Green Habits, Green Campus
Every small action counts when it comes to protecting our campus. Here is one green habit I practice daily.
Wherever I go, I would like to bring my own water bottle instead of buying bottled drinks. This simple switch can save dozens of plastic bottles every month, which will not only reduce plastic pollution to improve the campus environment, but also prevent micro plastics going into our body. Meanwhile, it’s economical.
I strongly recommend every student adopt this green habit. Let’s work together to make our campus greener, one small step at a time!
第二节(满分25分)(one possible version)
Janet hesitated, torn between the two choices. Gordon’s offer was appealing — it could save her exam. But deep down, she knew it was wrong. Cheating would only bring guilt and fear. After a moment of struggle, she looked at Gordon and said, “Thank you, but I can’t do that.” Emily nodded with a smile. Together, they went to Mr. Blake. Janet explained what had happened, her voice shaking slightly. Mr. Blake listened patiently, then reached into his desk drawer. “Don’t worry, Janet. Here’s an extra calculator you can use,” he said kindly.
With a calculator in hand, Janet started the exam. She felt a wave of relief replacing the heavy clouds of anxiety. She sat down, took a deep breath, and started working through the problems one by one. The equations she had practiced so hard finally felt manageable. Although some questions were still tough, she faced them with calmness and confidence. When the bell rang, Janet put down her pen and smiled. She might not get the best score, but she had made the right choice — honesty and courage. That was her true victory today.

第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
As a key ancient Silk Road stop with over 2, 500 years of history, Khiva (希瓦) was once difficult to reach due to poor transport links — but with the foundation of a high-speed rail connection to Bukhara and Samarkand and a major airport expansion in 2026, this historic city is being improved by its new transportation.
What to do
Most attractions are inside the 26-hectare walled Itchan Kala (希瓦内城). You can climb the 187 feet Islam Khodja Minaret for bird’s-eye views, enjoy the tile-covered Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum, Juma Mosque’s 213 carved pillars and the Russian-Khivan Nurullaboy Palace.
When to go
March and November are the best months to go there. Nowruz (a local festival on 20-21 March) brings concerts and parades.
Where to eat
Try national dish “plov” or Khiva’s dill-noodle specialty “shivit oshi”. The top spots are Terrassa Cafe (rooftop views), Zarafshon Cafe (historic madrassa setting), and Sofra (modern Uzbek cuisine).
Getting around
The new high-speed train (2026) links Khiva to Bukhara and Samarkand. The station is a 5-min taxi or 20-min walk from Itchan Kala. The nearest airport — Urgench is only 23 miles away, with flights from Istanbul, Paris, and daily services to Tashkent. Besides, walking is the best way to explore Khiva. Almost all of the Itchan Kala is only for walking, and most hotels and attractions outside the city walls are only a short distance away. The Yandex Go taxi app is convenient for longer trips.
21. Which of the following might be the best time to visit Khiva?
A. Spring and fall. B. All year round.
C. One month before Nowruz festival. D. Summer and winter.
22. What can be inferred about the new high speed train to Khiva?
A. It will promote the city’s tourism. B. It is the only way to reach the city.
C. It was already in use before 2026. D. It will connect most remote cities.
23. Where can the text be found?
A. In a history book. B. In a Khiva’s novel.
C. In a nature biography. D. In a geographical magazine.
B
My back started acting up about the same time my car did. Both were old and worn out. Thankfully, my doctor found no serious problems with my muscles or spine (脊柱). “You’re no spring chicken,” she said. “The older we get, the more our backs tend to hurt. The best advice I can give you is to keep moving. Take some medicine when you’re really uncomfortable. And direct heat helps. ” My mechanic’s advice was very direct: “Sell that old car before you have to pay to have it taken away.” So I did.
I bought a low-mileage used car without many bells and whistles — no satellite radio, no navigation (导航) system, no moon roof. But there was one luxury (奢侈品) I insisted on: heated front seats. As I pulled out of the car shop, I turned the driver’s seat heater to high. Within seconds, my lower back felt wonderful. On the way home, I parked far from the grocery store and walked hurriedly. No back pain. That afternoon, while waiting for my daughter’s piano lesson, I walked around the block instead of sitting in the car reading a magazine. Again, my back felt fine.
Over the following weeks, I fell into a routine — a few minutes of radiating heat before driving, followed by a few minutes of walking. I took less pain medicine. My walks grew longer. When spring turned into summer, I worried the heated seat would be too hot. No problem — I simply used the low setting and turned up the air conditioning. And I kept walking.
