【解析】
【原文】W: Good evening, everyone. I recently learnt Arabic in Cairo as part of my degree. My interest in the language was due to the passion of our Arabic lecturer and as the course progressed, my interest in the culture also grew with it. I considered studying in the Middle East, but ultimately decided on Cairo due to its energetic cultural scene. However, in the city, we faced some challenges, including difficulties finding a hotel and accommodation as we were a group of unmarried individuals. Once settled, the culture shock was intense for some of us. One member of our group returned home within the first week. Luckily I became accustomed to the life in Cairo gradually. The biggest challenge of learning Arabic is the disconnection between the written and the spoken forms. Despite these challenges, learning Arabic has been a rewarding experience, including absorbing myself in the culture and getting to know the locals and even negotiating at a local market. Highlights were being invited to a traditional Arabic meal at one of the locals’ home and being able to confidently communicate. Overall, this experience was outside of my comfort zone and allowed me to learn and grow in interesting ways. I encourage others to consider involving themselves in new cultures and languages. Thanks for listening.

China’s space industry has made great achievements, which makes us occupy a place in the world space field. After 11 years, China has finally completed its Tiangong space station with the docking (对接) its Mengtian lab module, establishing the Tiangong as the second operational space station apart from the US-led, multinational International Space Station.
On November 1, the Mengtian lab module, the third and final part of its Tiangong space station docked with the core Tianhe module 13 hours after being launched. Next, the Tianhe and Mengtian modules will dock with the Wentian lab module, completing Tiangong’s T-shaped basic structure. The 17.88-meter-long, 23-ton Mengtian module is the heaviest operational single-cabin (舱) active spacecraft in orbit. Mengtian consists of a work cabin, a goods airlock cabin, a payload cabin and resource cabin. In addition, it has eight scientific experiment rooms and 37 extravehicular (舱外的) installation (安装) options.
One of the more ambitious aims of China’s space program is to position the country as a leading provider of space-based international public goods and services, such as planetary defense. Last month, Asia Times reported about China’s plans to conduct its first asteroid (行星) direction-changing test in 2025 or 2026. China has also taken pioneering steps in Mar exploration. A good example is the completion of China’s Tianwen-1 Mars mission. China has also stated that it is willing to share scientific data from its Tianwen-l mission at an appropriate time and that scientists are welcome to apply for research over the data.
Moreover, China has also announced plans to send men to the moon, helping its future settlement and economic use. And China and Russia plan to establish a permanent moon base by 2027. The base, the International Lunar Research Station, is seen as an experimental complex designed for multiple scientific activities.
Reflecting China’s open-door space policy, the Tiangong is designed to be “inclusive” and adaptable for foreign astronauts.

New evidence suggests that studying Chinese and learning to write Chinese characters may train cognitive (认知的) abilities, which are not developed by learning other languages and writing systems.
A study conducted by researchers from the UK’s Wellcome Trust found that people who speak Chinese use both temporal lobes (颞叶) of their brain to understand the language. This is very different from English-language speakers who use only the left temporal lobe. Speakers of Chinese use intonation (语调) to tell between completely different meanings of particular words, which needs stronger cognitive abilities.
Besides, the practice of handwriting, especially of Chinese characters, will aid the development of motor skills, learning shapes and letters and will keep the mind sharp. Through the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, researchers found that neural (神经的) activity in children who practiced printing letters by hand was more strengthened than those who just looked at them. Compared with English, mostly written in line and from left to right, Chinese characters have more complex in structure (复杂的结构). Their writing involves strokes (笔画) in all four directions: up, down, left, and right. The movement of the fingers and hand helps improve neural activity in the working, thinking, and memory of the brain of the learners.
Evidence also suggests that there is a connection between the learning of Chinese and math skills. Researchers from New Zealand noticed that Asian children educated in their own languages appear to have gained a greater understanding of math ideas than English-speaking children. During the natural learning process of Chinese, the student is learning basic math ideas. Math skills are included in character writing because it includes skills such as counting, grouping, ordering, and identifying similarities and differences.
While the research on the relationship between the learning of Chinese and cognition is not yet fully clear, there is good evidence to suggest that learning Chinese tones and characters represents an added challenge to language learning.
32. What is the text centred on?
A. Why Asian children are better at math test.
B. Why Chinese is a difficult language to learn.
C. How learning Chinese benefits our cognition.
D. How Chinese writing differs from English writing.
33. What does the study by UK’s Wellcome Trust show?
A. English speakers should learn Chinese.
B. Chinese has more intonations than English.
C. Using Chinese needs a higher-level brain activity.
D. Mastering different meanings of Chinese is difficult.
34. Why is learning Chinese beneficial to solving math problems?
A. They need quite different cognitive abilities. B. Chinese writing looks like math symbols.
C. Chinese children naturally do well in math. D. They share several key cognitive abilities.
35. How is the text mainly developed?
A. By offering supporting findings. B. By comparing former research.
C. By discussing problems and solutions. D. By listing advantages and disadvantages.
【答案】32. C 33. C 34. D 35. A

Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】Dear Editor,
Space exploration shows how humans love to discover new things and create amazing technology. But now, people are arguing: is it worth spending so much money on space when Earth has big problems like pollution and poverty?
On the positive side, space projects help invent useful things like GPS and better hospital machines. But the cost is too high — NASA spent over $25 billion last year, which could build thousands of schools or clean up oceans. I think exploring space is good, but we must fix Earth’s problems first.
My idea is simple: spend less on space (maybe 1% of a country’s money) and use cleaner fuels for rockets. If we take care of our planet while reaching for the stars, everyone wins!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
72. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
During this past year, I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A JACK (千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.
He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw (锯子) from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.
I started taking the wheel off and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.
The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After they left, I got into my Jeep and opened the paper bag.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch. I told her I hadn’t had lunch because I’d been waiting here for help for nearly three hours. The girl said they didn’t have lunch either. She suggested to her parents that we have lunch together. Their truck happened to have some food and some things for the picnic. So we ate together in a vacant lot by the side of the road. During that time, I told about what had happened to me and how I felt. They shared interesting stories about their lives in Mexico and on fruit farms. After lunch, the girl’s mother put a paper bag of fruit in my jeep. I showed my gratitude again and we said goodbye to each other.
After they left, I got into my jeep and opened the paper bag. There are some delicate fruits in the paper bag. I was surprised to find the money I had quietly left them. At the same time, there was a note written by a girl, which read “We are very happy to be able to help you. We have encountered many difficulties and been disappointed. But we met a lot of helpful people, which made us feel very warm. To help others with one’s own ability is also a kind of lifting a finger. The beauty of life comes from these lifting a finger. I hope you have a good life and a happy mood.” This made me very moved, and I would try my best to help more people in the future to make our world more beautiful and warmer.

As parents, we always hope to develop character traits (特征) in our children that will enhance their success in life. When our daughter Meegan, the eldest of five children, lost her front tooth at the age of six, we found the following note wrapped around the tiny tooth.
Der Tooth Fairy,
Pleze leve me yor majik wand (杖). I want to be a tooth fairy, too.
Luv Meegan
Recognizing potential leadership skills, precious opportunity and the teachable moment, the “Tooth Fairy” left the following note for little Meegan:
Dear Meegan,
I have worked hard to be a good Tooth Fairy and I love my job. You are too young for the job just now so I cannot give you my wand. But there are some things that you can start to do to prepare yourself for the job:

28. Which statement is true about the Mengtian module according to the text?
A. It has docked with the Wentian lab module.
B. It is an significant part of Tiangong space station.
C. It is made up of four scientific experiment cabins.
D. It is heavier than all the other single-cabin spaceships.
29. Why did the author mention “China’s plan” in paragraph 4?
A. To present a fact. B. To explain a rule.
C. To clarify a concept. D. To make a prediction.
30. How will China explore the moon?
A. By sending men to the settlement of the moon.
B. By providing clear photos of the planet’s surface.
C. By sharing scientific data from its Tianwen-1 mission.
D. By setting up a moon base for multiple scientific activities.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. International Space Station Suffers Wear and Tear
B. Side by Side, China Works with UN Member States
C. Step by Step, China Finds Its Footing in Outer Space
D. Tiangong Space Station Is Established Little by Little

B Why Chinese is a difficult language to learn.

I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron.

My interest in the language was due to the passion of our eric lecture, and as the course progressed, my interest in the culture also grew. With that, I considered studying in the middle east, but ultimately decided on cairo due to its energetic cultural scene. However, in the city, we faced some chAllenges, including difficulties finding a hotel and accommodation as we were a group of unmarried individuals. Once settled, the culture shock was intense for some of us. One member of our group returned home within the first week. Luckily, I became accustom to the life in caro. Gradually, the biggest chAllenge of learning arabic is the disconnection between the written and the spoken forms. Despite these chAllenges, learning arab IC has been a rewarding experience, including absorbing my self in the culture and getting to know the locals, and even negotiating at a local market. Highlights were being invited to a traditional arabic meal at one of the locals home and being able to confidently communicate. Overall, this experience was outside of my comfort zone and allowed me to learn and grow in interesting ways I encourage others to consider involving themselves in new cultures and languages.
