You just put in the earbuds, and they’ll translate what they hear into your chosen language. That means if you’re trying to communicate with a police officer in Spain, a shop helper in Malaysia or a new friend in Egypt, you’ll be able to understand what they’re saying thanks to the earbuds. Some of these earbuds even say their translations are 99% accurate(精确的). It sounds almost like magic, doesn’t it? Perhaps. But translating a language and learning a language are very different things, language experts remind us. Writing in The Conversation, language professor Gabriel Guillén and Thor Sawin say that while translation earbuds may be useful for a moment, they can’t replace the benefits of language learning. “The effort of learning a language communicates respect, trust and a willingness to see the world through someone else’s eyes,” they add. “And as people continue to move around the world more and more, learning languages allows us to make deeper connections with people from different cultures.” Research has already suggested that using AI when we’re writing means we exercise our brains less — and the same idea applies to translation earbuds. They give us answers, but we don’t have to work our minds to get them. Guillén and Sawin admit that learning a language isn’t easy, but it is rewarding. In fact, they add, “Language learning builds exactly what AI-age companies want: lifelong learning, creative thinking and active listening.” So it’s easy to look at those cheap earbuds and think about all the things we could gain by using them. But we should also think: What might we lose by taking the easy route? 24. What does the first paragraph mainly tell us about the earbuds? A. Their use cases. B. Their appearance. C. Their inconvenience. D. Their operating instructions. 25. What do Guillén and Sawin agree on? A. Translation earbuds enable active listening. B. AI-powered earbuds are completely useless. C. Language beginners should take an easy route. D. Language learning may reduce culture shock. 26. What is the problem of using translation earbuds according to the research? A. It lacks security. B. It weakens our thinking. C. It exercises our ears less. D. It gets 99% of its translations wrong. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. AI Applications in Language Learning B. A Conversation Between AI and Human Beings C. Why Learning Languages Still Matters in the AI Age D. How Translation Earbuds Make Language Learning Unnecessary C I suffered from mental illness and depression when I was younger, and it totally affected my teenage years. But after a long struggle, I found a hobby that changed my life. My depression really kicked in after my parents moved to the UK when I was about 11 years old. Having to get used to life in a foreign country was very difficult. The friends I knew were gone, and the changes in my environment led to my depression. I had problems in many parts of my life, which made it feel impossible for me to carry on. At that time, I didn’t understand that depression was an illness. I remember a particular day when I couldn’t find enough strength to get myself home from playing in the park—it felt like I was carrying the world on my shoulders. Other times, I even thought about killing myself —I just felt so trapped. I never really reached out for help either, as I felt that there wasn’t anyone who could have helped with my situation. What turned my life around, however, was discovering street dancing. I was introduced to it by a friend, and I started taking classes at a studio in London. After a few weeks, I began to go out and meet a lot of other dancers to practice and train with them on a regular basis. It gave me a purpose, and eventually the happiness I gained from it helped me manage my depression. The dancing helped me get my life back, focus on my studies, and get through university. My advice to anyone who might be going through something like I was is to reach out for help. The thing about life is that it changes, and you never know what might come your way. If someone had said to me during those dark moments that I would have gone on to achieve the things I have, I wouldn’t have ever believed it. Just take each day as it comes, and remember that there’s always someone, or something, out there to help you. 28. How did the author deal with his depression at first? A. He turned to his old friends for help. B. He talked about it with his parents. C. He put up with it by himself. D. He read many articles about it. 29. How did street dancing benefit the author? A. It helped him find a good job. B. It taught him how to control his emotions perfectly. C. It let him find many true friends. D. It cheered him up and made him feel positive. 