How to Connect Exercise with Studying
Studies show adding physical activity to your study routine can boost focus and help you memorize information better. Here are ways to include exercise in your study process.
● Exercise just before you study.
Jog before a test or reviewing notes. Hit the gym on the way home to swim for a while to get ready for evening study. Doing aerobic (有氧) activity gets blood, oxygen, and nutrients to your brain, which helps your brain function better.
● Try light exercise while you study.
Performing light exercise while studying can help remember some information.
Intense exercise while studying may harm memory because your brain is focused on the workout instead of the information. To try this, take your textbook or notes to the gym. Use a stationary bike (静态单车) while you study for at least half an hour, making sure to keep the speed not too fast.
● Go to the gym right after studying.
Working out after studying can also enhance mental function and improve learning. Go for a walk or even lift weights after you study to help your brain stay active so your studying can pay off.
● Exercise at your desk.
Perform chair squats (蹲) at your desk: rise, lower without sitting, hold for 10 seconds, and repeat 20 times. Try wall sits: lower into a squat with wall support, hold it for 10 seconds or 20 times, and even lift one leg for added challenge.
21. Why does intense exercise during studying reduce effectiveness?
A. It lowers brain oxygen levels. B. It takes attention away.
C. It increases muscle injury risks. D. It lacks aerobic training.
22. Which exercise is recommended after studying?
A. Stationary biking. B. Chair squats. C. Weight training. D. A quick swim.
23. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To introduce steps for physical health.
B. To propose strategies for effective studying.
C. To explain the safety measures for exercise.
D. To offer exercise-study connection methods.

At my first lesson in Chinese calligraphy, my teacher told me clearly: “Now I will teach you how to write your name. And to make it beautiful.” I felt my breath catch. I was curious.
Growing up in Singapore, I had an unusual relationship with my Chinese name. My parents are ethnically Chinese, so they asked fortune tellers to decide my name, aiming for maximum luck. As a result, I ended up with a nonsense and embarrassing name: Chen Yiwen, meaning, roughly, “old”, “barley (薏米)” and “warm”.
When I arrived in America for college at 18, I put on an American accent and gave up my Chinese name. When I moved to Hong Kong in 2021, after 14 years in the States, I decided to learn calligraphy. Why not get back in touch with my root? I thought.
In calligraphy, the idea is to copy the old masters’ techniques, thereby improving your own. Every week, though, my teacher would give uncomfortably straightforward comments on me. “You need to be braver,” he once observed. “Have confidence. Try to produce a bold stroke (笔画).” For years, I had prided myself on presenting an image of confidence, but my writing betrayed (暴露) me.
I was trying to make sense of this practice. You must imagine the word as it is to be written and leave a little bit of yourself in it. As a bodily practice, calligraphy could go beyond its own cultural limits. Could it help me go beyond mine? My teacher once said to me, “When you look at the word, you see the body. Though a word on the page is flat, it carries rich meaning, showing the strength you’ve applied, the energy of your hold, the curve of your back.” I had been learning calligraphy to get in touch with my cultural roots, but what I was really seeking was a return to myself. Now I have sensed that the pleasure out of calligraphy allows me to know myself more fully.
During a recent lesson, my teacher pointed at the word I had just finished, telling me: “This word is much better. I can see the choices you made, your thoughts, your flow. Trust yourself. This word is yours.” He might as well have said, “This word is you.”
24. What did the author think of her name “Chen Yiwen” at first?
A. It was lucky so she gladly accepted it.
B. She felt proud of its symbolic meaning.
C. She thought the characters were beautiful.
D. She understood the intention but still disliked it.
25. The author decided to learn calligraphy to __________.
A.protect plants from being harmed B. reconnect with her root
C. understand a new culture D. fit in with local community
26. From the teacher’s words, the author learns that calligraphy __________.
A. mirrors the creator’s spirits B. comes from creative energy
C. highlights the design of strokes D. depends on continuous practice
27. What does the author intend to tell us?
A. Fortune favors the bold. B. Embrace who you truly are.
C. A great teacher leads you to truth. D. Planning is good, but doing is better.

