Every October, my family goes to pick pumpkins and make our jack-o’-lanterns together. This year, Dad had great news, “I found a new pumpkin patch (南瓜田). Let’s go!”
On the way, my sister Indi and I wanted to pick one. But when we arrived, we found that animals had eaten most of the pumpkins. Indi was sad and asked, “What should we do?” Mom said gently, “It’s okay. We’re together—that’s the most important thing.” Dad quickly came up with a plan B. He said, “Let’s buy pumpkins at the stores.” But when we got to the stores, they were all out of pumpkins!
Just then, I had an idea. I said, “Maybe we could make our jack-o’-lantern out of other vegetables.” They loved my idea. We excitedly chose a big carrot together and laughed all the way home.
That evening, Mom washed the big carrot. Dad carved (雕刻) a funny face into it. Indi drew eyes on it. And I put a small candle in it. “This is the best jack-o’-lantern ever!” Indi said. The next day, we shared the jack-o’-lantern with our friends. It taught me that the best family stories come from facing difficulties together with love.

②Be calm. Sometimes, you feel so angry that you really want to teach somebody a lesson. But being angry can’t solve problems. Neither can a fight. Instead, it may bring you more problems. The school will punish everyone involved in (卷入) a fight. There are no winners in a fight.
③Shout loudly. If you know someone wants to attack you, put up your hands in front of your body and loudly say “stop” before walking away. If the person doesn’t stop, cry for help by calling out the name of a teacher whose office is nearby.
④Learn to say no. Your friend may ask you to join in a fight. Learn to refuse. Helping him fight is not really helpful to him. If you really want to give him a hand, try to ask him to give it up. Also, you can tell him if he gets involved in a fight, he may get hurt and be punished. Then, try to learn why he wants a fight and help him find a right way to deal with the problem.

5. What does the underlined word “one” in the second paragraph refer to (指代)?
A. A pumpkin. B. A face. C. A carrot. D. A candle.
6. Which of the following charts (折线图) best shows Indi’s feeling change in the story?
A. B. C. D.
7. Put the following events in the correct order.
a. The family couldn’t find any pumpkins in the stores.
b. They made a special jack-o’-lantern with a big carrot.
c. The family went to a new pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins.
d. The children shared their “carrot lantern” with their friends.
A. c-a-b-d B. a-c-b-d C. c-b-a-d D. a-b-c-d
8. What is the best title for the passage?
A. A New Pumpkin Patch
B. A Sad Trip to the Store Together
C. A Family-picking Activity
D. A Special “Carrot” Jack-o’-lantern
A 6. C 7. A 8. D
第一段提到的“goes to pick pumpkins”以及第二段划线词所在句“wanted to pick one”表明,作者和妹妹想要摘的是“一个南瓜”,故one指代a pumpkin。

根据划线词所在句“If you know someone wants to attack you, put up your hands in front of your body and loudly say ‘stop’...”
根据第一段“But how can you keep away from a fight? Here’s something you can do.”
The earth is getting hotter. We call it global warming ____13____ People burn things like gas and oil. They cut down trees and produce a lot of waste. These are the main reasons for global warming.
Global warming influences everything on the planet. It’s like getting a fever. When our temperature goes up, we feel sick. The same goes for our planet. The results of global warming are serious. For example, the snow and ice in the North Pole are starting to melt (融化). ____14____
Thankfully, we can help slow down global warming by taking some simple actions. Instead of driving, we can choose to walk or bike. ____15____ Another great way to help is by planting trees in our community and doing other “green” activities. Just by making some small changes in our daily lives, we can play a role in dealing with global warming.
____16____ Even small actions can make a big difference when millions of people do something. Governments can also help by making rules to cut pollution and protect the environment. If we care about our planet and take action now, we can keep it safe and healthy for ourselves and for our children.
A. There is still hope if we all work together.
B. Global warming is a serious problem.
C. What makes this serious problem happen?

E“This causes rising sea levels and more problems.”(这导致海平面上升和更多问题)中的This指代冰雪融化,说明了其带来的直接后果,符合因果逻辑。
D“Turn off appliances like TVs and lights.”(关掉电视和电灯等电器)是另一种具体的节能行动,与上下文构成并列关系。
A“There is still hope if we all work together.”(如果我们共同努力,仍有希望)奠定了本段积极、充满希望的基调,与后文“make a big difference”相呼应。

They took turns squeezing (挤) lemons and then mixed them with sugar and water to make tasty lemonade. Soon, neighbors stopped by. Mr. Thompson from across the street was their first customer (顾客). “This lemonade is so nice!” he said. Clara and Lily smiled proudly.
