Put on gloves first. Put the fabric into the dye and soak (浸泡) it for 30 minutes. The longer you soak, the deeper the color will be.

Have you watched the TV drama Zhu Jue (The Leading Role)? The popular drama about the story of Yi Qin’e has drawn lots of young people’s attention to Qinqiang and even Chinese opera. Many TV stations also offer special features to introduce Chinese opera.
Qinqiang is just one type of Chinese opera. Others include Peking Opera, Kunqu, and Yuju. Although they have differences, most Chinese operas have key similarities. They use symbolic acting: a whip (鞭子) stands for a horse, and a table can be a mountain. The stage is often simple, letting the audience use their imagination. Characters are divided into fixed role types—sheng (male), dan (female), jing (painted face), and chou (clown) Performers must have four skills: singing, speaking, acting, and acrobatics (杂技). The music is played by traditional instruments, like the erhu and banhu.
Western theatre (戏剧), however, is quite different. In most shows, actors speak and move naturally, with clothes and makeup just like in daily life. The stage looks very real, with careful scenery and props (道具) that make the audience feel like they are in a real place. There are no fixed role types, and the story decides what each character is like. Sometimes, the story is sung all the way, often with strong voices and a large group of musicians—this is Western opera (歌剧).
Though Chinese opera and Western theatre differ in form, they both share the same goal—to touch the audience with powerful stories. We can be moved by Yi Qin’e’s efforts in learning Qinqiang in The Leading Role, or touched by the sad love story in Romeo and Juliet. Everyone can enjoy themselves in laughter and tears in those stories.
24. Why does the writer mention the TV drama The Leading Role?
A. To tell the life story of the actress Yi Qin’e in detail.
B. To catch readers’ interest and introduce Chinese opera.
C. To explain why people prefer TV dramas to live shows.
D. To compare Qinqiang with other types of Chinese opera.
25. Which sentence uses “features” with the same meaning as the underlined word?
features /’fi:tʃə(r)s/ n.
A. Keeping calm is one of the features of top performers.
B. Her eyes are attractive features—dark and full of emotions.
C. I watched the World Cup features online last Sunday evening.
D. The car’s features include a self-parking system and voice control.
26. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Western theatre stages usually ask the audience to imagine freely.
B. Both Chinese opera and Western theatre move the audience deeply.
C. In Western theatre, music is played by some traditional instruments.
D. In Chinese opera, a real horse is often brought onto the simple stage.
27. What is the best title of the passage?
A. The Power of Stories B. TV Brings Tradition Back

Scene One
Eight-year-old Zack Nelson loved space stories a lot. But in February 2120, his family moved to the planet Nebulon for his dad’s new job. He really missed his bedroom on Earth, his best friend Bert, his dog Luna, and the tasty pizza. Even though his new bedroom was his favorite color green, with a big wall screen showing stars, Zack still felt everything was strange. He even told his parents that he wanted to go back to Earth and would never come back.
Scene Two
The next morning, Ira, the computer, woke Zack up, “Good morning, Master Zack. It is time to get ready for school.” Ira played Zack’s favorite song Rockin’ Round the Stars for him. Zack got dressed and had breakfast. Mom pressed the button (按钮) in the green car and said, “Sprockets Academy.” The car shot into the air.
In class, Zack looked at the screen and wondered how it worked. His classmate Drake leaned over (俯身) and said in a low voice, “Just tap (轻敲) the center of the screen.” The lesson appeared. Zack listened carefully and enjoyed the history of Nebulon. At lunch, Drake asked, “Shall we go to the school dining hall together after school?” Zack nodded.
Scene Three
After school, they took the school space bus to the school dining hall. Many robots walked around and carried all kinds of food. Drake told Zack that people did not need to wait in long lines here. A robot came up to them. Zack ordered super mac and cheese (超级芝士通心粉), and Drake ate his favorite jamming jelly sandwich (超赞果酱三明治). Then the robot brought their food over. When they got back, Dad brought a big surprise—Zack’s dog Luna arrived from Earth. Zack hugged her excitedly. He still missed Earth, but he thought he was going to like living on Nebulon.
Scene Four
The next day at school, Ms. Rudolph said, “The Sprockets Academy Explorers Club is going on a trip to Juno. It’s a new planet. Students will help the Nebulon Navigators (航行者) explore it.” Zack’s eyes opened wide. He had read about Juno in the Nebulon News. He turned to Drake and asked, “Are you going?” Drake said, “I’m already a member. You should join.”
That night, Zack sat at his desk. He tried to do his homework, but he couldn’t think. He looked out the window at the stars...