Humans’ light at night does not spare even the sea from its glare (强光). Researchers published the first global map of ocean light pollution. It shows large parts of the sea are lit up at night. And that risks confusing or disrupting (扰乱)the behaviors of sea life.
Tim Smyth led a team to research the areas of the ocean where light pollution is strongest. Smyth and his colleagues started with a world map of man-made night-sky brightness that had been created in 2016. Then they added data on the ocean and atmosphere. Some data came from shipboard measurements of man-made light in the water. Others came from satellite images that judge how clear the water is. Particles (颗粒) in the water, such as tiny floating plants and animals, can affect how far downward light travels. These factors vary from place to place and may change with the seasons. The team also used computers to copy how different wavelengths of light move through water.
Next, they wanted to know how that underwater light might affect animals. Not all species will be easily affected. The team focused on copepods These common creatures are a key part of many ocean food chains. They use light as a signal to move all together to the dark deep, seeking safety from other surface creatures. Normally they use the sun or the winter moon as their signal. Too much man-made light can mess up their usual patterns.
Light pollution is strongest in about three feet of the water. Here, man-made light can be strong enough to confuse the copepods. Nearly 2 million square kilometers of ocean get such strong night light. That’s an area about the size of Mexico. Farther down, the light gets weaker. But even 65 feet deep, it’s still bright enough to bother copepods across 840,000 square kilometers of ocean.
The team published its findings on December 13 in Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene.
28. What does the underlined word “spare” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A. Protect B. free C. save D. avoid
29. Why are copepods sensitive to man-made light?
A. They rely on natural light signals to avoid enemies
B. They need bright light to look for food in deep sea
C. Strong light helps them build complete food chains
D. Moonlight and sunlight stop them moving downward
30. What can we learn from the text?
A. All sea animals are affected by light pollution.
B. Seawater particles change light’s moving distance.
C. Light pollution is worse at 65 feet than 3 feet.
D. Season has no influence on underwater light.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. The living habits of small sea copepods
B. Ways to stop ocean light pollution
C. Global ocean light pollution harms sea life
D. New ways to study ocean environment
D
Whether it’s biting your nails, or going to bed at 2 a.m., we all have those annoying habits we just can’t seem to kick. But have you ever wondered why these bad habits keep winning the battle against your best efforts and intentions?
Humans are creatures of habit, and our brains love doing things the same way. That’s why bad habits grow easily in the repeated actions like absentmindedly reaching for a cigarette. Another reason why your bad habits keep winning is that they often provide a quick dopamine (多巴胺) fix, creating a desire that keeps you coming back for more. Think of the immediate relaxation from a cigarette or mindless snacking. The payoff for doing these things is quick and easy, which is exactly what makes them so hard to break.
So what can you do? There are two main problems with breaking bad habits. First, it’s not as enjoyable as giving in to them. When we try to resist, there’s no pleasure, no dopamine and therefore no encouragement to keep doing so. Rather than trying to remove them entirely, try to replace them with something healthier instead, or create a reward system for yourself to introduce the positive behaviour.
Second, a habit is often an unconscious (无意识的) action, so making it conscious changes it into a choice. You’d better start with an intentional action. Accepting your actions without judgement helps you stay apart from the emotions that keep you tied to those habits, like guilt, shame and dissatisfaction. This increased awareness will lead you to make more intentional choices and break the automatic cycle of bad habits.
Knowing the psychology behind why your bad habits keep winning hopefully gets you to make more conscious, positive choices, and build the foundation for lasting behaviour change.
32. How does the writer introduce the topic?
A. By listing numbers. B. By explaining a reason.
C. By voicing an opinion. D. By raising a question.
33. What makes bad habits hard to break?
A. People’s desire to keep fit. B. Little knowledge of their effects.
C. Quick and easy satisfaction provided by them. D. People’s unwillingness to change.
34.What is a problem with breaking bad habits?
A. It is a conscious action. B. It is painful.
C. It takes much time. D. It calls for wisdom.
35. What can help kick a bad habit according to the passage?
A. Make active efforts. B. Judge your actions.
C. Ignore it. D. Turn to others for help.

In busy London’s underground, the warning words “Mind the gap (小心站台间隙)” echoed thousands of times every day. Most stations used modern electronic voices, except the northbound platform of Embankment Station. Its slow, deep voice was recorded in the 1960s by an actor named Oswald Laurence.
After Oswald passed away, his wife Margaret started a quiet routine. Nearly every day, she took the trip to Embankment Station. She never got on any train. She just stood by the platform edge, waiting quietly for that familiar voice. For ten long years, the old announcement was the only place on Earth where she could still hear her late husband. No staff knew her secret; they only saw an elderly lady coming to the station daily.
The year 2012 brought a big system update to London Underground. All old recorded announcements were replaced by new digital broadcasts. One morning, Margaret arrived as usual. She waited and waited, yet Oswald’s warm voice never came. Her heart sank instantly. She wandered around the station anxiously, not knowing what to do. After struggling for hours, she made up her mind to talk to the station manager.
Tears rolled down Margaret’s cheeks as she explained everything to the manager.

