One big change is the smart classroom. Many schools now have smart whiteboards and computers in classrooms. Teachers can show videos, pictures and cartoons to help explain difficult ideas. Technology has also made it easier to manage (管理) schools. For example, many schools use smart cards to enter the school and borrow library books. Parents can get messages about their child’s school life. This helps parents know how their children are doing.
Still, new technology has problems. Some kids waste lots of time on online games instead of studying. Using screens too long hurts their eyes. Schools and parents should teach students to use technology in good ways.

Binhai tiger shoes are a traditional folk handwork from Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. With a history of over 800 years, it is one of the most special intangible cultural heritages (非物质文化遗产) in northern Jiangsu.
Long ago, local families made these tiger-shaped shoes for babies under one year old. In Chinese culture, the tiger is seen as the king of animals. People believed that wearing tiger shoes could protect babies from bad luck and bring them health and happiness. These shoes look like a tiger’s head, with bright colors and lovely patterns.
Traditional Binhai tiger shoes are all made by hand. There are more than 20 steps to make a single pair of shoes. The main materials are cotton cloth, silk and cotton. The most important step is to make the tiger’s head. Workers use bright silk threads to embroider (刺绣) the tiger’s eyes, nose, mouth and ears. The eyes are usually made of black beads or silk, making the tiger look lively and cute. The shoes also have many small decorations (装饰品), such as little bells and colourful tassels.
In the past, almost every mum or grandma in Binhai could make the shoes. But as time went by, fewer and fewer young people learned the skill. Today, local heritage (遗产) keepers are working to bring new life to it. They are adding new styles, like cartoon tigers and red-crowned cranes, and even selling the shoes online to let more people know about this wonderful hometown handwork.
Now, Binhai tiger shoes are not just for babies. They have become popular gifts and a symbol of Yancheng’s local culture.

In many countries around the world, May 1st is a holiday called Labor Day or Workers’ Day. It is a special day to respect (尊重) working people and the work they do. But do you know how it started?
In the late 1880s, factory workers in most parts of the world had to work 14 to 16 hours a day, but they got very little money. Soon, workers in the US and Canada joined together and set up unions (工会). Union leaders asked factory bosses for shorter working hours and better pay. However, most bosses refused.
On May 1st, 1886, thousands of workers in the US and Canada stopped working and went into the streets. They walked through cities and towns to push bosses to accept an eight-hour workday. In Chicago, several people lost their lives in fights with the police. In the following years, workers in different countries began to stop work on May 1st to show respect for all working people. They dreamed of a world where every worker could have a better life. By the early 20th century, May 1st became a national holiday in many countries.
However, in the US and Canada, May 1st is not a holiday, it is mostly about having fun. North Americans celebrate Labor Day on the first Monday in September. People enjoy a long weekend and often have picnics with friends or family. In many parts of the US, Labor Day is also the last day of summer vacation. Many students find that the end of this holiday means the start of a new school term.

Technology has changed how we live and study. In Nanjing, it has also made school life more convenient and interesting.
One big change is the smart classroom. Many schools now have smart whiteboards and computers in classrooms. Teachers can show videos, pictures and cartoons to help explain difficult ideas. Students can touch the whiteboard to answer questions or do activities. This makes learning more fun and active.
Another change is online learning. When students are on holiday or sick, they can take classes at home. Many Nanjing schools have their own learning websites. Teachers put lesson videos, homework and study materials there. Students can learn at their own speed and review lessons many times.
All in all, technology improves students’ school life in Nanjing and brings more good changes to school learning.

13. Why did ancient people make tiger shoes for babies?
A. To sell them for money. B. To use them as nice gifts.
C. To keep babies safe and lucky. D. To make different new styles.
14. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. The history of tiger shoes. B. Steps to make the tiger shoes.
C. Different uses of tiger shoes. D. Changes of the old handwork.
15. What do heritage keepers do to develop tiger shoes?
A. Create new looks and sell online.
