Cheese rolling, the UK Every Spring Bank Holiday in the UK, crowds come to Cooper’s Hill to go after a big round rolling cheese down the hill, trying to catch it before it reaches the bottom. Some say “Good morning!” to the lone bird, while others take off their hat. 1. What do red wedding sari in India and magpies in UK have in common? A. They are related to luck. 根据“Red brides (新娘), India”部分中“The color that a bride wears on her wedding day is often traditional and thought to bring good luck. In the US, brides dress in white, while Indian brides will be found in red, in the form of a wedding sari (纱丽) or a lehenga, which varies from place to place.(新娘在婚礼当天所穿的颜色通常是传统的,并被认为能带来好运。在美国,新娘身穿白色礼服;而在印度,新娘则会身着红色——以婚礼纱丽或Lehenga的形式呈现,其具体样式因地而异)”和“ Magpies (喜鹊), the UK”部分中“Many people in the UK believe seeing a lone magpie stands for bad luck.(许多英国人认为看到一只孤喜鹊代表坏运气)”可知,印度的红色婚礼纱丽和英国的喜鹊都与运气有关。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据“Cheese rolling, the UK”部分中“Thanks to the growth of the Internet, the event has begun to attract international people to come here to take part in, with winners from Nepal, New Zealand and the USA.(由于互联网的发展,这项活动开始吸引国际人士前来参加,获奖者来自尼泊尔、新西兰和美国)”可知,通过互联网,“追奶酪”比赛越来越有名。 B Marianne North was an early female explorer, naturalist and painter. She traveled around the world, painting plants, people and places. She left an extraordinary legacy behind. Marianne looked after and traveled with her father for much of her life. After his death in1869, Marianne, financially independent at the age of forty, set off alone to explore and paint the world. During her long artistic journey around the world, Marianne displayed impressive courage and determination. Faced with numerous challenges in her pursuits, Marianne proved unaffected and would laugh it off. In Italy, when her landlord pretended he had no rooms for them except those on the fifth floor, Marianne fearlessly responded with “so to the fifth we went, and gained all the better view”. Marianne’s most famous supporter was Charles Darwin. Darwin’s power of bringing out other people’s best points extended to Marianne whom he advised to see and paint the Australian vegetation (植被) which was unlike that of any other country. Taking Darwin’s advice as a royal command, she went at once and eagerly returned in 1881 to sit with Darwin and his children under a shady tree to look closely at her paintings together. Marianne’s paintings and writing give detailed information on the location, habitat and uses of many of the plants she painted. On her travels, she collected and discovered plants that were new to botanical science at the time. A pitcher plant she painted in Borneo, for example, was unknown to science at the time she painted it. When botanists saw it, the painting caused great excitement. Through her art, she sought to inspire and educate people about the natural world. 4. What made Marianne’s traveling around the world at forty possible? A. Personal fame. B. Family support. C. Financial freedom. D. Darwin’s advice. 5. What does the author show by mentioning the event in Italy? A. Marianne’s painting skills. B. Marianne’s sense of humor. C. Marianne’s physical strength. D. Marianne’s positive attitude. 6. How did Marianne react to Darwin’s suggestion? A. She followed it immediately. B. She considered it a great honor. C. She discussed it with his children. D. She improved her techniques first. 7. What can we infer about Marianne’s painting of the pitcher plant? A. It was her most famous work. B. It helped identify a new species. C. It was painted to attract botanists. D. It proved her exceptional painting skills. C 5. D 6. A 7. 根据第二段中的“After his death in1869, Marianne, financially independent at the age of forty, set off alone to explore and paint the world.(1869年父亲去世后,40岁的玛丽安经济独立,独自出发去探索和描绘世界)”可知,玛丽安40岁能环游世界的原因是她拥有经济自由。 