When you visit a Japanese friend’s home for the first time, there are many special rules you need to follow — small mistakes might make others feel uncomfortable.
First, you must take off your shoes at the entrance. Japanese people believe shoes carry dirt from outside, so wearing them indoors is seen as rude. You should put your shoes in the shoe rack (鞋架) neatly, with the toes facing the door (it’s easier to put them on when you leave).
Second, bowing is more than just a greeting. The degree of the bow shows different levels of respect: a 15-degree bow is for saying “hello” or “thank you” to friends; a 30-degree bow is used when you meet elders or apologize; a deep 45-degree bow is only for serious situations like saying “I’m truly sorry”.
Third, gift-giving has strict taboos (禁忌). You should never bring gifts in sets of four — because the Japanese word for “four” sounds the same as the word for “death” Also, gifts should be wrapped (包装) nicely, but avoid white wrapping paper (it’s connected to funerals (葬礼). Common gifts include tea, cookies, or small plants.
At dinner, wait for the host to say “itadakimasu” (which means “I will receive this food”) before you start eating. Never stick your chopsticks upright (直立的) in the rice — this looks like the incense sticks (香烛) used at funerals, which is a serious taboo. If you need to put chopsticks down, place them on the chopstick rest, not on the table.
24. Why do Japanese people ask guests to take off shoes indoors?
A. To keep the floor clean.
B. To make guests feel relaxed.
C. To show that shoes are not expensive.
25. A 30-degree bow is proper when you ________.
A. greet a close friend B. say sorry to an old man C. thank a classmate
26. What can we infer from the passage?
A. White is a lucky color in Japan.
B. “Itadakimasu” is said after eating.
C. Giving 4 cookies as a gift is impolite.
27. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. How to bow politely in Japan.
B. Rules for visiting a Japanese home.
C. Differences between Japanese and Western dinners.

Do you know how dolphins communicate with each other? They have their own ways of “speaking”. The two main methods are clicking (发出“卡嚓”声) and whistling (吹口哨), which can be heard up to 20 miles away through the ocean.
Different kinds of whistling noises are made to talk with other dolphins. And clicking is used to find directions. It is a method of sending sound waves (音波) into the water in order to look for food. The sound waves return to the dolphin’s head after touching nearby food. Then, its brain changes the returning sound waves into the information about shapes and distances (距离) of things in the water.
Scientists are trying to work out more about the meanings behind special whistle forms, as this would help humans understand the dolphin world more easily. Dolphins’ whistles, like their names, are used to tell themselves from others and spread personal information. Scientists think their whistles might be one of the most complex forms of animal communication. Because these whistles. may change among different dolphins and situations and make it not easy to know.
Studies have shown that when a dolphin is in danger, it will produce a loud whistle so its companions (同伴) in the group can help it. When one dolphin whistles, another dolphin usually answers by making a similar sound or swims to the side of the dolphin that makes the sound. Besides, it’s also quite common for a mother and its baby to keep whistling when they become separated until they find each other again.
28. How does the writer describe the first paragraph?
A. By giving some facts.
B. By comparing ideas.
C. By telling a story.
29. What is clicking used for?
A. Talking with friends. B. Asking for help. C. Looking for directions.
30. What does the underlined word “complex” mean in paragraph 3?
A.必要的 B.复杂的 C.神奇的
31. Why does a dolphin produce its loud whistle when it is in trouble?
A. To scare away other fish.
B. To play with other dolphins.
C. To call for help from its group.

Wusong Island is a small magical place on the Songhua River in Jilin Province, China. It is famous for its beautiful rime (雾凇), one of the greatest natural wonders in China. The best time to see this amazing sight is from late December to the end of February.
So, how does rime come about? The sides of the Songhua River are lined with green trees. In winter, the river creates a mist (水汽) that rises into the cold air. When this mist meets the freezing air, it turns into a white frost (霜) on the trees, making them seem to be wearing white coats. When the wind blows, they shine like silver, which interests visitors from near and far.
But Wusong Island is more than just a natural wonder. It also tells the story of the deep connect ion between the Manchu people and the land. Winter fishing is a main activity on the island. Also, when drivers use the traditional sleigh (雪橇) to get around, they often sing Manchu old songs. When evening comes, Manchu homestays by the Songhua River light pine torches (火把) and girls dressed in traditional “Qi-style” clothes perform the Shaman dance.
The rime is a great work of nature, while the Manchu customs are the people’s deepest connection to this island. They work together to create the magic of Wusong Island, making more and more tourists come here to visit.
