Jenna had a secret. Her mum is the head teacher of her school. She didn’t want anyone to know this as her classmates would think that she got special treatment. Not even her friends knew about it. When her friends asked to go to her house, she just refused and said that her parents didn’t allow her to invite guests.
“Bring Your Mum to School” day was coming. Jenna usually told her friends in the past that her mum was out of town. “What does your mum do?” her friends asked. “She is a researcher, so she travels a lot.” Funnily enough, Jenna’s mum was always at “Bring Your Mum to School” day at her high school. A teacher once asked her, “Do you have a daughter?” Jenna’s mum said, “Yes, she is in college now.”
Jenna was very close to getting an A in her calculus (微积分) class. There was only one exam left. Jenna would have to get 100% on the exam to push her grade to an A. The teacher offered the students extra credits (附加分) if they brought their mum to the class on the “Bring Your Mum to School” day. Jenna told her mum that she wanted to tell everyone about their relationship. Jenna’s mum agreed. On “Bring Your Mum to School” day, Jenna brought her mum to her calculus class. She felt her heart was beating fast. She was afraid her classmates would not talk to her because she had told a lie. “Hi, our head teacher. What brings you here?” asked the calculus teacher. “I’m Jenna’s mum,” she answered. All the students in the classroom were surprised and they told Jenna she had a cool mother.

根据第一段“Her mum is the head teacher of her school. She didn’t want anyone to know this as her classmates would think that she got special treatment.(她妈妈是她学校的校长。她不想让任何人知道这件事,因为她的同学会认为她得到了特殊待遇)”可知,詹娜的妈妈是她所在学校的校长,她不想让别人知道这个事实,觉得她受到了特殊待遇,因此拒绝带别人去她家里。故选A。
根据第二段“A teacher once asked her, “Do you have a daughter?” Jenna’s mum said, “Yes, she is in college now.”(一位老师曾经问她:“你有女儿吗?”詹娜的妈妈说:“是的,她现在在上大学。”)”可知,关于她的女儿,詹娜的妈妈撒了个谎。故选C。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“She felt her heart was beating fast. She was afraid her classmates would not talk to her because she had told a lie.(她感到心跳得很快。