Text 10
Deng Yaping started playing ping-pong when she was five, taught by her father. (18) He often took her to the local sports center, where she watched older players and practiced copying their moves. When she was nine, she tried to join the provincial team (省队) but was refused because the coaches said she was too short. (19) But she didn’t lose confidence. She practiced harder than ever, hitting the ball thousands of times every day. Later, her hard work paid off. She was accepted by the national team. For many years, she traveled around the world to play in matches, winning lots of world titles and several Olympic gold medals. Her quick moves are great, but what I admire most about her is that she never gives up and always fights back when losing. (20)
After retiring, Deng Yaping kept learning. She studied further at different universities. She also did much charity work to help kids and players. She once said, “Nothing is impossible if you work hard enough.”

根据第四段“Intense exercise while studying may harm memory because your brain is focused on the workout instead of the information.(在学习时进行高强度运动可能会损害记忆力,因为此时你的大脑会把注意力集中在运动上,而不会集中于所学的内容)”可知,在学习时进行剧烈运动会降低学习效果因为这会分散注意力。故选B。
根据倒数第二段“Go for a walk or even lift weights after you study to help your brain stay active so your studying can pay off.(学习结束后,不妨出去走走,或者做一些力量训练,这有助于保持大脑的活跃状态,从而使你的学习成果更加显著)”可知,学习之后应该做举重训练。故选C。

根据第二段“As a result, I ended up with a nonsense and embarrassing name: Chen Yiwen, meaning, roughly, “old”, “barley (薏米)” and “warm”. 以及第三段“When I arrived in America for college at 18, I put on an American accent and gave up my Chinese name.
根据第三段“When I moved to Hong Kong in 2021, after 14 years in the States, I decided to learn calligraphy. Why not get back in touch with my heritage? I thought.
根据倒数第二段“My teacher once said to me, “When you look at the word, you see the body. Though a word on the page is flat, it carries rich meaning, showing the strength you’ve applied, the energy of your hold, the curve of your back.” 故选A项。
根据倒数第二段“I had been learning calligraphy to get in touch with my cultural roots, but what I was really seeking was a return to myself.

Humans’ light at night does not spare even the sea from its glare. 故选A。
定位第三段:桡足类依靠自然光信号集体潜入深海,躲避海面天敌(use light as a signal to move all together to the dark deep, seeking safety from other surface creatures)故选A,。
定位原文第二段:“Particles(颗粒) in the water, such as tiny floating plants and animals, can affect how far downward light travels. These factors vary from place to place and may change with the seasons.”,由此可知,B水里的浮游动植物微粒,会改变光线向下传播的距离;D季节会影响水下光线。定位原文第三段: “Next, they wanted to know how that underwater light might affect animals. Not all species will be easily affected.” 定位原文第四段:“Light pollution is strongest in about three feet of the water...Farther down, the light gets weaker.”
根据第一段中“But have you ever wondered why these bad habits keep winning the battle against your best efforts and intentions?(但是你有没有想过为什么这些坏习惯总是能战胜你的努力和意图?)”
根据第二段中“Another reason why your bad habits keep winning is that they often provide a quick dopamine (多巴胺) fix, creating a desire that keeps you coming back for more. Think of the immediate relaxation from a cigarette or mindless snacking. The payoff for doing these things is quick and easy, which is exactly what makes them so hard to break.(你的坏习惯总是占上风的另一个原因是,它们通常会提供迅速的多巴胺满足,产生一种让你不断想要更多的欲望。
根据第三段中“First, it’s not as enjoyable as giving in to them. When we try to resist, there’s no pleasure, no dopamine and therefore no encouragement to keep doing so.(首先,它不像屈服于它们那样令人愉快。
根据第三段中“Rather than trying to remove them entirely, try to replace them with something healthier instead, or create a reward system for yourself to introduce the positive behaviour.(与其试图完全去除它们,不如尝试用更健康的东西来替代它们,或者为自己创建一个奖励系统来引入积极的行为)”以及第四段中“This increased awareness will lead you to make more intentional choices and break the automatic cycle of bad habits.(这种意识的提高将引导你做出更有意识的选择,打破坏习惯的自动循环)”可知,有意识有目的地采取行动做出积极的努力有助于改掉坏习惯。故选A。

