They discovered a large number of pottery vases, spinning wheels, dishes and knives. They also discovered two tombs (坟墓). These discoveries proved the existence of a 4,000-year-old culture. As the relics park was built right on this historical site, people call it a window into the history of Shanghai. The park includes a farmland protection area, a cultural zone and a Chinese-style water town. Rice, corn, sunflowers, pears and peaches are grown in the farmland zone. The water town provides a perfect place for tourists to stay the night. The cultural zone is the most important part of the park. It consists of ten museums and memorial halls (纪念堂). The most popular one is the Guangfulin Cultural Museum. It’s built underwater with its roofs on the surface. You can find many shops, cafés and teahouses in the park. The Great Wall of China is 8,850 kilometers (5,500 miles) long, running from east to west across northern China, like a giant dragon lying on the land. It shows how smart and creative ancient Chinese people were. It’s a symbol of China’s long history and culture. The Great Wall was built over 2,500 years ago by different Chinese dynasties (朝代). The earliest parts were made of earth and stones to keep enemies out. During the Ming Dynasty, people added bricks (砖) to make it stronger. Soldiers were the main builders, while workers carried heavy stones and bricks by hand and with animals like donkeys. In mountainous areas, they cut steps directly into rocks. In deserts, they mixed sand and grass to build the walls. Today, the Great Wall remains a symbol of China’s proud history. It stands tall as one of the world’s greatest landmarks, welcoming millions of visitors each year. Whether you walk on its ancient stones or learn about it in books, the Great Wall teaches us about courage, teamwork, and the importance of protecting our cultural treasures. Climbing the Great Wall taught me patience. The steps made my legs ache, but an elderly guide shared stories of soldiers guarding these towers. I realized the wall wasn’t just stones—it was hard work and effort. At the top, I felt proud to walk where history was made, and I learned more about China’s past. —Lucas The broken walls of Jiankou scared me, but a group of hikers helped me cross risky spots. We shared water and laughed at our muddy shoes. One traveler explained how locals rebuilt parts of the wall through their efforts. I learned that protecting history needs teamwork, not just bravery. —David A volunteer showed me ancient brick carvings (雕刻) at Jinshanling—names of builders from 500 years ago. She said, “These hands built legends.” I touched the marks, thinking about forgotten heroes. Now, I tell friends: the Great Wall isn’t a photo spot; it’s the effort from ordinary people. —Linda 1.What is the Great Wall of China compared to in the text? 2.Why was the Great Wall built towards Hexi corridor? 3.How did the ancient Chinese carry the materials for building the Great Wall? 4.What are the common ideas according to the traveling experiences? 5.Have you visited the Great Wall? In 1958, while digging a new waterway, some local farmers found several pieces of ancient pottery. In 1961, archaeologists (考古学家) began a serious study there. What have you learned from building the wall? 2 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! 2 / 23 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
