Every time I look up with the stars, I wonder about all the worlds beyond our own. Imagine there are billions of stars, each with the possibility of having planets like earth. But the night I was ready to view IT with my telescope, the weather wasn't good. IT was very disappointing. But that's part of being a scientist. You never know what surprises the universe will bring you. The sky is filled with endless wonders, and i'll continue my study of IT. To see Garnett Puett’s latest sculpture at the Hammer Museum, you have to enter a dark room protected by a series of heavy curtains. Inside, glowing red light lights up a glass cage. Within the cage are three human figures with a large group of insects crawling over them. The bees move slowly over the faces of the figures. The colony of bees is so thick in places that it looks like fur (毛皮) growing on the statue-fur that moves.
“Woah.” “I’ve never seen.” Visitors say as they enter the silent room.
Puett has been making his “apisculptures”, using metal, beeswax (蜂蜡) and colonies of live bees, for four decades now. It’s art with a purpose: Puett wants to remind viewers of the power and creativity of bees, whose survival is under threat around the world. “It’s sort of subconscious advertising,” Puett said. ‘‘Bees are good.”
In the 1980s, when Puett’s bee sculptures first became an art world hit, people just thought he was a guy playing with bees. Actually, his use of bees came from a deep family tradition. He grew up as a fourth-generation beekeeper, whose family had worked with bees since the 1700s. His great-grandfather raised queen bees, passing the business down to his son and grandson. Puett worked on those farms as a teenager, starting with the simplest tasks. His bee farm experience has resulted in precision in the art he makes with bee colonies.
In the four decades since the eco-artist withdrew somewhat from the art world, he moved to Hawaii, where he and his family have spent three decades running an organic honey farm. The work is challenging and labor intensive. That work has put him on the frontlines of dealing with threats to bee populations. Foreign species have killed numerous bees on his family’s farm, shrinking the number of surviving beehives (蜂巢) from 4,000 to about 2,000 in the past 15 years.
“People used to call me up really mad saying words I can’t repeat if the hives were bothering them,” related Puett with a laugh. “But since we lost half the bee population within two years, people are more aware of their importance and are far more understanding and appreciative. That’s been the one bright side to all this difficulty.”
24.What do visitors think of Puett’s bee sculpture?
A.It is controversial. B.It is revolutionary.
C.It is innovative. D.It is educational.
25.Why did Puett make his “apisculptures”?
A.To commercialize bee products.
B.To advocate for bees through art.
C.To offer a shelter for threatened bees.
D.To illustrate a new method of sculpture.
26.What does the author intend to do in paragraph 4?
A.Introduce the background of the bee art.
B.Summarize the history of beekeeping.
C.Provide bee-themed activities for kids.
D.Add four generations under one roof.
27.What is the best title for the text?
A.Garnett Puett: A Life Devoted to Beekeeping
B.Bee Sculptures: Art with a Message for Survival
C.The Threatened Bees: Call for Immediate Protection
D.The Apisculptures: From Tradition to Innovation
【答案】24.C 25.B 26.A 27.B