根据第三段中的“Faced with numerous challenges in her pursuits, Marianne proved unaffected and would laugh it off. In Italy, when her landlord pretended he had no rooms for them except those on the fifth floor, Marianne fearlessly responded with “so to the fifth we went, and gained all the better view”.(在追求目标的过程中面临诸多挑战时,玛丽安表现得泰然自若,并一笑置之。在意大利,当房东假装除了五楼的房间外没有其他房间给他们时,玛丽安勇敢地回应道:“那我们就去五楼,还能欣赏到更好的风景。”)”可知,作者提及意大利的这件事,是为了体现玛丽安面对困难时的乐观从容,即积极的态度。故选D项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Taking Darwin’s advice as a royal command, she went at once and eagerly returned in 1881 to sit with Darwin and his children under a shady tree to look closely at her paintings together.(玛丽安将达尔文的建议视为圣旨,立即动身,并于1881年急切地返回,与达尔文和他的孩子们坐在一棵阴凉的树下,一起仔细欣赏她的画作)”可知,玛丽安对达尔文的建议立刻遵从。故选A项。 根据第五段中的“A pitcher plant she painted in Borneo, for example, was unknown to science at the time she painted it. When botanists saw it, the painting caused great excitement.(例如,她在婆罗洲绘制的猪笼草,在她绘制时还不为科学界所知。当植物学家看到这幅画时,引起了极大的轰动)”可知,玛丽安绘制的猪笼草在当时是科学界未知的物种,这幅画帮助植物学家发现了这一新物种。故选B项。 C Children often come across diet culture when they are very young, and its bad effects can last a long time, according to Virginia Sole-Smith, the author of Fat Talk: Parenting in the Age of Diet Culture. “Kids, at a very young age, start to become aware of body shaming,” Sole-Smith said. “The main factors of children’s future eating disorder ( 饮食失调) are kids’ being ashamed of their weight and their history of dieting in childhood.” In Fat Talk, Sole-Smith argues that one way parents can fight back against this is to take a fresh look at the word “fat”. “We can understand ‘fat’ as just a neutral body descriptor, just like saying tall or short or brown hair, black hair...” Sole-Smith said. “If your child in a bigger body comes to you, and he says, ‘Am I fat?’ you should be honest with him and say, ‘You’re fat.’ And there’s definitely nothing wrong with that. We love your body just the way it is.” Another suggestion from Sole-Smith is that parents should change how they talk with their children and in front of them at home. “We can say I’m not going to feel ashamed of my body in front of my kids and I’m going to celebrate bodies in all shapes and sizes,” Sole-Smith recommended. Simmons, a parenting expert, added, “So if you have a child who’s in a bigger body, talk about their strengths,” Simmons continued. “Helping our children concentrate on how our bodies work, how they allow us to achieve our goals...these are things we can remind our kids about every single day.” Often, diet conversations about size can be unavoidable for children, but Simmons said parents can act as a shield between children and some of the most harmful messages behind diet culture. But as children grow older, Simmons encourages parents to be honest with kids about their own struggles and not to pretend they know everything and that kids know nothing about diet culture. 8. What may lead to children’s eating disorders in the future? A. Body shape and peer pressure. B. Body shaming and dieting experience. C. Body change and food preference. D. Body image and parenting style. 9. Which of the following can be learned from paragraph 3? A. Kids should care more about their figures. B. Kids should take pride in being overweight. C. Parents should give “fat” a correct definition. D. Parents should teach their kids honesty. 10. What should kids focus on according to Simmons? A. Their body functions. B. Their individual characters. C. Their physical feature. D. Their mental health. 11. Which word has the same meaning as “shield” in the last paragraph? A. Teacher. B. Supporter. C. Protector. D. Connector. B 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第二段中“The main factors of children’s future eating disorder (饮食失调) are kids’ being ashamed of their weight and their history of dieting in childhood.