Volleyball became my sport for two reasons. Primarily, my parents wanted me to try out a sport that could make me enjoy workouts. I also knew that my mom loved playing it in Venezuela during her youth. I thought maybe I could feel the same. Indeed, I fell in love with it after just a couple of practices.
Between practices, I would stretch (伸出) my arms out, hold my hands together and push my wrists down to try to build muscle memory of the perfect platform. I would catch the ball, focusing on forming a triangular (三角形的) shape each time, with my right hand guiding the movement. Each time I’d release the ball upwards, I knew I was one try closer to getting it right. I worked tirelessly because I wanted to get better. I wanted to be great one day.
However, I lacked the head start most girls had. I started playing years after many other girls had. I was thrown into the deep end when the club where I practiced placed me on their most competitive team for my age group mid-season. Most of the girls did not welcome me. While this competition within and between teams was sometimes productive, it proved to be unhealthy. It was dangerous when it reached a tipping point. By the end of my freshman year of high school, I’d reached my breaking point.
Over four years, I only touched a volleyball a couple of times and only in casual settings. When the opportunity came to play with one of my best friends in a series of friendly matches, I hesitated. I eventually agreed, making it a point not to be so hard on myself. Volleyball finally brought the same enjoyment that had made me fall in love with it. I look forward to every opportunity I have to play now. I expect there will be more volleyball matches.

26. What can be drawn from the author’s team experience?
A. It improved her skills quickly. B. It taught her to handle teammates.
C. It kept her away from volleyball. D. It proved that hard work pays off.
27. What does the text indicate?
A. Early practice guarantees better performance.
B. Joy returns when you ease up on yourself.
C. A strict coach makes a great player.
D. Pressure sometimes breaks a person.

For decades, a strange climate change has confused scientists: while Earth’s surface and lower atmosphere undergo continuous warming, the stratosphere, a layer (层) ranging from 11 to 50 kilometers above the ground, has been gradually cooling. This opposite temperature transformation is regarded as a typical fingerprint of human-caused climate change, yet the specific physical mechanism accounting for this phenomenon has long remained unsolved.
A recent study conducted by Columbia University researchers has thrown light on this core mystery. The root cause lies in carbon dioxide’s unique response to infrared (红外线) wavelengths. Unlike its heat-trapping property near the Earth’s surface, CO2 in the stratosphere has the opposite effect. It absorbs infrared heat rising from lower layers and releases a large amount of it into outer space. Rising CO2 concentrations greatly improve the stratosphere’s heat-reducing efficiency, resulting in steady temperature drops.
Scientists have recognized this general trend since the 1960s. Statistical observations indicate that the stratosphere has cooled by roughly 2℃ since the mid-1980s, a figure over ten times the natural cooling rate without human carbon emissions. Nevertheless, the precise process driving such cooling lacked solid theoretical basis prior to this research.
The research team identified a “Goldilocks zone” of infrared wavelengths. Wavelengths within this narrow spectrum (光谱) are absorbed to a right degree, allowing CO2 to release heat into space most efficiently. As CO2 builds up in the atmosphere, this functional spectrum expands, greatly speeding up stratospheric cooling. This discovery also explains why cooling is gentle at the stratosphere’s bottom but extremely strong near its top.
The study also shows a key atmospheric adjustment. A cooled stratosphere emits (释放) far less infrared energy. Though extra CO2 improves its heat-reducing capability, the lowered overall heat emission reduces Earth’s total heat loss to space, further augmenting the greenhouse warming effect in the lower atmosphere.
Despite minor limitations for ignoring partial atmospheric elements, the new research is of great value. It provides accurate physical evidence for long-term climate change patterns and offers new insights into exploring the atmospheres of other planets.
28. What can we infer from the first two paragraphs?
A. Global warming stops the stratosphere from heating up.
B. CO2 functions differently in various atmospheric layers.
C. The stratospheric cooling is unrelated to human activities.
D. Scientists have fully understood stratospheric changes for long.
29. What do we know about the “Goldilocks zone” of infrared wavelengths?
A. It allows CO2 to absorb heat best.
B. It contributes to stratospheric cooling.
C. It narrows as CO2 builds up in the atmosphere.
D. It demonstrates fixed stratospheric temperature.
30. What does the underlined word “augmenting” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Weakening. B. Balancing. C. Strengthening. D. Removing.
31. What is the scientists’ attitude towards the new study?
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Favorable.
D
In nature, muscles never work alone. They are closely connected with the nervous system, which allows living things to feel the weight and shape of the objects they touch. To copy this amazing ability in robots, however, scientists usually have to fix heavy, separate sensors onto moving parts. This traditional method not only makes robots heavy and slow, but also delays their reactions. Across industries like humanoid (人形的) robotics and medical devices, there has been a continuous demand for a new class of smart driving materials to overcome these challenges.
Recently, a research team has solved this problem by creating a new “smart muscle” that can move and feel at the same time. Inspired by human tendons (肌腱), the team put tiny liquid metal channels directly into a flexible material called liquid crystal elastomer (LCE). This single structure connects two parts with different material properties in series, performing the roles of tendon and muscle respectively. When electricity passes through the liquid metal, heat is generated, causing the material to shrink (收缩) like a real muscle.
More importantly, when the material changes its shape during movement, the paths of the liquid metal channels inside are also changed. This directly changes the electrical resistance of the system. By monitoring these small electrical changes, the system can sense its own strength and movement length immediately, without using any outside sensors. This clever design allows robots to process movement commands and sensory response within one single material, realizing physical intelligence.
During laboratory tests, robotic fingers equipped with these smart muscles gently picked up easily-broken objects without breaking them. Even better, by setting up two artificial muscles as a competing pair operating in opposite directions, the system could automatically determine the hardness and size of different objects based only on the electrical signals from the muscle itself.
This breakthrough is very helpful for making future humanoid robots and artificial limbs (假肢). The next challenge for researchers is to improve the structure and active cooling technologies to pick up the cooling speed of the artificial muscle, making the production process smaller for daily use.
32. What is the main limitation of traditional robots?
A. Complex power supply. B. High production costs.
C. Slower reaction speed. D. Hard structural materials.
33. Why does the author use “More importantly” in paragraph 3?
A. To highlight the sensing process. B. To introduce an up-to-date material.
C. To explain the cause of heat generation. D. To contrast human and robotic tendons.
34. What does the robotic-finger experiment prove?
A. The flexibility of soft materials. B. The clever design of the system.
C. The sensitivity of electric signals. D. The softness of natural objects.
35. What is the immediate challenge for the researchers?
A. Improving the muscle strength. B. Speeding up the heating process.
C. Producing robots for daily use. D. Downsizing the production process.
Our culture divides labor into two opposing classes: intellectual (脑力) work and manual labor. Intellectual careers are seen as respectable, thoughtful and clean, while handwork is dismissed as lowly, physical and dirty. This hierarchy (等级观念) is so deeply rooted that we often forget that all work, even the most abstract, is eventually body work. ____36____
Think about a programmer sitting at a desk. Such a job seems to be purely mental, an operation of abstract symbols. But their body is doing the work: their fingers typing, eyes scanning, back held fixed for hours. ___37___ The same is true for a teacher, a lawyer, a manager, or any other knowledge worker. They use their voices, faces, and hands, constantly engaging their bodies.
____38____ It devalues the work of the body and the people who do it, leading us to ignore the physical toll (损失) that all work takes on us. If we recognize that all work is body work, we can start to break down the false hierarchy between mental and physical labor.____39____
Furthermore, this recognition encourages us to create more sustainable and healthy work environments. ____40____ We would be more likely to design comfortable workplaces and promote movement, valuing the whole person, mind and body together.
A. This physical reality extends beyond just one profession.
B. Under the rank system manual workers are treated unfairly.
C. The myth of the purely mental job is both inaccurate and damaging.
D. It can also lead us to a more humane and balanced approach to work.
E. We can thus see that the cleaner and the software engineer both deserve respect.
F. Companies could immediately invest in better office furniture for all employees.
G. Recognizing the truth is the first step to see through the unfair hierarchical thinking.