根据第一段中的“Within the cage are three human figures with a large group of insects crawling over them. The bees move slowly over the faces of the figures. The colony of bees is so thick in places that it looks like fur (毛皮) growing on the statue-fur that moves.(笼子里有三个人形雕像,一大群昆虫在它们身上爬来爬去。蜜蜂在雕像的面庞上缓缓移动。在某些地方,蜂群如此密集,看起来就像雕像身上长出的会动的“毛皮”。)”以及第二段中的““Woah.” “I’ve never seen.” Visitors say as they enter the silent room.(“哇哦。”“我从没见过(这样的景象)。”游客们走进这间静谧的房间时说道。)”可知,参观者从未见过以活蜜蜂为创作元素的雕塑作品,对这种新颖的艺术形式感到惊叹,这体现出他们认为该作品极具创新性。
25.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“It’s art with a purpose: Puett wants to remind viewers of the power and creativity of bees, whose survival is under threat around the world. “It’s sort of subconscious advertising,” Puett said. ‘‘Bees are good.”(这是有目的的艺术创作:Puett希望借此提醒观众关注蜜蜂的力量与创造力,毕竟蜜蜂在全球范围内的生存正面临威胁。“这算是一种潜意识宣传,”Puett说道,“意在传达“蜜蜂是有益的”。”)”可知,Puett创作蜜蜂雕塑的核心目的是通过艺术形式倡导人们关注蜜蜂、重视蜜蜂的生存现状。
26.主旨大意题。根据第四段中的“In the 1980s, when Puett’s bee sculptures first became an art world hit, people just thought he was a guy playing with bees. His bee farm experience has resulted in precision in the art he makes with bee colonies.(20世纪80年代,Puett的蜜蜂雕塑首次在艺术界引起轰动,当时人们只觉得他是个摆弄蜜蜂的人。
通读全文,尤其是第三段“Puett has been making his “apisculptures”, using metal, beeswax (蜂蜡) and colonies of live bees, for four decades now. It’s art with a purpose: Puett wants to remind viewers of the power and creativity of bees, whose survival is under threat around the world. “It’s sort of subconscious advertising,” Puett said.
C
Have you ever wished you could save a fantastic dream and watch it like a movie? Scientists are now working to make this a reality. A recent study presented at a major science conference claims that researchers are developing technology to “read” and reconstruct the visual content of dreams. Using a combination of brain scanning and artificial intelligence, the system attempts to decode brainwave patterns recorded while a person sleeps and translate them into simple images or videos.
The concept is fascinating, but the technology is still in its early stages. Current methods require people to sleep inside large, expensive MRI (磁共振成像) machines. The process is slow, and the reconstructed images are often blurry and limited to basic shapes. However, the high cost, complexity, and invasive nature of the equipment are the main reasons why this technology is far from being a common household device. Widespread use would require much smaller, cheaper, and more user-friendly sensors.
Despite the challenges, researchers remain optimistic about the long-term potential. The ability to access our dreams could open entirely new fields. For instance, the lead scientist on the project suggests that one practical application could be in mental health therapy. By visualizing a patient’s recurring nightmares, therapists could gain a powerful tool to help treat conditions like PTSD It could also serve as a new wellspring of creativity, allowing artists and writers to directly capture ideas from their subconscious minds.
The journey to a perfect dream recorder is long, and ethical questions about privacy must be addressed. Yet, the progress so far paints a future where the mysterious inner cinema of our sleep might not be so private after all.
28.What is the main topic of the first paragraph?
A.The high cost of new medical equipment.
B.A scientific effort to reconstruct dreams using technology.
C.The reasons why people often forget their dreams.
D.The best methods for improving sleep quality.
29.What is a key reason why the technology is not widely used now?
A.Scientists are not interested in developing it further.
B.The required equipment is too costly and inconvenient.