30. What does the author suggest people do when they feel down? A. Always be confident in themselves. B. Find someone or something to rescue them. C. Wait for help to come patiently. D. Accept everything that life sends their way, 31. How might the author feel about his future? A. Hopeful. B. Fearful. C. Satisfied. D. Uncertain. D The first typewriters were big heavy metal machines that worked a bit like a piano. Have you ever seen the inside of a real piano? You press a key and some levers (杠杆) make a small tool inside hit just the right piano string (弦) to make a note. Early typewriters were similar. They had all these levers with a metal letter at the end of it. You had to press a letter key quite hard to make the metal lever fly across and hit the paper. The first machine did have the letter keys in the order of the letters we learn. But the trouble was that if you hit two keys quickly the levers would jam (卡住). Jams were most likely when the two keys were close together on the keyboard. Christopher Sholes, an American inventor, succeeded in dealing with the problem. He tried many ways to avoid the need to type two keys that were close together. The best way he could find was similar to the QWERTY keyboard we all use today. Sholes also made the name of his machine easy to type. He placed on the same line all the letters of the words “type” and “writer”. He sold his invention to the Remington Company which built and sold the first successful typewriters. Later, many other kinds of the letter keys have been tried. Some are said to be easier to learn or use. But none has proved good enough to beat QWERTY. QWERTY was developed for the English language. The keyboard slightly differs around the world. For example, AZERTY is commonly used for French, QWERTZ for German, and QZERTY for Italian. Perhaps you can find someone from India, Japan, or Korea. Ask them to show you the keyboard they use in their language. 32. What’s the author’s purpose in writing Paragraph 1? A. To show how the piano influenced the typewriter. B. To explain the typewriter is different to the piano. C. To tell why the typewriter was invented. D. To explain how the typewriter worked. 33. Why did Christopher Sholes change the order of the letters on the keyboard? A. To make people type quickly. B. To help people remember it easily. C. To solve the letters’ jamming problem. D. To put frequently used letters together. 34. What do we know about the QWERTY keyboard according to Paragraph 4? A. It’s better than other keyboards. B. It still needs to be improved. C. It met with doubt from the very beginning. D. It made the Remington Company successful. 35. What’s the man idea of the last paragraph? A. The keyboard is changing over time. B. The word “QWERTY” is out of date. C. The QWERTY keyboard is very popular. D. The keyboard changes with some languages. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) Fear of public speaking is a common form of worry. While she was in the Netherlands, she decided she didn’t want to receive any more money from the Cadbury business. She told her brother, who was running the company, that he should give her share of the money to the factory workers instead. M: And then what happened? W: Well, she even invited poor people to live in her house. When it became too crowded, she and her family had to live in a tent. Scholarship assistance is available. Register here and apply the code EARLYBIRD21 by April 5th to get a 20% discount.(费用:整整三周375美元。 根据第三段最后一句“It’ll be high energy and lots of fun from 9: 00AM-1: 00PM every day for the three-week camp experience.(在为期三周的夏令营体验中,每天从上午9点到下午1点会充满活力和乐趣。)”和第五段第二句“Each student chooses one camp program to take part in throughout the entire duration of the 3-week Summer Camp experience from 9: 00AM-1: 00PM every day.(在为期三周的夏令营体验中,每个学生从每天上午9点到下午1点,选择一个营地项目参加。)” D。 B If you look online, you can find earbuds(耳机) for less than $ 10 that offer real-time AI-powered translation of dozens of languages. How Translation Earbuds Make Language Learning Unnecessary 【答案】24. A 25. D 26. B 27. 根据第一段“If you look online, you can find earbuds (耳机) for less than $ 10 that offer real-time AI-powered translation of dozens of languages. You just put in the earbuds, and they’ll translate what they hear into your chosen language. That means if you’re trying to communicate with a police officer in Spain, a shop helper in Malaysia or a new friend in Egypt, you’ll be able to understand what they’re saying thanks to the earbuds.(如果你在网上看,你会发现不到10美元就能买到提供几十种语言实时人工智能翻译的耳机。 根据第三段中的““The effort of learning a language communicates respect, trust and a willingness to see the world through someone else’s eyes,” they add. “And as people continue to move around the world more and more, learning languages allows us to make deeper connections with people from different cultures.”(他们补充道:“学习一门语言的这份心意,彰显着尊重与信任,也体现出愿意换位思考、以他人视角看待世界的态度。如今跨国往来愈发频繁,掌握不同语言能让我们与异域文化的人们建立更深层次的联系。”)”可知,Guillén和Sawin认为语言学习能帮助人们建立深层连接,理解不同文化。由此推断,这自然会减少因文化差异带来的冲击。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Research has already suggested that using AI when we’re writing means we exercise our brains less — and the same idea applies to translation earbuds. They give us answers, but we don’t have to work our minds to get them.(研究已经表明,当我们写作时使用人工智能意味着我们的大脑锻炼得更少——同样的概念也适用于翻译耳机。 根据最后一段“Guillén and Sawin admit that learning a language isn’t easy, but it is rewarding. In fact, they add, “Language learning builds exactly what AI-age companies want: lifelong learning, creative thinking and active listening.”(吉列恩和索温坦言,学习一门语言并非易事,但收获颇丰。 C选项“Why Learning Languages Still Matters in the AI Age(为什么在人工智能时代学习语言仍然重要)”最能概括全文主旨。 