly when it happens. A crowd crush occurs when many people are packed (挤) together and begin to fall over one another. ___16___ To avoid such a fate (命运), it’s best to escape the crush before it happens. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第五部分 卷面(满分2分) 要求:书写规范;卷面整洁;布局合理。