C
For thousands of years, humans believe that wolves usually howl (嗥叫) during a full moon. However, there is no relationship between the howl and a full moon. Still, you may hear a wolf howl at night. Wolves sleep during the day. When the sun goes down, they move about and look for food. Humans often hear wolves howling at night. As a result, we’ve long connected this howling with the moon.
If it has nothing to do with the moon, then why do wolves howl? There are a few different reasons. Often, wolves howl to tell their pack (群) where to find them. Like dogs, wolves are social animals. If they become separated, howling can help them find each other.
Besides, if a wolf finds large prey (猎物) it may howl to call for help from its pack. Other wolves will hear the call and come to share the meal.
Finally, wolves sometimes howl as a warning to other animals. While wolves are social, they aren’t too genial to those outside their pack. If a wolf traveling alone hears the howls of a pack, it knows it has entered another pack’s area. It will run away quickly.
Have you ever seen pictures of wolves howling? If so, you may know they often point their snouts (鼻子) to the sky while doing so. This is another reason why many people think wolves howl at the moon. However, scientists say the real purpose is to make sure their sound can be heard by other wolves up to seven miles away.
28. What does paragraph 1 say about wolves’ howling during a full moon?
A. It is not common in modern days.
B. It shows wolves have found food.
C. It is commonly believed but has no connection.
D. It makes people frightened of wolves’ howling.
29. What does the underlined word “genial” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Friendly. B. Curious. C. Annoyed. D. Confident.
30. Why do wolves point their snouts to the sky while they howl according to scientists?
A. To mislead people. B. To look for a partner.
C. To show they are powerful. D. To carry their sound farther.
31. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To tell us why wolves howl. B. To explain when wolves howl.
C. To encourage us to protect wolves. D. To show wolves are active at night.
C 29. A 30. D 31. A
根据第一段中的“For thousands of years, humans believe that wolves usually howl (嗥叫) during a full moon. However, there is no relationship between the howl and a full moon.(几千年来,人们认为狼通常会在满月时嚎叫。然而狼的嚎叫和满月之间没有任何关联。)”可知,人们普遍认为狼满月会嚎叫,但二者并无联系。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段中的“While wolves are social, they aren’t too genial to those outside their pack. If a wolf traveling alone hears the howls of a pack, it knows it has entered another pack’s area. It will run away quickly.(尽管狼是群居动物,但它们对族群以外的同类并不genial。独自游荡的狼听到别的狼群嚎叫,就知道闯入了对方领地,会迅速逃走。)”可知,狼群对外来同类态度不友好,因此,genial意为“友好的”,与friendly意义相近。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中的“However, scientists say the real purpose is to make sure their sound can be heard by other wolves up to seven miles away.(然而科学家表示,狼仰头嚎叫的真正目的是确保七英里外的其他狼都能听见它们的叫声。)”
通读全文,尤其是第二段中的“If it has nothing to do with the moon, then why do wolves howl? There are a few different reasons.(如果狼嚎叫和月亮无关,那它们为什么嚎叫?这里有几个不同的原因。)”可知,文章破除民间误区,分点讲解狼嚎叫的各类缘由,由此能推断出本文写作目的是向读者说明狼嚎叫的原因。
D
At Granger High School, freshmen (新生) came from different junior high schools. Some freshmen were worried and nervous when going into senior high school. “When we were registering (注册) for our classes, I was a little nervous. I didn’t know anyone at Granger. I’m kind of social. If a teacher puts me with someone, I can get along well with them. However, it’s different starting in a new school with lots of strangers,” Mark Calderon said.
While many had similar feelings to Calderon, others had a different opinion. “ I didn’t really care about going to senior high school. I already had lots of friends at Granger. Besides, my friends from other junior high schools were going to go to Granger, so going there meant we all would get to be together,” Jordan Thomas said.
The transition (过渡) to senior high school is just the first part. The other part is being able to get through high school with a comfortable experience, meaning trying to get the grades they want. “I’m not doing so well in my schoolwork.” Calderon said. Many other freshmen can relate. The first year of senior high school can be difficult for students to get used to because classes are more difficult than those in junior high school. The pace (节奏) feels a little faster for those who have a hard time dealing with their study.
Not only that, surveys also showed that about 40 percent of freshmen are always not going to school. Unluckily, lots of freshmen have failing grades. “The time that’s provided for them on Mondays and Tuesdays is to help them catch up in classes. Instead they’re busy talking to their friends and playing around,” Mr Timothy, a senior high school teacher, said.
32. What worried Mark Calderon ?
A. His grades.
B. His personality.
C. Fast - paced high school life.
D. Relationship with new classmates.
33. What did Jordan Thomas say about his new life in senior high school ?
A. He was afraid of it.
B. He had no idea of it.
C. He avoided sharing it.
D. He looked forward to it.
34. What does the author mean by writing “ Many other freshmen can relate.” in paragraph 3?
A. Many freshmen have similar experiences.
B. Many freshmen will get used to new life.
C. Many freshmen want to get good grades.
D. Many freshmen will get on well with others.
35. What does the last paragraph focus on ?
A. Ways that help keep students’ grades up.
B. Reasons why students fall behind in study.
C. Students’ difficulties in improving their grades.
D. Teachers’ worry about the future of their students.
D 33. D 34. A 35. B
根据第一段““When we were registering (注册) for our classes, I was a little nervous. I didn’t know anyone at Granger. I’m kind of social. If a teacher puts me with someone, I can get along well with them. However, it’s different starting in a new school with lots of strangers,” Mark Calderon said.(“当我们注册课程时,我有点紧张。我在格兰杰谁也不认识。我有点社交。如果老师把我和别人放在一起,我就能和他们相处得很好。然而,在一所新学校和许多陌生人开始是不一样的,”马克·卡尔德龙说)”可知,马克·卡尔德隆担心与新同学的关系。故选D项。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“While many had similar feelings to Calderon, others had a different opinion. “I didn’t really care about going to senior high school. I already had lots of friends at Granger. Besides, my friends from other junior high schools were going to go to Granger, so going there meant we all would get to be together,” Jordan Thomas said.(虽然许多人与卡尔德隆有相似的感受,但也有人有不同的看法:“我真的不关心上高中。我在格兰杰已经有很多朋友了。此外,我其他初中的朋友也要去格兰杰,所以去那里意味着我们都能在一起,”乔丹·托马斯说)”乔丹·托马斯说他在格兰杰高中有他初中的朋友,所以他是期待上高中。故选D项。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段““I’m not doing so well in my schoolwork.” Calderon said.(“我的功课不太好。”卡尔德隆说)”以及“The first year of senior high school can be difficult for students to get used to because classes are more difficult than those in junior high school. The pace (节奏) feels a little faster for those who have a hard time dealing with their study.(中的第一年对学生来说可能很难适应,因为课程比初中更难。对于那些在学习上有困难的人来说,节奏会快一些)”可知,此处是在讲述,很多高一新生觉得自己的功课不好,所以作者说“Many other freshmen can relate.”的意思是许多大一新生都有类似的经历。故选A项。
根据最后一段“Not only that, surveys also showed that about 40 percent of freshmen are always not going to school. Unluckily, lots of freshmen have failing grades. “The time that’s provided for them on Mondays and Tuesdays is to help them catch up in classes. Instead they’re busy talking to their friends and playing around,” Mr Timothy, a senior high school teacher, said.(不仅如此,调查还显示,大约40%的高一新生总是不去上学。不幸的是,很多高一新生成绩不及格。“周一和周二为他们提供的时间是为了帮助他们赶上课程。相反,他们忙着和朋友聊天、玩耍,”身为高中教师的蒂莫西表示)”可知,本段主要讲述了学生学习落后的原因。故选B项。