根据第一段“Have you ever wished you could save a fantastic dream and watch it like a movie? Scientists are now working to make this a reality. A recent study presented at a major science conference claims that researchers are developing technology to “read” and reconstruct the visual content of dreams. Using a combination of brain scanning and artificial intelligence, the system attempts to decode brainwave patterns recorded while a person sleeps and translate them into simple images or videos.( 你是否曾渴望能够将一个美妙的梦保存下来,并像观看电影一样细细品味它呢?科学家们正在努力将这一愿望变为现实。在一次重要的科学会议上展示的一项最新研究称,研究人员正在开发一种技术,能够“读取”并重建梦境中的视觉内容。通过结合脑部扫描和人工智能,该系统试图解析人在睡眠时记录下来的脑电波模式,并将其转化为简单的图像或视频。)”可知,第一段围绕“科学家研发技术读取并重建梦境视觉内容”展开,是该段的核心主题。
29.细节理解题。根据第二段中“However, the high cost, complexity, and invasive nature of the equipment are the main reasons why this technology is far from being a common household device.( 然而,设备的高昂成本、复杂性和侵入性是这项技术远未成为常见家庭设备的主要原因。)”

Three decades ago a famous study of Danish twins found that our genes “only moderately” influence how long we’re likely to live. Longevity, the authors estimated, was about 25 percent heritable (可遗传的), meaning the remaining three quarters was determined by environmental factors and lifestyle choices, such as diet and exercise. Most subsequent studies found heritability to be somewhere in the 20 to 25 percent range, and 25 percent is now widely accepted. But a new study more than doubles it, suggesting lifespan may be more genetically fixed than we thought.
The study, which was published today in Science, arrives at this dramatic increase by reframing how scientists think about longevity. Rather than putting all deaths together, the researchers distinguished between two kinds: “intrinsic mortality (内在死亡率) ”comes from built-in biological aging processes and genetic changes, whereas “extrinsic mortality” comes from outside causes, such as accidents and infection.
When they dialed extrinsic mortality down to zero, leaving only deaths caused by intrinsic aging processes, lifespan heritability roughly doubled. Surprised, the team checked their findings in another way — the researchers calculated heritability in the traditional way for twins born between 1900 and 1935, an era when rapid medical advances steadily curtailed premature death. From one generation to the next, Alon says, “they have lower and lower extrinsic mortality, and we see that their heritability goes up and up.” Taken together, the results indicate that intrinsic lifespan — how long a person lives if they don’t die of an external cause — is about55 percent heritable.
Most of us are unlikely to break 100 without the right set of genes — or at least drugs designed to copy their beneficial effects. Until such treatments become available, though, a healthy lifestyle remains the best path to living longer. Even if exercise, sleep and a balanced diet only contribute 45 percent to lifespan, evidence shows they can still add 10 years or more to a person’s life. “Those things will be helpful,” Milman says, “irrespective of your genetic makeup.”
32.What was the traditional view on the genetic influence on lifespan?
A.It was the most important factor. B.It accounted for about a quarter.
C.It was impossible to measure accurately. D.It was completely determined by lifestyle.
33.How did the new study achieve a different estimate of lifespan heritability?
A.By focusing on the lifespan data of Danish twins.
B.By studying a much larger and more diverse population.
C.By using more advanced and accurate genetic sequencing technology.
D.By separating deaths of internal aging from those of external causes.
34.What does the word “curtailed” in paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A.Reduced. B.Recorded. C.Dominated. D.Enhanced.
35.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.Genetics is everything for longevity.
B.Healthy habits are useless for those with bad genes.
C.Lifestyle choices remain highly valuable for everyone.
D.We should wait for new genetic therapies.
【答案】32.B 33.D 34.A 35.C
根据第一段“Most subsequent studies found heritability to be somewhere in the 20 to 25 percent range, and 25 percent is now widely accepted.(随后的大多数研究发现,遗传率在20%到25%之间,25%现在已被广泛接受。)”
根据第二段“Rather than putting all deaths together, the researchers distinguished between two kinds: ‘intrinsic mortality (内在死亡率)’ comes from built-in biological aging processes and genetic changes, whereas ‘extrinsic mortality’ comes from outside causes, such as accidents and infection.(研究人员没有将所有死亡归为一类,而是区分了两种死亡:‘内在死亡率’来自内在的生物衰老过程和基因变化,而‘外在死亡率’来自外部原因,如事故和感染。)”
根据划线词上文“an era when rapid medical advances(在那个年代,医疗技术飞速进步)”和下文“From one generation to the next, Alon says, “they have lower and lower extrinsic mortality, and we see that their heritability goes up and up.”(阿隆表示,一代又一代人下来,“人们的外在死亡率越来越低,而寿命遗传率也随之越来越高。”)”
根据最后一段“Until such treatments become available, though, a healthy lifestyle remains the best path to living longer.(不过,在这种治疗出现之前,健康的生活方式仍然是延长寿命的最佳途径。)”
We all know the phrase “I love you just the way you are”, but few of us truly understand its meaning — the meaning of unconditional love. It’s a beautiful concept we often hear in movies and songs, yet its true essence remains unclear to many. Does it mean loving someone no matter what they say or do?
It’s easy to love young children unconditionally, as they are gentle and lovely. They haven’t learned to talk back or make mistakes, and they still love being around their parents. 36 They’re subject to a stormy sea of mood swings and prefer to hang out with friends rather than spend time at home.
37 In the early days of a new relationship, every little thing they do fills you with butterflies and a sense of love that seems to last forever. Fast forward five years, ten years, twenty years and that feeling of love will be entirely different. At this time, unconditional love needs to be practiced rather than just said.
In fact, unconditional love doesn’t go anywhere; it just becomes less accessible in stress or conflict. It stays deep in our hearts, even when negative emotions cloud our judgment. 38 The core of the person you loved hasn’t changed.
Practicing unconditional love means seeing both their best and worst and loving them anyway. It’s not about ignoring flaws (缺点) but embracing the whole person. You can’t focus on the flaws that you perceive in them. 39
When conflicts happen, shift your perspective from your own feelings to theirs. It is vital to step into their shoes and sense their inner struggles and emotions. 40 In this way, you can reconnect with the deep love that has always been there.
A.Love comes easy when life goes well.
B.The same is true for romantic partners.
C.But when they become teenagers, things change.
D.Unconditional love means accepting without limits.
E.Ask yourself how they feel and what makes them upset.
F.Instead, value their positive qualities and accept their true selves.
G.The person you fell in love with years ago is still the same at heart.
【答案】36.C 37.B 38.G 39.F 40.E

