Should friends be similar or different? We asked three students to share their ideas.
I like friends who are like me. I’m quieter than most of my classmates, and my best friend Mia is also quiet. We both love reading in the library during breaks. There’s a small difference though: I’m better at math, while Mia is better at English. We often help each other with homework, which makes our grades better.

We both love sports, but he always beats me in races. Still, we have a great time playing together. His positivity pushes me to try new things, like joining the school track team.
—Huang Wei, 14
I don’t care if friends are similar or different. My best friend Carol is very funny and more outgoing than I am. We both love watching cartoons and eating ice cream. What matters most to me is that we trust each other. Differences don’t affect our friendship at all.

Every Saturday is “Family Fun Day” for the Tan family. Last Saturday, they planned to visit Tan’s grandparents who live in a small village 20 kilometers away.
In the morning, Dad checked their car carefully. “Safety comes first,” he said. Mom was busy in the kitchen baking Grandma’s favorite walnut cookies. “Grandma always says store-bought cookies aren’t as tasty as homemade ones,” she told Tan Xiaole. Xiaole was packing a small bag for Grandpa: it had Grandpa’s favorite green tea and a book about local birds—Grandpa loves birdwatching in the village woods.
Xiaole’s 5-year-old sister, Xinxin, was drawing a picture. “Look, Dad! I’m drawing Grandma feeding chickens in the yard,” she said. Mom helped her write “I love you, Grandma” at the bottom of the picture.
Before leaving, Dad stopped by the supermarket to buy a basket of fresh peaches. “Grandpa has peach trees in his yard, but the fruits won’t be ripe until next month. I want to give him a sweet surprise,” Dad explained with a smile.
When they arrived, Grandpa was waiting at the gate. “Come in! I stewed your favorite corn soup,” he said. Xiaole ran to him and handed over the tea and book. Xinxin gave her picture to Grandma, who kissed her cheek and said, “This is the most precious gift I’ve ever received!”

Pocket parks—small green spaces tucked between buildings in cities—are becoming more and more popular around the world. These tiny parks are like “urban lungs”: they take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen, making city air cleaner. They also provide habitats for small animals like squirrels, butterflies and sparrows, which are rarely seen in busy downtown areas. What’s more, pocket parks help reduce the urban heat island effect—the temperature in these parks is usually 2-3℃ lower than that on nearby concrete roads.
However, pocket parks are facing threats now. Some people throw litter on the grass, while others let their pets poop on the paths without cleaning up. Worse still, a few companies cut down trees in pocket parks to build parking lots or advertising boards, destroying the plants and animals’ homes.
Luckily, many cities have taken action to protect pocket parks. In Shenzhen, for example, the government passed a law to stop people from damaging plants in these parks. Volunteers organize weekly clean-up activities, picking up trash and putting up signs to remind visitors to protect the environment. Primary schools nearby also hold “Love Pocket Parks” theme classes to teach kids the importance of these small green spaces.
Pocket parks show us that even small patches of green can make a big difference to city life. To protect them is to protect our own living environment. Everyone can play a small part—never litter, walk your pets responsibly, and cherish every green spot in our city.
36. What can pocket parks NOT do according to Paragraph 1?
A. Clean the city air. B. Provide homes for small animals.
C. Raise the temperature in cities. D. Offer a cool place for citizens to rest.
37. Why are pocket parks in danger?
① People throw litter in them.
② Pets’ waste pollutes the environment.
③ Companies build facilities on the land.
A. ①② B. ①③ C. ②③ D. ①②③
38. What does Shenzhen do to protect pocket parks?
A. Build more parking lots near them.
B. Pass a law to punish destructive behavior.
C. Ask volunteers to plant more trees every day.
D. Stop primary school students from entering them.
39. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Pocket parks are only built in rural areas.
B. The temperature in pocket parks is higher than that on nearby roads.
C. Everyone can help protect pocket parks with small actions.

五、任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据语篇内容回答问题。
Honeypot ants are one of the most unusual insects in the world. Unlike common ants that hunt for food every day, honeypot ants store food in their bodies—especially sugary liquid from plants and insects. Their abdomens (腹部) swell up like small jars, which is how they get their name. They have a sweet secretion (分泌物) that attracts other insects, making it easier to catch prey.
These ants play an important role in their ecosystem. They help control the number of small pests like aphids (蚜虫) and flies. They also serve as food for larger animals such as birds and lizards. However, honeypot ants are now in danger. Their living places are being destroyed by human activities—people dig up the dry soil where they live to build houses and farms. Pollution from pesticides (农药) also kills many of them every year.
Scientists are working hard to protect these strange but useful insects. Local governments set up protected areas to stop people from damaging their habitats. Volunteers also spread knowledge about honeypot ants to help people understand their value in nature. We should all realize that every small creature, no matter how strange it looks, is part of the ecological chain.
51. What do honeypot ants mainly store in their bodies?
52. How do honeypot ants attract other insects?
53. Why are honeypot ants important in the ecosystem?
54. What problem are honeypot ants facing? (不超过10个词)
55. What do you think of honeypot ants? (不超过15个词)

Small Deeds, Warm School
Our school is our second home, full of warmth and love. To make it better, I often do small but meaningful things.
Every Monday, I tidy the class book corner: I sort the books by category, wipe the dust off the covers, and put them back in order. This makes it easier for my classmates to find the books they want. When my deskmate Lisa struggles with math problems, I take ten minutes every day to explain the key points to her. Now her math grades have improved a lot, and we both feel happy. I also pick up litter on the playground whenever I see it—a clean campus makes everyone feel comfortable.
To me, school is not just a place to study, but a community where we grow together. Small acts may seem unimportant, but if everyone does a little, our school will be warmer and more welcoming. I believe love and responsibility are what make a school a real home.
