Apart from water-splashing activities, dragon boat races and delicious local snacks are also important parts of the celebration.
Nadam Fair (the Mongolian people)
Held in summer, Nadam Fair is a grand traditional festival for Mongolians. Its highlight is three classic sports: horse racing, wrestling and archery. Visitors can enjoy exciting matches, folk songs and special mutton dishes. The festival expresses people’s best wishes for harvest and friendship.
Torch Festival (the Yi people)

When I was young, my mom often said she would be proud of me if I tried my hardest at school. But she also told me I didn’t do my best without full marks. I listened to her words carefully and wished everything to be perfect. Slowly, I turned into a perfectionist.
A perfectionist never wants any mistakes. Lots of kids today get great pressure from their parents. They lose confidence once they make small errors. I have had such an experience.
I used to feel sad even after winning many prizes. I won a school competition but got one question wrong, and I blamed myself a lot. I took third place in a game and got free movie tickets, yet I still thought I failed. I won first prize in a math test with 98 points, but I felt upset, thinking I could get 100.
My mind changed after I entered college. I made new friends. They could accept their own mistakes and treated them as chances to grow instead of failures. They let me learn a truth: no one is perfect. Making mistakes is common for everyone, and we can get the most useful lessons from our failures.
24. Why did the writer grow into a perfectionist?
A. Because of her mother’s words.
B. Because she hoped to win lots of prizes.
C. Because she knew the bad sides of perfectionism.
D. Because she always wanted high scores at school.
25. How did the writer feel when she won different prizes?
A. She was excited about the awards. B. She cared too much about prizes she got.
C. She felt pleased when she got the first prize. D. She was upset for not being perfect enough.
26. What caused the writer to change her idea about perfectionism?
A. Making open-minded friends. B. Suffering from endless pressure.
C. Giving up all difficult exams at school. D. Learning lessons from others’ mistakes.
27. Which magazine column is the text most suitable for?
A. Parenting tips. B. Growing-up stories.
C. Stories of successful people. D. Difficulties young people face.
C
People around the world express gratitude in very different ways. In many Western countries, people say “thank you” dozens of times each day. They mix up being polite with simply speaking polite words. They can’t tell the two ideas clearly apart and think they mean the same thing. For them, this short phrase is a basic part of good manners in daily life.
But are verbal (口头的) thanks always the most important? A recent study suggests not. Researchers looked at how people show appreciation in over ten countries. They found that in many cultures, gratitude is shown through actions, not words.
In China, people rarely say “thank you” at home. Instead, they might cook a meal, help with housework, or listen patiently. These quiet acts are seen as true care. Similarly, in some African communities, people show thanks by sharing food or working together.
Ideas about politeness also differ. In Australia, people think saying “thank you” makes relationships friendly and relaxed. In contrast, in parts of South Korea, too many polite words can feel distant. People prefer warm behavior over formal phrases.
Experts say there is no “right” way to give thanks. What matters is understanding cultural differences. Whether through words or actions, gratitude helps people build closer and happier relationships.
28. What does the underlined phrase “mix up” mean?
A. confuse two things B. tell two things apart
C. leave two things aside D. pick one of two things
29. Which statement is true according to the text?
A. Words work everywhere. B. No one uses polite words.
C. Actions show thanks widely. D. Western people are most polite.
30. Why are too many polite words unwelcome in South Korea?
A. They cause trouble. B. They bring distance.
C. They lack polite skills. D. They want to stay alone.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Actions beat all words. B. We must say “thank you”.
C. We should value cultural differences. D. Polite words will gradually disappear.
D
When we cut our fingers accidentally, most of us just put a band-aid on the wound. We think small cuts will heal soon without special medical help. However, this idea is not right for everyone.
Healthy teenagers and adults can repair small skin wounds by themselves quickly. But two kinds of people heal wounds much more slowly: old people and those who have high blood sugar. Their blood cannot run smoothly, so the injured skin is hard to get better. A group of scientists has found an easy new way to solve this problem.
Scientists send light weak electric signals to the injured part of the skin. In usual situations, skin cells move around freely with no fixed direction. But under soft electric influence, these cells head for the same place and close the cut quickly.
The scientists did lab tests to check this method. They grew skin cells in small boxes and made tiny cuts on them. The cells were separated into two groups. One group received the soft electric care, while the other got no treatment at all. The test result was clear: the treated wounds only needed one third of the time to heal completely.
Maria Asplund leads this research team. Her team has got money to do more tests on real skin cuts on human bodies. She says firmly, “I believe this electric way can bring good news to people whose wounds take a very long time to heal.” Besides, her team plans to watch how different skin cells react to electric signals, and they will make different treatment plans for different cuts.
32. Who can get great help from the new electric method?
A. People with high blood pressure. B. People with unusual skin diseases.
C. People with healthy bodies and small cuts. D. People with high blood sugar and the elderly.
33. How do electric signals speed up healing?
A. They clear dirty cells in cuts. B. They design personalized plans.
C. They guide cells to move orderly. D. They stop skin cells growing fast.
34. What is Maria’s attitude toward the electric treatment?
A. Hopeful. B. Worried. C. Doubtful. D. Uninterested.
35. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Electric Care for Elderly Patients B. Electric Therapy for Sugar Patients
C. Electric Tech Helps Wounds Heal Faster D. Electric Signals Treat Healthy Small Cuts

Linda loves drawing in her free time. One day, her teacher handed out notices of a weekend painting activity. She really wanted to join it. However, her close friend Kate would not take part in this activity.
Linda is a quiet girl. She does not feel relaxed when staying with people she does not know well. For this reason, she planned to give up the fun activity.
To cheer herself up, she went out to sketch (素描) the big pine tree beside her neighbor’s house. She focused all her attention on drawing the tree. Soon the neighbour Mr. Hill walked over and praised her nice work. He told her a little knowledge about pine trees: These trees spread their roots widely on the ground instead of growing deep down. They cannot grow strong if their roots are buried too deeply.
Linda stood there and thought carefully. Even a tree dares to stretch out (伸展) for better growth. Why couldn’t she make a change and be braver?

