On the morning of November 13, a graceful violin melody flowed along the Qingdao seashore, blending (融合) perfectly with the rhythm of the ocean waves. The man playing the violin is Petar Kutin, a Bulgarian teaching music at Yew Chung International School of Qingdao.
For Kutin, who has been extensively trained in Western music, Chinese music holds a special charm. He skillfully combines Chinese and Western musical elements and works with Chinese musicians to create original pieces. In one of his latest works, Kutin blends his violin with the erhu, alongside the sounds of frogs and birds, creating a harmonious and moving composition.
“I believe that music is an incredibly powerful language that brings people together.” Kutin said. At Yew Chung International School of Qingdao, this philosophy comes to life. To help his students with diverse backgrounds overcome cultural shock and quickly adapt to the Chinese environment, Kutin arranges music pieces tailored to their abilities. “When students perform together, it promotes teamwork and allows them to express both their cultural identity and individuality. Playing together builds confidence, happiness, and a sense of belonging. Music truly bonds the performers.” Kutin said.
Kutin also uses music to deliver meaningful messages to his students. He wrote the lyrics of a song about frugality together with the students, explaining what frugality mean — reusing items instead of throwing them unnecessarily, avoiding waste. They turned this message into a song and then into a music video, which they play almost every week.
In addition to his work at school, Kutin composes music for social causes. He has created several pieces to help people with mental disabilities relax and find comfort.
“Music is constantly developing, and musicians must keep learning to grow.” he said. With a passion for creating and sharing, Kutin aims to promote deeper connections between people and cultures, contributing to a more harmonious and lively future through music.
24. What do we know about Kutin?
A. He blends east and west in music. B. He received music education in China.
C. He thinks nature is vital in Chinese music. D. He prefers Chinese music to Western music.
25. What is Kutin’s belief about music?
A. Music enhances personal abilities. B. Music removes cultural differences.
C. Music bears the magic to unite people. D. Music expresses the philosophy of life.
26. What can we learn from the example in paragraph 4?
A. Kutin’s music is popular. B. Kutin’s music is emotional.
C. Kutin’s music is instructive. D. Kutin’s music is traditional.
27. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. A Song Of Nature B. A Rhyme Of Kindness
C. A Tune Of Happiness D. A Symphony Of Harmony

Scientists in South Africa have found that ceramic (瓷的) nest (巢) boxes can protect endangered African penguins from climate change.
In the past, the penguins laid eggs in holes dug into centuries-old layers of their own droppings, most of which was shipped by traders to the United Kingdom as fertilizer (肥料) in the 1800s. Since then, many penguins have nested in the open, exposing their eggs and themselves to the burning heat.
Because penguins developed to keep heat in cold water, they can easily overheat on land. Typically, penguins leave their nests regularly to cool off in the sea. But without suitable holes, this leaves their eggs unprotected. Since 1900, the African penguin population has dropped from three million to only 48,000.
Fortunately, a team of researchers seem to have found a way. Over the past years, the team has put more than 1,500 handmade ceramic nest boxes in five areas where the penguins live, including Bird Island in Algoa Bay, South Africa, which is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining African penguins.
Looking like small round houses, the double-walled ceramic nests can keep African penguins comfortable. “The nests are so useful,” says Welman, a zoologist, “Even if adults had to leave nests for some reason, their eggs would never be at any risk of overheating.” Christina Hagen of Bird Life South Africa, who was not part of the study, says finding effective conservation solutions is important given the decreasing population of African penguins.
The main threat to African penguins is over-hunting of anchovy and sardines, the penguins’ favorite food. Scientists and conservationists are pushing the South African government to close commercial fishing around the five African penguin breeding (繁殖) areas until populations recover. But without protection from rising temperatures, those efforts alone may not be enough. ceramic nests could help to give these beloved penguins a fighting chance.
28. What can we learn about African penguins from the passage?
A. They adapt well to high temperatures. B. They are mainly threatened by pollution.
C. They are suffering a lot from overheating. D. They have a population of three million.
29. Why is Bird Island important to African penguins?
A. It has a great many holes to lay eggs. B. It features the best climate.
C. It shelters a large penguin population. D. It holds more handmade nests.
30. What is the main function of the ceramic nest boxes?
A. To keep a cool environment for penguin eggs.
B. To provide a safe resting place for adult penguins.
C. To protect penguins and their eggs from natural enemies.
D. To provide man-made droppings for penguins to dig holes in.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. ceramic nest boxes alone can save the African penguins from extinction.
B. Protecting penguins’ food sources is as important as protecting their nests.
C. The authorities have closed fishing for penguin population recovery.
D. Rising temperatures are the biggest threat to African penguins at present.

