Dear Jack,
How is everything going? I’m writing to tell you about my growth and gains during my first year in middle school.
The first school year is coming to an end, and I have changed a lot. In study, I learned to manage my time better and developed good learning habits. As a result, I made progress in many subjects. I also made some good friends. By helping and encouraging each other, we become closer and learned the importance of teamwork. What’s more, I took up reading as a hobby this year. It not only helps me relax but also broadens my mind.
I am happy with my growth and look forward to becoming even better in the future.
How about you? What is your life like these days? Do you have new hobbies or new friends? I’m looking forward to hearing from you.

My name is Becki. Sometimes I wish I could walk into any room, tell a funny joke, and impress people. But most days, I’m not that person. In a group, I listen more than I 1 . I do have something to say, but I just get 2 : Is this boring? Will I sound stupid?
But sometimes, I 3 a costume (服装): orange hair and a green dress. When I wear it, I stand tall. I’m not Becki. I become Merida from Brave (《勇敢传说》), my favourite movie 4 .
Merida is a princess — but not the kind who waits for a prince to save her. She is very 5 and strong. She enjoys riding her horse. She is everything I wish to be.
The first time I cosplayed (角色扮演) as Merida in an activity, I planned to keep my head down and walk through the crowd 6 . But someone pointed at me, “Look! It’s Merida!” People 7 my costume and asked for photos. A kid even told me, “You look just like her!”
So I started borrowing 8 from Merida. When people talked to me, I looked them in the eye and spoke up. Although I still get nervous sometimes, I’ve realized this: Acting as someone else doesn’t hide who I am. Instead, it helps me practise 9 who I want to be. Middle school textbooks are flying out of classrooms and landing at the Great Pyramid of Giza and Big Ben. This is all part of a “treasure hunt” that has taken social media by storm. Chinese travelers are taking their old textbooks to the landmarks on the covers. From the sands of Egypt to the streets of London, they are putting these books into hidden (隐藏的) corners for the next person to find.
A traveler named Xiao Jiayu recently followed online tips to a hidden spot near the pyramids. She pulled a history book from a small hole in the stone. Although she didn’t know the person who left it, the moment felt really meaningful. In London, another visitor found six books in just one morning near Big Ben. Inside the books, she found handwritten notes like “Keep going” and “Travel thousands of miles to find yourself.”
Many travelers take great care to protect these books. They add waterproof (防水的) covers and leave new pens to make sure the game can continue for a long time. These small acts of kindness show how much they care for the next person.
Travelers say the experience is more than just a simple game. For them, these books act as a bridge between their childhood dreams and their adult reality. Finding a book in the real world brings school lessons to life. The notes inside also bring strangers who speak the same language closer. As one popular comment said, English may be the tool they use to reach these far places, but Chinese is the language that truly connects their hearts.

Some films make you cry. Some make you think. Return to the Wolves does both. The documentary (纪录片) tells the story of a woman and a wolf. More than ten years ago, on the Zoige grassland (若尔盖草原), Chinese wildlife artist Li Weiyi rescued a baby wolf whose parents were killed by poachers (偷猎者). She named him “Green” and brought him back to Chengdu. Li and her friend Yi Feng raised him like their son.
Green soon became part of the family. He learned to catch fish and even got along with the family’s little pet dog. Li cared for him day and night and slowly built a close relationship with him. Sometimes, Green seemed less like a wild animal and more like a playful child. But as he grew up, it became clear that he was never meant to live in a city apartment. He gnawed on electrical cables (咬电线), howled late into the night, and grew more and more restless as his wild nature began to show.
Li’s friends suggested sending Green to a zoo. But after visiting one and seeing wolves walking back and forth in a tiny space, she quickly rejected the idea. A cage, however safe it might seem, is still a cage.
Finally, Li faced a hard truth: Green is a wolf and he had to go back to the wild. So she made the tough and painful decision to set him free — to return him to the grassland.
In the end, Return to the Wolves tells us that true love is not about possession (拥有). Sometimes, it means having the courage to let go.

When ZXMoto crossed the finish line first at the World Superbike Championship (世界超级摩托车锦标赛) this past March, it was historic. It was the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand (品牌) had won at this level. For founder Zhang Xue, over 20 years of hard work finally paid off.
Born in a small mountain village in Hunan in 1987, Zhang started with nothing but a deep love for motorcycles. Since he couldn’t pay for professional training, he became an apprentice (学徒) at a repair shop at sixteen. Working day and night, he saved 8,000 yuan to buy a second-hand motorcycle and practised riding almost every day.
Zhang’s turning point came at 19. He asked a TV crew (摄制组) for a chance to appear on TV, but he was too nervous to perform well. The crew said no for another try. However, Zhang didn’t give up. He rode over 100 kilometers in the rain on his old motorcycle to chase the TV crew. He performed stunts (特技表演) until his motorcycle broke down. Luckily, the crew filmed him and a professional team soon noticed him.
Because he started late, Zhang never became a top rider. However, he found another way to chase his dream. “If the motorcycles I make win a championship, it’s just like I’ve won it myself,” he said.
From a small village repair shop to the world stage, Zhang worked his way up and never gave up on his dream. He didn’t become a champion rider, but he showed that passion (热爱) and hard work pay off — no matter what road you take.

第二节 请阅读下面的短文,并从下列方框里的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。(共5小题,每小题2分)
A. Eat with the planet in mind
B. Eat fresh food for better health
C. Here are some simple ways to take action
D. Everything we buy changes the environment
E. But making electricity creates greenhouse gases
F. They make less pollution and save money as well
Climate change may seem like a huge problem, but small daily actions can make a difference. The choices we make every day can help protect the planet. 26 .
Power smarter, live cleaner
Electricity powers many parts of our lives, from lights and phones to computers and TVs. 27 . We can start by turning off lights when we leave a room, or using energy-saving bulbs at home.
28
What we eat also affects (影响) the environment. Producing food requires water, land and energy. Plant-based foods usually need fewer resources than meat products. That doesn’t mean we need to give up meat entirely. Even changing a few meals a week to plant-based food can make a real difference.
Move smart, breathe clean
Travel choices are important too. Cars and planes produce large amounts of carbon emissions (碳排放). Walking, cycling and using public transport are cleaner choices. 29 . At the same time, they are often good for our health.
Think before buying, choose wisely
30 . Fast fashion creates tons of waste and pollution every year. Buy only what we need and choose quality. Repair or reuse things instead of throwing them away, and try second-hand shopping when we can.
Every small effort counts. By making greener choices each day, we help build a cleaner future for everyone.
