I first came across tai chi in Ottawa. People gathered in loose formation. Their actions flowed together like a peaceful dance. I was amazed by its beauty and grace, like watching a water lily opening.
Yet I couldn't see the point. I could keep fit through swimming and cycling, but moving so slowly didn't seem to build muscle, my goal for all activities. I chose to admire this martial art (武术) but kept my distance.
Years later, a doctor's recommendation brought me to a training group for tai chi beginners. I aimed to master the 108 moves. However, I found it very difficult and always made mistakes. Seeing this, classmates comforted me that I would remember all the moves within three or four years. Three to four years! Even my graduate degree took less time. After weeks of imitation (模仿), I began to understand they were right. Commit and improve: That was the only path.
Another realization came to me in an advanced class. During basic exercises, the instructor singled me out. Though it was an honour, I was mortified. Others watched as the instructor corrected my positioning. “Don't bend,” he said, and I repeated the movement. “Keep your back straight,” he urged, and on it went — probably for only a few minutes, but it seemed like hours.
I couldn't just say, "I get it. " I had to show that I did. I concentrated as never before, listening, watching and willing my body to follow him. Pushing past the awkwardness to
refocus my attention, I developed a new mindset — truly listening and remaining open to correction.
I don't know that I will ever master all the moves. Instead, I have found an activity where growth is expected, even when my stubbornness (固执仙) got in the way. Gradually, i have become like a lily unfolding, awoken by this gentle martial art.

A. Angered B. Confused.
C.Disappointed. D. Embarrassed
29. How did the author react to the advanced class instructor?
A. By hiding her weaknesses and carrying on.
B. By working hard and displaying her talent.
C. By staying focused and following attentively.

In today's digital age, education is experiencing a great change. Traditional classrooms, once dominated (主导) by textbooks and face-to-face lectures, are gradually developing into modern multi-modal learning environments. In these new settings, students process information not only through words but also through images, audio, video and interactive digital tools. This transformation reflects how modern teenagers prefer to receive information.
Multi-modal learning makes use of sensory and digital forms to present materials. For example, a history lesson may combine textbooks with short films, interactive timelines and audio programs. This teaching method meets diverse learning needs: visual learners benefit from charts and videos, auditory (听觉的) learners improve by listening to speeches, and hands-on students learn better through practical activities and virtual experiences.
Research has shown advantages of multi-modal learning. A 2025 study by the Global Education Research Institute showed that students using such materials remembered 60% more information and were 45% more focused in class than those using traditional textbooks. They were also more willing to take part in class discussions and complete tasks.
Technology has greatly sped up this educational change. Smartphones and computers provide students with multi-modal learning resources. Learning platforms, including Khan Academy and TED-Ed, offer high-quality videos and interactive lessons. Meanwhile, teachers use digital whiteboards, virtual reality field trips and online programs to create interesting class experiences.
However, some challenges still exist. Critics warn that too much digital information may cause overload. The digital divide is another problem, since not all students have equal access to digital tools. Some educators also worry that overusing technology may reduce real communication and weaken critical(批判性的) thinking. Even so, these challenges are minor compared to the profound gains; by thoughtfully balancing digital integration with traditional wisdom, we ensure that multi-modal learning effectively empowers students for the 21st century.
31. What is a key feature of modern learning environments?
A. Satisfying different learning needs. B Requiring face-to-face lectures.
C. Developing teenage learning preferences. D. Combining diverse visual forms.
32. Why does the author mention the 2025 study?
A. To show the advantages of data correction.
B. To prove the importance of class discussions.
C. To support the benefits of multi-modal learning.
D. To compare the difference of learning materials.
33. How is Paragraph 4 mainly developed?
A. By analyzing causes. B. By listing examples.
C. By recording findings. D. By making comparisons.
34. What is the author's attitude towards digital educational tools?
A. Objective B. Critical. C. Doubtful. D. Supportive.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Digital Tools: A Key to Effective Learning.
B. Digital education: A Source of New Challenges.
C. Multi-modal Learning: A New Educational Trend.
D. Multi-modal Learning: A Guide to Future Classrooms.
