Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom. 了解自己是一切智慧的起点。
Knowing yourself是动名词短语作主语,谓语动词用单数is。

get angry easily 容易生气;get angry 系动词用法,get 在这里=become,后接形容词,表“变得……”;如:He gets nervous before exams. 他考试前会变得紧张。

-主句+ (that)宾语从句,that可以省略;宾语从句可用于主句动词之后,常见的动词有 know、think、believe、hope、mean、say等;引导宾语从句的 that 没有词义,不充当句子成分,在口语或非正式文体中常被省略。如:I do not believe (that) he will give up easily. 我相信他不会轻易放弃。
-involve vt. 包含,需要;牵涉;involve doing sth 包含做某事、需要做某事;be involved in//with被卷入……;涉及到……//全心全意投入于……;如:
Learning English well involves practicing every day. 学好英语需要每天练习。
She says government has to be involved in requiring clear language because the marketplace has not dealt with the problem. 她说,政府必须介入并要求使用清晰明了的表述,因为市场尚未解决这个问题。
She was deeply involved with the local hospital.她曾全心投入当地医院。
3. I’m careless sometimes, especially with numbers. 我有时会粗心大意,尤其是在处理数字方

-accountant n. 会计;account n. 账户;an accountant一名会计;如:His mother works as an accountant in a big company. 他妈妈在一家大公司当会计。
-neither adv. 也不;det. & pron. 两者都不;
neither 专指“两者都不”,主要有以下几种核心用法:
限定词(形容词性):后接单数可数名词,谓语用单数。
Neither answer is right.两个答案都不对。
代词:可单独用或接 of,作主语时谓语通常用单数(非正式可用复数)。
Neither of the books is/are mine.这两本书没有一本是我的。
连词:与 nor 构成 neither...nor...(既不……也不……),连接并列成分;连接主语时谓语遵循就近原则。
Neither you nor I am wrong.你和我都没错。
“neither + 助动词/情态动词/be动词 +主语”结构,表示前面否定的情况也适用于后者,意为“……也不”。I don't like this movie. Neither does he. 我不喜欢这部电影。他也不喜欢。
注意:In neither case can I agree. 两种情况我都无法同意。(句子里用can I,不用I can。)
-nor conj. & adv. 也不;
nor用来连接否定的并列成分,放在not, no, never 等否定词后,表示“也不”,与 or 的用法类似。如:The house was never clean nor tidy. 房子从不干净,也不整齐。
与neither连用,构成neither…nor…结构(既不……也不……)。连接主语时谓语遵循就近原则。
“nor + 助动词/情态动词/be动词 +主语”结构,表示前面否定的情况也适用于后者,意为“……也不”。
-neither ... nor ... 既不…也不…;(连接主语时谓语动词遵循就近原则。)如:
Neither you nor he likes maths. 你和他都不喜欢数学。
Neither he nor you like maths. 他和你都不喜欢数学。
注意:neither here nor there不重要;// neither fish nor fowl非驴非马, 不伦不类;
5. I would be good at creative jobs, I suppose. 我想,我应该适合从事需要创造力的工作吧。
suppose vt. & vi.认为,推断;假设;supposed adj.假定的;be supposed to…应该……;如:
I suppose he is right.我猜想他是对的。
Suppose it rains, we stay home.要是下雨,我们就待家里。
You are supposed to be quiet.你应该保持安静。
Reading--- People who are happy with their jobs(P8-11)
1. People who are happy with their jobs. 对工作感到满意的人。//It introduces four people in Sunshine Town who are happy with their jobs.文章介绍了阳光镇里四位对工作感到满意的人。
be happy with…对……感到满意= be satisfied with…= be pleased with…;与…在一起很高兴;如:The teacher is happy with our homework. 老师对我们的作业很满意。
Just be happy with what you have had.知足常乐。I'd be happy with a discount.其实能打个折我就很高兴了。
句中who are happy with their jobs是定语从句,修饰前面的名词people.
2.“He’s a born artist. He’s quiet, but his work shouts.” (page 8, lines 1–2)“他是一位天生的艺术家。他很安静,但是他的作品却极具说服力。”
句中的 his work shouts 运用拟人这一修辞手法,传神地表达出很多艺术家的一种特性——用作品说话。句中 quiet 与 shout 形成强烈的对比,强化了语言效果。如:
He is shy, but his songs touch people. 他很腼腆,但他的歌声打动人心。
a born artist 天生的艺术家;born adj. 天生的;与生俱来的;如:
She is a born singer. 她是一位天生的歌手。
3. This is how Wu Wei’s best friend described him. 这是吴伟最好的朋友对他的评价。
句中how Wu Wei’s best friend described him是表语从句,整个句子作表语。
4. Wu Wei’s creative work impresses not only his friends but also the whole town.吴伟的创意作