根据文章第二段“Since then, many penguins have nested in the open, exposing their eggs and themselves to the burning heat.(从那以后,许多企鹅只能在露天筑巢,它们的卵和自身都暴露在酷热之下。)”以及第三段“Because penguins developed to keep heat in cold water, they can easily overheat on land. Typically, penguins leave their nests regularly to cool off in the sea. But without suitable holes, this leaves their eggs unprotected.(企鹅的身体结构本是为了在冷水中保存热量进化而来,因此它们在陆地上极易中暑。通常情况下,企鹅会频繁离开巢穴,前往海中降温。但如果没有合适的洞穴,它们的卵就会失去保护。)”可见它们正深受高温酷热的折磨。故选C。
29.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Over the past years, the team has put more than 1,500 handmade ceramic nest boxes in five areas where the penguins live, including Bird Island in Algoa Bay, South Africa, which is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining African penguins.(在过去数年里,该团队已在非洲企鹅的五个栖息地投放了1500多个手工制作的陶瓷巢箱,其中就包括南非阿尔戈阿湾的鸟岛——这里生活着全球现存近半数的非洲企鹅。)”可知,鸟岛是全球现存近半数非洲企鹅的栖息地,为大量企鹅提供了生存场所。故选C。
30.细节理解题。根据文章第五段““The nests are so useful,” says Welman, a zoologist, “Even if adults had to leave nests for some reason, their eggs would never be at any risk of overheating.”(动物学家Welman说:“这些巢箱特别实用,即便成年企鹅因某些原因不得不离开巢穴,它们的卵也绝不会面临任何中暑的风险。”)”可知,陶瓷巢箱的核心功能是为企鹅蛋营造凉爽的环境,避免其面临过热的风险,同时也能让成年企鹅居住得舒适。故选A。
31.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“The main threat to African penguins is over-hunting of anchovy and sardines, the penguins’ favorite food. Scientists and conservationists are pushing the South African government to close commercial fishing around the five African penguin breeding (繁殖) areas until populations recover. But without protection from rising temperatures, those efforts alone may not be enough.

Wearing noise-cancelling headphones (降噪耳机) to block out distractions has become increasingly common, especially among young people. However, recent studies suggest that the widespread use of these headphones has led to a significant rise in hearing issues. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the problem is not actually related to the ears but rather results from the brain.
This condition, known as Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), occurs when the brain has difficulty in processing sounds or words, distinguishing them from background noise, which makes it difficult for individuals to engage in conversations in social situations or clearly hear instructions at work or school. While APD has historically been linked to childhood brain injury, ear infections, or genetic factors, experts now suggest that the rise in noise-cancelling headphones may be contributing to the condition.
Although noise-cancelling headphones can be useful in protecting people from loud noises, experts believe they may untrain the brain’s ability to naturally block out background noise. Claire Benton from the British Academy of Audiology explained that by blocking everyday sounds like train noise or traffic, the brain might “forget” how to filter out distractions. It’s similar to relying too often on a crutch (拐杖) — just as leg muscles weaken from lack of use, constant use of noise-cancelling headphones may create an artificial environment, where the brain no longer practices filtering out distractions, making it harder to function naturally.
“Those complex, high-level listening skills in your brain don’t fully develop until your late teens. If you have only been wearing noise-cancelling headphones during this crucial period, you may be slightly delaying your ability to process speech and noise,” explained Claire Benton. “Therefore, using them in moderation and occasionally exposing yourself to natural environments can help maintain the brain’s auditory processing abilities. The key lies in balance — protecting your hearing from harmful noises while still giving your brain opportunities to exercise its natural filtering abilities.”
32. What do recent studies find about noise-cancelling headphones?
A. They are popular among young people.
B. They can lead to serious hearing damage.
C. They are more harmful than regular headphones.
D. They can weaken the brain’s ability to process sound.
33. How do people with APD typically behave?
A. They become intolerant of loud noises.
B. They constantly hear sounds in their ears.
C. They get easily distracted by background noises.
D. They struggle to distinguish sounds in noisy environments.
34. Why does the author mention “crutch” in paragraph 3?
A. To stress the risks of overusing noise-cancelling headphones.
B. To show the necessity of blocking out loud noises in daily life.
C. To state the reasons for inventing noise-cancelling headphones.
D. To explain the working principle of noise-cancelling headphones.
35. What does Claire Benton want to tell us in the last paragraph?
A. High-level listening skills are crucial for personal growth.
B. Noise-cancelling headphones bring long-lasting threat to people.
C. We should avoid relying too much on noise-cancelling headphones.
D. Natural background noise has a negative impact on brain development.

