It is known for its artist community, seaside village, atmosphere and beautiful beaches. Much of the town’s beauty is natural. You can see giant blue whales rise onto the sea’s surface in summer and fall. In the winter season, you can explore the galleries and cafes along the seaside streets. You can also get close to the local wildlife in the Pacific Ocean Park. This is where injured sea lions that were rescued off the region’s beaches are cared for before being returned to the wild. The small, family-friendly park, which opened in the 1970s, was the first of its kind in California. And entrance is free. Every summer, the town hosts many popular events. The Festival of Arts is one of them, featuring not only the paintings of over 100 local artists, but also live music. Its sister event, the Pageant of the Masters, even provides attractive outdoor guided tours.

Last summer, I was lucky enough to be part of an international student exchange program. I was sent to a small town in India for two weeks. Little did I know that this short stay would open my eyes to a world of diverse cultures and leave me with memories that would last a lifetime.
The town was preparing for a famous local festival called Holi when I arrived. People were busy buying colored powders, preparing traditional sweets, and decorating the streets. Holi is a festival of colors, joy, and love. It celebrates the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil.
On the day of the festival, I woke up early to the sound of music and laughter. When I stepped outside, the whole town seemed to be in a frenzy of celebration. People of all ages were running around, throwing colored powders at each other. At first, I was a bit hesitant to join in, as I wasn’t familiar with the customs. But a kind-hearted local girl named Priya came up to me, took my hand, and pulled me into the crowd. She taught me how to play Holi safely and explained the meaning behind every tradition.
As the day went on, I found myself covered from head to toe in bright colors. I was laughing and playing with people I had just met, forgetting all about the cultural differences that initially made me feel nervous. We shared stories about our countries, our families, and our dreams. I learned about Indian history, their unique art forms, and their deep-rooted values. In return, I told them about my hometown, the festivals we celebrate, and the food we love.
One of the most memorable moments was when we all sat together in the evening, sharing traditional Indian food. The spices, the flavors, and the way the food was prepared were so different from what I was used to, but I loved every bite of it. Through this experience, I realized that cultural differences are not barriers but bridges that connect us. They make the world a more interesting and beautiful place. When I left India, I carried with me not only colorful memories but also a newfound appreciation for the diversity of cultures around the world.
24. Why was the author sent to India?
A. To celebrate Holi with family.
B. To study Indian history.
C. To learn Indian art forms.
D. To take part in an exchange program.
25. The underlined word “frenzy” in Paragraph 3 probably means ______
A. calm state B. wild excitement
C. low movement D. quiet atmosphere
26. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The author didn’t enjoy the Indian food.
B. Holi is only celebrated by young people in India.
C. The author was afraid of the local people at first.
D. The author’s attitude towards cultural differences changed after the experience.
27. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. To introduce the festival of Holi in India.
B. To show the author’s love for Indian art forms.
C. To describe the traditional Indian food.
D. To tell the story of the author’s experience in India and the understanding of cultural diversity.

