Skip food from any food group. C. Talk with parents about what to eat. D. Put the lunch box in a warm place. B Do you sometimes feel too afraid to try new things? To grow and improve, you need to take risks and challenge yourself. However, your brain often prefers to stay safe, whispering, “Don’t try something new.” Even when these thoughts are unreasonable, our anxiety (焦虑) can still win. We may worry more about potential failures (失败) than the good things that could happen. Avoiding all risks might seem safe, but it can lead to unhappiness. Often, we make decisions based on feelings rather than facts, mistakenly believing that feeling scared means something is too risky. But feelings aren’t always right. Learning to think clearly about risks helps us know which ones are worth taking. Whether you’re nervous about changing jobs or asking a friend to meet up, learning to take “good risks” can improve your life. Here are some helpful ways. First, balance feelings with facts. Fear doesn’t always mean real danger. For example, driving feels safe, but car accidents are common. Speaking in public might feel scary, but the actual risk is low. Before avoiding something scary, take a deep breath and ask, “What’s the real risk?” Second, take small steps to succeed. If you’re nervous about a test, make a study plan. Feeling nervous is normal (正常); facing fears builds mental strength, just like exercise builds muscles. If you try out for a team and don’t succeed, ask for feedback (反馈意见) and practice more. With practice, you’ll get better at dealing with risks, and your chances of success will rise. 24. What does the word “potential” mean in the first paragraph? A. possible B. real C. small D. dangerous 25. What does the writer suggest according to the passage? A. Our brain always asks us to try new things. B. Avoiding all risks is the best way to live a happy life. C. Driving a car is more dangerous than speaking in public. D. Feeling nervous means you should stop what you are doing at once. 26. What is the main idea of the passage? A. It explains how the human brain works. B. It lists all the different types of fears people have. C. It teaches us the importance of avoiding risks to stay safe. D. It advises us to learn to take good risks to improve our lives. C Colour-blindness, also known as a colour vision problem, is the inability to see the difference between some colours, especially red and green. Most common types of colour-blindness are genetic (基因的), meaning they’re passed down from parents. People can also have colour-blindness later in life due to age, diseases or injuries. We see colours thanks to the special cells at the back of our eyes. These cells are colour detectors. They’re called cones (视锥细胞). The cones in our eyes detect colours when lighting conditions are bright enough. There are three types of cones, with each one sensing red, green or blue light. Red, green and blue are the primary colours of light! So with just the three types of cones, you can see all the colours of the rainbow. Someone is colour-blind because some of their cones don’t work or are missing. They can still see colours, but they might have a hard time telling blue from purple, or red from green. Colour-blindness is fairly common. And men are much more likely to be colour-blind than women. There’s no cure for colour-blindness that’s passed down in families, but most people find ways to adjust (调整) to it. Children with colour-blindness may need help with some classroom activities, and adults with colour-blindness may not be able to do certain jobs, like being a pilot or graphic designer. Keep in mind that most of the time, colour-blindness doesn’t cause serious problems. What about animals? Animals often see different colours from humans. Some see more. Some see fewer. Dogs and cats have only two colour cones and don’t see many colours. Bird eyes, on the other hand, have four kinds of cones. So they see colours we can’t even imagine! 27. What are most common types of colour-blindness caused by? A. Age. B. Diseases. C. Genes. D. Injuries. 28. What can we learn from the text? A. Red, yellow and blue are the primary colours of light. B. There seems to be more colour-blind women than men. C. Children with colour-blindness may not be able to adjust to it. D. Colour-blindness doesn’t have a great influence on people’s life. 29. What’s the main idea of the last paragraph? A. Dogs and cats are colour-blind. B. Birds see more colours than humans. C. Animals can see fewer colours than humans. D. Animals have different colour cones from humans. 30. Which would be the most suitable title for the passage? A. How to Treat Colour-blindness B. An Introduction to Colour-blindness C. Why Men Are More Likely to Be Colour-blind D. The Differences Between Human and Animal Vision D This is a tale of a lonely old woman. She lived in the white North. There, the night is long in winter and the day is long in summer. The old woman lived alone in a small village. The villagers took good care of her, but she was still unhappy. She wanted a child of her own. One winter day, she walked out and saw a small white animal on the ice. It was a baby bear. The bear looked small and felt very cold. The old woman spoke softly to the bear, “Poor little thing. Come with me.” Then she carried him home. Inside her house, the old woman held the bear close until he was warm. She touched him gently and sang to him softly. He felt comfortable in her arms. From that day, when the old woman ate, she fed the little bear from her hand. When she slept, the bear slept beside her. They were a family now. The village children loved the bear too. They played together. Time passed quickly and the bear grew big and strong. One day, some villagers said to him, “Little Bear, go hunting with us. We’ll teach you how to hunt.” The bear followed them. Soon the bear became a better hunter than the villagers. When the weather was bad, everyone stayed indoors. Then the bear went out into the snow and brought home enough food for the whole village. The old woman felt proud of him. One day, some villagers said to the old woman, “The bear has grown big and strong enough. He is a good hunter now. You’d better let him go back to the wild.” In the following days, the old woman was quiet, thinking. She thought aloud, “The bear belongs to the wild. I should let him go.” Finally, she said to the bear, “It’s time for you to leave. Be safe. Be free.” She put her arms around his neck. Her tears ran into his fur. She was heartbroken. The bear walked slowly away from her and looked back again and again. Then he disappeared. When darkness fell, the old woman still stood there. Once more, she was alone. A long time passed. The winter came again. One day, the old woman stood at the same place for a long time. The wind blew snow around her face. Suddenly, the white bear appeared and ran to her. Now, once a year, in winter, the old woman and her little bear meet each other at the same place. —Adapted from Little Bear 31. In which season did the old woman first meet the baby bear? A. Spring. It connects us to the past and shows the creativity of people. In Jiangsu, China, the Dafeng district is known for its special traditional art. One of its most amazing art forms is Dafeng Porcelain Carving (大丰瓷刻). This craft turns simple, white porcelain into beautiful carved artwork. Dafeng Porcelain Carving has a long history. It started in the late Qing Dynasty, over a hundred years ago. For some time, this art was almost lost because it is very difficult to learn. Luckily, skilled artists worked hard to save it. These artists are called “inheritors”, and they pass the skills to the next generation, keeping the art alive. Making a porcelain carving requires great patience and care. First, the artist chooses a perfect piece of white porcelain. Then, they draw a pattern on it. Next, using small, special tools like diamond-tipped knives, they carefully carve the design into the hard surface. This is the most challenging step because the porcelain can easily break. Finally, they may add color to the carving to make it more lively and bright. Dafeng Porcelain Carving is very important. It is not just a decoration; it is part of China’s cultural heritage (遗产). This art form shows the hard work and creative spirit of Chinese craftspeople (手艺人). By learning about and appreciating Dafeng Porcelain Carving, we help to protect an important piece of history and keep this beautiful tradition alive for the future. 回答下面5个问题,每题答案不超过6个词。 61. Besides, he loves basketball and has learned a lot from Spud Webb, which makes him never give up. He has changed a lot. In the past, he used to stay out late to play basketball. But now, he knows how to achieve a balance between hobbies and schoolwork. He studies hard and makes great progress. I think Daniel is suitable for the School Star.
