The term “third culture kid” is used to describe children who have grown up in a different culture from that of their parents. There are great things about experiencing such a special childhood, but third culture kids also face many challenges. I was born in England, but when I was two years old, my dad got a new job in Poland. Since then I have lived in four other countries around the world.
One of the best things about moving around a lot when I was younger was experiencing different cultures and countries. I was able to try different foods, learn different languages, experience different traditions and meet people from different backgrounds. I’m also lucky to make friends from all over the world, from Nigeria to Canada, who I keep in regular touch with.
However, it wasn’t always easy. I often felt I had just settled in (定居) a new country before my parents told me we were moving again. Leaving my friends behind always made me sad, and I have lost touch with many people I was very close to. When I started university in England, English games and English education were completely lost on me!
At that time, I didn’t realize how lucky I was to have such an exciting childhood. Now I’m so thankful for the special opportunities, and they have made me want to continue to travel around the world for a very long time!
4. What does the term “third culture kid” refer to?
A. Some children who can’t live with their parents.
B. Some children who grow up in a different culture to that of their parents.
C. Some children who were born in a different place from their parents’.
D. Some children who can’t get an education like their parents.
5. Which country did the writer NOT spend his childhood in?
A. Poland. B. England. C. Canada. D. America.
6. What CANNOT we know from the passage?
A. How many countries the writer has been to.
B. Where the writer started university.
C. What the writer’s parents’ jobs were.
D. What the advantages (优点) of being a third culture kid were.
7. What does the writer think of his life of being a third culture kid?
A. Meaningless. B. Successful. C. Lucky. D. Uncomfortable.
【答案】4. B 5. D 6. C 7. C
【解析】

根据第一段首句“Third culture kid is a term that is used to describe children who have grown up in a different culture to that of their parents.”
