Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology (SUAT) announced that five cutting-edge medical devices developed by the university were successfully launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China on Monday.
The devices will undergo three years of in-orbit experiments, marking a significant step toward building the world’s first space hospital. SUAT is the world’s first educational institution (机构) to propose the concept of a future space hospital. In July 2025, the university partnered with the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the project, which aims to enhance astronaut health and expand in-orbit medical monitoring and life-support capabilities.
The future space hospital is expected to make progress in aerospace, medicine, and biology, while advancing cutting-edge research in space life and health support. It will also support research related to non-astronaut space travel and other space health support needs.
“As global competition in space exploration intensifies (激化), China is stepping up its efforts to fix major technological shortages,” said Zhu Dijian, the university’s top leader. “The health challenges astronauts face in space have become a major focus of scientific research. By joining advantages in medical devices, biomedicine, and innovative healthcare technologies with aerospace skills, we aim to build a next-generation space medicine platform and secure a leading position for China in this field.”
According to Xu Zhiming, who first proposed the space hospital concept, the project will be implemented in three phases. The first phase — adapting advanced medical technologies for space applications and conducting in-orbit experiments—is now underway with the current launch. The second phase will involve establishing (建立) an in-orbit space hospital station to provide emergency medical aid and support scientific research in space. In the final phase, medical modules will be built on the moon or other planets to support human lunar missions and space travel.

The first people to go into space only went for short trips to see what it was like. 56 We all know that living in space is very different from living on the Earth. So, what’s astronauts’ daily life like?
Astronauts brush their teeth in the normal way as we do, but there is a difference! On the International Space Station (ISS), there is no gravity like on earth, so everything including the water and toothpaste floats around. 57 The toothpaste astronauts use can be swallowed after they brush their teeth and the mouth is then cleaned with a wet paper napkin.
Nutrition plays an important role in keeping the health of the astronauts. 58 For example, American astronaut John Young took a sandwich into space in 1965. It almost caused a great accident. If its tiny pieces had got into space plane’s electronics, it could have caused serious problems. 59
Without gravity, people will have lots of health problems such as bone and muscle loss. So, there is a running machine and a special exercise bicycle on the ISS. Astronauts have to do at least 2 hours of exercise every day to keep in good shape. There are also some pulleys (滑轮) and ropes. 60
A.So astronauts’ food is specially prepared.
B.However, not all the food can be taken to space.
C.All these help them maintain the condition of their bones and muscles.
D.Today astronauts can spend weeks or even months living and working in space.
E.They have to do it with their mouths closed to prevent the toothpaste floating out!
When I was a little kid, I would lie on the grass in my backyard, looking up at the starry sky. That’s when my love for space exploration began. I dreamed of becoming 61 astronaut, flying among the stars and planets.
However, space exploration is a difficult task. Astronauts need 62 (master) multiple disciplines like math, physics, and engineering. They also have to be brave and strong to deal with all the challenges in space.
Thanks to spacecraft, we can now learn more about the universe. For example, the Mars rovers (火星探测器) we sent to Mars analyze the Martian soil. 63 (important), finding water on Mars matters for looking for life and future settlement. The data these missions send back helps scientists understand the solar system 64 (good).
The Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969 was a historic moment for humanity. When Armstrong and Aldrin stepped on the moon, it showed what 65 (human) could achieve in space.
In recent years, China 66 (make) great progress in space exploration. The Shenzhou series are significant milestones. 67 , we have built our own space station, Tiangong. Tiangong serves as a multi-functional platform for scientific research, 68 (include) studies on microgravity physics, life sciences, and space astronomy. It helps Chinese astronauts do long-term space missions and aids the world in understanding space. This remarkable achievement makes me extremely 69 (pride) of my country.
I hope to join the space exploration team one day. By studying aerospace-related fields, I believe my dream will come true. The future 70 space exploration is full of possibilities, and I can’t wait to be part of it.

57.根据“On the International Space Station (ISS), there is no gravity like on earth, so everything including the water and toothpaste floats around.”
58.根据“Nutrition plays an important role in keeping the health of the astronauts.”以及“For example, American astronaut John Young took a sandwich into space in 1965. It almost caused a great accident.”
59.根据“If its tiny pieces had got into space plane’s electronics, it could have caused serious problems.” 故选A。
60.根据“Without gravity, people will have lots of health problems such as bone and muscle loss. So, there is a running machine and a special exercise bicycle on the ISS. Astronauts have to do at least 2 hours of exercise every day to keep in good shape. There are also some pulleys (滑轮) and ropes.”
