Every Friday aftemoon,a comner of our school art room became a repair studio.Students
brought things that were too useful to throw away but too damaged to use casily:a shirt with a
tom pocket,a pencil box without a handle,an old cloth bag from a grandpnrent.A useful object
can carry beauty without looking new.The aim was not to make everything perfect. It was to let
care become noticeable.even when the repair mark stayed on the surface.
In the first lesson, our art teacher began with a small blue patch (from her
hometown. Its paltern was simple, but cach line had been made by hand.It was not a muscum
蜜
lesson, but the objects made history feel closc.Students who had thought"traditional craft(
)meant something far from daily life began to ask how pcople leamned these skills and why
families kept them.
The most successful repairs began with careful looking. Before touching needles or glue,
groups described the material, the weak point and the story behind the object. One group found
墨
that a schoolbag kept tearing because heavy books pulled on one narrow strap().Their new
patch was not placed over the hole only:it also spread the weight across u wider arca.
The project also changed how students talked about jobs.A designer needed imagination,
but also respect for the user.An engineer had to think about strength and shape.A craftsperson
made decisions with both hands and cyes. These ideas helped students see that good work is
毁
rarely just fast work.
At the exhibition,no object looked exactly new.Bright thread crossed dark cloth, and a
wooden box showed a smooth line where it had been joined.Nobody asked which piece had cost
the most.Students were surprised to find that patience had become a shared skill. They had not
only repuired objects;they had practised a way of seeing the world. What is old or broken may
茶
still be worth time, thought and a second chance.
24.What is the main purpose of setting up the repair studio?
A.To collect worn things.
B.To show the warmth of care.
C.To teach students repair skills.
D.To make broken items look new.

A.They grew interested in crafis.
B.They leamed more traditional crafts.
C.They considered patches artistic.
D.They better understood the museum's history.
26.Why is the schoolbag repuir mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A.To describe the basic repair steps.
B.To stress the advantage of teamwork.
C.To prove the value of careful observation.
D.To introduce common damage to schoolbags.

Recent research has found that the wastewater from washing machines is the biggest source
of microplastic fibers(in waterways.Beizhan Yan,an expert in plastic identification.also
noted these fibers had been discovered in the ocean."If we don't deal with them.they will end
up in our food chains and cause trouble,"said Yan."I was really interested to see if we could
solve the problem at the source.
So Yan started his research from the laundry room, the place where people wash clothes.
An average three-pound load of clothes loses hundreds of thousands of microfibers into the sewer
systcm(衫水系s统),where they flow directly pust water chemical treatment plants and enter
river and ocean ecosystems. In the U.S.,most treatment plants are designed to reduce organic
matcrial in the water, said Yan,and are not good al removing a great number of man-made
particles such as microplastics.Unlike natural fibers which completely break down, these man-made
materials stay in the environment forever.
To address the problem.Yan and a team of researchers are developing and testing a water
filtration()system to trap microfibers before they leave the washing machine. The project,
funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrution, launched in 2023 and will run
through 2026.
One of the greatest challenges of the project will be to develop a filtering system that can
not only find and take out the microfibers, but also process a great deal of water at a fast rate.
"The filters work well at the beginning, but then they slowly get worse and worse because they're

just catching everything and clogging themselves up."he said."So one of the biggest problems
we're trying to solve is how you unclog them.
The technology will serve to kecp microfibers out of the sewer system but will also
contribute to a circular economy. When dried out,the microfiber pollutants from each cycle will
be like a thin cake-like plate that can be recycled to produce more clothes.
28.Why are the microplastic fibers difficult to remove in paragraph 2?
A.They are too tiny to catch.
B.They are not the real target.
C.They tend to float on the water surface.
D.They can't flow through sewer pipes.
29.What is Yan's new system for?
A.Cleaning washing machines.
B.Brcaking down microfibers.
C.Catching microfibers inside washers.
D.Processing chemicals in water.
30.What docs the underlined word"clogging"in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Blocking.
B.Emptying.
C.Breaking.
D.Building.
31.What extra bencfit does the technology bring according to paragraph 5?
A.Improving plastic production.
B.Creating a new economic type.
C.Speeding up wastewater ireatment.