【40题详解】
根据前文“This holiday can be celebrated in several ways. First, a person can find out how much he needs to spend in a certain period and make a plan to save money every week.(人们有多种方式庆祝这个节日。首先,人们可以算出一段时期的总开销,制定每周存钱计划。)”以及“Besides, people can spread the news about saving online.(此外,人们可以在网上宣传储蓄相关理念。)” F“This is also a good day for people to teach their kids about saving.(这也是家长教导孩子储蓄知识的好日子。)”

My world was in a constant state of change and I was having trouble keeping up. Life with Mom, Dad, and my sister, Linda, had always been comfortable and fairly predictable. My grades were good, and Linda and I got on well. We played together and fought together, the way sisters do. As the older one, I was used to being told to set an example, which wasn’t too difficult, since Linda was only two years younger, and she usually wanted to do anything I did, anyway. Life was pretty good.
Then the changes started coming.
First came a family meeting with surprising news that would change my world. We were moving. Our new home would be across the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, in another borough of New York City. We were leaving the only home I had ever known. Even worse, it would occur right before the beginning of sixth grade. Not only would I not be able to graduate from elementary school with my friends, but I would have to start middle school with a class full of kids who had known each other, and bonded, since kindergarten. Where would that leave me?
I spent the summer adjusting to a new neighborhood, literally being the new kid on the block. Making friends didn’t come easily to me, and it didn’t help being the eldest child of immigrant parents. I was different, and being different is the last thing any middle school student wants. The fear of starting a new school hung over me like a black cloud, damaging each summer day.
The first day of school arrived too quickly. I entered my new classroom trying very hard not to appear as scared as I felt, but it wasn’t easy. Twenty-eight faces turned to look up at me as I followed the Assistant Principal into the room. They all looked so cool, and some of the girls even wore make-up. How would I ever fit in? I was out of touch in every way possible. I wasn’t allowed to wear make-up or nail polish. Most of my clothes were handmade, sewn by my mother and grandmother.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Mr. Bernstein welcomed me to the classroom and introduced me to my new desk mate—Janet.

We walked to the cafeteria, sat together, and opened our lunch bags.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Mr. Bernstein welcomed me to the classroom and introduced me to my new desk mate— Janet. I took my seat and Janet greeted me with a warm smile. There wasn’t time for conversation before Mr. Bernstein began to rapidly detail the requirements for our class. I wrote as fast as possible, stealing occasional peeks at Janet. What was she like? Would she accept me? I would find out the answers soon enough, during lunch period.
We walked to the cafeteria, sat together, and opened our lunch bags. Between bites of our sandwiches, we began to ask each other questions. Her responses were not at all what I expected. Home? It turned out that we lived about a fifteen-minute walk apart. Upbringing? Her parents were as strict as mine: no make-up. The smiles on both our faces broadened with each new exchange. It turned out that Janet was a very nice girl and we felt like old friends at the first meeting because we had so much in common.

“Bring Your Mum to School” day was coming.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Mr. Bernstein welcomed me to the classroom and introduced me to my new desk mate—Janet.