C I suffered from mental illness and depression when I was younger, and it totally affected my teenage years. A. Hopeful. B. Fearful. C. Satisfied. D. Uncertain. C 29. D 30. B 31. I never really reached out for help either, as I felt that there wasn’t anyone who could have helped with my situation. It gave me a purpose, and eventually the happiness I gained from it helped me manage my depression. The dancing helped me get my life back, focus on my studies, and get through university. My advice to anyone who might be going through something like I was is to reach out for help. Just take each day as it comes, and remember that there’s always someone, or something, out there to help you. 32. D 33. C 34. A 35. It also may help to practice with a few people who you don’t know well. You can make a video of your presentation so you can watch it and see ways to improve. Focus on your material, not the audience. People mainly pay their attention to new information — not how it’s presented. In fact, when presenters are anxious, they tend to overjudge just how much others can tell they’re stressed. ____39____ If audience members do notice you’re worried, they may encourage you and want your speech to be a success. Don’t fear a moment of silence. If you lose track of what you’re saying or your mind goes empty, it may seem like you’ve been silent for ages. ____40____ Even if it’s longer, it’s likely your audience won’t mind a break to think about what you’ve been saying. Just take a few slow, deep breaths. A. Practice your presentation several times. B. In fact, it’s probably only a few seconds. C. See if any of your specific worries come true. D. I would choose “Music and me”. Music is a universal language that connects people. Many students enjoy listening to or playing music, and sharing personal stories about music can make the newspaper more lively and personal. “British history and traditions” is also interesting, but it might feel a bit distant for some students. Music, however, is something we experience every day. It can inspire creativity and bring joy. I believe this topic will attract more readers and encourage them to share their own stories. Looking forward to your decision! Best wishes, Li Hua 范文二 Dear Eric, I really like the idea of adding a new column to our English newspaper. I choose “British History and Traditions” for some reasons. First, learning about British history helps us understand the world better. By studying important events and famous people, we can see how Britain influenced global culture and science. Second, traditions like afternoon tea or royal ceremonies are both educational and interesting. Understanding these customs allows us to connect with British friends and appreciate cultural differences. We could even compare them with Chinese traditions in future articles! While music is fun, history offers lasting knowledge that improves our reading skills and broadens our horizons. This column will inspire students to explore beyond textbooks. She was friends with everyone in her class. There was no one in class who did not like her. She was very kind and would always be busy with her friends. She felt very happy that she had so many friends at school and in her neighborhood. On Friendship Day, her class organized an event, in which everyone had to make three presents and give them to their best friends. Lily was really looking forward to the coming Friendship Day as she was expecting gifts from her friends. However, when all the presents were shared among her classmates, she was the only one who hadn’t received any presents. She felt terrible and cried a lot. She wondered how that was possible. She had made so much effort to be friends with everyone but in the end no one thought of her as one of their best friends. Everyone came and tried to comfort her for a while but each one only stayed for a short time before leaving. This was exactly what Lily had done so many times to others. On that day when she got home, her mother saw her sad face. And then her mother asked her the reason for her sadness. “Where can I find true friends?” Lily asked. Her mother was surprised at her question. Then she asked Lily what had happened in school. Her mother comfort her and said, “You cannot buy friends with a smile or a few good words. If you really want true friends, you will have to give them real time and love. For a true friend you must always be available,in good times and bad.” Lily replied, “But I want to be friends with everyone!” Paragraph 1: Her mother shook her head. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Lily decided to change her ways and thought how she could make true friends. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Her mother shook her head. She said, "My dear, you are a lovely girl but you can't be a close friend to everybody. There just isn't enough time available for everyone, so it's only possible to have a few true friends. The others will be playmates but they won't be close friends.” Hearing this Lily realized that although she was a good classmate, she had not been a true friend to anyone. She had tried not to argue with anyone and she had tried to pay attention to everyone but now she had found out that was not enough to create true friendships. Lily decided to change her ways and thought how she could make true friends. Just thinking about that, she realized her mother was always willing to help her. She put up with all of Lily's dislikes and problems, she always forgave her and she loved her a great deal. Lily smiled from ear to ear. She realized that she already had the best friend anyone could ever want. 词汇激活 行为类 ①关注:pay attention to/keep a watchful eye on ②争论:argue with sb/ take issue with sb 情绪类 高兴:smile from ear to ear/with huge joy 【点睛】[高分句型1] Hearing this Lily realized that although she was a good classmate, she had not been a true friend to anyone.(现在分词作状语,although 引导让步状语从句) [高分句型2] She realized that she already had the best friend anyone could ever want.(that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。听下面对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题,每段对话读两遍。How long have you been in this area?