Hailey Magee rushed home from school crying after seeing that she’d received an A-minus on her grade report card. Growing up she had learned that the way to receive recognition and love from family members and teachers was to be a high achiever. So to Magee, that A-minus felt like a failure. “I was heart-broken,” she said. “In that moment, I felt like my self-worth as a human had fallen far below what it would have been if I’d gotten an A or an A-plus.”
Magee’s turning a good grade into a cause of her inferiority (自卑) is a textbook example of a growing trend in recent years: Perfectionist behavior. Perfectionism (完美主义) is now a growing cultural phenomenon. High levels of perfectionism were linked with depression, anxiety, eating disorders and self-harm. The constant stress of attempting to be perfect can also leave people stressed and suffering from headaches and insomnia.
Many parents today feel a sense of competitiveness that they may push onto their kids, whether by pressuring them to get perfect grades so they can get into top schools or engaging them in after-school activities that might look good on a college application. But if a child is only rewarded for high achievement, over time they learn that their value as a person depends on being perfect. Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms also increase unhealthy comparisons.
“It’s a real problem — those social media images end up serving as standards that people can compare themselves to and a perfectionist is always trying to be as good as others,” Sherry, a clinical psychologist, said. And it’s never been harder to keep up with other people, because today we are constantly bombed with seemingly perfect images of other peoples’ lives. Eventually Magee learned that she had to let go a little and allow herself to show up with all her imperfections. She eventually learned to trust that she could show up, not being perfect, and still feel valued. She said, “I can be imperfect and everything can be fine!”
32. How did Hailey Magee feel when she got an A-minus?
A. Satisfied. B. Excited. C. Disappointed. D. Uninterested.
33. Perfectionism may result in the following problems EXCEPT _________.
A. negative feelings B. high work efficiency
C. increased stress levels D. physical problems
34. What does the underlined phrase “a sense of competitiveness” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. A strong wish to be better than others. B. A great pressure to get perfect grades.
C. A feeling of being judged on social media. D. A belief that top schools are the most important.
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Parental Pressure: The Root of All Student Anxiety
B. Hailey Magee’s Story: From Straight A’s to Failure
C. The Role of Social Media in Creating Feelings of Imperfection
D. The Dangers of Perfectionism and the Road to Self-Acceptance
C 33. B 34. A 35. D
根据第一段“Hailey Magee rushed home from school crying after seeing that she’d received an A-minus on her grade report card.(海莉·麦吉在学校看到自己成绩单上得了A-后,哭着冲回了家)”可知,Hailey Magee哭着跑回家,可推知,Hailey Magee感到失望。
根据第二段“High levels of perfectionism were linked with depression, anxiety, eating disorders and self-harm. The constant stress of attempting to be perfect can also leave people stressed and suffering from headaches and insomnia.(高度的完美主义与抑郁、焦虑、进食障碍以及自伤行为有关。不断追求完美的压力还可能导致人们感到紧张,出现头痛和失眠等问题)”可推断出,完美主义会导致压力增加、负面情绪和身体健康问题,但不会提高工作效率,因此选项B“高工作效率”不属于完美主义导致的问题。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“whether by pressuring them to get perfect grades so they can get into top schools or engaging them in after-school activities that might look good on a college application(他们要么逼迫孩子取得完美成绩以进入顶尖学校,要么让孩子参加课外活动,以为这些能提升大学申请的竞争力)”可知,第三段家长逼迫孩子考高分、参加加分活动,是总想胜过别人的竞争心态。
根据第二段“Magee’s turning a good grade into a cause of her inferiority (自卑) is a textbook example of a growing trend in recent years: Perfectionist behavior. Perfectionism (完美主义) is now a growing cultural phenomenon. High levels of perfectionism were linked with depression, anxiety, eating disorders and self-harm. The constant stress of attempting to be perfect can also leave people stressed and suffering from headaches and insomnia.(麦吉将取得好成绩变成自己自卑的原因,是近年来一种日益普遍趋势的典型例子:完美主义行为。

故填a。
故填what。

故填more。

故填to prevent。

My dad's life seemed typical of his generation. He graduated from high school during the Depression and worked for a large company. He enlisted (入伍) in 1941, served in the Pacific and Europe.
On returning, he met my mother, married and had three children. Because of the job, he needed to continue his education. With his full-time job and attending to his family, he attended college in the evening and obtained his degree.
As kids, we knew what Dad told us. During cold winters he sympathized with unfortunate kids in just T-shirt and shorts. He was saddened by children with nothing under the Christmas tree. He loved kids and schools and he wanted to spread kindness to everyone in need of help, so he was always ready to give a hand to people he met.
With us three kids on our own. Dad and Mom retired and came to Florida. Two years later Mom died, in 1980. From that time. Dad got into the habit of walking around his house. He also tried golf but failed to become addicted to it. Although it was hard time for Dad, he didn't give up the hope of life. He decided to do something meaningful to society.
Then he saw an ad requesting literacy (读写能力) volunteers. Dad helped some children, who were homeless learn to read and write. He also helped an old man learn to read because his literate wife was going blind. He told us he even wanted to be a teacher to help more people.
As time passed, Dad had some health problems. His legs became weak and he started to have trouble in sleeping. My brother, my younger sister and I came to look after him, telling him to stop doing the volunteer work and have a rest at home. However, he was so stubborn that he disagreed with us and insisted on his decision.

A possible version
Before long, Dad made his dream come true. As it happened, a teacher who lived near Dad's home resigned. The school needed someone to help teach students. Dad realized it was time to take action. He began work as a teacher's assistant in a third grade class, helping children with spelling and grading papers. He spent a lot of time with the students, playing games and singing songs with them. As a result, all the students like getting along with him.
One year later, something surprising happened. Dad's physical condition turned better. He explained to me that the students kept him healthy. He said every time he stayed with the children, he moved and smiled a lot, which made him feel energetic and happy. Seeing Dad was satisfied with life, I learned a lesson: Our value shouldn't be limited by the face and age, but it should depend on what we can do for others.
