题目①
Dear Chris,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling upset about your studies. I have been there too. I’d like to share my learning experience to help you.
In the past, I often found it hard to understand the lessons, and if something was too difficult, I didn’t dare to try. What’s worse, I grew to believe that I had no talent for some subjects and would never improve. As a result, my grades suffered and I ended up being more worried and unhappy about learning.
My teacher noticed and gave me some advice. Thanks to her suggestions, I began to take notes, highlighting key points and drawing circles to help me better understand the lessons. When difficulties came up, I wasn’t afraid anymore. Instead, I adopted a growth mindset, refusing to let failure stop me. Through these efforts, now I am more confident and have better grades.
From this experience, I have learned that it’s important to develop effective learning strategies and a growth mindset. Besides, never give up in the face of difficulties.
I hope my learning experience can be helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua
题目②
The world is facing different kinds of environmental problems. Air pollution is getting worse every day. People are cutting down trees, and households are wasting a lot of resources like water and electricity.
To help solve these problems, I take the following actions in my daily life. To reduce air pollution, I walk or ride my bike to school instead of taking cars. To save trees, I recycle paper rather than throwing it away. To cut down on waste, I turn off the lights when I’m not in the room. I also take short showers to save water.
These actions have brought positive changes. They have not only made my home cleaner but also inspired more people to join in. Little things can make a big difference. If everyone does their bit, our world will become a better place.

Earth Day Birthday
“I just want a normal birthday party,” April told Bailey as they walked home from school.
Bailey knew what April meant. April’s parents loved the environment. And because April happened to be born on Earth Day, all her parties had an Earth Day theme (主题). “Remember when you turned seven?” said Bailey.
“How could I forget the Throw-Out Blowout?” said April.
“We helped out at your yard sale and donated the money. And when you turned eight — ”
“It was a Tree Spree (玩乐),” finished April. “We planted apple trees.”
“Last year, we all collected newspapers to recycle,” said Bailey.
“My poor birthdays!” said April painfully. Bailey giggled (咯咯地笑). “I thought it was fun.”
Later that night, as April washed the dishes, she said, “I’d like to plan my own party this year.”
“Sure,” said Mom. “We could have a Compost Carnival (堆肥嘉年华).”
“Great idea!” said Dad.
April cleared her throat. “I’d like to go to Maze Craze instead.”
“Really?” said Dad, surprised.
“I guess we could do that,” said Mom.
At school the next day, April told her friends. “I’m having my birthday party at Maze Craze!”
“You are?” said Josie. “But we always do something earthy on your birthday.”
“This year, we’re not even going outside.” said April.
The following weekend, everyone gathered in the parking lot outside of Maze Craze. “Thanks for coming,” said April. “I’ve been so excited about my party. No shovels (铲子). No collecting recyclables. Nothing earthy about it.” She moved her feet. “Then I got here this morning and saw this parking lot.”
April’s friends looked around. Plastic bottles were on the ground. Newspapers and fast-food bags clogged (堵塞) the storm drain (排水管). Shopping bags were in the trees.
“Even though I wanted a non-Earth Day birthday, I couldn’t have fun knowing this mess was out here. Can we pick up the rubbish in the parking lot first, then go through the maze?”
“Of course!” said her friends. April’s parents took some gloves and trash bags from the trunk (后备箱) of their car.
Before long, they had filled three bags with bottles, cans, and paper to recycle.
April looked at the bags and smiled. It felt good to do something for the Earth.
“Happy Earth Day, everyone,” said April. “Now I’m ready for Maze Craze.”
“Happy birthday, April!” shouted her friends.
24. At first, how did April feel about having an Earth Day-themed birthday party every year?
A. Excited. B. Painful. C. Cool. D. Surprised.
25. What did April and her friends do before having her birthday party at Maze Craze?
A. They planted some trees in the garden.
B. They went to the zoo to see animals.
C. They played games at Maze Craze.
D. They did something earthy in the parking lot.
26. What made April smile and feel good in the end?
A. The place of the party. B. The best education from her parents.
C. The act of protecting the Earth. D. The help of her friends.

Bamboo is a common but truly amazing plant that grows widely in China. Many people don’t know it is not a tree, but a special kind of fast-growing grass. It grows much faster than common trees, with high strength and great flexibility (弹性). It is cheap, renewable and friendly to the Earth, so Chinese scientists are working hard to turn it into excellent new materials for large and important building projects all over the world.
Now, this strong green material has been used in many world-famous projects. We can find special engineered bamboo panels on the long scenic platforms of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. For six years, these panels have withstood (经受住,承受住) strong sunlight, heavy storms and terrible seawater corrosion (侵蚀), and they are still safe and strong as before. Chinese scientists and engineers also worked together to make the world’s largest curved (弯曲的) bamboo ceiling (天花板) at a major international airport in Spain, showing the power of Chinese bamboo technology to the world.
China has the largest bamboo forests on the planet, and it leads the whole world in bamboo planting and processing technology. Bamboo can take in nearly 50 percent more carbon dioxide than common trees, so it plays a key role in protecting the environment and fighting global warming. It is so strong that it can easily take the place of wood, plastic and even some steel (钢) in many daily and industrial (工业的) uses.
However, bamboo has clear weaknesses. It is rich in nutrients (养分), so it is easy to go bad outdoors. Its processing is also much more complex (复杂的) than wood. To solve these problems, a Chinese research team has spent over ten years developing clean, green processing technologies. They use special heat treatment to keep bamboo strong and long-lasting, and create safe, low-pollution glue (胶水) with no harmful chemicals. The treated bamboo can be used outdoors for many years without going bad.
Today, China is keeping its leading position in bamboo technology. Scientists are trying to develop smarter bamboo products, help set international industry standards (标准), and let this great green plant build a cleaner and better world for everyone.
27. What is the main reason why Chinese scientists try to develop bamboo into new building materials?
A. It has good physical qualities and a low cost, and it benefits the environment.
B. It can grow in a terrible living environment.
C. It symbolises the fighting spirit.
D. It is famous and loved by Chinese people.
28. What can you learn from the passage?
A. Bamboo is a kind of common tree with slow growth.
B. Engineered bamboo panels on the bridge break down easily.
C. Bamboo has completely taken the place of steel in the industrial field.
D. Advanced processing technology can greatly increase bamboo’s service life.
29. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. Magic Bamboo: A Common Plant in Spain
B. Amazing Bamboo: A Green Super Material from China
C. Special Bamboo: A Perfect Building Material with No Weaknesses
D. Great Bamboo: A Traditional Plant for Daily Use

