Ⅳ. 阅读理解
Some people think that exploring space is a waste of money. They say we should use the money to solve problems on Earth, like poverty and pollution. However, I strongly believe that space exploration is necessary and beneficial for humans.
First, space research has given us many useful inventions. For example, the technology used in smoke detectors, memory foam (记忆海绵), and even wireless headphones was first developed for space programs. These inventions have greatly improved our daily lives.
Second, by studying other planets, we learn more about our own. Scientists study the atmosphere of Venus to understand the greenhouse effect better. This knowledge helps us protect Earth from environmental disasters.
Finally, space exploration inspires young people to study science and technology. It encourages students to become engineers, mathematicians, and astronauts. This passion for discovery drives human progress.
In conclusion, space exploration is not a waste. It provides us with new technology, protects our planet, and inspires future generations. It is an investment in our future.
( ) 16. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as an invention from space research?
A. Wireless headphones. B. Smoke detectors.
C. Television. D. Memory foam.
( ) 17. Why do scientists study the atmosphere of Venus?
A. To find new places to live.
B. To learn more about Earth’s climate.
C. To compete with other countries.
D. To discover new energy sources.
( ) 18. [写作手法] How does the writer support the main idea of the text?
A. By comparing Earth with Venus.
B. By telling a story about a space trip.
C. By giving reasons and examples.
D. By listing different space missions.
( ) 19. [写作意图] What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this text?
A. To describe a journey to Venus.
B. To ask people to protect the environment.
C. To argue that space exploration is valuable.
D. To discourage people from exploring space.
Ⅴ. 任务型阅读
阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)。
Over the past decade, China’s space station, Tiangong, has achieved remarkable progress. It serves as a long-term space laboratory orbiting Earth, where astronauts can live and conduct scientific experiments.
Tiangong consists of three main modules (舱). The Tianhe core module is the control center and living area. The Wentian lab module focuses on life science and biotechnology. The Mengtian lab module is used for microgravity physics and space technology tests. Astronauts aboard perform various experiments, such as studying cell growth to develop new medicines and testing materials for future spacecraft.
Constructing Tiangong was a challenging task. Scientists and engineers had to overcome numerous difficulties, including assembling (组装) the modules in orbit and dealing with extreme temperature changes in space.
Today, Tiangong attracts global attention. It hosts scientific projects from 17 countries and regions, demonstrating China’s space capabilities. It also provides valuable data for future manned missions to the Moon and Mars.
20. How many main modules does Tiangong have, and what are their functions? (不超过15个词)
21. What was one of the difficulties in building Tiangong? (不超过10个词)
22. How can Tiangong help future space travel to the Moon and Mars? (不超过10个词)