-impress vt. 使留下深刻的好印象;impression n. 印象;impressive adj. 令人印象深刻的; impress sb. with sth. 用某物给某人留下印象;be impressed by对…印象深刻;leave a good impression on sb. 给某人留下好印象;如:Her kindness impressed all the people around her. 她的善良给周围所有人留下了深刻印象。
The young artist has impressed the whole country with his creative work.这位年轻的艺术家以其富有创意的作品震撼了整个国家。
I hope my son would leave a good impression on the judges. 我希望我的儿子能给评委留下好的印象。
That was an impressive performance from such a young tennis player.这么年轻的网球选手居然打得那么好。
I was impressed by his speech.他的演讲让我印象深刻。
补充:日常中 be impressed with 也常通用,细微区别是 by 更强调“被…触动”,with 更侧重“对…内在品质的认可”。
- not only… but also… 不仅……而且……(就近原则);如:
Not only Lily but also her friends have been to Suzhou twice.不仅是莉莉,她的朋友们也去过苏州两次。
5. His sculptures for Sunshine Town Square have won high praise from the art community.他为阳光镇广场创作的雕塑作品获得了艺术界的极高评价。
praise n./v. 赞扬、表扬;win high praise from… 从……赢得高度赞扬;如:

-together with…与……一同;插入语,谓语动词的就远原则。同类短语还有:along with, as well as, except等等。如:
My teacher, together with his students, likes reading. 老师和同学们都喜欢阅读。
-connecting Sunshine Town to Tianjin是动词的现在分词作后置定语修饰前面的名词the high-speed railway project,相当于定语从句:which connects Sunshine Town to Tianjin。如:
I have a book telling stories about space. 我有一本讲述太空故事的书。
= I have a book that tells stories about space.
The girl singing in the room is my sister. 房间里唱歌的女孩是我妹妹。
= The girl who is singing in the room is my sister.
11. As the lead engineer, he is serious about his work and pays attention to every detail. 作为项目负责人,他对待工作极为认真,注重每一个细节。
- be serious about…认真对待…;Time to be serious about children's health care. 是时候认真对待儿童的健康护理了。
-pay attention to sth 注意、重视某事;to是介词,后面+名词/doing。如:
You must pay attention to your spelling. 你必须注意你的拼写。
12. “To us, a miss is as good as a mile. Any mistake may cost lives,” said Mr. Liu. (page 9, lines 23–24)刘先生说:“对我们来说,失之毫厘,谬以千里。任何错误都可能要付出生命的代价。”
(1) 句中的 a miss is as good as a mile 是英语谚语:失之毫厘,谬以千里。
(2) 句中的 miss 是名词,意思是“未击中,未到达,错过”。如:
He hit the target five times without a single miss. 他五次都命中目标,无一失手。
(3) 句中 cost 的意思是“使丧失,使损失”。如:
His mistake cost them the game. 他的错误让他们输掉了整场比赛。

so that在句中的意思是“以便、为了”,表示目的,常带 can/could。如:

拓展:so that还有“所以、结果是”的意思,表示结果。如:
He got up early, so that he caught the bus. 他起得很早,所以赶上了公交车。

1. 起连接作用的词:
both A and B 两者都…;谓语动词永远是复数形式。如:Both Kitty and Simon are energetic. 基蒂和西蒙都很精力充沛。
not only A but (also) B 不仅A而且B(谓语动词就近原则,看B) 如:Not only the students but also their teacher has done the survey. 不仅学生,他们的老师也参与了调查。
either A or B 要么A要么B(谓语动词就近原则,看B)如:Either Simon or David is ready. 西蒙或大卫已经准备好了。

2. that 引导宾语从句:
1). 放在实义动词think, hope, believe, know, mean等后边;

4). 主句时态影响从句时态:主句过去时,从句也要用对应的过去时态。