It was the last week of school when a heavy cloud fell over my friendship with Teena. We had always been the brightest students in our class, walking side by side like sisters. For the final exams, we revised (复习) tirelessly together, sharing notes until late at night. However, when the report cards were handed out, a shocking gap appeared: I scored excellent grades, while Teena received a surprisingly low mark.
The real blow came that evening. Teena called me, her voice thick with anger and tears. She blamed me for holding back my knowledge during our study hours. “You were dishonest!” she shouted, her sharp words echoing painfully in my ears. “A true friend wouldn’t secretly keep the best revision methods to herself!” Before I could defend myself, she hung up the phone.
In the days that followed, the silence between us was deafening. Sometimes I forgot that we were no longer talking and ended up calling her when I had something exciting to share, but she just ignored my calls. School became completely unbearable. Teena avoided my eyes in the hallway and sat as far away from me as possible. I deeply missed our post-school routines-buying sweet ice cream and snacks on our way to after-school classes, sharing silly jokes, and laughing together. The weight of the unresolved conflict dragged me down until I couldn’t bear it anymore.
On a cloudy Friday afternoon, I decided to face Teena and try to mend our broken friendship. I nervously approached her after school. She stopped and turned around, her face a mixture of surprise and cold doubt.
The air was tense, but I took a deep breath and began, “Teena, we’ve been friends for three years, and I can’t let a fight over grades ruin that.” She crossed her arms tightly, holding on to her remaining anger, and replied coldly, “Explain then, because I still can’t understand how you got such good grades when we studied together.”
注意:
(1)续写一段,词数应为 80 个左右;
Looking into her defensive eyes, I took a step closer.