High School’s Cellphone Ban (禁令): What Changes Has It Brought?
Ballard High School in Kentucky, US, has instituted (实施) a “bell-to-bell” cellphone ban this year. That means students cannot use their phones at all during class time, lunch breaks, or even between classes.
The ban has brought an unexpected change to the school library. In the first month of the new term, students checked out 67 percent more books than the same period last year: 533 books in August 2024, and 891 in August 2025.
Stephanie Conrad, the school’s librarian with 20 years of experience, was not fully surprised by the increase in book borrowing. She was excited to see the change.
“Before the ban, during short breaks, kids would lose themselves in their phones, like being in a silent cellphone cocoon (茧), without any communication with peers,” Conrad said. “Now, they’re talking to each other, not isolated (单独的) online. They even come to talk to me about the books they love, which I haven’t seen for years.”
However, not everyone supports the ban.
“At the beginning, I was skeptical,” said Kallie Vickers, a 10th-grader. She said she and her classmates became dependent on screens, and never fully learned how to manage their emotions. Phones used to be their distraction (娱乐) and comfort during breaks.
“Now, without that distraction, a lot of hyperactivity (过分活跃) comes out during class,” she said. Though she enjoys talking to friends more now, she believes kids need other outlets, like a free period, to replace the dopamine (多巴胺) they got from phones.
“It’s a big adjustment (调整) for kids,” said Jean Twenge, a psychology professor. She said it takes time for teens to get used to the ban, as they are so used to having phones at hand, and teens always want more independence and trust.
Still, Twenge strongly advocates (提倡) for bell-to-bell cellphone bans for academic (学术), social and mental health reasons. She also added that face-to-face talks at lunch help teens develop social skills, and less screen time brings mental health benefits. Many schools report fewer disciplinary (纪律的) problems after the ban.
Twenge said the dopamine withdrawal (戒断) kids are experiencing is part of the process. “You’re training your brain to live without phones for hours, to learn how to focus. It’s a really important skill for the future,” she said.
30. Why does the writer use the numbers of book checkout in Paragraph 2?
A. To introduce how famous the school library is among students.
B. To show the positive influence of the cellphone ban.
C. To explain why students love using cellphones.
D. To advise other schools to set up cellphone bans in libraries.
31. What does the word “skeptical” in Paragraph 6 most probably mean?
A. Confident. B. Quiet. C. Unlucky. D. Unbelieving.
32. Which of the following would Jean Twenge most probably agree with?
A. Cellphone bans have more disadvantages than advantages for teens.
B. Teens should learn new skills for the future without phones.
C. Bell-to-bell cellphone bans are good for teens’ growth.
D. Cellphones are the main reason for students’ poor grades.
33. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A. To call on schools to fight against cellphone bans.
B. To inform readers of the influence of the cellphone ban.
C. To warn readers of the harm of cellphones to teenagers’ studies.
D. To explain how to help students get used to life without cellphones.

How to Study Better, Not Harder
Do you ever feel like you spend hours studying, but your grades don’t improve? Or that your friend who crams (临时抱佛脚) the night before gets the same score as you, even though you studied for days? It can feel frustrating, but the problem isn’t you-it’s probably your study habits. Here are some simple ways to help you study faster and better.
First, cut down on sweets before tests. When you feel stressed about exams, you might want to eat candy or cookies. But too much sugar slows down your brain and makes it harder to focus. Instead, try nuts, fish, or berries. These foods help you stay focused and remember things better.
Second, change your mindset. Your thoughts have a big impact (冲击力) on how you study. If you keep saying, “This is so hard” or “I’ll never understand this,” you’ll probably feel stressed and give up. Try positive words instead: “I can finish this soon” or “This part is easy, I’ll get it done quickly.” Believing you can do well makes studying much easier.
Third, focus on your weak points. Many students like reviewing the material that they already know because it makes them feel good. But that won’t help you improve. Spend more time on topics you find difficult. Also, try to connect different subjects. If you learn how math relates to science, for example, you’ll remember both better.
Finally, learn exam patterns. Tests often follow similar rules. Understanding what teachers expect in answers and how they grade can help you prepare smarter, not harder.
With these tips, you don’t have to give up all your free time to get good grades. Study smart, and you’ll see progress without feeling tired all the time!
34. What foods help you stay focused and remember things better?
35. How will you probably feel if you keep saying “This is so hard”?
36. How should you focus on your weak points?
37. Which tips mentioned in the passage do you want to try? Why? (Please give two reasons.)
