On the side of the road in the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve in Qinghai Province, you might see a fat wolf. It wags its tail in front of the passing cars. It hopes to get a meal.
However, the wolf was skin and bones a few months ago. It’s said that the old hungry wolf was forced to leave the wolf pack because it was not good at hunting. But that all changed after a passing driver gave it two pies and posted a video of it online. The video made the wolf very popular, and a lot of people came to the area to provide it with food.
Since then, the wolf has given up its hunting instinct and turned to passers-by for snacks. The snacks are high in oil, sugar and salt, such as pies, roasted chicken and sausages. Later, more wolves have joined this behaviour. The wolf’s change makes it look like a pet dog. But the change means that it is losing its ability to live in nature, and that may cause the wild animal to die.
In fact, it is common for wild animals like wolves and bears to be fed near the roads in provinces. People care about wild animals, but their feeding sometimes can cause harm to both animals and themselves. If a wild animal needs help, people are suggested to report it to the government for professional handling (专业处理).

Major Snow, the 21st solar term (节气) of the year, falls on Dec 7 this year. It means the beginning of midwinter. During Major Snow, the temperature drops greatly and there may be more snow days.
The arrival of snow adds a delightful touch to the cold days. The snow in North China may go on a whole day, breaking tree branches and blocking the road while snow doesn’t happen a lot, but just a little, great fun in the South.
The natural scenery is “ice blockading for hundred smiles and snow flying through thousands miles”, “From hill to hill no bird in flight; From path to path no man in sight”. In the South, the snowflakes fly around and the world turns white.
There’s a Chinese saying: “A fall of snow gives promise of a fruitful year.” Most farmers welcome snow because snow can protect crops from cold fronts and keep the fields warm. Even if it melts (融化), it also can provide enough water for the crops in the spring.
Snow season is also good for skiing and skating. In northern China, there are many places for natural snow and ice. For example, Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces often already have big snow in November. People can also go to the frozen lakes to play ice sports. But people in the south will stay indoors to enjoy the winter activities. People in Chongqing like to have potted lamb soup or stewed lamb soup with their families and friends. People in Nanjing like to stew the lamb with yams or wolfberries to make it more delicious.
33.How does the writer describe the beauty of snow?
A.By giving examples. B.By introducing activities.
C.By showing pictures. D.By using sayings and poems.
34.What does the underlined sentence mean in Paragraph 4?
A.A fall of snow can lead to a fruitful year.
B.A fall of snow can be dangerous to a fruitful year.
C.A fall of snow can help farmers harvest much fruit.
D.A fall of snow can prevent farmers from a good harvest.
35.What can we know about Major Snow from the passage?
A.During Major Snow, the temperature falls greatly.
B.Major Snow is the most beautiful term among all.
C.People in the north like to stay indoors to enjoy the winter activities.
D.All the farmers like snow because it can offer enough water to the crops.
36.The following paragraph can go best after _________.
During Major Snow, it is drier and colder, so people should drink more water. At the same time, don’t drink cold water after exercise.
A.Paragraph 2 B.Paragraph 3 C.Paragraph 4 D.Paragraph 5

Buck did not read the newspapers, or he would know that trouble was coming.
In fact, trouble was on its way for every strong dog with warm long hair. This was because men, going through the Arctic (北极的) darkness, had discovered a yellow metal gold. And because shipping and transportation companies were advertising the discovery, thousands of men were rushing into the Northland. These men wanted heavy dogs, with strong muscles for working and thick coats to protect them from the cold.
Buck lived at Judge Miller’s house in the sunny-kissed Santa Clara Valley. There were big stables(马厩), long grape fields, fruit gardens and a big swimming pool. Buck ruled over the whole kingdom. Here he was born and here he had lived the four years of his life. He protected the Judge’s sons and daughters at long midnight or early morning walks. On cold winter nights he lay at the Judge’s feet in front of the warm library fire. He was king—king over, crawled (爬行的), walked, or flew at Judge Miller’s place.
Buck was this kind of dog in the autumn of 1897, when the discovery of gold in the Klondike pulled men from all over the world into the frozen North. But Buck did not read the newspapers. He did not know that Manuel, one of gardener’s helpers, was not to be trusted. Manuel loved to gamble (赌博). He believed he could win but he was doomed to failure.
On the night of Manuel’s betrayal (背叛), no one saw him and Buck go off through the fields. Buck imagined it to be a relaxing walk. They arrived at a little train. A man talked with Manuel and money passed between them. Manuel tied a piece of thick rope around Buck’s neck. Buck accepted it quietly. To be sure, it was unwanted, but Buck had learned to trust men he knew. However, when the ends of the rope were placed in the stranger’s hands, he barked. Then, the rope tightened (收紧) painfully, his tongue hanging out of his mouth. Then his strength disappeared, his eyes grew dim (浑浊), and he knew nothing when the train pulled up. Two men threw him into the baggage car.
37.Why were thousands of men rushing into the Northland?
A.Because they could live a better life there.

He gave other boys some of the things he had from letting others paint the fence and got more tickets. Some were blue, some were red, and some were yellow. Finally, he had enough to get a new book.
That Sunday, the new girl came to Sunday school for the first time. Her parents came too, and the children learned that her father was a very important judge. The girl’s name was Becky Thatcher. The Sunday school teacher wanted to show Judge Thatcher that it was a good class. He asked if any of the boys or girls had enough tickets for a new book. Everybody was very surprised when Tom stood up. The Sunday school teacher was more surprised than anybody else. He counted the tickets. There were enough for a new book.