①Scientists around the world are watching the Pacific Ocean (太平洋) very carefully. They are looking for early signs of a strong “super El Niño (厄尔尼诺)” that could happen in 2026. Recently, big storms in this area made warm ocean water move faster. So experts say this unusual weather event may come earlier and be more serious than they expected.
②The name “El Niño” means “the little boy” in Spanish (西班牙语), referring to the Christ Child (圣婴). Long ago, fishermen found that this warm ocean current (洋流) usually appeared around Christmas. El Niño can greatly change weather conditions all over the world.
③So, what causes El Niño? Normally, strong trade winds blow from east to west across the Pacific. They push warm surface water toward Asia and Australia, while cold water rises near South America. However, during El Niño, these winds weaken. The warm water flows back east, and cold water does not rise as usual. So the eastern Pacific becomes much warmer. This is the main pattern scientists have found so far, but they haven't reached an agreement on its exact causes, yet. Studies show that this warming process has become faster in recent years.
④Scientists warn that such a powerful event can have serious effects on the world. It brings dangerous heat, droughts in Australia and Southeast Asia, and terrible floods in South America.
⑤China also faces challenges. The main pattern is “drought in the north, floods in the south”. Northern areas will face hot, dry periods and wildfire risks. Southern areas will have longer rainy seasons, causing floods and landslides. Coastal areas will get fewer but much stronger typhoons.
⑥Of course, we cannot stop El Niño—but that doesn’t mean we are helpless. People in the north should store water, avoid outdoor fires, and get ready for extreme heat. Southern people should clear drains (排水), keep emergency supplies, and stay away from flooded areas. Everyone should follow the weather report and look after elderly or sick neighbours.
32. What is the name of “El Niño” related to (与……
A. The time when it appears. B. A little boy from South America.
C. The early signs of a strong wind. D. The changeable weather on the planet.
33. Which of the following pictures shows the causes of El Niño in Paragraph 3?
A. B.
C. D.
34. What can we infer from the passage?
A. The whole world will grow warmer and warmer.
B. People can reduce harm from El Niño through early actions.
C. Coastal areas will suffer less harm because of fewer typhoons.
D. El Niño causes greater harm to Australia than to Southeast Asia.
35. If a farmer in northern China reads this passage, which advice would be most useful to him?
A. Clear drains and keep emergency supplies for floods.
B. Stay away from the coast and get ready for typhoons.
C. Store enough water and prepare the land for rainstorms.
D. Save water for dry days and pay attention to outdoor fires.

When we visit a museum or go traveling, taking photos might feel like a good way to keep memories. But a study shows a different result.
Psychologist Linda Henkel did some tests, and she asked students to visit an art museum. Some took photos of paintings, while others just watched them quietly. Later, both groups took a memory test. The result showed that students who took photos remembered fewer details than those who watched paintings carefully.
This is called the “photo-taking impairment effect” (拍照损伤效应). When we take a photo, our brain becomes lazy and thinks, “I don’t need to remember everything.” It’s like how we don’t memorize phone numbers anymore because they’re all in our contacts (通讯录). Besides, taking photos may easily take our attention away from the moment. Instead of giving our full attention to what’s happening, we’re busy recording it. The less attention we pay, the less we will remember.
Even so, we don’t have to give up taking photos completely. After all, every situation is different. For example, when we graduate (毕业) from school, win big awards, or have an important family get-together, a photo can keep the joy alive. But when we are enjoying an ordinary dish or talking with a close friend, putting the phone down might bring a better experience. Also, even in the same situation, we can choose either (两者之一的) way, because everyone values different things.
However, knowing we can choose for ourselves doesn’t always make it easy to put the phone down, especially when taking photos has become a habit. We’d better choose one or two special moments to record. Try passing our phones to our friends or family members. Asking them to do the recording job can help us completely jump into the activity and enjoy ourselves.
Next time, when we are laughing with old friends, when we are standing before a breathtaking view, when we are walking through an art museum, will we pick up our phones or leave them in our pockets?
Photography may not be the best way to keep clear memories. A study showed that students remembered more details of the paintings by ________61________ than by taking photos. This is the “photo-taking impairment effect”. Brains get lazy when phones store everything. Also, taking photos stops them from ________62________ what’s happening. However, we don’t have to stop photographing. Instead, we should ________63________. Use a phone or leave it? ________64________.