B

根据第一段中“Primarily, my parents wanted me to try out a sport that could make me enjoy workouts. (首先,我的父母想让我尝试一项能让我享受锻炼的运动)”可知,作者选择打排球是为了从锻炼中找到快乐。
【25题详解】
推理判断题。第二段“Between practices, I would stretch (伸出) my arms out, hold my hands together and push my wrists down to try to build muscle memory of the perfect platform. I would catch the ball, focusing on forming a triangular (三角形的) shape each time, with my right hand guiding the movement. Each time I’d release the ball upwards, I knew I was one try closer to getting it right. I worked tirelessly because I wanted to get better.(在练习间隙,我会伸出双臂,双手交握,向下压腕,试图建立完美垫球平台所需的肌肉记忆。我会接住球,每次都专注于形成三角形,用右手引导动作。每一次将球向上垫出,我都知道自己离正确更近了一步。我不知疲倦地练习,因为我想变得更好)”可知,作者详细描述了练习排球时的具体动作细节,本段通过列举具体的动作和细节来展开。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“I started playing years after many other girls had. I was thrown into the deep end when the club where I practiced placed me on their most competitive team for my age group mid-season. Most of the girls did not welcome me. While this competition within and between teams was sometimes productive, it proved to be unhealthy. It was dangerous when it reached a tipping point. By the end of my freshman year of high school, I’d reached my breaking point.(我在其他许多女孩开始打球很多年后才起步。当我训练的俱乐部在赛季中期将我安排在他们同年龄段最具竞争力的队伍时,我就像被抛入了深水区。大多数女孩并不欢迎我。虽然这种队内及队间的竞争有时能带来进步,但结果证明它是不健康的。当这种竞争达到一个临界点时,它就变得危险了。到高一学年结束时,我达到了崩溃的临界点)”以及第四段中“Over four years, I only touched a volleyball a couple of times and only in casual settings. (在四年多的时间里,我只在休闲场合碰过几次排球)”可知,竞争激烈的团队经历让她远离了排球。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“When the opportunity came to play with one of my best friends in a series of friendly matches, I hesitated. I eventually agreed, making it a point not to be so hard on myself. Volleyball finally brought the same enjoyment that had made me fall in love with it.
C
A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Favorable.
B 29. B 30. C 31. D

根据第二段“Unlike its heat-trapping property near the Earth’s surface, CO2 in the stratosphere has the opposite effect.(与地球表面附近的吸热特性不同,平流层中的二氧化碳具有相反的效果。)”
根据第四段“Wavelengths within this narrow spectrum (光谱) are absorbed to a right degree, allowing CO2 to release heat into space most efficiently. As CO2 builds up in the atmosphere, this functional spectrum expands, greatly speeding up stratospheric cooling.(该窄光谱内的红外线能被适度吸收,让二氧化碳最高效地向太空散发热量。大气二氧化碳增多时,这一功能光谱范围扩大,大幅加速平流层降温。)”可知,红外波长的“Goldilocks zone”会促成平流层降温。
【30题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第五段“Though extra CO2 improves its heat-reducing capability, the lowered overall heat emission reduces Earth’s total heat loss to space, further augmenting the greenhouse warming effect in the lower atmosphere.(尽管额外的二氧化碳提高了其减热能力,但总热量排放的降低减少了地球向太空流失的总热量,进一步augmenting低层大气的温室变暖效应。)”
根据最后一段“Despite minor limitations for ignoring partial atmospheric elements, the new research is of great value. It provides accurate physical evidence for long-term climate change patterns and offers new insights into exploring the atmospheres of other planets.(尽管该新研究因忽略部分大气元素而存在微小局限,但极具价值,为长期气候变化模式提供精准物理证据,也为探索其他行星的大气带来新思路。)”

Dear Eric,
Hearing that you’re going to travel in China, I’m writing to recommend Suzhou to you.
Suzhou is well-known for classical Chinese gardens and ancient canals, which perfectly show traditional Chinese beauty. Unlike busy big cities, it offers peaceful scenery with delicate pavilions, clear ponds and lovely rockeries. Besides, you can experience traditional arts like Kunqu Opera and woodblock printing there. Local tasty snacks will also bring you a wonderful food trip. What’s more, walking through quiet water towns allows you to slow down and feel real Chinese daily life.
I believe this amazing city will leave you an unforgettable impression. Looking forward to your arrival.
Yours,
Li Hua

2】 I believe this amazing city will leave you an unforgettable impression.
注意:
(1)续写一段,词数应为 80 个左右;
Looking into her defensive eyes, I took a step closer.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Looking into her defensive eyes, I took a step closer. “Teena, I never hid anything from you,” I said softly. “But I did practice extra past papers alone at dawn — not to beat you, but because I was terrified of failing.” Her arms slowly loosened, and her eyes softened with understanding. I pulled out a folder of those papers and pressed it into her hands. “Next term, we start earlier, together.” A trembling smile broke across her face, and she hugged me tightly. Above us, the clouds parted, letting warm sunlight wrap around our restored friendship.
①隐瞒:hide/conceal/cover up
②拥抱:hug/embrace
①害怕的:terrified/scared/frightened
②温柔地:softly/gently
【点睛】[高分句型1] “But I did practice extra past papers alone at dawn — not to beat you, but because I was terrified of failing.”(运用了because引导的原因状语从句)
[高分句型2] Above us, the clouds parted, letting warm sunlight wrap around our restored friendship.(运用了现在分词letting作伴随状语)
