W: So, was the film any good?
M: Well, I think you’d enjoy it. And there were some funny bits.
W: Doesn’t sound like you were very impressed.
M: No, I did like it. I couldn’t figure out what was going on half the time. That was the only thing that ruined it a bit for me. It wasn’t until the conclusion that it all sort of made sense. And the final scene was very powerful.
W: I’m surprised they chose such young actors for the main roles. The characters are meant to be middle-aged.
M: Well, I didn’t have any issues with that. The performers all did a good job. Maybe if schools showed film adaptations of classic novels, more students would enjoy literature.
W: But there’s something unique about great literature that you can’t get from films. It’s better to bring novels to life through class discussions.
M: I guess!

M: Hello, everyone. I’ve come to talk to you today about a really successful product: coffee!
As some stories say, coffee was first consumed in Ethiopia, in Africa, dating back to the fifteenth century. However, a popular tale identifies the ninth century as when coffee was originally consumed as a drink. By the seventeenth century, it was enjoyed worldwide.
The tale goes that an Ethiopian farmer, Kaldi, spotted that his goats became energetic and didn’t sleep once they’d consumed the red coffee beans. Then he took some of the beans with him. In those days, there were no professional chefs, so instead he gave them to a local leader, who initially rejected them and threw them onto a fire. The smell of the roasting beans changed his mind, leading him to create a tasty hot drink.
Coffee quickly spread to Yemen in southern Arabia. Not only was it enjoyed in people’s homes, but also in the world’s earliest coffee shops.
As the popularity grew in Europe, coffee shops appeared there too and became centers of social activity. Later, the British took coffee to North America.

When Belquer first joined a team to make a better live music experience for deaf and hard-of-hearing people, he was struck by how they had developed workarounds to enjoy concerts. “What they were doing at the time was holding balloons to feel the vibrations (震动) through their fingers,” Belquer said. He thought the team could make something to help hard-of- hearing people enjoy live music even more with the technology now available.
Belquer, who is also a musician and theater artist, is now the “Chief Vibrational Officer” of Music: Not Impossible, which uses new technology to address social issues like poverty and disability access. His team started by tying vibrating different cell phone motors to bodies, but that didn’t quite work. The vibrations were all the same. Eventually, they worked with engineers to develop a light haptic (触觉的) suit with a total of 24 vibrating plates. There are 20 of them tied to a vest that fits tightly around the body like a hiking backpack, plus one that ties to each wrist and ankle. When you wear the suit, it’s surprising how it feels.
The vibrations are mixed by a haptic DJ who controls the location, frequency and intensity of feeling across the suits, just as a music DJ mixes sounds in an artful way. “What we’re doing is selecting and mixing what we want and send it to different parts of the body,” said the DJ. The haptic suits were just one component of the event. There were American Sign Language interpreters; the music was captioned on a screen on the stage.
The suits are the star attraction. Lily Lipman, who has auditory processing disorder, lit up when asked about her experience. “It’s cool, because I’m never quite sure if I’m hearing what other people are hearing, so it’s amazing to get the music in my body.”
24. What surprised Belquer about people with hearing problems?
A. The way they enjoyed music.
B. The attitude they held to life.
C. The love they had for balloons.
D. The frequency they vibrated fingers.
25. Why did the team’s initial attempt fail?
A. The motors were the same.
B. The vibrations lacked variety.
C. The motors hardly worked.
D. The vibrations were irregular.
26. What did the DJ do?
A. He interpreted the sign language.
B. He captioned the music on stage.
C. He selected suits for the attendees.
D. He helped people feel the music.
27. What does Lily Lipman think of the suit?
A. Comforting. B. Challenging. C. Satisfying. D. Encouraging.
A 25. B 26. D 27. C
根据第一段中“When Belquer first joined a team to make a better live music experience for deaf and hard- of-hearing people, he was struck by how they had developed workarounds to enjoy concerts.(当Belquer第一次加入一个为聋哑人和听力障碍人士提供更好的现场音乐体验的团队时,他对他们如何想出享受音乐会的变通方法感到震惊。)”
根据第二段中“His team started by tying vibrating different cell phone motors to bodies, but that didn’t quite work. The vibrations were all the same. (他的团队首先将不同的手机振动电机绑在身体上,但这并不太奏效。振动都是一样的。)”可知,他的团队最初的尝试失败了,这是因为震动都是一样的,即缺乏多样性,故选B。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“The vibrations are mixed by a haptic DJ who controls the location, frequency and intensity of feeling across the suits, just as a music DJ mixes sounds in an artful way. “What we’re doing is selecting and mixing what we want and send it to different parts of the body,” said the DJ.(振动由触觉DJ混合,他控制着套装中感觉的位置、频率和强度,就像音乐DJ以巧妙的方式混合声音一样。“我们正在做的就是选择并混合我们想要的东西,并将其发送到身体的不同部位,”DJ 说)”可知,DJ选择并混合想要的东西,并将其发送到身体的不同部位,以此来帮助人们感受音乐。由此可推知,DJ帮助人们感受音乐,故选D。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中Lily Lipman所说的话“It’s cool, because I’m never quite sure if I’m hearing what other people are hearing, so it’s amazing to get the music in my body.(这很酷,因为我永远不确定我是否听到了其他人听到的声音,所以让音乐进入我的身体真是太棒了。)”