【原文】My topic is about how you can use colors to organize your homework. To start with, you need a few things from the stationer’s. This photo shows the things I use. I’ve got colored pens, pencils, sticky notes and glue. I choose a different color for each school subject. The color I choose has to be easy to remember, so I make sure it means something to me. Math is green because my ruler is green. PE is yellow because my sports shoes are yellow. Here is a photo of my folders. I keep all my notes inside the different folders. This is a photo of some sticky notes. The blue notes are for history, as my history teacher, Mr. Brown, has a blue car! The black notes are for geography because I always want to visit the Black Sea. Finally, this last photo shows my wall calendar. This green star shows I have a math test on Friday. This pink circle shows I must hand in French homework by Monday. It’s pink because “rose” means “pink” in French and the rose is my favorite flower. Has anyone got any questions?

【答案】24. A 25. D 26. A 27. B

【答案】28. A 29. C 30. B 31. C
【解析】
【导语】文章主要讲述不同文化中表达感恩的方式存在差异。
【28题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第一段中“They mix up being polite with simply speaking polite words. They can’t tell the two ideas clearly apart and think they mean the same thing.(他们把“心怀礼貌的素养”和“单纯说客套话”mix up,没法清晰区分这两个概念,还认为二者的含义完全相同。)”可知,他们认为二者的含义完全相同,该短语表示把两件事混淆。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“They found that in many cultures, gratitude is shown through actions, not words.(他们发现在许多文化中,感恩是通过行动而非言语来表达的。)”可知,用行动表达感恩的方式十分普遍。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“In contrast, in parts of South Korea, too many polite words can feel distant.(相比之下,在韩国部分地区,过多的礼貌用语会让人产生疏远感。)”可知,过多礼貌用语会带来距离感。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Experts say there is no “right” way to give thanks. What matters is understanding cultural differences.(专家表示表达感恩没有“正确”方式,关键是理解文化差异。)”可知,我们应当重视文化差异。
【答案】32. D 33. C 34. A 35. C

A group of scientists has found an easy new way to solve this problem.( 但有两类人群的伤口愈合速度要慢得多:老年人以及血糖偏高的患者。
根据第三段“Scientists send light weak electric signals to the injured part of the skin. In usual situations, skin cells move around freely with no fixed direction. But under soft electric influence, these cells head for the same place and close the cut quickly.( 科学家向受损的皮肤部位发送微弱的电信号。在正常情况下,皮肤细胞可以自由移动,没有固定方向。但在微弱的电影响下,这些细胞会朝同一方向移动,从而迅速闭合伤口。)”可知,正常状态下皮肤细胞自由移动、方向不定,而在微弱电场作用下,细胞会朝同一方向移动,快速闭合伤口,即电信号起到了引导细胞有序移动的作用。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“She says firmly, “I believe this electric way can bring good news to people whose wounds take a very long time to heal.” Besides, her team plans to watch how different skin cells react to electric signals, and they will make different treatment plans for different cuts.( 她坚定地说:“我相信这种电疗法能够为那些伤口愈合极慢的人带来好消息。”此外,她的团队还计划观察不同皮肤细胞对电信号的反应,并针对不同切口制定不同的治疗方案。)”可推知,玛丽亚对该疗法持乐观、充满期待的态度。
【35题详解】

【答案】 The Value of Money
Money plays an essential role in our daily lives. It enables us to purchase basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter, allowing us to lead a stable and comfortable life.
However, money is far from everything. While it can buy material goods and expensive gifts, it can never buy true friendship, sincere love or good health — things that are truly priceless and cannot be measured in dollars and cents. These intangible treasures are what make life rich and meaningful.
In my opinion, we should adopt a balanced attitude towards money. We work hard to earn it, but we should never let it take control of our lives.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下开头续写两段,在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The next weekend, Linda stepped into the painting activity with great courage.

【答案】 His words gave Linda a new idea. It suddenly struck her that she ought to be as tough and brave as the pine tree, plucking up the courage to walk out of her narrow comfort zone. She realized that her endless shyness was just a barrier stopping her from chasing her love for painting. Standing before the tall pine, she took a deep breath and told herself not to back down any longer. After hesitating for a short while, she turned around, rushed home and made up her mind to sign up for the painting activity without Kate’s company.
The next weekend, Linda stepped into the painting activity with great courage. Surrounded by lots of unfamiliar faces, her hands shook slightly and she felt extremely nervous at first. Luckily, all the participants were warm-hearted and shared the same love for drawing. They chatted about painting skills and created works side by side. Little by little, her anxiety faded away, and she fully immersed herself in drawing. This unforgettable experience made her much braver, and she was truly grateful for Mr. Hill’s meaningful words that changed her mind.
