Hong Wang: A Pioneering Female Mathematician
In April 2026, 35-year-old Chinese mathematician Hong Wang was awarded the title of Silver Professor, New York University’s highest honor. Earlier this year, she received the 2026 AWM Sadosky Research Prize, a top international award for women in mathematical analysis. Back in 2025, she became the first female permanent professor at France’s famous IHES. These honors recognize her groundbreaking contributions to harmonic (调和) analysis and geometric (几何的) measure theory, making her one of the world’s top experts in pure maths.
Born in 1991 in Guilin, China, Hong Wang developed a deep passion for mathematics from an early age. Even though she was often the only girl in advanced math classes, she never let gender (性别) stereotypes (刻板印象) hold her back. Instead, she had been recognized to be diligent and explored mathematical problems with endless efforts. This early determination laid a solid foundation for her future career.
After graduating from high school, Wang attended Peking University where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She then pursued further studies in France before obtaining her PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2019. Her study experience in top universities around the world shows her great talent and hard work.
In recent years, Wang solved the three-dimensional Kakeya conjecture (猜想). This difficult math problem had confused experts for about 100 years. Her work, which received high praise from world-famous mathematicians like Terence Tao, has greatly influenced the field of geometric measure theory.
Hong Wang’s success story serves as a powerful inspiration for women and young girls who are interested in STEM fields. She proves that gender is not something to stop women from achieving greatness and encourages others to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
24.What can we learn about Hong Wang from the first paragraph?
A.She was the first Chinese professor at IHES .
B.She received important international prizes in 2025 and 2026.
C.She has become the most famous female mathematician worldwide.
D.Her research mainly focuses on women’s rights and gender equality.
25.What does the underlined word “diligent” in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A.strict B.hard-working C.independent D.confident
26.Why was Hong Wang highly praised by Terence Tao?
A.She confused experts with a hard math problem.
B.She helped organize international mathematics competitions.
C.She trained many young experts in geometric measure theory.
D.She solved a difficult mathematical problem that stood for nearly 100 years.
27.What message does the passage mainly convey?
A.Gender doesn’t matter. B.Great minds think alike.
C.One is never too old to learn. D.Many hands make light work.

BEING an astronaut sounds cool, doesn’t it? In space, they get to do some pretty amazing things, like floating in zero gravity (重力).
However, there are also plenty of things that astronauts can’t do because of their weightless environment, and that’s very sad. What’s worse, they can’t even let their sadness show — because it’s impossible to cry in zero gravity.
Of course, astronauts can still produce tears. But crying is much more difficult in space, reported The Atlantic in January. Without gravity, tears don’t flow downward out of the eyes like they do here on Earth. This means that when you cry in space, your tears have nowhere to go — they just stick to your eyes.
In May 2011, astronaut Andrew Feustel experienced this during one of his spacewalks. “Tears,” he said, “don’t fall off of your eye...They just kind of stay there.”
Besides making your vision unclear, this can also cause physical pain. Back on Earth, tears are supposed to bring comfort to the eyes. But that’s not the case in space. The space environment dries out astronauts’ eyes, and when tears suddenly wet the eyes, it can cause pain rather than comfort.” My right eye is painful like crazy.” Feustel told his teammate during the walk.
Since gravity doesn’t work in space, astronauts need some extra help to get rid of the tears. Feustel chose to rub his eyes against his helmet to wipe the tears away. Another choice is to just wait — “When the tears get big enough, they simply break free of the eye and float around,” astronaut Ron Parise told The Atlantic.
There are lots of small things — things like crying — that we are so used to on Earth. We usually take them for granted, until they become a problem in a totally different environment, like space. There, astronauts can’t talk to each other directly. They also can’t eat or drink in normal ways. They can’t even burp (打嗝), because there is no gravity to hold the food down in their stomach. If they do burp, they just end up throwing up (呕吐) everything in their stomach, according to the UK National Space Center.
Thus, perhaps it’s only space explorers who can honestly say: “Gravity, you’re the best.”
28.From Paragraphs 2 and 3, we can know that ________.
A.astronauts are unable to feel sad in space
B.astronauts produce fewer tears in space
C.tears produced in space don’t flow downward
D.tears produced in space flow down more slowly
29.What effect do tears have on astronauts?
A.They cause physical pain. B.They bring comfort to them.
C.They make their vision clearer. D.They float around and cause trouble.
30.What can the astronaut do to get rid of the tears?
A.Rub his eyes against his helmet to let the tears float forward.
B.Get the tears big enough to break away from his eyes.
C.Get the tears big enough to fall off of his eyes.
D.Rub his eyes by hand to let the tears float around.
31.What’s the second-to-last paragraph mainly about?
A.Suggestions on how astronauts can stay comfortable in space.
B.Things that humans can’t do without gravity.
C.Why burping is impossible in space.
D.Other basic things that are difficult to do in space.