Some ants have figured out how to avoid getting lost: build taller anthills, according to a recent study.
Desert ants living in the hot, flat salt pans of Tunisia spend their days looking for food and reach as far as 1.1 kilometers from their nests. To find their way home, desert ants use a navigation system, relying on the sun’s position and counting their steps to track their location relative to their nest.
But this system becomes increasingly unreliable as the distance from the nest increases. “We realized that, whenever the ants in salt pans came closer to their nest, they suddenly pinpointed the nest hill from several meters distance,” says Markus Knaden, a researcher at Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology. “This made us think that the hill serves as a nest-defining landmark.”
So Knaden and colleagues captured ants from nests in the middle of salt pans and from along their shorelines. Only salt-pan nests had distinct hills, up to 40 centimeters tall, whereas the hills on shoreline nests were lower or barely noticeable. Next, the team removed any hills and placed the captured insects some distance away from their nests. Salt-pan ants struggled more than shore ants to find homes. Shore ants relied on the shoreline for guidance and weren’t affected by the hill removal, the researchers concluded.
The team further conducted another study to see if desert ants were deliberately building a taller hill when their surroundings lacked any visible landmarks. So, the researchers removed the hills of 16 salt-pan nests and installed (安装) two 50-centimeter-tall blocks near eight of them. The other eight nests were left without any artificial visual aid. After three days, the researchers found that seven ants from the unaided nests had rebuilt their hills. But only two ants from the nests with man-made blocks nearby had bothered to rebuild.
“It implies that ants regularly assess the complexity of their environment and change their decisions based on their conclusion,” says ecologist Judith Bronstein of the University of Arizona.
28. What aspect of ants is the recent study mainly about?
A. Challenges of survival. B. Landmarks of habitats.
C. Intelligence of navigation. D. Comparison of varieties.
29. What does the underlined word “pinpointed” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Explored. B. Recognized. C. Climbed. D. Crossed.
30. Why did researchers set shoreline ants in the experiment?
A. To observe different ants’ reactions. B. To prove impacts of various habitats.
C. To disturb desert ants’ navigation system. D. To test anthills’ functions and significance.
31. What conclusion about desert ants can be drawn from the follow-up study?
A. Evaluate and make changes. B. Visual aid is a must.
C. Cooperation brings victory. D. No man-made blocks are used.
C 29. B 30. A 31. A