A. interest兴趣;B. knowledge知识;C. experience经验;D. idea主意。“had no...”
A. peaceful宁静的;B. deserted荒废的;C. modern现代的;D. empty空的。根据下文的“weeds were everywhere, and the few remaining plants looked weak”可知,花园了到处都是杂草,剩下的那些植物也显得十分虚弱。
A. step步骤;B. accident事故;C. event事件;D. theory理论。根据上文的句子“We start by pulling these weeds.” 故选A项。
A. give away泄露;B. give in屈服;C. give out分发;D. give up放弃。根据上文的“my back aching under the hot sun”可知,因为背疼,所以作者肯定是想放弃。故选D项。
A. While尽管;B. Unless除非;C. Because因为;D. If如果。“the physical labor was tough”与“the mental barrier was higher”对比转折关系,所以用“While”引导让步状语从句。故选A项。
A. take拿;B. make制作;成功;C. get得到;D. do做。
A. struggle挣扎;B. pain疼痛;C. willingness意愿;D. puzzle困惑。根据上文的“I had to constantly fight the voice in my head telling me I couldn’t 6 it.” 故选A项。
A. angrily愤怒地;B. proudly自豪地;C. gently温和地;D. nervously紧张地。
A. tried尝试;B. quitted停止;C. continued继续;D. kept保持。 根据上文“Don’t focus on the whole garden”和“Upon this simple advice, I changed my approach.”
A. possibly可能;B. suddenly突然;C. hardly几乎不;D. gradually逐渐。上文提到的“one square meter at a time”必然导致gradually (渐进式) 进步。故选D项。
A. tools工具;B. complaints抱怨;C. money金钱;D. skills技能。
下文的“Neat rows of new seedlings stood where weeds once ruled.
A. with带着;B. as作为;C. despite尽管;D. like像。“the decision to act”与空格后的it (代指上文的fear) 之间是让步转折关系,despite是唯一表让步的介词。故选C项。
A. stepping out of走出;B. looking for寻找;C. holding onto坚持;D. thinking about思考。 故选A项。
A. hide隐藏;B. doubt怀疑;C. discover发现;D. forget忘记。
56. are gathered 57. for 58. a 59. which 60. With
61. gradually 62. taking 63. to buy 64. others 65. happiness
56. are gathered 【
解析:考查固定短语be grateful for sth.
解析:考查固定短语with the development of...
解析:修饰动词短语come into being(形成),需用副词作状语,gradual adj.→gradually adv.
解析:固定句型make it+adj.+for sb. to do sth.,it作形式宾语,不定式为真正宾语。
64. others 【

Ladies and gentlemen,
Today I feel honored to have this chance to deliver a speech about the most respected scientist in my heart.
The scientist I admire most is Yuan Longping, who is known as “Father of Hybrid Rice”. For over half a century, Professor Yuan dedicated his life to agricultural research. Through countless experiments in rice fields under scorching sun, he successfully developed high-yield hybrid rice varieties which benefited mankind.
His life teaches us that true success comes from persistent dedication. He showed us how one person’s determination can nourish an entire nation.
Thank you for listening!
被认为是:be known as → be regarded as
展示:show→ demonstrate
荣幸的:honored→ privileged
Today I feel honored to have this chance to deliver a speech about the most respected scientist in my heart.
Today I feel honored to have this chance that allows me to deliver a speech about the most respected scientist in my heart.
1】The scientist I admire most is Yuan Longping, who is known as “Father of Hybrid Rice”.(运用了who引导的非限制性定语从句)
2】His life teaches us that true success comes from persistent dedication.(运用了that引导的宾语从句)
A possible version
Tears rolled down Margaret’s cheeks as she explained everything to the manager. She told the manager the voice belonged to her husband Oswald, who had recorded the tape decades ago. For ten years, Embankment Station was her secret shelter to feel close to him. The manager was deeply touched, shocked that none of the staff had noticed the lady’s true purpose. He promised to search the transport archives for the original recording tape, though he worried the old file might have been lost. Margaret left the office with trembling hope, praying that her husband’s voice could be saved one day.
It was in 2013 that the special announcement returned to Embankment Station. When the slow, familiar announcement “Mind the gap” spread across the platform again, Margaret smiled through her tears. Now every passenger passing by would hear Oswald’s voice, carrying an everlasting love story hidden under London’s busy streets. The underground noise never drowned this warm reminder: true love could outlive time, and some precious voices would never truly fade away.
• 动作词:wander around, make up one’s mind, search for
1. 定语从句:the voice belonged to her husband Oswald, who had recorded the tape decades ago(人物补充信息,高频高分结构)
2. 让步状语从句:though he worried the old file might have been lost(制造小波折,避免情节平铺直叙)
Margaret smiled through her tears(无连词细节描写,提升句式丰富度)
1. 内容分(10分):情节闭环,人物行为符合人设,全部用到指定关键词,无偏离原文;
2. 语言分(10分):时态全程一般过去时(记叙文黄金时态),长短句结合,无语法错误;
3. 连贯分(5分):段间逻辑衔接自然,结尾有主题升华,符合全国一卷阅卷偏好;
Her hands twisted nervously, fearing she would lose the last link to her husband.
2. 环境烘托技巧:可以加入underground cold wind, busy passengers等地铁环境词,增强画面感;