Is my back pain gone forever? No. Every now and then, I feel that familiar pain. But I know what to do: take a quick drive, then a long walk. I remain forever grateful for that simple heated seat — the one luxury my poor, aching old back needed.
24. What does the underlined “You are no spring chicken” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. You don’t like eating chicken in spring. B. You are no longer young and healthy.
C. You have a special connection to spring. D. You are as energetic as a young bird.
25. Why did the author choose to buy a car with heated front seats?
A. Her doctor directly advised her to get heated seats.
B. She wanted to try every new function in the used car.
C. She thought the heat would help relieve her back pain.
D. Her mechanic strongly recommended this luxury feature.
26. How did the author’s daily routine change after buying the car?
A. She combined short heat with walking.
B. She parked closer to stores to avoid walking.
C. She drove longer distances to warm up her back.
D. She stopped taking all pain medicine completely.
27. What conclusion can we draw from the passage?
A. Physical exercise is better than medicine.
B. Cars’ ageing is the main cause of back pain.
C. Heated seats should be a standard feature for cars.
D. A simple solution can help manage an annoying problem.
C
In today’s world, people are working hard to protect nature and help animal populations grow. Using new tools and teamwork, they can make a real difference. A good example of this is happening on Kangaroo Island in Australia, where a special project is saving native animals from a dangerous enemy: feral cats. Feral cats are wild cats that hunt and kill local wildlife, and they have become a serious problem for many small animals.
In 2019 and 2020, huge bushfires burned one third of Kangaroo Island. The fires destroyed many animals’ homes and food sources. But fire was not the only danger. After the fires, feral cats started attacking the surviving native animals, which were already weak and few in number. These small animals include the greater bilby, the numbat, and the Gilbert’s potoroo. Without help, these animals could disappear forever.
To solve this problem, the Kangaroo Island Landscape Board built a 3-kilometer electric fence. This fence separates the Dudley Peninsula from the rest of the island and protects 38, 000 hectares of land. Inside this fenced area, workers use different tools to find and remove feral cats. They fly drones with special cameras that can detect heat, which helps them find cats even at night. They also set traps and use artificial intelligence, or AI. The AI helps the cameras tell the difference between cats and other animals like kangaroos, so workers do not hurt the wrong animals.
Thanks to these efforts, the number of feral cats on the Peninsula has dropped from about 1, 600 to just 150. Native animals are now coming back. The Kangaroo Island dunnart, a small mouse-like animal, has increased by 90 to 100 percent. Birds like the Bassian thrush and western whipbird have also returned to the fenced area. As one ecologist said, these birds were not living inside the fence when it was first built, but now they have found their way back on their own. This project shows that using the right technology, along with careful planning, can help save wildlife and bring nature back to life.
28. What can we infer about native animals after the bushfires?
A. They moved to other safe places on the island.
B. They were weak and facing a new serious threat.
C. They could protect themselves better than before.
D. They almost disappeared from the burnt areas.
29. How does AI technology help with the project on Kangaroo Island?
A. It catches feral cats without any human help.
B. It helps cameras tell feral cats from other animals.
C. It improves drones’ ability to discover heat sources.
D. It records the daily behavior of native small animals.
30. What is the result of the efforts made on Kangaroo Island?
A. The number of feral cats has dropped a little.
B. Native animals recovered right after the fence was built.
C. The decrease of feral cats helps native wildlife make a recovery.
D. Native bird species on the island have doubled in number.
31. What message does the author mainly want to convey?
A. Native animals can fully recover on their own.
B. Feral cats are too difficult to bring under control.
C. Bushfires are the most dangerous threat to wildlife.
D. Proper technology and good planning can help save nature.
D
For many children, getting their first pair of glasses means seeing clearly again. But what if a pair of glasses could not only correct nearsightedness (myopia), but also slow its progression? The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently approved a new type of glasses that aims to do exactly that.
Myopia rates are rising worldwide, possibly due to more time spent indoors looking at screens. In the United States, 30 to 40 percent of children and young adults will develop myopia by the time they finish high school. Myopia occurs when the eye grows too long, causing distant objects to appear unclear. The condition typically worsens during childhood, when the eyes are still developing, and then stabilizes (稳定) in adulthood. That is why slowing its progression in children is so important.