A hundred years ago,Emily Post made good manners popular. Her bestselling book,
Eriquetre(1922),presented the "basics of good behaviour"as modemn and attractive, not
old-fashioned.She offered practical advice.
Today, people are once again showing interest in politeness. Many online influencers offer
lessons on table manners and digital etiquette.Videos with #Etiquctte on TikTok have been
viewed over 5 billion times. These influencers give tips on how to start meetings and how to
lcave group chats without being rude.Even truditional schools are updating their courscs to lit
today's world.Interestingly, this growing interest comes at a time when most people think
manners are worsening. In fact,90%of parents think young people aged 6 to 18 lack respect.
However, what is regarded as politeness changes over time.Post once criticised (
those who called young people rude simply for not following older rules.Louise Mullaney.a

language expert, explores this idea in her new book Polite. She points out that people always
view language changes as a sign of falling standards, but she argues that such changes are a
"natural and unavoidable part of language development".For example, the old phrase"if it
pleasc you"[rom Shakespeare's time was shortened to"please"by Post's era.and now young
pcople type "pls"on their phones often.
Now Al will change politeness once more.McKinsey.a consultancy.believes soft skills will
become even more important in an age when Al can do much of the heavy analytical work.Good
manners may becomc more appreciated. On the other hand,AI could also make people ruder-for
example, children would shout orders at virtual assistants. These two opposite effects raise
concerns about the future of human interaction().
Rescarch shows that being polite to Al actually helps, while rude questions can cause
chatbots to give wrong answers or miss important information.AI mirrors human receptiveness
(to politeness, because it is uained on large amounis of data created by people. The
research stresses the importance of ireating AI with respect. So whether online or in real life,it
always pays to be polite.
32.What can we learn about Emily Post's book Eriquette (1922)from Paragraph 1?
A.It saw manners as old-fashioned.
B.It gave practical etiquette tips.
C.It focused on unpopular old rules.
D.It lacked modern behaviour guides.
33.Which proves people care about manners again according to paragraph 2?
A.Etiquette videos gain huge views.
B.Parents praise kids'good manners.
C.Traditional schools add new subjects.
D.Etiquette is a necessity for influencers.
34.What is Mullaney's probable attitude towards language changes like"pls"?
A.Reserved.
B.Worried.
C.Uncertain.
D.Approving.
35.What should we do when we interact with AI?
A.Require it to be totally honcst.
B.Give it orders in a loud voice.
C.Show it politencss and respect.
D.Help it with analytical work.

Give Your Feelings a Seat
Dealing with terrible feelings is never casy, especially for teenagers.
36 Facing it.many teenagers hurry to hide it,laugh it off,or blame someone
else.Yet a feeling is often trying to tell us somcthing. When we slow down long enough to ask
ourselves,we may realize what we nced:rest, help, practice or a clearer boundary().
In my English class, our teacher introduced a "weather notebook".We were asked to write
three short lines:the name of one feeling, the moment it appeared, and one small action we
chose. The page was private;no one had to read it aloud.37 A boy who often wrote
"angry"noticed that the word appeared before math exams. That is to say,he was not simply"a
bad-tempered(脾气差的)person";he wus worried about failing..
The next lesson was to name feelings without judging them.Saying "I am nervous"can be
changed into "Nervousness is here."38 With that distance,a student can breathe, ask for
five minutes,or choose to begin with the easiest part of a task.
Some students preferred to escape into music.games or endless messages.39 A feeling
that is ignored often gets stronger.Listening to it early is usually kinder than fighting it late.
During group work, the leacher also asked us to practise "listening without correcting".
One student spoke for one minute, and the partner repeated the main idea before giving advice.
40 When a classmate said."I felt left out,the listener could answer,"You wanted to be
noticed."That simple reply did not solve everything, but it made the room feel safer
A.Weather notebooks can clear up all bad feelings.
B.Naming the fecling gives the brain a Little distance from it.
C.We also learnt listening differs from agreeing with everything.
D.The best way is to notice feelings brielly and then move on fast.
E.A strong feeling is not always a problem to be solved immediately.
F.Such small notes help students recognize their confusing feelings clearly.
G.Keeping busy may look useful, but it can hide what the feeling is trying to say.