Banff National Park is Canada’s firstborn national park and was recognized in 1885. Located in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Banff includes 6,641 square kilometers of glaciers and ice fields, thick forests, and alpine (高山的) scenery. The Icefields Park-way spreads from Lake Louise, connecting to Jasper National Park in the north. Provincial forests and Yoho National Park are neighbors to the west while Kootenay National Park is situated to the south. The main commercial center of the park is the town of Banff, in the Bow River valley.
The Canadian Pacific Railway was contributory in Banff’s early years, building the Banff Springs Hotel and Chateau Lake Louise hotel in the park and attracting tourists through widespread advertising. In the early 20th century, roads were built in Banff, at times by prisoners of World War I, and through Great Depression-era public works projects. As Banff has over three million visitors annually, the health of its ecology has been endangered. In the mid-1990s, Parks Canada launched a two-year study to preserve ecological integrity.
Banff National Park has a subarctic climate with three ecoregions. The forests feature pine trees at lower heights and Engelmann spruce at higher ones below the tree line, above which are chiefly rocks and ice. Mammal species such as the grizzly bear, cougar, wolverine, moose and bighorn sheep are found along with hundreds of bird species. Reptiles (爬行动物) are also found but only a restricted number of species have been recorded.
The mountains were formed from sedimentary rocks (沉积岩) which were pushed east over newer rock formations, between 80 and 55 million years ago. Over the previous few million years, glaciers have at times covered most of the park, but today are found only on the mountainsides though they include the Columbia Icefield, the largest continuous glacial mass in the Rockies. Being washed and crashed by water and ice has molded the mountains into their current appearance.
32.What can we infer about Banff National Park?
A.It was built mainly by prisoners.
B.It is connected to three provincial parks.
C.It is the oldest national park in Canada.
D.It failed to meet visitors’ commercial needs.
33.What was a contribution of the Canadian Pacific Railway?
A.Building roads in Banff. B.Preserving the ecology of Banff.
C.Constructing hotels in Banff. D.Providing multiple railways to Banff.
34.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The limited knowledge of reptiles. B.The biodiversity of Banff.
C.The region’s severe living conditions. D.The complex climate system of Banff.
35.What does the underlined word “molded” most probably mean?
A.Stuck. B.Broken. C.Followed. D.Shaped.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Flying cars have been a popular feature in sci-fi and fantasy stories since the early 1900s. But they’re not flying across our actual skies. Building flying cars is about more than just bringing sci-fi to life. 36 Today’s drivers can only travel in two dimensions (维度): north-south and east-west. Flying cars could unlock a third dimension: up-down. Imagine a world where you could beat rush-hour traffic by lifting off the ground.
This could be especially useful as the world’s population continues to grow. “I think that finally we will see a day when we use the third dimension to help us get around. 37 It will only worsen over time,” said Anderson, the former director of the Eagle Flight Research Center.
The main issue with flying cars is their high cost. Personal flying cars may come with a high price tag. Most people could never afford one. But average people may still ride in flying vehicles one day. 38 Something like Uber or Lyft for the skies may be more practical than everyone owning one.
39 Batteries are heavy, and — like those in electric cars — have a limited operating time. Current rechargeable batteries can only support flying cars for 20 to 30 minutes. While a car that runs out of charge can simply pull over, a flying car would fall out of the sky. So it’s extra important that these batteries last for a long time.
Even though some companies plan to produce flying cars sooner, they probably won’t be common in 10 or 20 years. First, aircraft need to be tested over and over for safety. Moreover, the rules of the road aren’t enough. Flying cars require their own set of rules for moving smoothly in the sky. 40
A.Powering flying cars is another challenge.
B.There might be a rideshare service for flying cars.
C.Flying cars save up lots of space without runways.
D.Otherwise, Earth is going to be a pretty crowded place.
E.These steps are needed before we make flying cars a reality.
F.It’s about making better use of space to move people around.
G.Repair costs would be much higher than those of a normal car.