The newly approved glasses use a special lens (镜片) design. The lenses have a clear center, but that center is surrounded by rings of tiny raised dots. These dots defocus peripheral (外围的) light, which is believed to slow the growth of the eye. As one expert explains, the whole retina (视网膜) regulates eye growth, but clear vision must be provided to the central retina. Therefore, the signals to slow eye growth are placed in the peripheral retina.
Tests have shown that when used by children aged six to twelve, these glasses can slow the progression of myopia by 70 percent over two years. However, scientists are still not entirely sure why defocusing peripheral light slows eye growth. The exact visual signals processed by the retina to reduce growth remain unknown. Nevertheless, the glasses work.
Slowing myopia progression in children is important not only for better vision in adulthood but also because high myopia can lead to serious eye complications later, such as glaucoma, myopic maculopathy, and retinal detachment — conditions that may cause permanent (永久的) vision loss. Sometimes, knowing that a treatment works is more important than fully understanding how it works. And in this case, the evidence is clear.
32. What does paragraph 2 tell us about myopia?
A. More outdoor time will raise myopia rates.
B. Most teenagers will develop myopia before high school.
C. Myopia can stop worsening when a person reaches adulthood.
D. Myopia can be effectively treated if detected early in childhood.
33. What is the main function of the newly approved special glasses?
A. To cure kids’ myopia within two years.
B. To make peripheral light focus clearly for eyes.
C. To help scientists find out causes of eye diseases.
D. To slow down the worsening of children’s shortsightedness.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards the new glasses?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Uninterested.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. The Rising Rates of Myopia in Children
B. How to Choose the Right Glasses for Children
C. New Glasses That May Slow Nearsightedness in Children
D. The Importance of Outdoor Activities for Children’s Eye Health
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Whether you’re a social butterfly or a natural loner, science has discovered we can all benefit from voluntary solitude (独处) now and then. 36
Communicate to avoid hurting others
Saying you want to be alone can come with the risk of making loved ones feel rejected. It’s common to experience feelings of guilt. But without alone time, our social batteries can be used up because we aren’t giving ourselves the chance to manage our thoughts. 37 So communicating openly about the importance of alone time can help reduce feelings of rejection.
Embrace “positive selfishness”
Once loved ones understand the benefits of alone time, you’re ready to embrace a positive kind of “selfishness”. 38 “Positive selfishness” could involve lunch at your favourite café without inviting a friend or watching a long-awaited film at the cinema without taking your partner. Whatever it may be, if it's not hurting anyone, give yourself permission to please yourself.
39
It can be easy to worry about wasting our precious alone time. However, experts suggest solitude is a great opportunity to “switch off” to disconnect from the outside world, focusing on our own thoughts and feelings. Time alone is meaningful if it does what you need.
Avoid unhealthy solitude
40 Often, when we choose to spend time alone, we may experience feelings of anxiety about missing out. Experts warn learning to overcome fear of missing out is important. When these negative emotions appear, nudging yourself into social situations, even if you don't immediately feel like it, can help you maintain balance and a healthy connection with others.
A. Make time alone meaningful.
B. Make your social life more colorful.

It was a typical Monday morning for Janet, a hard-working high school senior. The sound of her elarm clock woke her up, a rude awakening from her sweet dreams. She unwillingly opened her eyes, knowing what waited for her — another five long days at school.
Dragging herself out of bed, Janet went through her usual morning routine. She hurriedly got dressed, grabbed her schoolbag, and rushed to the kitchen for breakfast. Her mother had prepared a delicious meal, but Janet didn’t feel like eating. She was too busy with thoughts of an upcoming exam in her most challenging subject, math.
As Janet walked to school, her mind wandered back to the countless hours she had spent studying and practicing equations (方程式). She had put in lots of effort, hoping to improve her grades. However, despite her efforts, she was struggling to achieve the desired results. Doubts started showing up, and anxiety stayed in her mind like dark clouds.
As students settled into their seats, Mr. Blake, their math teacher, announced that the exam would take place that afternoon. Janet started to feel afraid. She suddenly realized that she had forgotten her calculator (计算器) at home, an important tool for the exam. Panie turned into hopelessness, as she knew that borrowing one during the test would not be allowed.
Janet’s friends, Emily and Gordon, noticed her worry and approached her after class. They offered their help. Emily suggested that Janet be honest with Mr. Blake and explain her situation. Gordon, however, had a different plan. He advised passing his calculator to her during the exam, risking punishment for cheating.