故选A。
根据第五段中的“After three days, the researchers found that seven ants from the unaided nests had rebuilt their hills. But only two ants from the nests with man-made blocks nearby had bothered to rebuild.(三天后,研究人员发现,无人帮助的蚂蚁巢中有七只蚂蚁重建了它们的丘陵。 故选A。
D
“How we wait tells us something about who we are,” Christine Rosen writes. The lives of human beings are marked by short periods of waiting: for the microwave to ding, for traffic to start moving, for the post office to open, for a flatmate to finally free up the bathroom. Once upon a time these moments were used for polite chatter, quiet reflection or staring into the middle distance. Nowadays, such periods of necessary patience have been stopped. Instead, we browse (浏览) on our phone or stuff Airpods into our ears.
The ever-increasing influence of technology on all corners of our daily lives is what Rosen warns about in The Extinction of Experience. According to Rosen, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, the modern habit of filling with screentime even brief periods in our schedules is an important symptom of direct experience disappearing.
The problem, Rosen says, is not simply that these technologies exist. It’s that we assume they only bring improvement, ignoring how they also damage once commonplace skills. The average American can type 40 words a minute but write only 13 words by hand in the same time. And youngsters don’t knock on arriving at a friend’s house, they send an instant message: “I’m here. ”
The deep integration of newly invented devices into our lives has many obvious benefits, like staying in touch with a family member overseas. But Rosen also insists we are approaching a scary new reality: people are picking digital communication over offline interaction, asking AI for advice instead of turning to their nearest and dearest.
The question becomes: how do we restore a healthier balance? One with more feeling and less clicking. What’s her suggestion, then? It’s not clear. Maintain a critical eye toward innovative devices. And, more trickily, do your best to escape the cycle of “constant self-documentation”.
Rosen gives a remarkable insight into this modern problems, illustrating with style how convenience and efficiency have become the enemies of the good life. But she’s right that it’s the quiet human virtues we’ll miss most: patience, closeness, wonder, self-reflection. . . good old comfortable ignorance. If this book doesn’t scare you into switching your phone off, I don’t know what will.
32. What does Rosen warn about in her book?
A. The loss of direct experience. B. The decline of typing skills.
C. The rise of digital communication. D. The convenience of modern technology.
33. What impact does modern technology have?
A. It favors convenience over human virtues. B. It brings mixed effects to social interactions.
C. It speeds up the decline of handwritten culture. D. It weakens family bonds across long distances.
34. What can be inferred about Rosen’s solution to the problem?
A. It demands constant self-documentation.
B. It encourages complete digital disconnection.
C. It remains unclear in practical application.
D. It focuses on rebuilding patience through reflection.
35. Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Tech Reliance: A Threat to Society.
B. Digital Age: Rebuilding Lost Skills.
C. Screens vs. Socialization: A Modern Conflict.
D. The Convenience Trap: Technology’s Hidden Costs.
A 33. B 34. C 35. D

根据倒数第二段中“What’s her suggestion, then? It’s not clear. (那么,她的建议是什么呢?目前还不清楚。)”可知,Rosen的解决方案在实际应用中尚不明确。故选C。

A Rain Garden
A garden can be a place for family recreation or well-being of us, but the monsoons (季风) can turn your backyard into a grassy spot. ___36___.
Don’t drive away slimy pests. The rains also bring with them a flock of visitors, such as snails and ants. Before you lace your garden with insecticide, keep this in mind: Many of these pests are harmless and will do your green space a lot of good. For instance, snails can speed up the process of turning bío-degradable waste into fertilizer. ___37___.
Make use of rain water. Rainwater is the best kind of water for your plants. It’s as simple as placing indoor pots on the balcony. You could also put out industrial drums and pots under the rain to load up on water for your garden. ___38___. If you have the space, consider creating your own rain garden. Rain gardens collect run-off water from paved surfaces, thus saving you the additional effort of watering your plants.