40.上文“When conflicts happen, shift your perspective from your own feelings to theirs. It is vital to step into their shoes and sense their inner struggles and emotions.(当冲突发生时,将你的视角从自己的感受转向他们的感受。设身处地地体会他们内心的挣扎和情绪至关重要)”建议在冲突中换位思考,E选项“Ask yourself how they feel and what makes them upset.(问问自己他们感觉如何,是什么让他们感到不安)”承接上文,具体说明了换位思考时可以问自己的问题;下文“In this way, you can reconnect with the deep love that has always been there.(通过这种方式,你可以重新与那始终存在的深爱建立连接)”中的“this way”指代E选项中的换位思考行为,上下文逻辑连贯。

One possible version:
Sports Light Up Growth
To me, sports are far more than medals and races, but a warm lesson on growth, a lesson I learned firsthand from the 4×400m relay at our school sports meet last month.
What touched me most was that we insisted on including my deskmate, who had a mild leg injury, in the team rather than replacing him to seek for a higher rank. We adjusted our relay order, trained with him after class, and cheered him on through every single step of the race.
Though we won no prize, I realized the true meaning of sports: they nurture unity, respect and courage, always lighting up our way of growth.

Sumi was a single mother. Her daughter Anna has always been called “Number 23.” Every time the school released exam results, Anna would always end up in 23rd position among 50 pupils. Always 23, no matter how hard she pushed Anna. Every mention of this nickname gnawed at Sumi.
One day, Sumi, along with Anna, was invited to a lively gathering of several friends and their families. The atmosphere was delightful and as the lunch came to a finish, a man playfully asked the youngsters what they aspired (有志成为) to be when they grew up. “I want to be a pianist!” “I want to be a famous actor!” “I want to be a politician!” “I’ll start a business and make tons of money!” One after another, the children voiced these bold, ambitious dreams, earning warm applause and compliments from the adults.
Anna, however, simply smiled and clapped along, remaining silent. She was quietly occupied with serving soup and distributing cookies to the guests. Then, the man who had posed the question turned his gaze toward Anna and added, “Hey, our Anna hasn’t shared her dream yet. What do you want to be when you grow up?” Anna paused, and then, with a soft smile, replied, “Uncle, I want to be a primary school teacher. I love kids — telling them funny stories and teaching them how to make paper cuts. I just love dancing and singing and playing with them.” The room fell instantly silent. Sumi felt her heart sink.
Later, boarding a rented bus for the return trip, Sumi stared out the window, a heavy cloud of disappointment settling over her. She had hoped Anna would dream bigger, not settle for such an ordinary life. As traffic thickened, the bus got stuck in a jam. Suddenly, two boys erupted into a full-blown quarrel over a single slice of dessert. No one could calm them down. To make matters worse, more kids on the bus began to get restless due to the jam.
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: At that critical moment, Anna stepped in.

Paragraph 2: Sumi excitedly called Anna a hero, but she shook her head gently.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At that critical moment Anna stepped in. Approaching the quarreling boys with a calm smile, she suggested they flip a coin to settle their dispute. Simple as that, the argument ended. Everyone was stunned. Then, she began distributing treats like a caring big sister, instantly soothing the restless children. Making use of leftover candy boxes, she folded intricate paper animals — elephants, lions, and birds — and presented them to each child on the bus. The children’s eyes sparkled with joy as they admired their unique gifts, their cries replaced by laughter. The man who had asked about their dreams earlier watched in astonishment, clapping appreciatively. As for Sumi, a new emotion warmed her chest: pride.
Sumi excitedly called Anna a hero, but she shook her head gently. She grinned and replied softly, “Mom, I’m not a hero. When a hero walks down the road, everyone claps, but I want to be the one clapping for others.” That simple answer shifted something deep within Sumi. She realized she had always pushed Anna to achieve, shine, and be number one, yet she had missed the point. Being kind, happy, and true to oneself was the real achievement. Perhaps being “Number 23” wasn’t terrible after all; it was exactly where Anna was meant to shine. A tear of joy rolled down Sumi’s cheek as she wrapped her arm around her daughter’s shoulder. “Then be that teacher, my Anna. I shall be your loudest admirer.”

C.People are worried about having no dreams at all.
D.The AI used is not intelligent enough to draw pictures.
30.What is the author’s attitude towards the technology ?
A.Doubtful and critical.
B.Uninterested and bored.
C.Cautious but hopeful.
D.Completely negative.
31.According to the text, how might the technology help people?
A.By allowing people to sleep less every night.
B.By providing a new tool for mental health treatment.
C.By replacing all traditional forms of entertainment.
D.By making brain scanning machines a household item.
D