Scrolling through social media often makes us feel left behind by others’ seemingly perfect lives. While admiration for others’ achievements is natural, constant comparison can harm your confidence. Here are practical solutions:
____36____ It’s hard to compare yourself to others if you’re crystal clear about your personal values. For example, if family time matters most, don’t measure yourself against career-driven people. Write down what success means to you and revisit the list whenever envy strikes.
Replace comparison with curiosity. When seeing others’ achievements, ask “What skills can I learn from them?”. A classmate’s high scores could inspire better study methods rather than self-doubt. ____37____
Be selective about social media. Social media can be both a blessing (恩赐) and a curse, depending on how you use it. ____38____ Follow those sharing real struggles and positive messages instead. Taking care of what you see on social media can help keep you calm.
Set daily time limits for social media. ____39____ Activities like hiking, cooking with family, or quiet reading build real happiness that no “likes” can replace. Physical world connections reduce screen addiction.
Practice gratitude to break the comparison cycle. Each night, write three things you’re thankful for — a good grade, a friend’s kindness, or sunny weather. ____40____
Remember, someone else’s success doesn’t erase yours. Run your own race guided by your values. Start building mental strength today!

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Anna took her first baby-sitting job in Peter Smith’s and played games with Peter’s three children until the bedtime. Mr. Smith praised her for the great work. After Mrs. Smith had pressed the money into her hand, Anna didn’t even look at the money and then walked out of the house. She’d expected ten dollars. Now she saw that it was a one-hundred-dollar bill!
Anna imagined her parents’ faces when she handed them the one hundred dollars.
Things hadn’t been easy for Anna’s family since Anna’s dad had lost his engineering job a year ago. There had been no new clothes or movies in the last year. They no longer went out to eat on Fridays. Anna didn’t really mind, as long as her family was together. But now she could help. One hundred dollars! That was enough to fill the car with gas or to buy a bag of groceries.
Her excitement faded as she wondered if Mrs. Smith realized how much money she had given her. Could she have made a mistake? Anna felt bad as she remembered that Mrs. Smith had simply pulled the money from her purse without looking at it.
Anna thought, “Maybe Mrs. Smith meant to give me the one-hundred-dollar bill. Baby-sitting three children is a lot of work.” Soon Anna remembered that the Smiths didn’t seem to have much money, either. But, she silently argued with herself. “They gave me the money. I didn’t steal it.”
She found her parents in the living room. Anna took a deep breath and told them what had happened. “I wanted to give the money to you to help out the family, but I think Mrs. Smith made a mistake.” She continued. “I’m going to give it back to her.”
Dad settled his big hand on her shoulder. “You just gave us the best gift, Anna.” Mom kissed her. “We’re proud of you, sweetheart.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 左右:
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next morning, Anna went to Mrs. Smith’s house again.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mrs. Smith opened her purse and counted out ten dollars.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
The next morning, Anna went to Mrs. Smith’s house again. “I think you overpaid me last night,” she said and handed the one-hundred-dollar bill to her. Mrs. Smith looked surprised. “I didn’t know where that money had gone! I knew that I had put it in my purse. Then this morning, I couldn’t find it.” She started to cry. “It’s the last payment for something my husband needed. I made a mistake of giving you the one hundred dollars, but you are such an honest and kind girl that you did not keep it.”
Mrs. Smith opened her purse and counted out ten dollars. “I hope you’ll baby-sit for us again. Our children think you’re the best baby-sitter they’ve ever had, and so do I. I think they will be proud of having such a great sister to baby-sit them!” Anna said yes and went back home happily. When she gave her mother the ten dollars, the best gift for her, she felt very proud because she thought she did a great a job.
①开始:start to do/begin to do
②回家:go back home/return home
③需要:need/want
情绪类

D

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
A. Develop your own understanding of success.
B. Real fulfillment comes from offline experiences.
C. Establish measurable goals for self-development.
D. This mindset turns anxiety into chances for growth.
E. Social media requires strict time management strategies.
F. Unfollow accounts showing unrealistic beauty or wealth.
G. This simple habit trains your brain to focus on existing blessings.

第二节 (满分25分)

D
