Last Monday, the 2026 Fall games took place on our playground, lasting three days. Many students from each class took an active part in the games.
As soon as the opening ceremony was finished, all players immediately joined in their games. Runners struggled hard to compete for medals, with their classmates along the way giving them necessary help as well as encouragement. Even teachers also took part in the relay race, which added color to the wonderful event. The winners were awarded medals in public, receiving congratulations from their classmates and friends.
The event turned out to be a great success. Not only did it provide a chance for us students to build up our bodies, but also it enriched our campus life and made us more connected.

“Grandma,” he finally said, standing before the kitchen.
Gina turned around, looking at him expectantly. “Can you check my emails?” Josh asked. “Oh,” Gina hesitated. Josh lowered his head, guessing she’d refuse. But Gina cleaned her hands and walked towards him, smiling, “Sure. You need to get your homework, right? Let me see.” Gina picked up Josh’s phone and started searching around. She went to his email app and downloaded everything he needed to complete his homework.
Then, Gina sent Josh’s homework assignment to his computer.
Before long, they started working together to complete Josh’s homework. They ate sandwiches during the process, and their afternoon passed rapidly. When they were done, Josh looked at his grandma regretfully. He thanked her and then apologized for his previous behavior. Gina looked at him with love, patted his head and forgave him. After that day, Josh never refused when she asked for help. He learned to respect and love his grandma, instead of being selfish.

“Lives of great men all remind us that we can make our lives sublime (崇高的)” is a line from A Psalm of Life (《人生颂》) that Chen Lin read in a Learn video when he was 96 years old.
With a “life is to give, not to take” attitude, Chen Lin devoted his life to the development of foreign language education in China.
Born in 1922, Chen worked in foreign education for more than 70 years. In 1950, he started teaching at Beijing Foreign Studies University. At the university, Chen was known for his nickname of “Three UP Professor”, since he always insisted on “standing up” and “speaking up” when teaching. Also, when class was over, he would instantly “shut up”.
In the 1980s, in most English classes, teachers did most of the speaking, while students mostly only listened. But Chen encouraged students to speak and practice more. Outside of class, Chen still tried his best to popularize English among common people. In 1981, he took part in the TV program Follow Me (《跟我学》) and taught people English in a fun way, which started a craze for learning English.
In 1999, Chen led experts to develop English curriculum standards (课程标准). Before that, English teaching goals from primary to university were not connected. But the standards changed the situation, making English education work like “one package”.
To help students learn English more effectively, Chen advised providing suitable English-learning material for students at different levels. “I have been a teacher all my life, and I want to be an English teacher again in my next life.” Chen said.
“I think there is no more noble profession than to teach and make students useful to the people.”

25. Why did Chen Lin teach people English in the TV program Follow Me?
A. To become more famous in China. B. To make English popular among common people.

26. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Chen Lin decided to teach English again.
B. Chen Lin thought only teaching was a noble profession.
C. Chen Lin was proud of being an English teacher.
D. Chen Lin hoped more people could become English teachers.
27. Which of the following words can best describe Chen Lin?

Considering that you can’t even catch it, the idea of collecting fog might seem impossible. However, it’s already happening in parts of the world, and experts have now said that collecting much fog could be a helpful way of providing water to places that really need it.
Fog, which is just a cloud that has appeared near the Earth’s surface, is made up of small water drops. It is collected by putting up wire netting (金属丝网) between poles (支柱) . When the fog goes through the netting, water drops appear. The water moves down to a collecting pipe and into storage tanks (储水罐) . To learn more about fog collection, experts studied Alto Hospicio, a city in the Atacama Desert, Chile. There’s very little rain there, and not many people can easily get water. Most local people depend on trucks to bring it. However, fog often appears in the mountains around Alto Hospicio — and the experts thought they could use it.
Experts checked how much fog they collected. They then put the data (数据) together with weather forecasts (天气预报) to find out how much fog collection Alto Hospicio would need to meet its water needs. They worked out that 17,000 square metres of netting would give the 300, 000 litres of water that is brought to the city’s poorest areas each week. They also found that another 110 square metres would be enough to water the city’s green spaces.
The experts say that, for fog collection to work well, there needs to be a way of keeping and sharing large amounts of water. They hope their work will make others research fog collection as a way of giving water to areas with similar conditions to Alto Hospicio.
Dr Virginia Carter Gamberini, the main expert on the study, and her team are now making a “fog collecting map” for the whole of Chile to find the best areas for the technology.
28. How does fog collection work according to the text?
A. By using collecting pipes to bring in fog. B. By using plastic bags to collect rainwater.
C. By using storage tanks to get in rainwater. D. By using wire netting to catch water drops.
29. Which statement is true according to the text?
A. 17,000 square metres of netting gives 110 litres of water.
B. 110 square metres of netting gives 17,000 litres of water.
C. 110 square metres of netting gives 300,000 litres of water.
D. 17,000 square metres of netting gives 300,000 litres of water.
30. Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. A travel guide. B. A book review.
C. A science magazine. D. A government report.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. Problems of Fog Collection in Chile B. New Ways of Water Storage in Tanks