(造成孩子日后患上饮食失调的主要因素是孩子因体重感到羞耻,以及童年时期有过节食经历。)” 根据第三段中““We can understand ‘fat’ as just a neutral body descriptor, just like saying tall or short or brown hair, black hair...” Sole-Smith said. “If your child in a bigger body comes to you, and he says, ‘Am I fat?’ you should be honest with him and say, ‘You’re fat.’ And there’s definitely nothing wrong with that. We love your body just the way it is.(“我们可以把‘胖’理解为一种中性的身体描述,就像说高或矮、棕发或黑发一样。”Sole-Smith说,“如果您的孩子体型偏大,来向您求助并问:‘我是不是胖了?’ 那么您应该坦诚地告诉他:‘你很胖。’ 这完全没有问题。我们欣赏你的身体本来的样子。”)”可知,家长应当给“胖”正确、中性的定义,不赋予负面含义。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Helping our children concentrate on how our bodies work, how they allow us to achieve our goals...these are things we can remind our kids about every single day.(帮助孩子关注身体如何运转、如何助力自己实现目标……这是我们可以每天提醒孩子的事情。)”可知,Simmons建议孩子应该关注自身的身体机能。 【11题详解】 词句猜测题。根据最后一段中“Often, diet conversations about size can be unavoidable for children, but Simmons said parents can act as a shield between children and some of the most harmful messages behind diet culture.(关于身材的节食讨论对孩子来说往往无法避免,但Simmons表示,家长可以在孩子和节食文化中的有害信息之间充当屏障。)”可知,家长可以保护孩子免受饮食文化有害信息的伤害,shield意为“保护者、屏障”,和Protector词义相同。 D Many of us assume we spend too much time on social media — a concern highlighted by Oxford University Press selecting “brain rot (脑腐)” as 2024’s word of the year. But finding the willpower to cut back is not an easy task, thanks to how social media stimulates (刺激) our brain’s reward system. Anna Lembke, an addiction medicine expert, explains that people can get addicted to digital media just like they can get addicted to drugs. Based on what we know about how drugs and alcohol affect the brain, we can infer that a similar process takes place when we check social media, with every like, comment, or cute cat video causing a quick rush of dopamine (多巴胺), the brain’s “feel-good”chemical. However, our brain is designed to maintain an overall dopamine balance — what Lembke describes as a teeter-totter mechanism (跷跷板机制). Endless use of the phone eventually disturbs this balance, causing the brain to adjust by producing less dopamine or slowing its delivery. Over time, this can lead us into a state of “dopamine shortage” where we need more time online to get back to feeling normal. Hitting “pause” on this social-media-driven dopamine cycle can allow the brain to reset reward pathways, Lembke says, allowing us to stop the uncontrollable overuse that leads to “brain rot”. Paige Coyne, co-author of a study on the health effects of a two-week social media break on 31 young adults, explains that overuse varies individually, emphasizing the importance of setting realistic goals to reduce social media use. “Some may quit entirely, while others may want to cut their usage in half.” To help rewire the brain reward pathways, Lembke recommends avoiding it for as long as you can — ideally at least four weeks. But even short breaks have proved effective for improving mental health. A study of 65 girls aged 10 to 19 found that taking a three-day break from social media improved their confidence and self-kindness, resulting in lower body shame. 12. What makes “brain rot”similar to drug addiction? A. The loss of self-control. B. The letting out of dopamine. C. The need for a long break. D. The lack of medical treatment. 13. What is the teeter-totter mechanism in social media addiction? A. Less time — reward recovery — less need. B. Phone use — dopamine rise — short pleasure. C. Phone checking — balance loss — feeling lost. D. Online overuse — weaker reward — growing use. 14. What does Lembke suggest about cutting back on social media? A. Setting goals to quit completely. B. Staying away as long as manageable. C. Switching to different online content. D. Taking drugs to keep dopamine balance. 