The new Netflix documentary Seaspiracy highlights the damaging effects of fishing on the world's oceans. The documentary is narrated and directed by British filmmaker Ali Tabrizi as he discovers fishing to be the ocean's biggest threat.
While perhaps produced with good intentions, Seaspiracy fails to provide a critical angle to the problems it unveils.Instead, the film tries to encourage anger. Still, many disturbed viewers are taking the bait(诱饵) and announcing plans to stick to the film's call to action: to stop eating fish. But Seaspiracy's use of lies and half-truths may ultimately set the ocean conservation movement backward for the sake of attention.
Seaspiracy presents information at a pace too fast to fully grasp, let alone critically evaluate. The film's “just trust me” attitude runs against today's culture of facts, science, and truth. Yet many who watch appear all-in on Seaspiracy's tale: Everything you know about the seafood industry is a lie. Even well-known environmentalists and conservation organizations have expressed support for Seaspiracy despite holding themselves to higher standards of scientific accuracy and inclusive solution building. Why support a documentary that does not take much care in painting an accurate portrait of the oceans nor the best way to help protect them?
Perhaps for them, the cost-benefit analysis came out in favor of supporting the film. Even if it's full of lies and half-truths, maybe the documentary is still good overall if it introduces people to ocean issues and inspires a desire to make a difference.
Yet, a few ocean-focused non-profits may be supporting the documentary out of fear. Seaspiracy successfully painted a number of non-profits unfavorably. The film implies the Plastic Pollution Organization is hiding the amount of plastic fishing gear(设备) that ends up in the ocean. The film states fishing gear is a leading cause of plastic pollution in many parts of the ocean. While fishing gear does contribute to ocean plastic, it only accounts for about 10% of all plastic in the ocean.
8. What is Seaspiracy mainly about?
A. What to do to prevent fishing. B. How to develop fishing industry.
C. How fishing damages the oceans. D. What bad effects fish have on the oceans.
9. Why do famous environmentalists support Seaspiracy?
A. They think it is at least educational.
B. They can earn some money by doing so.
C. They think it is full of lies and half-truths.
D. They have higher standards of scientific accuracy.
10. What is the author’s general attitude towards Seaspiracy?
A. Critical. B. Cautious. C. Supportive. D. Contradictory.
11. Why does the author mention “fishing gear” in the last paragraph?
A. To explain a rule. B. To clarify a point.
C. To solve a problem. D. To make a prediction.

I had the meanest mother in the world. While other kids ate candy for breakfast, I had to have cereal, eggs and toast. Others had cakes and candy for lunch, while we had to eat a sandwich. As you can guess, my supper was different from the other kids’. But at least I was not alone in my suffering. My sister and two brothers had the same mean mother as I did.
My mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. She had to know who our friends were and what we were doing. We had to wear clean clothes every day. Other kids always wore their clothes for days. We reached the height of disgrace because she made our clothes herself, just to save money.
The worst was yet to come. We had to be in bed by 9:00 each night and get up at 7:45 the next morning. So when my friends slept, my mother actually had the courage to break Child Labour Law. She made us work. I believed she lay awake all night thinking up mean things to do to us. Through the years, our friends’ report cards had beautiful colours on them, black for passing, red for failing. My mother, however, would merely be content with black marks. None of us was allowed the pleasure of being a dropout.
She forced us to grow up into educated and honest adults. Using this as a background, I'm now trying to bring up my three children. I'm filled with pride when my children think I am mean because now I thank God every day for giving me the meanest mother in the world.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My 11-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, started to talk about quitting swimming, which broke my heart because she loves swimming. So when the swim season began, I cut a deal with her. She would practice three times a week and try really hard. I wouldn't make her compete in the swim meets. Elizabeth does not like swim meets. She gets horribly nervous but not because she wants to win. She doesn’t care if she wins.
Recently, Elizabeth's team announced a special swim night: Members aged 11 and older would swim a timed 50 meters T-shirt relay. It wasn't exactly a meet, because it would involve only team members. That was my view. Elizabeth argued that it absolutely was a meet because there would be races. I told Elizabeth I really wanted her to go. She fought back angrily but finally agreed.
When the day of the special swim night arrived,Elizabeth was nervous. She was the youngest person and shorter by at least a foot than most of the other kids. She panicked when it was time for the T-shirt relay. The relay works like this: One person from each relay team puts on a T-shirt, a pair of socks, and a swim cap, swims 50 meters, and gets out of the pool. She takes off the clothes and puts them on the next person, who then swims 50 meters. This continues until everyone on the team has completed a lap.
Then it was Elizabeth's turn to swim. She seemed to swim faster in the T-shirt and socks than she did when she wasn't wearing them. Approaching the halfway mark, Elizabeth was in the lead. Suddenly, somebody noticed that one of Elizabeth's socks had fallen off and was floating(漂浮) in the pool. “She has to get that sock on before the end of the race,” a swimming official told Elizabeth's team, “or you will be disqualified.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
Everybody on her team started screaming, “Elizabeth! Get the sock!”
On the ride home, she shared her moment of winning again and again.
Everybody on her team started screaming, “Elizabeth! Get the sock!” However, she couldn’t hear them. It was time for desperate measures. A girl on my daughter’s team jumped in the pool, grabbed the sock, and swam after Elizabeth. “You have to put the sock on,” the girl screamed. The girl in lane two was about to pass Elizabeth. With the sock finally on, Elizabeth swam with all her efforts for the last 15 meters. It was close. But finally Elizabeth beat the other girl.
On the ride home, she shared her moment of winning again and again. She talked about how scared she was when someone grabbed her foot and how funny it was when she came to the finish and how great the night was. She told me that if the T-shirt relay was an Olympic event-and she was quite sure it should be-her team would win the gold medal. I told her that in my professional opinion, she was absolutely right.

第二节 (共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)
When I decided to major in English, I thought it would be fun. However, it turned out to be much 36 (hard) than I thought it would be. The differences in the language over hundreds of thousands of years made many passages hard 37 (understand). Trying to understand Shakespeare and Chaucer gave me a headache 38 reading Byron and Shelley also took lots of effort. However, there were times 39 I read passages that gave me wisdom(智慧).
One of these was by William Wordsworth. It went, “The best portion(部分) of a good man's life:his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.” The first time I read it, I was deeply impressed by the wisdom 40 (convey) in it. Over the years I began to fill my days 41 acts of kindness and love.
What would happen if everyone followed Wordsworth's wisdom and lived the best part of
42 (they) life? What would happen if all of us 43 (practice) acts of kindness and love all our lives? Would we stop 44 (hate)? Would we put an end to war? Would this world 45 (transform) into a beautiful, loving place? Let's all live our lives with acts of kindness and love.

第二节 (满分25分)
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
Everybody on her team started screaming, “Elizabeth! Get the sock!”
On the ride home, she shared her moment of winning again and again.