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, about two billion people eat bugs, or insects, as part of their daily diet. That’s nearly a quarter of the global population, and yet most countries in Europe and North America, despite the nutritional and environmental benefits, are quite unwilling to eat bugs. So why should Westernized countries agree to include bugs in their daily diet?
Eating bugs as a replacement for larger farm animals could contribute greatly to a more sustainable (可持续的) world. Bugs have a high feed-to-product rate and use much less materials than traditional farm animals per pound. According to an article written by the former manager of the Toronto Food Policy Council, Wayne Roberts, “Eatable insects don’t appear on any endangered species lists, and their sustainable use could help protect other wildlife since the approach may contribute to habitat protection.”
The nutritional benefits of eating bugs can be important in fighting childhood deaths, and malnutrition (营养不良) rates. Monica Aiyeko of the Food and Agriculture department at Bondo University College has studied and published the effects of including native crickets into school meal programs in Kenya. Her studies have found that about 30% of Kenyan households are short of food, leading to wide-spread malnutrition among children, particularly under the age of 5. Putting bugs into school feeding programs could provide children with the necessary nutrients to prevent poor growth. Generally, bugs are extremely nutritionally beneficial, rich in protein, omega-3 fats and iron.
The popular Western opinion is best stated by New York Times writer Ligaya Mishan, “Europeans, and European settlers in North America, never had a bug-eating tradition. Indeed, we largely consider insects dirty and related to disease. This is a big misunderstanding that we need to clear up. All I want is a food cultural change, is that so much to ask?”
32. What can we learn from paragraph 2?
A. Endangered bugs taste less delicious. B. Eating bugs can threaten other wildlife.
C. Bugs produce less using more materials. D. Bugs need less feed for the same production.
33. What was the main focus of Aiyeko’s study?
A. The general health benefits of bugs.
B. The climbing malnutrition rates among Kenyan kids.
C. The problem of food safety in Kenyan households.
D. The benefits of having bugs in school meals in Kenya.
34. What is Mishan’ attitude towards bug-eating?
A. Doubtful. B. Unclear. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.
35. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. Bugs: an Unwanted Future Choice B. Bugs: a Change in the Menu
C. Bugs: an Unseen Threat to the Crop D. Bugs: a Game-changer in Agriculture

One day, Gina received a smartphone. But she didn’t know how to use it. So Gina went to her daughter’s house to ask her grandson, Josh, for help.
When seeing Josh, Gina asked him for help. “Sorry Grandma. I have to leave for baseball now,” Josh answered from the sofa, his eyes locked on his own phone. Then he stood up, took his baseball bag, and left. Over the next few days, Gina went to see Josh several times. However, Josh always had something to do, giving excuses such as going to the movies.
Gina finally understood Josh actually didn’t want to help her. She stopped asking him. She turned to some friends for help. Before long, she learned how to use her phone to read stories, communicate with friends, etc.
Later, on a Monday evening, Gina visited her daughter, Oona. They happily talked when Josh was making dinner. Suddenly, they heard Josh crying out. Oona rushed towards the kitchen. Gina followed and found Josh’s hands burned by hot water by accident. “Mom, I think we need to go to the hospital,” Oona said. “Yes, I’ll drive,” Gina said.
At last, the doctor said Josh would be fine after a few days, but his hands would be bandaged (用绷带包扎). Josh was also advised not to go to school for some days so he could rest and get better soon. Oona asked Josh’s best friend to tell him his homework.
On Wednesday, Josh was alone at home. His grandma came to help make lunch for him, because he couldn’t use his hands. While Gina was cooking, Josh wanted to check his homework. His friend had sent his homework assignment to his phone through emails and text messages. But Josh couldn’t operate his phone. He realized he had to ask his grandma to help him out.
