Blake Miller is a well-known and busy businessman. One day, he finally managed to spare some time and take his father out to a fancy (高档的) restaurant for a special meal.
As they stepped into the restaurant, the soft and beautiful violin music immediately caught their attention. A young and talented violinist was standing in a corner of the restaurant, playing with all his heart. The customers in the restaurant were all lost in the wonderful music.
While enjoying the music, Blake’s memories came flooding back like a powerful tide (潮水). He remembered that when he was young, he had once been crazy about the violin. Back then, he would spend a lot of time practicing the violin every day. Every time he played, he could feel the joy and satisfaction deep in his heart. However, as time went by, he gradually devoted (投入) all his energy to his business and had to give up his beloved violin in order to pursue (追求) his career.
At this moment, he couldn’t help but say to his father, “If I had kept up with the violin, maybe I would be playing here now.” His father nodded slowly, with his eyes full of love and understanding. “Yes, my child. But in that case, you wouldn’t be dining here now.” he replied gently. Then his father continued after a moment of silence, “Life is full of different choices. People can take completely different paths and live quite different lives. But everyone should keep this in mind: There is no ‘if’ in life and every choice has its meaning. The best thing to do is to value what we have in the present moment.”
6. What did the violinist remind Blake Miller of?
A. His long lost dream. B. His favorite music.
C. His successful business. D. His expensive violin.
7. Why did Blake give up playing the violin?
A. Because he lost interest in it. B. Because he was busy doing business.
C. Because his father didn’t support him. D. Because he found it too difficult to improve.
8. Which words can best describe Blake’s father according to the last paragraph?
A. Honest and friendly. B. Strict and serious.
C. Understanding and wise. D. Outgoing and humorous.
9. What might the underlined sentence try to tell us?
A. Past choices have little influence on us.
B. There is no need to regret the road not taken.
C. Regret is a natural part of everyone’s life.
D. Even a small mistake can change a person’s life.
10. What is the best title for the text?
A. A fancy restaurant B. The love of music.
C. Live in the here and now D. The violinist’s secret
【答案】6. A 7. B 8. C 9. B 10. C
根据第三段“Blake’s memories came flooding back... He remembered that when he was young, he had once been crazy about the violin... had to give up his beloved violin.”可知,小提琴手让Blake想起了曾经热爱但为了事业不得不放弃的梦想。
【7题详解】
根据第三段“he gradually devoted all his energy to his business and had to give up his beloved violin in order to pursue his career”可知,他是因为全身心投入生意/追求事业而放弃了小提琴。
【8题详解】
根据最后一段“with his eyes full of love and understanding”以及父亲富有哲理的开导可知,父亲是善解人意且充满智慧的。
【9题详解】
划线句意为“生活中没有‘如果’,每一个选择都有其意义”,结合父亲后文提到的“value what we have in the present moment”,意在告诉人们不要为未选择的路(the road not taken)感到后悔,要接受当下的生活。
【10题详解】
文章通过Blake的故事引出最后一段的主旨句“The best thing to do is to value what we have in the present moment”,因此“Live in the here and now”是最合适的标题。
C
①We can see circles, squares and triangles everywhere in our daily life. Have you thought about their meanings in films? Much like colors, different shapes can show different features of characters in the scenes.
②Circles represent (代表) things that are soft and natural. The round shape reminds us of things that appear in nature, like the sun, raindrops and so on. We can also connect circles with beautiful eyes, babies’ round faces. . . All these things make us feel happy and warm. This is why so many cartoon characters’ bodies—heroes, good people—are round in shape, because circles represent goodness, happiness and friendliness.
③Squares show things that are unnatural or man-made, or things that are boring or old-fashioned. In Up, Carl has a square face and wears square glasses, while Russell, an 8-year-old boy with a round face, always wears round medals. These shapes show the characters’ personalities. Carl is stubborn (执拗的) and lonely, while Russell is lovely and full of energy.
④The angriest shape is the triangle. Every kid who draws a monster with sharp teeth draws a row of triangles, don’t they? That’s because the shape represents fear, distrust and doubt in some way. Look at the bad guys in cartoons—they are all drawn with plenty of points and triangles (稳固的), like Shengongbao in Ne Zha. And triangles are stable (稳固的) and don’t easily fall down. In films, this feature makes bad people difficult to deal with.
⑤Not only in cartoons, but also in other kinds of films, different shapes are used for the same purpose. So, try to find the hidden shapes and you will know what the characters are like.
根据材料内容选择最佳答案。
11. The writer explains the relationship between squares and personalities of cartoon characters by ________.
A. telling a story B. giving an example
C. raising a question D. showing the results of a study
12. Why is Shengongbao mentioned in Paragraph 4?
A. Because kids think he is a monster.
B. Because he has a row of sharp teeth.
C. Because he is a bad guy in the film.
D. Because he is not easy to deal with.
13. What does the underlined word”triangle”refer to?
A. B. C. D.
14. Which of the following is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
15. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. Why different shapes represent different things.
B. What makes heroes in films have great charm.

D. How to make cartoons with different colors and shapes.

In our life, we may meet different kinds of challenges. But how can we deal with them to make ourselves better? Here is my story.
Last term, I was really weak in math. The complex and difficult problems made me lose confidence. However, I didn’t want to give it up. I made a study plan. I asked my math teacher for help after class and spent more time doing math exercises every day. Gradually, I began to understand the knowledge better.

A. Honest and friendly. B. Strict and serious.
C. Understanding and wise. D. Outgoing and humorous.
9. What might the underlined sentence try to tell us?
A. Past choices have little influence on us.
B. There is no need to regret the road not taken.
C. Regret is a natural part of everyone’s life.
D. Even a small mistake can change a person’s life.
10. What is the best title for the text?
A. A fancy restaurant B. The love of music.
C. Live in the here and now D. The violinist’s secret

C. What different shapes represent in films.
D. How to make cartoons with different colors and shapes.