,说明本段主要讲的是不要赶走黏糊糊的害虫,空前“For instance, snails can speed up the process of turning bío-degradable waste into fertilizer. (例如,蜗牛可以加速将生物降解废物转化为肥料的过程。)”说明了蜗牛是能带来好处的,因此空格处要么会说不要驱赶,如果非要赶走应该怎么做,E选项“If you must rid your garden of them, go the chemical-free way (如果你一定要把它们从花园里清除,那就用不使用化学物质的方法)”说明了如果非要把蜗牛赶走的话,就不要使用化学物质,故选E。
【38题详解】
空前“Rainwater is the best kind of water for your plants. It’s as simple as placing indoor pots on the balcony. You could also put out industrial drums and pots under the rain to load up on water for your garden. (雨水对你的植物来说是最好的水。这就像在阳台上放置室内盆栽一样简单。你也可以把工业鼓和罐子放在雨下,为你的花园装水。)”说明了如何收集雨水,空格处也应该是收集雨水的,G选项“Keep them covered with a lid when it’s not pouring, to avoid mosquitoes (在没有倾盆大雨的时候,把它们盖上盖子,以避免蚊子)”承接前文,继续讲该怎么收集雨水,因此符合语境。故选G。
本段主题句是“Weed it out.(除草。)”,说明了本段是关于除草的,空后“Besides, they rob your garden of the nutrients required to keep it flourishing. (此外,它们抢走了你的花园保持繁茂所需的营养。)”说明了草的坏处,因此空格处应该是关于草的介绍,C选项“Weeds typically crop up after a heavy rainfall (野草通常在大雨后长出来)”,说明了野草在大雨后长出来,是关于草的介绍,承上启下,符合语境。故选C。
【40题详解】
空格处是本段主题句,由空后的“This is the season to plant beauties such as jasmine, bird of paradise and Mountain Roscoe Lily. It’s also the time to cut out unnecessary branches of the plants such as ornamental asparagus... to reduce the burden on the plant. (这是种植茉莉花、天堂鸟和Mountain Roscoe Lily等美丽植物的季节。也是时候剪掉不必要的植物树枝了,比如观赏芦笋……减轻植物的负担。)”可知,本段主要讲的是种植和修剪,A选项“Plant and cut (种植和修剪)”概括了本段内容,可作为主题句。故选A。

Dear editor,
I’m Li Hua, a senior student concerned about the energy waste on campus. Many classrooms, despite being deserted, keep lights illuminated and air conditioners running continuously, consuming an amount of electricity. Moreover, taps in restrooms often remain open, with water flowing, a waste of resources.
To address these issues, posters can be put up in apparent locations, reminding students of the importance of energy conservation. Additionally, teachers could integrate relevant content into lessons, cultivating students’ awareness of environmental protection. If a volunteer monitoring team is established, it will effectively discourage irresponsible behaviors. It’s high time that we took action to build a sustainable campus!

Alex sat quietly at the back of his Chinese class, his eyes fixed on the textbook before him. As a shy and unnoticed student, he felt like a lone wolf, struggling against the complexities of high school life. Ms Lau, his Chinese teacher, was a light in his otherwise dark world. Her warm smile and gentle behavior made her stand out among the sea of teachers. She was the only one who seemed to understand his conservative nature, always encouraging him to step out of his comfort zone.
One day, after class, Ms Lau approached Alex with excitement shining in her eyes. “Alex, I have an offer for you,” she said, her voice filled with enthusiasm. “I am organizing a cultural exchange program to China, and I believe it would be a great opportunity for you to explore a new world.”
Alex’s heart skipped a beat, the prospect of traveling to a foreign country both exciting and terrifying. He hesitated, unsure if he had the courage to start such an adventure. But Ms Lau’s firm belief in him gave him the push he needed to take a leap of faith.
Under Ms Lau’s guidance, Alex began preparing for the trip. He got really interested in Chinese culture and learned about its long history and traditions. Ms Lau became his mentor(导师), teaching him not only the language but also invaluable life lessons. She taught him the importance of being confident and not giving up, reminding him that growth only happens outside one’s comfort zone.
The day of departure arrived, and Alex found himself on a plane headed for China. He couldn’t help but feel amazed as he stepped off the plane and into a world so different from his own. The busy streets, bright colors, and unfamiliar sounds flooded his senses. Yet, Ms Lau’s comforting presence by his side provided him with the strength to face the unknown.

He was no longer shy and quiet. He became much more confident and outgoing.