15. How do scientists in the passage support their findings? A. By analyzing brain scans. B. By surveying adult habits. C. By citing a research study. D. By comparing old theories. 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. B 15. C 【解析】 【导语】本文以牛津年度热词“脑腐”为切入点,介绍社交媒体成瘾的原理、大脑多巴胺跷跷板运作机制,阐述过度使用社交媒体的危害,并结合相关研究,给出科学减少社交媒体使用、改善心理健康的方法。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Anna Lembke, an addiction medicine expert, explains that people can get addicted to digital media just like they can get addicted to drugs. Based on what we know about how drugs and alcohol affect the brain, we can infer that a similar process takes place when we check social media, with every like, comment, or cute cat video causing a quick rush of dopamine (多巴胺), the brain’s “feel-good”chemical.(成瘾医学专家安娜·伦布克解释,人们会像对药物上瘾一样对数字媒体上瘾。根据已知的药物和酒精对大脑的作用原理,我们可以推断,人们浏览社交媒体时会发生相同的生理过程,每一次点赞、评论或是观看可爱的猫咪视频,都会促使大脑快速分泌多巴胺——大脑“愉悦”化学物质。)”可知,社交媒体成瘾和药物成瘾原理一致,都会促使大脑释放多巴胺,这是二者的相似之处。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Endless use of the phone eventually disturbs this balance, causing the brain to adjust by producing less dopamine or slowing its delivery. Over time, this can lead us into a state of “dopamine shortage” where we need more time online to get back to feeling normal.(无节制地使用手机最终会打破这种平衡,促使大脑自我调节,减少多巴胺的分泌或放缓多巴胺的释放速度。久而久之,这会让我们陷入“多巴胺匮乏”的状态,需要花费更长的上网时间,才能恢复正常的愉悦感受。)”可知,无节制上网会导致大脑多巴胺分泌减少、奖励变弱,人们需要更长上网时间才能获得愉悦感,对应“过度上网——奖励减弱——增加使用时长”的机制。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“To help rewire the brain reward pathways, Lembke recommends avoiding it for as long as you can — ideally at least four weeks.(为了重新修复大脑的奖赏通路,伦布克建议人们尽可能远离社交媒体,理想的停用时长至少为四周。)”可知,Lembke建议人们在力所能及的范围内,尽可能远离社交媒体。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Paige Coyne, co-author of a study on the health effects of a two-week social media break on 31 young adults, explains that overuse varies individually, emphasizing the importance of setting realistic goals to reduce social media use. “Some may quit entirely, while others may want to cut their usage in half.”(Paige Coyne,一项关于为期两周的社交媒体休息对31名年轻人健康影响的研究的合著者,解释了过度使用因人而异,强调了设定现实目标以减少社交媒体使用的重要性。“有些人可能会完全戒掉,而另一些人可能想把使用量减少一半。”)”以及第五段中“A study of 65 girls aged 10 to 19 found that taking a three-day break from social media improved their confidence and self-kindness, resulting in lower body shame.(一项针对65名10至19岁女孩的研究发现,从社交媒体上休息三天可以提高她们的自信心和自我善意,从而降低身体的羞耻感。)”可知,文章通过引用多项科学研究来支撑研究结论。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Are you spending your holidays sitting around? Don’t waste your days off.(你假期是否整天坐着无所事事?不要浪费你的假期)”说明假期不要虚度,下文“You can find many fun things to do, either inside your home or outside. You can use your imagination, get creative, or just take a walk with other people.(你可以在家里或外面找到许多有趣的事情做。你可以发挥你的想象力,发挥创造力,或者只是和别人一起散步)”说明有很多方法可以充实假期,空处承上启下,引出下文各类假期活动。所以E项“这里有许多即便在长假里也能充实自己的方法。”符合语境。 【17题详解】 下文“Simple outdoor happiness is often ignored. Getting out of the house is not only brings lot of happiness, but it is also a great chance for exercise.(简单的户外快乐常常被忽视。走出家门不仅能带来很多快乐,而且也是锻炼的好机会)”可知,本段主要讲述的是要走出家门,空处为本段小标题,总领全段户外主题。所以B项“到户外去享受快乐”符合语境。 【18题详解】 上文“Go on an adventure with a friend.(和朋友一起去冒险)”说明可以和朋友一起去冒险,下文“Visit a town you have never been to, or go for a walk in the forests. I used to admire that about him. Until the summer I turned sixteen. That was the summer I built my tree-house. It wasn’t fancy — just a few wooden planks nailed between the strong branches of the old oak in our backyard. But it was mine. I painted the railings (围栏) blue, hung a wind chime (铃) I made from bottle caps, and placed a small wooden box inside where I kept my treasures: a fossil I had found, a letter from my best friend, and a photo of our dog Max, who had passed away the year before. That tree-house was my world, the place where I felt