根据“all my wonderful working days in my memory”可知,作者将美好的工作记忆保存了下来。
根据“my first summer”以及“I was wet all over and my eyes were filled with sweat.”

根据前文“Her family were so thankful for the joy I brought.” on purpose“故意”、 in need“在危难中”、out of breath“上气不接下气”,语义不符。

Do you want to create your own tie-dye (扎染) artwork? Let’s follow these steps together!
Tie
Fold the white cotton fabric (布料) in any way you like. Then wrap (包裹) it tightly with a string (绳子).
Dye
Put on gloves first. Put the fabric into the dye and soak (浸泡) it for 30 minutes. The longer you soak, the deeper the color will be.
Wash
Wash it under running water until the water runs clear, which usually takes 5 to 10 minutes. Do not use hot water, or the color will come off easily. Then cut off the string carefully.
Dry
Hang it up outside. Let it air dry completely. It normally takes 2 to 4 hours. Don’t fold it or use hot air. Then you will have your own tie-dye art!
21. How long should you soak the fabric in the dye?
A. For 5 to 10 minutes. B. For 30 minutes. C. For 2 to 4 hours. D. For 30 hours.
22. What should you use to wash the dyed fabric?
A. Deep-colored water. B. Sweet water. C. Running water. D. Hot water.

根据表格“Dry”部分的“Hang it up outside.”以及“Don’t fold it or use hot air.” 选项A展示了将布料悬挂起来的动作;选项B和D为折叠状态,选项C为使用吹风机,均不符合“Don’t fold it or use hot air.”
B
TV Brings Tradition Back
C. Differences in Two Theatres D. Different Stages, Same Heart
B 25. C 26. B 27. D
根据第一段“The popular drama about the story of Yi Qin’e has drawn lots of young people’s attention to Qinqiang and even Chinese opera. Many TV stations also offer special features to introduce Chinese opera.”
第一段最后一句“Many TV stations also offer special features to introduce Chinese opera.” C“I watched the World Cup features online”中的“features”指世界杯专题节目,与之同义。
根据最后一段“Though Chinese opera and Western theatre differ in form, they both share the same goal—to touch the audience with powerful stories.”
全文对比中西方戏剧的不同形式,但核心是它们都以故事打动人心,且最后点明“Everyone can enjoy themselves in laughter and tears in those stories.”,因此“Different Stages, Same Heart”既点明形式差异,又突出共同目标。

A 33. C 34. B 35. D
根据第②段中的“The name “El Niño” means “the little boy” in Spanish (西班牙语), referring to the Christ Child (圣婴). Long ago, fishermen found that this warm ocean current (洋流) usually appeared around Christmas.”
根据第③段中的“However, during El Niño, these winds weaken. The warm water flows back east, and cold water does not rise as usual.”
根据第⑥段中的“Of course, we cannot stop El Niño—but that doesn’t mean we are helpless. People in the north should store water, avoid outdoor fires, and get ready for extreme heat.”
根据第⑤段中的“Northern areas will face hot, dry periods and wildfire risks.”和第⑥段中的“People in the north should store water, avoid outdoor fires, and get ready for extreme heat.”

________64________.
watching them carefully

Seeing their sweet smiles made me truly happy. This meaningful experience has changed me a lot. I have learned to care for others more deeply. It has made me more responsible and kind than before.