When I was four or five, I lived with my parents on the construction base where my father worked. As part of the Christmas celebrations, there was the usual Christmas party for the kids of the families on the base.
This involved an evening of lively partying, delicious food like mini sandwiches and candy canes, cheerful dancing to Christmas carols, fun games with small prizes, and the most exciting part, a visit from Santa
Santa would sit at the front of the dance floor on a red chair, and kids would sit with their parents around the room. Santa would pull a gift out of the big green box beside him and read the name out, and the lucky child would go over, take the gift, have their photo taken with Santa, and go back to their parents with a big smile.
Imagine being the child who was the last to be called, sitting there quietly and watching as everyone else got their turn, the anticipation building up little by little, waiting anxiously to be called. Now be that child — the one whose name still hadn’t been called when Santa reached the end of the gifts in his bag — literally turned it inside out, said, “And that’s it”, wished us all a Merry Christmas, and exited stage left.
That year, I was that child. It had never happened before, but someone had messed up really badly. As the realisation dawned on me that Santa had forgotten me, I could still remember the voice “Oh, no” from my father behind me.
I didn’t remember much about what happened next — probably cried my eyes out, my heart broken by the disappointment of missing out on Santa’s gift — but right after the party, we ended up meeting Santa in a quiet corridor near the party room.

第四部分 写作(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (满分15分)
My dear friends, gone are the happy summer holidays! It’s a pleasure to share with you what I did during the vacation.
I spent some time staying with my parents, chatting, dining or walking with them and they were very happy. After all, I’ll have no time to keep them company after the new term kick-starts. Of course, like all my classmates, I devoted most of my time to finishing my schoolwork. Sometimes I read for relaxation as well. Besides, I volunteered to help the community staff carry out various tasks against the COVID-19. The realization that health is of great importance was one of the biggest things that hit home to me.
第二节 (满分25分)
Santa was still in his red suit, wearing a look of regret and apology on his face. Without waiting for my parents to speak, he knelt down gently, wiping the tears from my cheeks with his warm gloved hand. “Oh, my dear little one,” he said in a soft, reassuring voice, the same voice that had filled the dance floor with joy just moments before, “I am so sorry that I missed you.” He explained that he made a terrible mistake and no child should ever feel left out on Christmas. His words carried no excuses, only genuine sorrow for having overlooked me.
Santa reached into the pocket of his suit, and pulled out a small, neatly wrapped gift. “This is just for you,” he smiled, placing it in my trembling hands. He sincerely told me that Christmas isn’t just about getting gifts — it’s about feeling loved, cared for and cherished. As he spoke, he pulled me into a gentle hug, and at that moment, all the sadness and disappointment melted away. I felt warm, safe, and seen — like the most important child in the whole world.

【答案】24.B 25.B 26.D 27.A
【导语】文章主要讲述了中国女数学家王虹的成长经历、在数学领域取得的杰出成就及影响。
【详解】24.细节理解题。根据第一段中“Earlier this year, she received the 2026 AWM Sadosky Research Prize, a top international award for women in mathematical analysis. Back in 2025, she became the first female permanent professor at France’s famous IHES.(今年早些时候,她获得了2026年AWM萨多斯基奖,这是数学分析领域女性获得的顶尖国际奖项。早在2025年,她就成为了法国著名高等科学研究所的第一位女性终身教授)”可知,她在2025年和2026年获得了重要的国际奖项。
25.词句猜测题。根据第二段中“explored mathematical problems with endless efforts(以不懈的努力探索数学问题)”可知,她很勤奋,所以diligent意为“勤奋的”,与hard-working同义。
26.细节理解题。根据第四段中“In recent years, Wang solved the three-dimensional Kakeya conjecture (猜想). This difficult math problem had confused experts for about 100 years. Her work, which received high praise from world-famous mathematicians like Terence Tao(近年来,王虹解决了三维挂谷猜想。这个数学难题困扰了专家们大约100年。她的工作得到了像陶哲轩这样的世界著名数学家的高度赞扬)”可知,她解决了困扰专家近100年的数学难题,所以得到了陶哲轩的高度赞扬。

【答案】My dear friends, gone are the happy summer holidays!

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Santa was still in his red suit, wearing a look of regret and apology on his face.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