safe and free. And Leo knew it. One afternoon, I came home from a friend’s house to find Leo in the backyard with a saw (锯子) in his hand. The blue railings were gone. The wind chime lay broken on the grass. The tree-house was half destroyed, its wooden planks scattered on the ground like fallen leaves. “What did you do?” I screamed, my voice shaking with disbelief. Leo didn’t look up. “Dad said it was unsafe. The branches were rotting. It could have fallen at any time.” “You didn’t even ask me!” I shouted back. I stood there, trembling with anger. He had taken something I loved and torn it apart without a word. “I hate you,” I whispered. Then I turned and walked away, my eyes burning with tears. For two weeks, I didn’t speak to him. He left notes on my desk. I threw them away. He knocked on my door. I locked it. During those weeks, I noticed he spent every evening in the garage, and I could hear the sounds of hammering and sawing late into the night. I assumed he was working on some project of his own — something he had always done. I didn’t ask. I didn’t care. Then, on a rainy Sunday morning, I heard a noise in the backyard. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 I pulled back the curtain and couldn’t believe what I saw. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Filled with guilt and gratitude, I climbed up to see what he had made. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: I pulled back the curtain and couldn’t believe what I saw. Leo was standing in the pouring rain, holding a pile of wooden planks. He was completely soaked, but he didn’t seem to notice. He was building something — not the old treehouse, but a small platform with a roof, stronger and safer than before. He hammered each nail carefully, measured each plank twice, and wiped rain from his eyes so he could see. He had never built anything like this in his life. Suddenly, the hammering from the garage over the past weeks made sense — he had been teaching himself how to build, just for me. Filled with guilt and gratitude, I climbed up to see what he had made. The platform was solid, the roof waterproof. In the center sat a new wooden box, polished smooth. On top of it was a note in his handwriting: “I should have asked. I’m sorry. I can’t bring back the old one, but I can help you build a better one. Together.” I thought of how I had locked him out, thrown away his notes, and whispered “I hate you.” Tears filled my eyes. I walked inside and found Leo drying his hair. “I’m sorry,” I said. He looked up, surprised. “For what?” “For everything.” He smiled and handed me a hammer. “Then let’s fix it together.” I nodded, and for the first time in weeks, we sat side by side — not as enemies, but as brothers. 词汇激活 行为类 ①注意到:notice/perceive ②问:ask/inquire ③抹去:wipe/erase 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprised/astonished/amazed ②微笑:smile/beam/grin 【点睛】【高分句型1】Leo was standing in the pouring rain, holding a pile of wooden planks. D. She improved her techniques first. 7. What can we infer about Marianne’s painting of the pitcher plant? A. It was her most famous work. B. It helped identify a new species. C. It was painted to attract botanists. D. It proved her exceptional painting skills. C Children often come across diet culture when they are very young, and its bad effects can last a long time, according to Virginia Sole-Smith, the author of Fat Talk: Parenting in the Age of Diet Culture. A. Teacher. B. Supporter. C. Protector. D. Connector. D Many of us assume we spend too much time on social media — a concern highlighted by Oxford University Press selecting “brain rot (脑腐)” as 2024’s word of the year. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Are you spending your holidays sitting around? ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
